You were walking out of your last class of the day, checking over yourself to make sure you had everything. Exhaustion laid over you heavily, and you were not willing to make the trip across campus from your dorm if you had forgotten anything.
Once your fears had been eased you checked your phone next, going over the reminders you had been given, and trying to see if you could work out a nap somewhere in between all of your tasks that had yet to be completed. Head so deep in your device, you failed to notice that the pathway in front of you wasn’t clear. Next thing you knew, you bumped into something very solid and all of your things dropped to the floor.
-
Riri was bragging to her friends about her little basketball win in a 1v1 scrimmage she had earlier that day. She was walking backwards and giving them vivid details that none of them asked for.
They were used to it, though. Every other day she was talking about a different sport she participated in and how fine all the other players were. It was volleyball one day and softball the next. Sometimes she’d even convince the boys to let her play, especially when it came to basketball, just so she could laugh when they all lost (every last one of them was a sore loser. It made the game more fun for her).
So into her storytelling she failed to realize that her friends were trying to warn her about something. She honestly thought they were just trying to get her to shut up. Next thing she knew, someone had ran into her back and there was a loud crash.
-
You dropped down to the floor immediately, not wanting to face any confrontation. There was no telling if who you had bumped into would be overly angry at you or not.
You were so frantic in your motions, you failed to realize that the person you hit crouched down to help you.
-
After a couple seconds of staring at you in shock, Riri finally came to her senses and began helping you pick up your stuff. She didn’t want to trigger an attitude or cause you to be upset with her. After all, she was the one who wasn’t paying attention to where she was going.
You reached out to grab the last book, only for a hand to lay on top of yours. You looked up instantly, your eyes meeting warm brown ones.
     ‘Wow,’ you thought to yourself.
You had to stare for a couple moments. Someone like her was helping someone like you. You were starstruck, caught in her beauty. She was wearing some baggy cargo pants with a compression shirt that showed off the definition of her muscles (not that you were paying attention to that).
While your eyes were trailing over her, you noticed there were other people gathered behind her, more than likely her friends. That knocked you out of your daze real quick, not wanting to make more of a fool of yourself.
-
‘Holy shit…’ Riri thought to herself.
You were stunning to say the least. Your lip liner and gloss combo went together perfectly and complimented your skin ton (not that she was staring at your lips that hard). Your glasses frame went perfectly with your chill yet nerdy aesthetic and Riri couldn’t help but be drawn to you.
She started apologizing for running into you, not wanting to seem like a total weirdo. She got nervous when you abruptly stood up, but followed your lead, wanting to stay face to face with you.
Handing over your stuff, she got ready to talk, only for you to mutter a quick thanks and begin to walk off. She wasn’t about to let you go like that so she getnly grabbed your arm before you walked off.
     “Can I get your number?”
-
She had handed you back your stuff before she popped the question. You were hoping to make a quick getaway but it seems that it wouldn’t be happening.
“I’m Riri, by the way,” the woman clarified.
You gave a quick glance behind her at her friends. It made you weary.
“You for real? This ain’t no joke, is it?”
She looked back and followed your line of sight and quickly shook her head. She looked more offended than anything but made a point to reassure you.
      “A hundred percent genuine--promise.”
Hesitantly, you ripped off a piece of paper and began writing the digits on it. You hoped on a shooting star (it was still daytime) that she’d text you back--she was exactly your type.
Reaching your hand out, she grabbed the paper from you. With a soft smile that made your knees weak, she walked off with her friends following behind.
You were on cloud nine on the way back to your dorm. A pretty girl asked for your number--not one of your friends’ but yours. The walk back was a blur as you thought only about your interaction with Riri (was her chain silver or gold?).
Unlocking your door, you walked in and settled in your bed after placing your books on your desk. Your smile slowly faded as you thought back. Dropping back onto your bed, you let out a groan.
You forgot to give her your name.
