Guys I just remembered the "holiday concert" we did in high school symphonic band. What we did is play a song all together as a band, and then each section was assigned a song to play by themselves. So that means the trumpets got to play their own song, and the percussion, and the flutes, and so on and so forth

I have been playing clarinet for nine years. You know what song we got? Chanukah. You want to know which section was the only section to do a jewish song? The clarinets. Was this a sign? Yes. Was chanukah almost three weeks ago by the time the concert was held? Yes. The only reason why this was a holiday concert and not an xmas one was because of us.

Should I try playing it for y'all?

anybody remember the stephanie brown essay I was working on under a research grant fully last summer? yeah it’s not done yet it super needs to be done and I’ve been avoiding working on it for weeks. someone tell me to just do it already

#the problem is. actually there are several problems #1) I’ve been out of the Batman/dc comics phase for almost a year so I don’t care that much about the topic #2) I am fifteen pages in and have not touched it in months so I’ve completely lost my train of thought #3) I can’t just reread it because I hate first five pages or so and I know I need to change it but I was trying to finish before editing #so now my only solution is I need to open up a new doc and completely restructure the whole thing by splicing together the existing writing #so that I can figure out where the hell im going with this and make sure things fit together better #unfortunately that sounds fucking exhausting #but I told my mentor I would have an update for him by the end of the week and. well. it’s the end of the week #I have to present it in April. I have to write and submit an abstract in March #the school gave me $1500 for this stupid essay and if I don’t have anything to show for myself.#well. I don’t know they can’t take the money BACK but it’s not a good look #and also I would feel bad #I did the research!!! i interviewed comic writers even!!! I just haven’t finished WRITING IT DOWN #and I KNOOOOWW once I get started it’ll be fine once I’m going I’m going #but STARTING is hard because I feel like I have to finish it in one go which makes it so huge and daunting #I’m like. slamming my head into a wall. just write a couple sentences Jess something is better than nothing #just start it you don’t have to finish just START just MAKE the new DOC #I know!!!!! that is what my therapist would say!!!! Temptation Sensation with jaw harp accompaniment

i got the random urge to add some jaw harp to the sunny theme. only instrument i know how to play. some of the timing is off because i had a lot of issues making this and my joints can only handle so much rn

#i don't mean to imply it was played all in one take. certainly was not. the movement required for editing + just typing this is painful #might sound a little funny near the middle bc i used the original temptation sensation and spliced it together myself for higher quality #(the file saved terribly compressed and crunchy when i tried using audio from the show)#and this type of thing just breaks my brain to edit #iasip #iasip art #iasip memes

unsurprisingly i had to once again join a modding discord to find the relevant information i need instead of that information being listed somewhere that'd be easy to access. hell world moment

#soda offers you a can #yes there are tools and modloaders and so much more for 2011 cd. most of them are just not listed in the obvious places #mostly bc it's made with the retro engine that several other games also use #so those tools are listed on pages for other games since they're not cd exclusive #anyway. good news are that from a technical standpoint i should be able to create funny cd unfiction perhaps #but i will need to emulate the original game for it as well due to the intro and menus and what have you being so different in the remake #including the fucking sound test. i can't use d.a. garden even if i had it unlocked bc it's now Fancy and Cool #and probably doesn't have the sound test easter eggs in it anyway #so yeap lots of footage splicing will be required and possibly some of that suspension of disbelief as usual #now i just gotta figure out what exactly it is i wanna do here

I've got a question about episode 60, though, what's the music that's mixed into the morse and static? It sounds like a very old recording, and I love that sort of thing. Thank you for sharing your shows with us!

ahhhh this makes me so happy!! I LOVE that it's getting people into Morse Code, that thrills me.

(some spoilers below about episode 60 of @breakerwhiskey, including additional explanation from me that you may or may not want)

yes, the music mixed into episode 60 IS an old recording! it's a song played on a phonograph - I use a service called Splice to get a lot of the sounds I've put in a bunch of my shows, and there's a pack that's all sounds from vintage audio devices. there's a few of those sounds mixed into episode 60 - a phonograph song, the sounds of wax cylinders being played, and a recording of Thomas Edison explaining the phonograph - all of them distorted to be mostly unrecognizable.

the song file itself is just called 'phonograph song' - I think a bunch of audio engineers just recorded whatever they could off the vintage resources they had - but as far as I was able to glean from the lyrics (they're not that much clearer even undistorted) it's an 1860s confederate rallying song, which I thought would be just about the worst possible thing that you could hear played at random over a radio frequency. I wanted the sounds all together to be menacing, and Whiskey has talked a lot about the myth-making of America vs. the cruel reality, so it felt on theme.

that said, the phonograph sounds were chosen mainly for the literal quality of the sound - that tactile, fuzzy wax static - rather than any true story importance. there are story-relevant sounds mixed in there, but I'm not going to tell you what they are or what they mean!
