“You sure this is the place?” Dean whispered, eyes scanning the room.
“You questioning my research?” you whispered back, shooting him a glare and he quickly shook his head, lips pursing as he looked up to the preacher who was speaking animatedly. Dean and churches never mixed. Hell, you and churches never really mixed either. But something was off with this place. “Look, the message boards say people are either going missing or coming out wrong. It’s the closest fit to what we found, this is the common connection. And I looked into it, and something is off, okay? It’s.. It’s too culty.”
“It’s religion, sweetheart.” Dean muttered, leaning a touch closer to your ear to keep his voice as low as possible. “They’re all cults.” You couldn’t help the smirk at that. Winchesters and religion never really did see eye to eye. Your smile faded as what the preacher was saying started to register, Dean’s voice starting to fade into the background. “Well, if there is anything off in this place, Sammy will find it.” Dean glanced back at the doorway as if he expected to see Sam come in, but your eyes were on the preacher.
“- delusional. Man laying with another man, woman with another woman, it is evil! They will be sent to the fiery pits of hell to burn for all eternity. They claim they were born this way, that it’s not a choice. But they forget, they were made in gods image and god is not a homosexual!”
A chorus of “Amen!” rang out loudly throughout, and it made you swallow as you looked around at all the nodding heads and faces of disgust that surrounded you. Your body stiffened next to Dean and you knew he felt it because he looked down at you with worry.
“They made the choice! They made the disgusting choice and they are destroying god’s good hard work!”
More nods, more amen’s, and you could almost feel tears pricking at your eyes. You couldn’t give two shits about these people, honestly, they meant nothing to you, they weren’t friends or family. They were strangers. But here you were, trying to save them, trying to save the nice little old coffee shop lady who kept trying  to set you up with her grandson, and she was front row center, voice as loud as the rest. They had no idea just how much they seemed to hate you when they didn’t even know you. And it hurt.
“Now they’re claiming new genders, multiple genders to try and make it okay? Saying they aren’t homosexuals because they are no longer a man? And they dare claim the rainbow as their symbol!? One of god's miracles!? We will not let the abominations take it!” More voices raised high in agreeance.
Suddenly Sam dropped into the pew next to Dean. “Something’s fucking weird… I’ve never seen anything like it before.”
“What do you mean?” Dean looked to his brother, and you tried to pay attention to Sam over the hate being spewed, but it was hard.
“Like I said, I’ve never seen anything like this before. It’s not a Rugaru, Dean.”
“But everything we saw-”
“Unless Rugaru started spinning webs, It ain't it. I don’t know what it is. I think we need Dad for this one.”
“Webs?”
Sam nodded. “There’s a back room filled with webs. Basement too. Like the place is infested with billions of giant spiders. Creepy as hell.”
“Everything about this place and that guy is creepy as hell.” Dean motioned with his chin to the front of the room. “He looks off. Looks like someone tried to burn him alive.”
“I can cure them!” the preacher's voice boomed through the room, making Sam and Dean’s conversation fade to the background. “Bring them to me, give your homosexual children to me and I will take them away to be cured! They will become whole new people so they can be granted entrance through the gates of heaven!”
“Can we go?” Dean glanced down at you and Sam leaned forward to see past Dean as you wiped at the tears on your cheek. “Please? Can we get out of here?”
“Of course, kid.” Dean rubbed at your back. “Hey-”
“I just want to go.” With that, you stood and hurried for the door leading out, Dean and Sam right behind you. You ignored the looks people were sending your way as you all but rushed out into the fresh air and hurried for your brother's car.
Tumblr media
“You think she’s going to be okay?” Sam’s voice was hushed, as if he didn’t want you to hear him, but given that they were both in the same room as you, it was hard not to.
“I don’t know.” Dean’s voice was just as low. “She say anything to you about it?”
“Not a word. You?”
“Nothing.” Dean sighed.
You didn’t need to turn towards them to know they were watching where you were curled up on the bed with worry. They’d been looking at you like that for the last two days. You had a feeling that they knew what was bothering you so much, why you had shut down, but saying the words made it all too real and you were scared. Scared that the two people who practically raised you would shun you. That they, like the rest of this quiet little town that boasted perfect homes with perfect families, harbored some deep hatred. As much as you wanted to believe they wouldn’t, that they would never, that fear was buried so deep that you couldn’t shake it.
You heard the unmistakable sound of a powerful engine as lights flashed across the window before turning off and the engine cut out. You curled up on yourself a little tighter knowing what was coming next. Fearing it. Another person to disappoint.
The door opened and in walked John, duffle in hand that he dropped as soon as he was in the door. He glanced over to you in the bed and was surprised when you didn’t jump up to hug him like usual. He wondered if you had decided you were too old, or maybe you were finally distancing yourself from him like the boys had long ago. “What’s going on?” the question directed to Dean, but his eyes were on you.
“We think we found the thing, but dad, we’ve never seen anything like it. Sammy found a name of what it could be, Arachne, something about poison, but nothing on how-”
“I’m talking about your sister.” John cut him off. “How long has she been like this?”
Dean sighed. “Since I called.”
John, instead of heading for the case of beer Dean had started into on the kitchen table, moved towards the bed. He crouched down, next to you and leaned to catch a look at your face. He could easily see the worry and fear. “What’s going on, princess?” he asked, reaching up to run a finger across your forehead and stroke down your cheek, something he and Dean both did whenever you were sick and needed comfort. “Talk to me.”
Your bottom lip quivered. “Daddy…” you whined, fighting not to cry.
“What’s wrong, sweetheart?”
“I-” You tried to swallow down the fear. Even though he wasn’t around much, you feared his rejection above everything. He was your father. Dean raised you more than he had, but you had always been a daddy’s girl, your need to impress him and make him proud had driven everything you had done your whole life, every decision you made. And now you were about to disappoint him, you were sure of it. You met his eyes and you couldn’t help it, you started to cry. “I’m gay, dad.”
John watched you for a moment before his eyes softened. “Is that what all this is about? You scared me, kid. I thought you were about to give me some bad news.”
“W-what?” You lifted yourself up so you were sitting, and looked down at him. You expected more, you expected disappointment, not softness. You expected big bad John Winchester that monsters and people both feared, not the soft and loving look that was staring back at you.
“I’m going to hate anyone you fall for, pumpkin.” His teasing smile started to spread on his face. “Because they’ll never be good enough for you. Man, woman or otherwise.”
Tears were flowing from your eyes even more as you threw yourself at him for a hug. “Thank you, Daddy.” you breathed  out, burying your nose into his shoulder and breathing in the smell that was so uniquely your father. He held you gently until you decided to pull away, and then you looked him in the eyes. “Dad?”
“Yeah, sweetheart?”
“Can, uhm..” You chewed on your lip, scared this would be asking for too much but there was no better time. “Can you use they/them?”
John gave a half smile and a nod. “Can I keep calling you Pumpkin and Honey?”
“Yeah.” you smiled. “I also don’t totally hate Sweetheart.”
“Then I will do my damnedest to remember. As long as you remember I am an old dog and it might take me a bit to get it every time.”
“The fact that you’re willing to try already means everything to me, dad.”
John smiled, wiping at the tears that had stained your cheek with his thumb. “Tell me something. What got you so scared about this all of a sudden?” You sniffled, looking down at your hands in your lap.
“The Preacher.” Dean piped in. You had almost forgotten him and Sam were in the room and had heard everything.
“No.” your voice was a whisper. “It was everyone else. Everyone agreeing with him as if I’m the monster here.”
“Pretty sure the preacher is what we’re after.” Sam scoffed.
“Don’t let a literal monster make you feel like shit.”  Dean spoke as he came over and put a hand on your head, ruffling your hair until you looked up at him. “Get even.”
“Dean’s right. Let’s gank the asshole.”
“We don’t even know how to kill it.” You looked from Dean to your father.
“But won’t it be fun to find out?” John gave you a big shit eating grin. When he saw how your eyes lit up at the idea of a little payback, he couldn’t help but chuckle. “There’s my pumpkin.” You threw your arms around his neck again, so grateful and thankful for that small effort of him using ‘my pumpkin’ instead of his usual ‘my girl’. “Pack up the bag, boys.” John spoke to them over your shoulder. “We’ve got a piece of shit preacher to introduce to his maker.”

So, I like Spider-Man
And I also realized that I haven’t actually MADE anything for Pride Month. I mean, I changed my icon and header, but that was for personal reasons, nothing much more.
So, I thought back to a headcanon that a lot of people seem to like, so I made an icon around that.
Here is the Spider-Trans icon
Tumblr media
But then I realized: If I poke the correct buttons, I can make the symbol be different colors.
Here is Bider-Man
Tumblr media
And finally, because I ran out of time and wakefulness, Gayder-Man
Tumblr media
I can make this spider show up as any flag you want. If there are any requests, please ask me for some. (Psst... You can ask for two different flags. Maybe three if I can make it work.)
Let me know if you want to see more, or if there is any other icon/logo you would like to see, and I shall do my best to make it reality!!!!

AAFCA Awards Celebrates Tenth Anniversary, Names Black Panther Best Picture
Congratulations to Gil Robertson and Shawn Edwards on their tenth anniversary of the African American Film Critics Association (AAFCA) Awards ceremony. I have attended almost every one from the beginning and have seen it evolve to its present joyous state at the Taglyan Complex in Hollywood. Robertson and Edwards started the organization to showcase African-American journalists and their writing about movies by or about African-American filmmakers at a time when there was felt to be a need for "Black Oscars." This year, there were plenty of movies to celebrate.
Actress, comedian and singer Tichina Arnold presided over the festivities as Mistress of Ceremonies, setting the tone for an evening full of comedy and celebration. Her shout-out from the stage to music icon Quincy Jones in the audience led the way for almost every award winner to pay homage to Maestro Q. And when the 80+ years impresario went to accept the inaugural AAFCA Stanley Kramer Award, he did not disappoint. He boogied to the music all the way up to the podium.
Ryan Coogler's "Black Panther," the highest-grossing film of 2018, was the night's big winner, honored with three accolades for Best Film, Best Director and Best Song ("All the Stars"). "BlacKkKlansman," the first picture to earn trailblazing filmmaker Spike Lee Oscar nominations for Best Picture and Best Director, received awards for Best Actor (John David Washington) and Best Screenplay (Charlie Wachtel & David Rabinowitz and Kevin Willmott & Spike Lee).
Best Director winner Ryan Coogler with Ava DuVernay; Best Breakthrough Performance recipient Amandla Stenberg with Lakeith Stanfield. Photo credit: ©2019 Sheri Determan.
George Tillman Jr.'s powerfully acted Angie Thomas adaptation, "The Hate U Give," earned awards for Best Breakthrough Performance (Amandla Stenberg) and Best Supporting Actor (Russell Hornsby). Two mighty Reginas took home top acting honors for women: Regina King of "Support the Girls" won Best Actress, while Oscar frontrunner Regina King ("If Beale Street Could Talk") was crowned Best Supporting Actress. King's collaboration with "Moonlight" director Barry Jenkins was also named Best Independent Film.
Alfonso Cuarón's "Roma" won Best Foreign Film, while Alan Hicks and Rashida Jones' "Quincy" was awarded Best Documentary. On its way to possibly becoming the first Marvel film to earn a major Oscar, Bob Persichetti, Peter Ramsey and Rodney Rothman's "Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse" was named Best Animated Film. Rounding out the rest of the winners were "Queen Sugar" (Best TV Drama), "Insecure" (Best TV Comedy) and "Red Table Talk" (Best New Media).
Jason Blum of Blumhouse accepted the Cinema Vanguard Award for producing films such as "Get Out" and "BlacKkKlansman," and gave a moving speech about racial healing. He emphasized, however, that he works with women and people of color not because it's the right thing to do, but because he searches for the best, and it's good for business. Taking home the Breakthrough Filmmaker Award was Aneesh Chaganty for his acclaimed thriller, "Searching," which provided a plum lead role for Asian-American actor John Cho.

“Selecting Disney’s 'Black Panther' as the year’s best film was a no-brainer,” stated AAFCA co-founder Shawn Edwards. “Beyond its tremendous reviews  and historic box office performance, the film changed the culture and became a defining moment for Black America. Finally, after years of painfully negative and blatantly harmful depictions of blacks on screen there was a movie full of positive images and characters that blacks could rally around. For many blacks, the film’s release was like a national holiday. The movie sparked a sense of pride and inspired Afro-futurism-theme parties, academic panel discussions, scholarship funds, vacation plans to Africa and thousands of black kids dressing-up like their favorite characters on Halloween. Many have waited a lifetime for a moment like this and 'Black Panther' delivered with a multi-generational appeal never before seen.”
Four days prior to the awards night, AAFCA held its fifth annual Special Achievement Awards luncheon at the California Yacht Club in Marina Del Rey. The event honored seven amazing talents including Pulitzer Prize-winning critic Wesley Morris of The New York Times, whom I was proud to present The Roger Ebert Award, and Tendo Nagenda, Vice President of Original Film at Netflix, who earned The Ashley Boone Award, named for the brother of former Academy head, Carol Boone Isaacs. Buddy Bolden, the legendary musician credited as the originator of jazz, was honored posthumously with the Pioneer Award and a clip of a movie about him by Dan Pritzker was shown.
Kelly Edwards, Senior Vice President of Talent Development at HBO, received the Salute to Excellence Award and Alana Mayo, Head of Production at Outlier Society, was given the Horizon Award  Ruth Carter, the Oscar-nominated costume designer of "Black Panther," received a rousing standing ovation with her speech about how her contributions added to culture and the arts. When asked if she had ever designed clothes for a superhero, she responded that all of her previous movie characters were superheroes. She won the Nissan Innovator Award.
The audience was also happy to see Jon M. Chu presented with the Game Changer Award for his groundbreaking hit comedy, "Crazy Rich Asians."
“It’s been a breakthrough year in cinema on a number of fronts,” said Robertson. “Most significantly, the tremendous success of 'Black Panther' and 'Crazy Rich Asians' clearly demonstrates that films populated by people of color can perform well overseas. AAFCA’s Top 10 marks the first time so many films by or about black identity have made our list, presenting storylines that reflect the diversity that lives within the black community. It was also good to see 'Roma' and 'The Favourite' make our TOP 10 because these films, as well, shine light on themes and storylines representing popular culture.”
AAFCA co-founders Shawn Edwards and Gil Robertson with MC Tichina Arnold. Photo credit: ©2019 Sheri Determan.
AAFCA’s Top Ten Films of 2018:
1. "Black Panther" (Walt Disney Studios)
2. "If Beale Street Could Talk" (Annapurna Pictures)
3. "The Hate U Give" (20th Century Fox)
4. "A Star is Born" (Warner Bros. Studios)
