In 2024, I released two patterns! The Wavelength Wrap and the Square Biz Shawl were my entries to designing with slip stitches. Thank you to Fiber Optic Yarns and Into The Whirled for their support in getting my work out there to be seen, and thank you to Karen Frisa for her tech editing. And thank you all for your encouragement and support.
Stay tuned! There is more in store for 2025.

I still have a smidgen of the first skein of Hornet left, but I have started the second skein of Hijinks. After finishing this repeat, I probably have 2 or 3 repeats to do before I bind off.

Coming Wednesday, October 16th! Square Biz shawl is a shawl that uses just knit stitches and slip stitches to form the stitch pattern, with increases along the one side to give it that triangular shape.
The yarn is Into The Whirled Pakokku Sock yarn in Hijinks (the dark color) and Hornet (the light color). Their colorways are fantastic, so check out their booth at Rhinebeck, where you can see the shawl in person.
Square Biz takes two skeins of each colorway for the large size (shown here), and just one of each colorway for the small size.
See you Wednesday for the pattern release (and a discount).

Just knit stitches and slip stitches for the main pattern. That's all! And once the pattern is established, it's just a matter of looking at the previous row to determine if it's time to open or close a square.
While I won't be able to make Rhinebeck, Square Biz shawl will be there!. Stop by Into The Whirled's booth to check it out and all of their fantastic colorways. Links in my bio for the Square Biz shawl pattern, and coupon code RHINEBECK for 20% off until Tuesday.

I especially like how these colors (Hornet and Hijinks) look in the sunlight. And this photo should give you a bit more of an idea of what I am going for with the Square Biz shawl.

I am at the point where I no longer have to reference my charts. It's just a matter of looking at what colors are coming on the left needle and whether I am opening or closing a square.

I am making progress on Square Biz and making design decisions along the way. As you may have guessed, mosaic tiles serve as one of my inspirations.
I am using a stitch marker, but it isn't necessary for the design. When I was (much) younger, I never used to use them. Nowadays, I find any kind of little reminder helpful. This marker is from Blue Bird Makery . I got a set of them at this year's Yarncentrick.

And Square Biz shawl is now into the world (or Into The Whirled ).
With knit stitches and slip stitches, this stitch pattern is formed. The large size, shown here, uses two skeins of Pakokku Sock in Hijinks (the dark color) and two skeins of Pakokku Sock in Hornet (the light color). The pattern also includes instructions for a smaller version that only requires one skein of each colorway (two skeins total).
Use coupon code RHINEBECK for 20% off this pattern. The coupon code is valid through October 22, 2024, at both Ravelry and Payhip.

I am glad to see that my calculations were right as far as yardage goes. I am about to start the 13th big square and am still on the first skeins.
Also, I am kind of loving the back of the smallest squares. It looks like a tuck stitch even though it is just the side of the fabric where the yarn is carried for the slipped stitches.

I am kind of amazed at how much of the first skeins I still have left, given how far along in the shawl I am and how much swatching I did before I started.

See! Math does come in handy. I just did some calculations to determine whether this was going to be a two or four skein shawl. Four skein shawl won out. I might still do a two skein version for those that like that smaller size and to also give ideas for customizing.

It is amazing how an idea that I chart out doesn't always translate to fabric. I start, rip out, and start again. I am thinking the third time is the charm here. I am tentatively calling this Square Biz. (Yes, it's going to be a triangular shawl. It will make sense in a few.)
