Spiny Tailed Lizards

Incidentally, this blog takes its name from a reptile that is common throughout the Gulf Region - the Uromastyx, or Spiny Tailed Lizard. They’re pretty common but I’ve never managed to see one in the UAE, where I live. I did manage to snap this one in Kuwait however, although I was in a car and the lizard was moving fast so its pretty blurry. 

The way they walk is particularly amusing - sort of a fast waddle, bouncing from side to side. They are traditionally eaten in Kuwait and I am told you can still buy them in the local markets there. It is also a popular pastime for young boys to go out lizard hunting.
