💛 💜 ❤️ || the youkai has been well ACCUSTOMED to strange behaviour in the city, to the extent that someone seemingly engaging in conversation with a vending machine is perhaps the most IDLE of oddities. her small form peeks discreetly from behind the stranger, as if making sure there isn't some sort of fairy lurking inside the object. what she sees may perhaps be slightly UNDERWHELMING, but satori brushes it off with a faint smile.

❝well, it certainly ISN'T a voice activated machine. you've got to pay up first -- and THEN pick what you want.❞ as though acting on instinct, the petit girl follows through the motions, pressing buttons and inserting her spiralzon wallet. ❝PERFECT for antisocial people like me.❞

So many sights and sounds overwhelm your senses but nothing ensnares you more than this modern marvel known as a Vendor’s Machination. You flip the coin in your hand, trying to figure out how to actually use this.

Today @illingsworth & I watched the first episode of an 80s cartoon called Spiral Zone & this lie happened in the first 2 minutes… why even draw barbed wire if it serves no purpose?

IT HAS ALWAYS BEEN A TOP priority to maintain peak health, and while the young man has no extraordinary physical abilities to his name, he makes no excuse about his shortcomings. hard work can and will pay off -- he swears by it. brows curl together with all the seriousness of someone in the heart of WAR, heart thrumming in a steady pattern. morning jogs have been a part of his routine for as long as he could remember, working hard even before starting the school day. when is he not busy?

nevertheless, he still knows his limits, crawling to a steady pace as he takes to the netwalk. breathing steadies, throat parched. even with this habit cultivated for years and years, he's not INFALLIBLE. eyes focus upon his own reflection within the glass of a vending machine, tiredness resting in the dark circles under that gaze. crouching down, he fishes for spiralzon wallet, ordering a bottle of water to cool off. the thing jolts, two bottles instead tumbling out. the young man blinks, holding the spare up to the nearest person. she looks like she's been EXERCISING too:

❝excuse me, i've got a SPARE. hydration is important too - please take it.❞

So here’s the proper beginning of Bandai Spiral Zone world... from the April 1985 issue of Mokei Jouhou magazine. This is the first chapter of a serialized novella detailing the adventures of group of futuristic soldiers fighting in the Zone. It builds on the foundation laid in the series of “Fireball” articles from 1984, gritty near-future milspec vehicles and personal armor. This first chapter sets up the format the series will follow; a nicely illustrated 3-4 page chapter, followed by a spotlight on a particular weapon or vehicle. Sadly there’s no translation of the text. It was also republished as a stand alone novel, with some additional illustrations. The Desert Monitor, pictured above, was prototyped for the 1/12 line, but was never actually produced(scans to come).

{ 👑 } A SIGH OF RELIEF IS ALLOWED through formerly cruel lips, the once conniving monarch now a SHELL of his former self. Their positions should rightfully have been reversed, or at the very least, on a more even footing, but in the end, a fool Gangrel shall be. He DESPISES the thought of losing his Dust, of being the coward he now is, but he'd be damned if he did not try to cling to self preservation. An eager nod follows, DESPERATE in his desire to keep on living. Keep being the sheep this military man must think of you.

THERE'S NOTHING SHORT OF RELIEF IN his cowardly heart that Gangrel knows how to handle technology. One thing l him that did not change at all since his transformation into a coward, evidently. An EAGER nod of those wispy, ginger curls, begging to be out of this dangerous situation as soon as possible. Fingers dig madly into his own pockets, heart ramming sharply with every second that passes without his phone in his hands. But twitching, PANICKED fingers do find their prize in the end, shaking as he holds it out, Spiralzon app on full display.

❝Y-YEAH, UH … Y-YEAH. I CAN'T EXPLAIN how it works but you … you push that little button here … ❞ Still shaking hands shows his phone, screen forward facing. A long nail taps lightly against bold letters: transfer funds. ❝So- so, how much Dust is it?❞ A faint glimmer of his usual self peeks through, the most subtle sign of impatience as there ever could be. Gods, he just wants to get this over with, so he could curl up on his bed and put this whole damn thing behind him!

Even though he’s not foolish enough to flaunt his fashion sense as obviously superior, he still wants to share that he has one. Gangrel teeters where he stands, quite wisely holding his glass at arm’s length away from both men, for wouldn’t it be his luck to spill even more on the other. ❝I only wear nice things, drink and eat nice things –❞ Now that’s an EXAGGERATION, laying it on a little TOO thick — ❝So … so … that’s good enough, right? No need f-for me to die, yessss?❞

                   All of this foolish blabbering  —– was this what Katsuie’s past self sounded like to others ? No wonder no one had ever considered him a serious threat back then. Who would have any respect for someone who went on and on about all the nice things they had ? Not only was that behavior vain beyond belief, it demonstrated how empty this man was inside. He could have all the treasures in the world, but those wouldn’t make up for how spineless he was. Did he even have any friends ? Or had everyone he knew already figured out what he was and distanced themselves from him ? The idea of insulting this man and cutting him off mid-speech tempted Katsuie. However, if he wanted his scheme to work, he needed to hold his tongue. He didn’t want to irritate or frighten this stranger to the point that he’d refuse to pay money.

                    ❛❛ So long as you can pay me as you claim to be able to. ❜❜ Katsuie pulled out his cell phone. It took him a minute, but he managed to unlock it and reach a screen showing his balance of Dust.

                    ❛❛ From what I understand, the currency of this city is called ‘Dust’. True to its name, it is as formless as dust, but it seems that this device can keep track of it. Therefore, I would assume that there should be a way to transfer Dust between two people. ❜❜ That last statement was mere supposition on Katsuie’s part. There was a chance that he was wrong. As chatty as this man was, though, he might just confirm Katsuie’s guess and explain how to transfer Dust.

B-Club Magazine, Feb. 1986, Spotlight article on Sentinel Bear Armor and Figure kit from SpiralZone. Really playing up the multimedia aspect of the kit. Breat shot of a painted-up, lightly weathered version of the armor. My favorite aspect of this are the two figures in the upper left. I think they might be characters from the serialized novel. The uniform design on the female figure looks remarkably like the “Eagle Eye” armor from the Spazon Club line. Also pictured is a cool custom Kamen Rider, built on a SZ figure base. The issue has a 3-page how-to, for those old school tokusatsu fans who might want to roll their own.
