Deep: A Synchronized Swimmer’s Story

The world churned around me. A quick, rhythmic pulse reverberated through the water. Arms and legs moved erratically in every direction, threatening to knock me into oblivion. My heart raced, my vision blurred, suddenly I felt like I was choking on the air I held desperately in my lungs. I fluttered my legs and kicked to the surface.

I was met by bright sun, loud pop music and the sharp sound of a whistle. The music cut out.

“Anita!” My coach was red faced as she practically screamed from the pool deck.
