"Aren't you cute?"

Gem's voice had a purr to it, warm caramel dripping from her words. She smiled as she said it, head tilted to consider Pearl up and down. Her canine chewed into her bottom lip, thinking carefully as she considered the red name before her.

Pearl was fuming, red glint to her eyes as she narrowed them at Gem. All this season she's been nothing but cruel and distant. Now she stands before her, an innocent smile on her face that draws out her dimples.

Gem tangled a finger around her own hair, humming. "I've always loved this outfit, y'know. You look so bloodthirsty."

Pearl's lip curled, showing her fangs as her ears pressed back against her head. She growled, the sound deep in her chest, and it only made Gem giggle.

"You're being nice."

"I am," Gem agreed. She clasped her hands behind her back as she took a step forward, movement like a waltz for one. She looked up at Pearl, innocence in the yellow of her eye. "Is that okay?"

Pearl's ear twitched, a betrayal to her annoyance. "Not with how you've been treating me all season."

"Oh that?" Gem shrugged, reaching up to pluck a white hair off Pearl's shoulder. White. Like Tilly's. "Well, we were green back then. Things were different. Now--"

"Now, I could kill you in an instant."

"But you won't," Gem sung. "Because I know you, Pearl. Sweet like honey, pretty as can be. You're not gonna hurt me."

It's spite that caused Pearl to pull her sword, diamond glinting in the midday sun. At once it was at Gem's throat, blade all but splitting skin. And Pearl grinned, furious and wild and undeniably red. "Is that so?"

Perhaps it was naivety, perhaps it was pride, but Gem only smiled. Her eyes flickered down to the blade then back to Pearl, expression nothing but affectionate. "Cute."

"Stop that."

"Oh, c'mon Pearly, we know how this goes." Gem stepped forward--stepped towards the blade--and Pearl withdrew ever so slightly. "You threaten me, you try to kill me, but inevitably you can't. This same dance over and over again. How predictable."

Pearl growled again. She wanted Gem dead, wanted her to suffer, to die slowly and alone knowing who she'd taunted.

But her blade sat still.

There were no words to be said, silence hanging thick between them. Gem only tsked, shaking her head.

"How pathetic."

Then she reached over the blade, tangling her fingers in Pearl's hair and pulling her down to her level.

And they kissed. They kissed with a blade between them, yellow and red combining in a burst of orange. They kissed, and Pearl lost her fury, lost her hate, lost her spite.

She was nothing but Gem's. A wolf and her master.

Gem pulled away, a breath between them, and smiled.

"My Pearl..."

And by the gods above, she was.

#23 - Femininomenon (Chapell Roan)

"You're nervous."

"Am not."

"Are too!"

Gem was close to Pearl, incredibly close, one hand on her thigh and the other brushing a strand of hair out of Pearl's red face. Pearl was blushing, cheeks hot to the touch when Gem gently ran her thumb over them, tracing her freckles.

They were alone, thankfully, inside Pearl's base, safe from prying eyes of other Hermits. Still, though, Pearl shuddered under every touch, eyes darting away from Gem and towards the walls and ceiling.

"I've just--" Pearl sighed, relaxing somewhat. "I've never done this before, y'know? What if I mess it up?"

Gem giggled, tilting her head as she considered the goddess before her. Oh, glorious Pearl. How incredible she was, and yet she didn't seem to notice.

"You won't," Gem said. "Promise. Just follow my lead."

"I don't want to chase you off."

"Oh, honey." She dropped her hand to Pearl's and brought it up to her lips, kissing her knuckles oh so carefully. "You could never do that."

"I can if I'm bad enough."

"It's like a dance, okay? I lead, you follow. And together we waltz."

Gem had expected some push back on that, some insinuation from Pearl that she couldn't dance. But, instead, Pearl sighed, seeming to consider Gem's words carefully.

"Alright."

And Gem smiled before leaning forward. One hand planted on Pearl's thigh, the other cupped her cheek and gently brought her closer.

Their lips brushed, shy and uncertain at first, before Gem pressed them together. She felt Pearl relax under her touch, sighing as they fell into the dance of the kiss, listening to music no one else could hear.

And it was glorious. All the people she's kissed before, and none were quite as incredible as Pearl.

Pearl fell forward, curling around Gem as her hands found her waist and tugged her closer. Gem let her, scooting in with help of her hand on the back of Pearl's neck.

After a few moments they both broke away, gasping for breath but an inch away from each other, scared to widen the distance anymore.

And Pearl laughed, a sound like bells ringing that made Gem's heart swelling.

"Good?" Gem asked.

And Pearl beamed. "Very good."

So, in silent agreement between one another, Gem leaned forward and they fell into this dance again.
