The almond blossoms are starting to bloom in Agrigento province. This one I photographed two days ago in the Sicani Mountains north of Agrigento. Soon the hillsides of southern Sicily will be painted white! It's a beautiful season to be here. #experiencesicily #sicily #sicilia #sicilytravel #italy #italia #hikinginsicily #hiking #sicani #valdikam #almondblossom #mandorle #mandorli #agrigento #springinsicily (at Sant'Angelo Muxaro) https://www.instagram.com/p/CpAPud5My9u/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

The Scala dei Turchi (Italian🇮🇹: "Stair of the Turks") is a rocky cliff on the coast of Realmonte, near Porto Empedocle, southern Sicily, Italy. It has become a tourist attraction, partly due to its mention in Andrea Camilleri's series of detective stories about Commissario Montalbano. The Scala is formed by marl🌫️, a sedimentary rock with a characteristic white color. It lies between two sandy beaches🏖️, and is accessed through a limestone rock formation in the shape of a staircase, hence the name. The latter part of the name derives from the frequent raids💥 carried out by Saracen or Barbary pirates☠️. In Bella Italy🇮🇹, you can explore something new each day! What should I not miss out here in the South? 👀🤔 -- #BellaItalia #Italy2021 #Sicily #Sicilia #ScalaDeiTurchi #scaladeiturchi❤️ #scaladeiturchi🌊 #scaladeiturchiwhitewall #Realmonte #StairOfTheTurks #SicilyTravel #SicilyTravel #SpringInSicily #ByTheOcean #Barbary #Saracen #Commissario #CommissarioMontalbano #AndreaCamilleri #PortoEmpedocle #TreppeDerTürken #Marl #RockFormations #Nature #BeautifulNature #BeautifulNaturePhotography #DroneShots #DroneGlobe #FromAbove (at Scala dei Turchi White Wall) https://www.instagram.com/p/CMU5ep-pRZX/?igshid=1xmixwqpgbeio

On the night of 4th March 1998, Captain Francesco Adragna and his crew set out on their regular nightly trip off the coast of western Sicily. Everything was business as usual and the catch was satisfactory. But then, while pulling up one of the nets, rising out of the sea, head first, was a remarkable 7-feet tall bronze statue of a dancing satyr! The only thing more incredible than this, was that a year earlier, the same Captain Adragna had fished out a bronze leg belonging, as it would later turn out, to the very same statue! The Dancing Satyr is a superb work of art. The head is flung back in bacchanalian glee, the perfect torso is pushed forward mid-leap, balanced by a rounded buttock and an air-born trailing leg. Experts believe that it dates back to some time between the 4th and 1st centuries BC. When not on tour (it has been a guest of honour at the National Museum in Tokyo, at the Louvre in Paris and it was part of the Royal Academy of Arts "Bronze" Exhibition in London), the statue resides at the Museo del Satiro Danzante in Mazara del Vallo. Ragusa Ibla captures one's imagination. And for good reason. This beautiful baroque, yet ancient city on a hilltop, possess a mystical sense hard to explain. Over the past 20 years it has evolved into one of Sicily's hot destinations, perhaps because it is one of the "sets" of Vigata, the fictional home of Inspector Montalbano. Its UNESCO status draws attention to it, certainly, yet so do outstanding restaurants like Locanda Don Serafino and Il Duomo, artisanal boutiques boasting Sicilian-inspired crafts, clothing, and accessories, and churches that reign over limestone hillsides and stunning piazzas. This spring, we'll be here twice: during April's Spring in Sicily tour and May's Enchanting Sicily tour. Join us at Experience Sicily!
