Summary: Taehyung has a list of things to do to become a better person, and that's how he ends up volunteering at a queer youth centre. There’s only one problem – Yoongi works there. The same Yoongi who rejected him years ago and hasn’t given him the time of day since.

Why it resonates: Written in Taehyung's pov, the text captures the dizzying effort to reconcile one’s murky subjective experience with contrary evidence in other parties’ actions and words. This Taehyung is used to negotiating his social reality, deferring to others when they aren't interested in his perspective and lying when reframing isn't enough to keep it pleasant. Some of these discrepancies are deliberate constructions (influencer image, gaslighting “friend”, impossible mother), others are a misunderstanding or the result of broken self esteem. Taehyung starts in crisis, isolated by these tactics and unable to understand his own hurt. Through the fic, Taehyung learns how to trust himself and others by finding a safer way to live and accepting help from those who care.

Personally: A lot of Tae’s struggles feel familiar. The mindfuck of people feeling entitled to your body, the impulse to smooth over failings that don't seem justifiable, and the emotional wall he has built to keep even good friends safe from his “too much” mess. It's soothing to watch Taehyung break this all down, bit by bit, and heal. Especially sweet is Yoongi’s support, first grudgingly and then gently offering the tools and space for Taehyung to find his feet. Also every time a weird Taehyung is loved for his whole self, my heart grows three sizes.

I love Namjin fic - the old married couple energy that folks use to have them as characters is quite good, and obviously spudcity is an incredible writer so you get both of those things. The interactions between Jin and the children he fosters (other members as children) is quite good, as well as his relationship with Namjoon. There are scenes in this fic that made me roll over laughing, but it also can pack an emotional punch. Perfect for that found family fix.

For a friend of mine, this is a comfort fic that she refers to as WWHWWM (or World Wide Handsome Werewolf Mom) and rereads it regularly - it’s a solid comfort fic about found family.

Fic Library: Member x Member

I love mem x mem fics because the characterisations have more depth and aren't the neutral shell that reader-inserts have to be. Some of the saddest, most beautiful stories I've read have been mem x mem, and here's the best of them.

Verified Amateurs by beebalm on AO3 is a story of pining, longing and love set in an AU where Namjoon and Yoongi are roommates who decided to make money through camming.

Out of the dead land by sharpa on AO3 is a stunning, beautifully sad zombie apocalypse story with Seokjin, Yoongi and Jungkook.

A breach of protocol by Anna(pineconepickers) on AO3 features actor Seokjin and Namjoon as the 'hottest bodyguard in all of Korea'. Make of that what you will. I adore this.

Every atom in between by 55cancrie on AO3 is a sci-fi space AU featuring scrappy alien hunter Yoongi and privileged Seokjin and is such a good read. Yoongi's written so well here, and I love the whole vibe of the story.

Precisely when someone shows you to the ocean by sinkingmyships on AO3 features marine biologist Yoongi and mermaid Seokjin and is an absolute treat to read.

Starhunter: I'll search the stars for you by starchase on AO3 is a very lovely story with starhunter Jungkook and human Hoseok.

As the shadows grow by spudcity on AO3 is a stunning fantasy story featuring Yoongi and Jungkook, and various other members of Bangtan. The world building is amazing, the writing is top and it's one of the first stories I bookmarked on AO3.

Walkie Talkie Men by @minisugakoobies features Jungkook and Seokjin in a filthy, funny treat of a read.

Pretty Things by @hesperantha has a deliciously needy Jungkook and a scorching hot Seokjin.

She, by proxy by @ugh-yoongi features Yoongi, Taehyung and reader in a gorgeously written story written with a beautifully balanced subtlety and excellent smut. Read this, you won't regret it.

Everything we do not speak (but scream) by @vyduan is a stunning story with characters that you root for and a perfect, perfect ending.

The Departure (Chapter 1) - recordare by @sugalaritae features Jungkook and Yoongi and is very beautiful indeed.

Pairing: Jimin and Namjoon Summary: Namjoon and Jimin are stray demons who have long accepted to ignore their unholy purpose of collecting souls and live life as humans in all its banality. Some few hundred years into it, feelings arise. My reactions: The most lovely character studies, wonderful narrative of two idiots obviously into one another, and probably one of my favorite Namjoons to have ever been written.

Strawberry Dream by ladyddaeng

Pairing: Jimin and Taehyung Summary: Unpresented Taehyung gets his first heat and is assigned a special heat companion. My reactions: WEE WOOO WEE WOOO CALL THE AMBULANCE THIS JIMIN IS LETHAL AND SWEET AND KIND AND CARING AND THEIR DYNAMIC IS WONDERFUL

What Lies Below by Sharleena

Pairing: Jimin and Yoongi Summary: There is a curse that lives in the woods, and a spirit that keeps it at bay. And one sacrifice, born under the right moon. My Reactions: I stayed up until 3:30 am reading this motherfucker. It is beautiful though melancholy at parts, and though it is "horror" in parts, it is a .. gentle, hypnotizing horror, in a way. One of my favorite fics of the year.

The One by nicedress

Pairing: Yoongi and Namjoon Summary: Every stamen lured into Yoongi’s bed leaves him with a new blossom on his skin and a new grave on his property. When he encounters Namjoon, a stamen who refuses to touch any pistil unless it’s his soulmate, all Yoongi sees is someone naive and easy to control. Someone to help around the farm without complaint. Someone to dig holes without realizing they’re graves. Someone Yoongi’s not quite willing to kill—not yet. My Reactions: I read this through and then re-read it because it was so good. It was SO fascinating. There are notes about how the genre of Pistilverse works, but the author does a good job at using the tropes without making it confusing. Also please read the warnings. This made my brain spin for days and I want to do a Pistilverse AU sooo bad after reading it.

Murmuration by fringecity

Pairing: Taegimin Summary: Park Jimin is a rookie detective at the flashiest department in Seoul Metropolitan. When he's tasked to work with Min Yoongi - an apathetic, disgraced cop handling the ineffective cold case division - he doesn't expect the murder case they're working on to turn intensely personal. My Reactions: THIS BROKE ME AND THEN BROKE ME AGAIN AND THEN SCRAMBLED MY BRAIN AND EVERYTHING I BELIEVE IN IS WRONG AND FAILED SO MANY ATTEMPTS AT FIGURING OUT WHERE THIS WAS GOING AND MY BRAINS ARE SCRAMBLED EGGS WITH HOT SAUCE. One of my top fave fics on the year.

Turn Up Your Light by spudcity

Pairing: Jimin and Yoongi Summary: Yoongi needs to secure a marriage to save his people. My Reaction: I've never wanted to smash two character's heads together more and make them kiss than I did in this. The world building is not only fascinating, but these characters are some of my favorites I've ever read. Period.

Pairing: Jimin and Jungkook Summary: In a facility creating genetically modified humans for an elite military unit, alpha Jungkook is used to being overlooked. He’s classified as a ‘C-grade’ for his passivity and lack of aggression. When one of the facility’s valuable omegas goes feral, it’s exactly this nature that makes him perfect to try and tame him. But, even the calmest souls catch fire when they have something to fight for. My Reactions: *ripping my hair our* *taking anxiety medication* *crying sobbing screaming* *blood pressure spiking* i love this fic with every ounce of my being. It updates every Sunday and 4/6 chapters are posted currently.

I really love this fic - i don’t think I read a lot of Taegi in general, but this fic with blood exorcist Min Yoongi and “fail witch” shop owner Kim Taehyung is an excellent mix of character and worldbuilding, my two biggest weaknesses. In a magic AU! Perfection. Any worldbuilding you’re particularly proud of? run is really the only fic i have a whole world for that isn't necessarily our world. it's crystal clear in my head and i know i have to flesh it out. it's going to be so much fun to continue writing it more in depth! also i just started a multiverse fic that is sooooo much fun and goofy and serious and Fun! the world that i was building for lost myth of true love was one i was proud of but it also overwhelmed me because there were so many little details.

29. What songs would be (or are) on a playlist for way back home? Explain your choices if you want! i think i played the westworld theme song on repeat for that because well... western... and because it's such a good theme song. also the westworld version of "paint it, black" was played several times. it was also inspired by "that that" but that was less on the sound of it and more the teaser to the mv. but basically it was just the westworld theme
