I actually think Leona would listen to music fairly frequently. He's a rich kid, I def headcanon he got one of them expensive ass sports cars and probably speeds on the highway blasting music, pissing off literally everyone else tryna drive home from work. His music taste would be surprisingly diverse, too. He'd probably like a mix of 2000s rnb which includes like Rihanna, Ne-Yo, AALIYAH SO OBVIOUSLY, Akon, and he'd be a (not obsessive) Beyonce stan. He'd listen to NYC and UK drill, and since I headcanon Sunset Savanna to be an East African inspired nation, he'd probably have some Kenyan/Tanzanian/Ugandan/Rwandan artists on his playlist too (since those countries are where Swahili is spoken widely.) I don't have any artists to name but if yall know some put me on.

RUGGIE BUCCHI

Ruggie, similar to Leona would have diverse music taste. Probably grew up surrounded by music, listening to whatever was on the radio while cooking sum for his grandmother, and now he uses one of Leona's ten credit cards to pay for his Spotify premium. He def listens to albums when he's chilling on his bed, studying/trying to unwind after a long day of running around. Though he grew up on similar traditional East African music, his favorite genres (IN MY OPINION) would be alternative hip hop and indie music. He LOVESSSSS Kanye West (tcd to yeezus), Tyler the Creator (and honestly all of OFWGKTA), Gorillaz, Childish Gambino, Vampire Weekend, and early alternative hip hop artists like the Beastie Boys, A Tribe Called Quest, Cypress Hill, etc. He was also probably put onto Britpop through Gorillaz, and likes Blur, Oasis, and (it's a secret tho) he fucks with Radiohead's "ok computer" album.

JACK HOWL

Jack is a canon gym rat. we already know he listens to music like HELL while he's bench pressing and doing pushups. I think he'd have similar music taste to Ruggie, excluding the "indie" part. (and he probably uses apple music, too.) Jack enjoys alternative hip-hop, and west coast hip-hop. He'd like Kanye and some of Tyler's popular songs, but he'd REALLY enjoy early 90s west coast rap like N.W.A, Dr. Dre. 2PAC ESPECIALLY, KENDRICK LAMAR ESPECIALLY. His favorite album is probably good kid maad city.

last film: kid gorgeous by john mulaney, and if that doesn’t count then it was the martian. have watched surprisingly few films in lockdown, as daytime tv is too distracting for my parents 🥴 (i’m watching seinfeld though! that’s good!!)

reading: the goldfinch by donna tartt. really struggling to read at the moment too, but it’s a good book and i love her style 🥰 (my tbr pile is taller than me, though, feeling a bit guilty)

- i saw two spuggies sharing a mayfly earlier which my parents found cute but i just yelled ‘greedy bitch’ at them, i’m still recovering from jurassic park 2

- my dad bought some old bananas cheap so he wants me to make banana bread tomorrow, which i haven’t made since day 1 of lockdown??

- my mum thought the 2010 icelandic volcano eruption was the worst natural disaster of the decade, despite the worst impact being on the kenyan flower industry (thanks, geography case study)

Take 5: Kesho

KESHO  (pronounced 'kay-sho') is 22-year-old Kenyan born/ Southampton based Connor Daniel, an artist whose music knows no boundaries. The name means 'Tomorrow' in Swahili, as KESHO is out to be the sound of the future. Bringing together dance, electronica and R&B, the sound is a vibrant fusion that takes up today’s post-genre challenge to create soul-infused, modern pop equally at home on radio or the dancefloor. His latest single ‘Fire Love’ is a commercial Pop track with a gritty edge. The song's concept is simply about wanting someone and the chase that makes it so exciting. Both of Fire Love's lyrics and instrumentation follow a crescendo that leads into the euphoria of Trap-infused synth brass and silky vocal chops in what electronic Pop music fans have come to know, love and move to - the ‘Drop’. He says the single was written rather quickly, within one day in fact, collaborating with Lady V, Paul Whalley and Amber Van Day. Fast workher that Kesho! We wanted to find out more – so time for a Take 5… When did you realise that you wanted to be a music artist? What or who has inspired you? I think my life was always going to lead into a creative path. My mum was in a band with my Aunt so I grew up surrounded by musicians. I was actually a dancer before a recording artist so I guess I've always had rhythm. My older brother downloaded FL Studio (music production software) for me when I was 13 and within an hour I fell in love with making music - I knew that's what I wanted to do. I grew up listening to Stevie Wonder, Earth Wind & Fire and Quincy Jones and they're all on my spotify playlists today. I'm massively inspired by Hip-Hop and the best lyricists in the game currently like Kendrick Lamar, he's so versatile with the manipulation of his voice it inspires me endlessly. My aunt and uncle were resident musicians there too. Mombasa: Warm sea water. I may live on the South Coast of England and we have plenty of water but man it's cold. I miss walking from the beach into the Indian Ocean and it feeling like a hot bath! Southampton: Mates. I've had the same group of friends since Year 7 Secondary School, I see some every week and some every 6 months but it always feels like nothing’s changed and that's really cool. Southampton: Nightlife. Over the last few years especially there's been an influx of really cool niche bars to hang, play pool or have a beer or 20. Mombasa: FOOD!! Some of the best Seafood you can ever eat. Beyoncé champions African music stars with Lion King soundtrack

Some of Africa's biggest music stars look set for success on a global scale having been handpicked by US singer Beyoncé to appear on her Lion King-inspired album. While Nigerian stars like Wizkid and Burna Boy have already broken through to the mainstream in the UK and US, their collaboration with the superstar in The Lion King: The Gift is bound to give their careers a bigger boost. The 14-track companion piece to the Disney film is filled with sounds akin to music currently rocking the continent. Beyoncé, who curated and produced the project, has called it a "love letter to Africa". "I wanted to make sure we found the best talent from Africa, and not just use some of the sound or my own interpretation of it," she told ABC News. "I wanted it to be authentic to what is beautiful about the music in Africa."

Dilution or a new direction?

From lyrics in English, Swahili, Pidgin English, Zulu, Xhosa and Yoruba, the project incorporates several genres from Afrobeats, pop, R&B, hip-hop, and the South African version of house music known as Gqom. "A lot of the drums, chants, all of these incredible new sounds mixed with some of the producers from America, we've kind of created our own genre", Beyoncé told ABC. African acts featured include Nigeria's Tekno, Yemi Alade, Mr Eazi and Tiwa Savage, as well as Cameroon's Salatiel, and South Africa's Busiswa and Moonchild Sanelly. Several African producers also have credits on the album. Alade said some artists claim to want to pay homage to their roots but are "all talk and no action". This is not true of Beyoncé, she told the BBC. "For someone of that calibre to dedicate time and effort to Africa, it goes to show our worth," she added.

Afrobeats is perhaps the dominant genre thriving outside the continent - and in particular the UK. Along with Afropop and Afrofusion, these sounds are taking over playlists and dance floors across the world. Beyoncé's new project is a savvy attempt to blend "pure Afrobeats, mainstream pop and R&B sounds" for a non-African audience, said Nigerian broadcaster Adesope Olajide, popularly known as Shopsydoo. He said this is more accessible and "soothing" to such listeners. "It eventually becomes a sound that is not Afrobeats in its purest form but the best of sounds that a Beyoncé audience will be able to digest," Shopsydoo told the BBC. "I know a lot of people are thinking: 'Maybe she'll steal the sound and create her own' but I don't believe that. involving these guys and girls, sharing her fan base with them." But not everybody is onboard. When the album was revealed, many East Africans shared their disappointment at being left out. Many of the film's characters, after all, have Swahili names and animators for the original 1994 film reportedly based the setting on Kenya's Great Rift Valley. 'The smartest people collaborate first'

Prior to featuring on Beyonce's latest album, some of these artists were already well on their way to global recognition. Wizkid's US breakthrough came in 2016, when he featured on Canadian rapper Drake's hit song One Dance, becoming the first Nigerian artist to top the Billboard Hot 100 chart and the first song to hit one billion plays on streaming service Spotify. This year also saw him and Burna Boy perform at Coachella in the US - one of the most famous festivals in the world.

So, we are flying to Lusaka over the Holidays and are staying for about five week. I can not emphasize enough how much I need this trip, this time of the year. And one thing I do when I am looking forward to something, I start preparing far ahead, maybe even too far ahead. This time it felt really necessary. We usually travel with Ethiopian or KLM/Kenyan Airways and usually they let us pack 48 kg each in two bags. BUT NOT THIS TIME. We are aloud the standard one bag of 23 kg each, and you can imagine when you are going home, like we are doing we want to bring some stuff. So this time I started packing and preparing like three weeks ago. I thought I should share some of my packing and preparing advice for a longer trip. We are flying from around 0 degrees Celsius to around 25-30 degrees Celsius and we are also flying to a place that right now have 12-15 hours of load shedding and hence no electricity or reliable wifi for most of the day.

So here we go:

Start to pack and prepare in time. Like you can see down I started when we had 44 days left tot take off =).

 Write a thorough list with EVERYTHING on it. Make sure its a list where you can check things off, either just use pen or paper or like I do, an app. The one I like the most for this is the Keep app from Google.

Pack at least one sweater, one pair of jeans and a pair of stable weather proof shoes. Its not only going to be hot, its raining, so the evenings can be cooler and the roads are muddy.

Mosquito repellent. You can buy in Zambia too but I love the one we have here in Sweden Mygga, so I bulk buy. Plus we will need it the first night, there is mosquitos at our house and we always sleep under mosquito nets (them we buy there though).

Download shit. For example playlists on Spotify, movies and series on Netflix and books on Storytel, or on whatever platforms you are using. Make sure this is also done on your kids devices.

Pack flash lights, head lights are really good, that run on batteries or re-chargeable lights that can be charged when electricity is there or from car charges. We bought some from IKEA that also looks cute.

Make sure you have good power banks and the right cables for all your gadgets. Now this is if you are planning to use your phone on the place where you are going to. Personally, I want to be able to blog and update on Instagram, plus I also use the phone a lot to connect to people, find places and the most important thing, ITS MY ONLY CAMERA. So if I want photos from the trip I need to be able to charge my phone.

Pack a small medicine stock for travelling. Not a lot is needed really but the most essential like Panadol, allergy tablets, wound care and some plasters is important to come with. In Lusaka there are good pharmacies and I know where to find them, if I was travelling elsewhere I would bring more (hey, I am a nurse). If you are on a medication bring them and the right paper work. And I also always bring hand sanitizer and off course sun screen!

Also, and this is very important to us since our kids are now bigger, 11 and 6 years old, involve the kids. They are carrying their own hand luggage so make sure they know what is in them and how heavy they are, and also where in the luggage they find things. Like their head phones, pads, games and so on.

When you pack, roll the clothes. If you have seen Marie Kondos techniques, thats the way! Saves so much space in the bag.

Bring the bills that needs to be payed if you are gone over a paying bills period. Most of them come on email nowadays but some, like our rent, does not. (Another reason to be able to charge the phone.)

Weigh the bags with a simple bag scale. Can easily be found cheaply at most convenient stores. We have this one.  This is an easy way to avoid annoyance at the bag drop at the airport

Make sure all the passports are valid. Ours where not, now we have new ones.
