Here we go again...

Courtesy of Danny Antonucci Admirer (eatmyspum) on Twitter. He's basically like Spumdonor, but since Antonucci isn't a predator like Kricfalusi (as far as I know), he hasn't been discredited for his opinions on modern western animation.

But seriously, what happened to the sardonic and unsmiling girls from yesteryear? Mandy, Gaz Membrane, Lucy Van Pelt, Helga Pataki (to an extent) and whatnot? This "happy-go-lucky female protagonist" is already getting tiring, but I guess not for you tumblr people.

I wasn't fully aware of the breadth of his work outside of the cat stuff so thank you. Its kind of a funny coincidence you bring this up because I only really became consciously aware of him at all a couple of weeks ago when I found the cat sticker book buried behind a bunch of stuff at the store I work at, upon which time I was able to put a face and name to the cat that I grew up seeing all the time. His specific "cat with shoes" drawing was the print on my baby blanket believe it or not - if you look up "Kliban cat with shoes fabric" you get the idea

So quite literally this ^ is one of the first drawings I was ever familiar with at all, buried into my subconscious, I slept under it every night til it became threadbare. Still a huge fan of his cats, less of a fan of the rest of his work TBH that feels a little bit "R Crumb For Dummies / Gary Larson for Pervs" but I do like the way he draws faces. some of the stuff in that thread is genuinely funny AF too
