Game of the Day 45/365: Final Fantasy VIII (PS1) Given that it's Love Day, couldn't think of a better game than one with love as its central theme! While it often gets overshadowed by its more famous predecessor, this tale of sorceresses, SeeDs and romance is every bit as good. Squall is a character I relate to a lot and the relationship between himself and Rinoa is heartwarming stuff. Squall/Rinoa vs Link/Zelda

A few people have questioned my love for Squall and Rinoa vs Link and Zelda. Id like to point out that they're on my top 3 but S/R ultimately top LZ. Which may seem confusing considering my wedding was Zelda. Link and Zelda I hold dear because they're the first couple I experienced when getting into gaming. When my brother shipped off to Iraq, I sought comfort by playing his video games. That summer is when I started and beat OoT. When I finally dove into the realm of Final fantasy, I had many repeated hours of FF7, and a couple hours of 8 I took away. Squall peaked my interest more than Cloud and the gang in 7, but I hadn't quite made it to Rinoa yet when I decided to cosplay her. I learned of her existence through music videos on YouTube and endless Wiki pages of the game. In fact I had no real appreciation for their relationship until a couple years ago. Link and Zelda are seen as iconic because "link saves her". But that wasn't the original case. The first call to Link was "Save Hyrule". It's not until he confronts Ganon/whoever the antagonist is, that it becomes a "save the princess" story. His call was for his country first, not the princess. He had no previous history with her before her rescue. Link and Zelda have also never really been canonical except for Skyward but even then that's kind of touch and go. Their relationship is mostly fan built on desires. But they are gorgeous together. The hero and the princess, that's how it should always end up. But it never shows and sort of Love interest between them. I'm sure Link has some feelings for her, and I'm sure Zelda for him, but Imin the end they go their separate ways. When Squall first encounters Rinoa he's outside a party he'd rather not be at, avoiding classmates he'd rather not socialize with, and up walks this babe in a fitted white dress, forces squall out of his comfort zone to dance with her, and walks away when the songs done, flooring squall and leaving him wondering what the FUCK just happened to the point he has to walk outside to process these events. She soon starts becoming a reoccurring (to squall) annoying child that he doesn't want to deal with and told her many times. (Rocky start yes haha) But with progression of the game, and squall beginning to come out of his shell, he starts seeing her in this new light, and he starts realizing that he can't risk losing what he has, and that includes Rinoa. Events unfold and the entire country is against her, wants her locked away for ever if not dead and squall goes BALISTIC. Refuses military and government orders and runs away with her. He doesn't save her because it's his duty. Or Because it's expected. He vowed to himself to protect her. He did it because he fell head over heels for this girl who blew into his life like a fucking hurricane and turned everything upside down. "Even when the whole world is against you, I will be your knight." And that's gorgeous. To watch one person make a large impact is this depressed, lonely, anxiety filled boy and flip his mentality around is mind boggling.

I guess since I changed my profile picture, this isn’t much of a teaser, haha! I’m also bummed that my black arm ribbon flew away and we couldn’t find it. :( But I’m so happy to have brought back my first real cosplay (from 2008 omg) and finally do a shoot with her!
