14 - Francesca - Hozier

Cellbit’s eyes trace over the lines of Roier’s face, softly illuminated by the low candlelight. He studies the curve of his brows, the slope of his nose, the softness of his lips. He watches the steady rise and fall of his chest as he breathes in and out, a steady rhythm.

Roier looks peaceful like this. Surprisingly serene for how he had sprawled out, half under the covers and somewhat tangled in the sheets.

Cellbit thinks about their conversation earlier today. He wasn’t sure what he had expected when he came clean, about the workers, the killing, all of it. It almost felt like he was telling Roier about trying to kill his grandfather all over again - knowing the reaction would be far from pleasant, but unable keep it from Roier. An ugly truth, but the truth nonetheless, and he’d be damned if he was anything but honest to his husband.

The only difference was he didn’t feel remorse for this. He knew he was angry. He knew he wasn’t going to stop. And so, Roier had to know.

So Cellbit had led Roier to that buried office, and bared his bloody secrets and wretched intentions. And Roier had listened to his confession - yet instead of condemning him, he held Cellbit’s hand and damned himself with him.

He wonders, not for the first time, probably not for the last, just how lucky he is to have Roier. To be able to love him like this, and know that he is loved in return. Without a doubt, without hesitation.

“Gatinho?”

Roiers voice, raspy with sleep, breaks him out of his thoughts. He looks back up to meet Roier’s eyes.

“Guapito,” he responds, finding his own voice raspy all the same, emotion wavering his voice. A hand reaches out from under the covers to grab at his own - he lets Roier tug him closer.

Roier traces along the lines of his palm, before intertwining his fingers with his. His thumb brushes along the back of Cellbit’s knuckles, and he squeezes reassuringly.

Cellbit wonders if Roier knows how many of his callouses were made by killing others. Knowing only the handle of a blade, the harshness of violence. He wonders how many of Roier’s callouses were made the same way.

“Go to sleep,” Roier whispers, closing his eyes again. He doesn’t let go of Cellbit’s hand.

Cellbit lays down next to his husband. For the first night in a long time, he doesn’t dream.

HENTAI by ROSALÍA : suuuuuuuch a beautiful love song, as rosalía repeats herself in it, so so so so so so good. heartbreaking in a way to listen to now knowing the relationship it's about has ended. for someone to write this song about the sex you had is kind of unreal, an arrestingly beautiful song about fucking

Did you know that there's a tunnel under ocean boulevard by Lana Del Rey : the only song off her new album that i ever found myself attached to...the only one i ever returned to and listen to on repeat. definitely in my top 10 lana songs, that question, that "when's it gonna be my turn?" justttttt lingers and hits something really special. a lana classic.

58. i see london i see france by BBNO$ : i love bbno$ and don't think he gets the appreciation he deserves, really fun lyricist and makes music meant to be sung along with by you and your friends, i wish more people knew his stuff. one of the many fantastic singles off his newest album bag or die and i recommend everyone go give it a listen. as he says himself, sun sign cancer, it's okay to cry🫶

80. Bartender by Lana Del Rey : I listen to a lot of lana as is, and this is maybe my favorite track off of NFR! Kind of sweet to see it on my wrapped, because I know for a fact that I only played it so much because I played it for my mom at some point early this year and she really loved it/told me to send it to her, and in turn it became a song that reminded me of my mom and I listened to when I thought about her :')

I bounced off of this track at first, but then a wrestling fan made an incredible fanvid of CM Punk being a huge bitch/torching his legacy or whatever set to this song and I thought it was so funny that I latched onto the song again as a good choresbop.

Another Sledgefluenced (hi @caranoirs) song, this one was at the top of my personal playlist at the peak of planting season. Lots of memories of digging into the ground to this song.

2. Distant Stations covered by Andrew Bird - this one is honestly on there by mistake, though it's a good song. I swear I put it on one day and then took my headphones out and left it on repeat for hours and hours, because there is no conceivable way I listened to it enough for it to make top 5. If you feel cheated by that answer, true number 2 is You're on Your Own, Kid by Taylor Swift, which is a favourite choresbop for me. I have to hand it to madame Swift that a concept song about how being a pick-me girl for a mediocre small town boy didn't work out and then the singer ends up in some kind of nebulous blood-soaked mess is a fun concept.

5. Pyxis by Home which I got off a REALLY good wrestling music video and then became broadly obsessed with the entire album for coding bops. No lyrics, just chill electronic. Listening to this song really relaxes me, which is good for when I'm feeling out of my depth on a thorny problem.

11. THATS WHAT I WANT by Lil Nas X, another poppy choresbop. Many of the songs on my repeat list just help vacuuming feel like an adventure.

31. Holy Roller by Thao, Thao & The Get Down Stay Down KAY REC ALERT!!!!!! I adored the personal playlist this ended up on which is a real delightful and honest mix of nostalgia picks, new loves, ship brainrot music, and "idk I'm coding to this shhhh" music.

41. The Fox, The Crow & The Cookie by mewithoutYou ough this one is just transcendent to me. Adaptation of a particular aesop's fable with a tone and instrumentation that just drives me wild. At one point I could name that chime-like instrument that carries the melody in background but it drives me wild

47. San Bernadino by The Mountain Goats I had a Heretic Pride moment earlier this year. This song is tender, if a little desperate. Something about the rose petal imagery gets me, like naive but true.

Cruel World by Phantogram which I nabbed from @eldesperadont's Jay White playlist and sits on my FinJay playlist as the narrative place where Jay comes back from excursion and is just a Total Asshole now. Great song too. 67. Tighten Up by The Black Keys which ended up on my Narita/Tsuji playlist because it reminded me of Tsuji :) 73. Make Me Wanna Die by The Pretty Reckless, both a Kuwana Jin song AND a coding bop for me. Do not ask me to psychoanalyze that one, it just feels right feels good. 83. I Ain't Worried by OneRepublic which surprises me! This is for sure an old chores bop, vivid and sweaty-handed memories of getting through my last move by pounding this one into my ears. I can't remember when this year I used this song to get through a Task but surely it did its job. 97. Stop a Bullet by Black Light Burns, also on the Finjay playlist, which I listened to quite a bit, being the main fic project of the year :)

Thank you for the ask! :3 I wanted to do something for Bad, because currently he is suffering the consequences of his actions now, but couldn’t quite write smth to fit the vibe of the song, yknow? So how about a bit of Quackity, and a mention of Tilin, in my Star Wars AU?

5 - Consequences - Lovejoy

Quackity’s pulse races in his ears as the cantina door slides open, revealing the Imperial officer he had bumped into an hour before.

He quickly looks back down to his drink, tugging his hood further in front of his face, and makes a point to study the way the condensation fogs up the crystalline glass. Maybe if he ignores him hard enough, through the pure please don’t-notice-me vibes he’s putting out, and the will of the goddamn force, he won’t see him. Like when you close your eyes during hide and seek, and no one else can see you, right?

A hand, calloused and heavy, falls on his shoulder. Shit.

“Come with me, son,” a voice says in his ear, that same thick drawl Quackity had pointedly ignored an hour earlier. “We don’t gotta make a scene.”

There’s a moment of silence, a single moment full of too many options and subsequent consequences, to possibly run through each choice in his head.

He doesn’t want to follow anymore than he had in the first place, when the officer had stopped him, read him out his full government name, and asked if they could chat a while. He doesn’t want to get taken like he knows others have been, behind the doors of that concrete ISB building, to never be seen again. He doesn’t want this Empire loving freak breathing heavy down his neck, holding him down with an oppressive hand.

Ah fuck it, he’s a dead man walking, anyway.

Quackity grabs the officers hand at the same time he stands up, elbowing back with his opposite arm right into the man’s nose. His vision starts to swim with the sudden motion, and he blinks furiously, but somehow still manages to slip out of the Imperial’s grip. He doesn’t stop moving - he can’t - stumbling from there straight to the door and out into the air of Coruscant.

Fuck, he’s not sober enough for this.

He picks a direction and runs, ignoring the shouts behind him. Neon lights blur, the noise of night life and smell of metal and booze only serving to make him nauseous. Adrenaline keeps him moving, past a startled patrol of troopers who barely miss grabbing him, into a maze of side roads and alleys, where he hopes to lose them.

He somehow manages to make it to the hovertrain station, jumping through the doors right as they start to slide closed. His shoulder collides against the opposite wall, hard, and he crumples to the ground.

He groans, hardly noticing the startled looks of the other passengers as he curls up and closes his eyes.

He knew he should have been more careful. Should have found someone better than him to cover his tracks when he had gone snooping. Should have kept a level head when he had found Tilin’s file in the ISB’s records, with a terrifying amount of information locked behind far more secure firewalls. Instead he had panicked, and gone out to drown his sorrows. Their blacked out photo swims behind his eyelids, red bow just peeking out above the box. Classified, classified, classified-

The hovertrain jolts to a stop, and Quackity’s stomach jumps into the back of his throat.

As soon as he felt less like throwing up all over the grimy floors of Coruscant public transportation, he’d figure it out.
