please tell us about deep sea expedition
yes.... finally......... i can SHILL..........
basically, deep sea expedition or WHATEVER it would be called would be the salmon run dlc. wave THREE of splatoon THREE's dlc waves. you feel me?
so i've done just two posts before about this idea, but it would star agent 4 as our player character. reasons why?
agent four and agent 8 both having dlcs in splat3 would be a great way to pay homage to splatoon 2, since both were the protagonists of that game
grizzco and salmon run were introduced to the series with splatoon 2, might as well have the protgaonist of that game be the one to end the salmon run story line since return of the mammalians focuses more on mr. grizz himself instead of the salmonids
the basic idea for gameplay i have for this DLC would be a mix of a more open world approach (think security breach: RUIN) alongside a the PVE horde gameplay from salmon run. agent 4 would have to fight through hordes of salmonids and other deep sea creatures to descend deeper to reach a sort of salmonid capital. think maybe like... sparta? since the salmonids are inspired by that. maybe a giant ass collesuem (i know thats in rome i do not care).
point is, you start near the surface and have to descend to defeat the bosses (ha get it. cus side order has an elevator where you go up? im clever i think sometimes)
actually this sounds a bit like doom. oh well
i'd like to think there's some sort of phenomena of like... underwater air pockets. like underwater caves? where a bunch of civilizations are maybe? would be pretty neat to see all the stuff where salmonids go when they arent doing the salmon run part, among other species that could live in these areas considered the deep sea metro
(the naming coincidences are not lost on me but i have no idea what else to call this hypothetical salmon run DLC)
story? agent 4 has been stranded in hostile, salmonid territory with no backup, a faulty pair of grizzco (tm) dualies, and her wits. 4 meets a goldie salmonid, named chrysos, who takes 4 under their fin (ha) to help them find a way home. 4 and chrysos must explore deeper into the heart of the sea to find enough super golden eggs (name and idea pending) to have enough power to send 4 home.
thats the working synopsis anyway, excluding major spoilers and all
apart of the open world sections of the DLC would have the player controlling 4 and chrysos in a kind of open world diving situation. four is equipped with a prototype pressurized underwater scuba gear that makes it safe for ink-based people to go underwater! its grizzco brand and needs many upgrades (that could be acquired thru out the story).
im thinking for these sections you'd be timed to find an air pocket or new treasure of sorts? and if you run out of time idk 4 runs out of air or something and gets splatted. dw they have a life preserver which chrysos would reactivate to save four, basically restarting the level from the beginning.
chrysos would be a very straightforward character with a dry sense of humor and a natural curiosity for all things from the surface. they're helping 4 out of the goodness of their heart and to satiate that curiosity of what inklings are like, among other reasons.
they pluck one of their scales at the beginning of the story to help power up the faulty grizzco dualies, which would also be a tutorial on how to like.... level up? get upgrades? not sure
this was long! if you have any more questions feel free to ask. i love the salmonids and i love agent 4. mwah

(For the ask game)
I've heard you mention 'Remarkable Retirement' a few times. And I NEED more information so I can propperly obsess.
Thanks:)
SO GLAD YOU ASKED
first of all, obligatory plug because The Remarkable Retirement of Edna Fisher is out now in hardcover, paperback, and ebook, with an audiobook pending! you can find tbr and buy links (plus fun stuff like a "which character are you" quiz) at my linktree.
(I also have a shiny new website if you prefer a traditional website format or if that's more accessible to you)
okay anyway
the inspiration is exactly what you'd think it was
for anyone who doesn't know yet, the book was inspired by this post that I saw on tumblr years ago when I had my original account
...except it's not a series, she's 83, and she had one cat in the first draft who got cut because I simply cannot keep track of characters' pets, rip Mittens
here's a plot summary
which I c/p'ed from Goodreads just now, but I wrote this summary myself except for the lovely blurb from SJ Whitby at the bottom
You're never too old for adventure.
When you’re a geriatric armed with nothing but gumption and knitting needles, stopping a sorcerer from wiping out an entire dragon-fighting organization is a tall order. No one understands why 83-year-old Edna Fisher is the Chosen One, destined to save the Knights from a dragon-riding sorcerer bent on their destruction. After all, Edna has never handled a magical weapon, faced down a dragon, or cast a spell. And everyone knows the Council of Wizards always chooses a teenager—like the vengeful girl ready to snatch Edna’s destiny from under her nose.
Still, Edna leaps at the chance to leave the nursing home. With her son long dead in the Knights’ service, she’s determined to save dragon-fighters like him and to ensure other mothers don’t suffer the same loss she did. But as Edna learns about the abuse in the ranks and the sorcerer’s history as a Knight, she questions if it’s really the sorcerer that needs stopping—or the Knights she’s trying to save.
“Beyond the utterly charming premise of this wonderful book, you will find dazzling wit, a cast of delightful characters, and a plot that will sweep you away. At heart, this is a love story, but one that shows the depth and complexity of love in all its permutations. But my very favourite thing about this book is how it makes me believe in a kinder, better world.” - SJ Whitby, author of the Cute Mutants series
no-context spoilers aka random shit in the book that I like to mention now and then for funsies
handkerchief magic
a largely useless wizard
"I'm fine" [but she was not fine]
"snickerdoodles"
"we're not flying right into a SHITLOAD OF DRAGONS" (I have a temporary tattoo and stickers with this quote on it lmao it's a fave)
a dragon who thinks he's a lap dog
a dragon who hoards flowers
an extremely self-indulgent kiss-on-the-beach scene
a Soft Old Man™
maybe she's born with it, maybe it's PTSD
idk I'm bad at giving info without a specific question
I could literally talk about this book (or,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,anything I'm writing) all day, but I never know where to start or where to stop when I lack a specific question lmao. so if you have more questions or new questions or questions about anything listed here, please let me know what they are so I can answer them better!

NOTABLE CHARACTERS:
(!!Linked profiles contain spoilers!!)
Cole Nelson: A hunter in Johnstone's House. Brooding, imposing, strong, yet somehow, gentle.
Elizabeth 'Liz' Millen: Friend of Pete and Timmothey. She is feisty and principled, but has a soft spot for Pete. She will do anything and punch anyone for her friends.
Elmer: A hunter in Johnstone's House. Quiet, calculated, cunning, but also considerate.
Gavino DePetro: The deeply indebted owner of a new aquarium in Candimor City. He's in over his head, and it's too late to back out.
Greene: A hunter in Johnstone's House. He's too kind-hearted for this job, but there were no others available.
Guy 'Burton' Matthews: An asshole who knows too much and uses it to push Pete around with the help of his lackey friends. Pete justifiably hates him.
Kate Spencer: Pete's mum, has a dark past that she refuses to talk about or move past.
Pete Spencer: Main protagonist, friend of Timmothey and Liz. Quiet, sweet, kind, but very prideful and independent, as well as extremely mistrustful. His mistrust makes him lonely, and he longs to trust and become close with his friends.
Sorrel Johnstone: Main antagonist. He is a power-hungry, upstart House Master who has been given a new Hunter House to build up. He will do anything to get a leg up, and doesn't care who he steps on to do it.
Timmothey 'Timmy' Paige: Friend of Pete and Liz. Very socially attuned, funny, and rather crass. He's always up for a joke, always knows how to strike a nerve, and always happy to lend an ear to his friends. He works a maintainence job at DePetro's new aquarium to help support him and his Dad.
EXTRAS!

Its probably bc I've reread the manga Too Many Times I forget how slow Tohrus own development goes. She's in denial about a lot of things and her friends can see that. It takes a bit for herself to recognize it and a little longer till she confronts it (not trying to spoiler but I think we'll get to most of her Extreme Trauma in S3) Idk if you're watching the dub of sub but we're finally reaching that point on the sub. Will continue to look forward to your awesome posts tho!
Tohru being in denial abt her feelings & shutting her trauma down is so in tune with her character. But tohru isn’t the writer or the viewers, we can know/see things before she does. the writer has chosen to show us other characters’ struggle before they themselves see them. Simply it’s the writing that I’m criticizing not tohru. The writer strongly wants a climax so things must boil up until it reaches explosion. Having a climax in the plot is a good writing, but slowing/ complicating things & closing all doors until then can be tricky to the writer themselves. There is two different trauma’s awaiting for tohru “ whatever her mom did in her flashback /how she feels abt it “ & “ kyoko’s (I won’t forgive u) to kyo”. The later is the reason things MUST be so late in the story. I’m not saying it’s bad or I’m impatient, I just think it is disappointing to not have a balance in engaging the viewers/reader when it comes to the female protagonist. Some characters awesomely & deservingly get all the time, exploring every detail abt their trauma & decisions along with engaging the viewers in every step of the way (e,g: Yuki), Others are shut down (for now) completely for plot reasons. Akito is treated similar to tohru in this regard. Basically, it’s a reading/watching preference. Others might enjoy it. For me personally what I feel ...If i’m being so frank with you..a faint sense of disengagement with tohru. A sense of..ugh.. this amazing & extremely unique character could’ve been given better opportunity had the plot not restricted her in the name of the pending climax. But overall, tohru is still my favorite character in the furuba, unfortunately not the best presented character, but she’s awesome nevertheless.
Thank you for the ask & the nice words abt my humble review posts. I truly appreciate it. Granted my views might change as we progress, I love nothing more than being proven wrong when it comes to my criticism. Let’s see if the climax is wroth it. I just hope it won’t be over-dramatized like Shallow Waters, lol, or that it falls into any typical anime trope. I just wanted it to be treated realistically from a trauma perspective & without saying “ this aspect of the climax is just anime thing, ignore it, focus on the feelings”. Seeing how you said you read the story too many times, I’m sure it won’t disappoint! <3

I worked on the better part of the week on and off trying to design and name these fuckers, the one on the right especially. God damn hair and name-
Also, made them chibis because they’re easier to draw, and I wanted to get the characters down on paper without having to worry about anatomy-
Anyways, these are the two main characters (and then twinsies) of the story I was trying to come up with for a certain set of cast members for quite a while now, way before even Ever Wonder. It finally hit me after I came up with a Hazbin AU and it got me going like “Wait, this can be its own story.” idk what to call this story rn, maybe it’ll come to me at some point. Either way, this is gonna focus on the relationship (not romantic) between these two as well as all the people they will meet after they meet each other.
So here we are. Two of the main characters and the twin Familiars of one of them. Let’s begin.
So the one on the left is named Winnifred (last name pending), or Winnie/Freddie/Freda/Win/Fred for short, the two lil’ animals in the middle are her twin Wolpertinger Familiars Anton (the one flying) and Torny (the one just standing there at the bottom), and the one on the right is Honey Pot. In a lot of ways, Winnie and Honey contrast each other. Where she is naive, upbeat, a bit shy, and sweet, they’re loud, crass, street smart (and in a lot of other ways I hope to demonstrate in the story), over all sly, and just in general a bit of a gremlin. Yet in other ways, they have quite a bit in common, namely their self esteem issues and how they both try to hide it.
Freddie here is half Nephalem (which are half angels half humans) and half Cambion (half demons half anything else, but usually humans). Her dad (name pending) is a Nephalem that finds himself as the guardian of the country the story takes place in. A bit of a self absorbed dope, but he’s pretty friendly and protective. Her mother Regina is a Cambion that built up a reputation of basically not taking shit from anyone (debating on whether or not to give her political power). Because her mother was a Succubus Cambion, Winnie inherited shapeshifting abilities, so that’s why she goes around being only 6′6. Even at her true height, though, she’s considered... very runty of someone that’s half Nephalem. She’s a very sheltered young woman due to her parents being very protective (which I want to get to in her story). It doesn’t help that Torny and Anton are also pretty protective of her. She lives with her parents even still and only just recently got around to exploring the world around her, leading her to meeting the other main character.
Honey, meanwhile, is just a human. I haven’t really figured out the entirety of their family structure, and I won’t get too much into their backstory because I do want it to be a surprise. I will say, though, that they were never given a formal education, as in they didn’t go to a proper school. So by the time they left home, they ended up having to sell themself on the street to make do. After a while, they would earn the attention of their current boss and taken in for their... talents... They are a lot smarter than you would think, though. Even if not entirely academically. After a while of traveling with their boss and coworkers, Honey ends up in the city where they would meet Freda.
As for Torny and Anton, they met Fred when all three of them were young. As Familiars they were to serve magic users they felt a connection too. My canon for Familiars and how they work is a bit complicated to explain. That’s its own post. But for now, all you need to know is that more than one Familiar being born of the same parents at the same time are only born when there’s the same number of of sentient creatures born to the same parents are born on the same day, if it makes sense. And Winnie just so happened not only to be trying to learn how to use magic, but also was supposed to have a twin sister, but that twin was a stillborn. She met them when she wandered off on her own without her nanny knowing (and yes, her parents did freak out and fire that nanny) and ended up in the forests, where she met them. Issue was, they both felt a connection to her, and, unable to choose between the two, took them both home to see if there was a way to make them both her Familiars. Little to say, there was, I just haven’t worked that out yet. But anyways. They’re her Familiars now.
Both of them are also a bit of gremlins, although Torny moreso. She’s like the bad influence big sister to Anton. And while she’s a bit mischievous, she is also strangely mature. She’s also very protective and not as trusting as Freddie or Anton.
Anton, meanwhile, is a soff boi and gets attached about as easily is his and his sister’s master. Good boi, protecc.
Anyways, that’s about it.
I’m now torn between focusing on this story or Ever Wonder. This story takes place further in the future than the last planned story for Ever Wonder. On the one hand, oooo, I’m feeling this story! On the other hand, the worldbuilding for this story is major spoilers for a major event that happens way late in the Ever Wonder series.
FACK-
Edit: Ended up taking out some things I felt would be spoilery, as I decided I wanted the reader to learn as the story progressed.
Also the story is called Eye of The Hurricane.
