here he is!!! @soldmysoultofandomshelp @somedumpster Headcanon A (realistic): ok i don’t know who actually came up with cuban!spot but i’ve seen it floating around and i’ve adopted it as canon in my own head. my boy is fluent in spanish and is not afraid to use it to cuss u out when u piss him off. his accent is an absurd mix of cuban and brooklyn and there was a period of time just after he moved to the states that literally NO ONE could understand a word this boy was saying because he had such a weird mixed up accent. also if ur feeling spracey, he likes to call race “mi alma” and race just swoons every time. Headcanon B (while it may not be realistic it is hilarious): he’s called spot because he has So Many freckles. they’re everywhere. his nose, his cheeks, his arms, literally all over him. he’s a freckly boy and before he was Mean and Scary everyone just thought he was super adorable and he hated it (it’s good for sellin papes tho!) Headcanon C (heart-crushing and awful, but fun to inflict on friends): most other newsies have been to at least a couple years of school, but spot’s never been a day in his life. with immigrating and all that right at the age where most kids were starting school, spotty missed out on going in cuba or in new york. on top of that, he had to learn english around that same time. because of all this, he’s not too good at reading and he does his best to make sure no one finds out that he can’t always figure out what the headline says. he just waits for someone else to read it out, because it takes him ages to sound out every letter and figure out the words. he couldn’t write a sentence if his life depended on it and he’s really embarrassed of that but too scared to ask for help. Headcanon D (unrealistic, but I will disregard canon about it because I reject canon reality and substitute my own): modern!spot is a Very Bad driver. he’s not an asshole with a big truck or anything, he just has a car as tiny as he is and he swerves around people and honks his horn and flips ppl off for driving the speed limit when they clearly should be doing at least 10 over. four-way stop? never heard of it. signalling to take an exit? spot doesn’t know her. he runs every yellow light he’s ever encountered which makes race screech in the passenger seat every time and swear never to drive with him again.
