Essential Truck Accessories for Long Road Trips
by Benjamin Venegas Going on a road trip in a truck can be a fantastic way to explore new destinations.. It can also be a problem if you're not equipped with the proper parts and accessories..... Going on a road trip in a truck can be a fantastic way to explore new destinations, connect with family and friends, and create lasting memories. But it can also be a daunting experience, particularly if you're not equipped with the proper truck parts and accessories. When you're planning a long trip, having the right gear can make all the difference in terms of comfort, safety, and convenience. If you're wondering, "Where can I find truck accessories near me and truck parts near me?" - worry no more! In this article, we'll cover some essential truck accessories that you should consider before hitting the road. For starters, if you own an F150, Dodge Ram, or a Ford truck, you'll want to look into getting high-quality aftermarket truck parts. For example, F150 accessories, Dodge Ram parts, or Ford truck parts that are specifically designed for your make and model can include things like suspension systems, exhaust systems, and performance air filters, which can significantly improve your truck's overall performance and handling. Many of these aftermarket truck parts can be found at your local truck parts store, making it easy to pick them up before your trip. In addition to performance parts, there are also plenty of pickup truck accessories that can make your journey more comfortable and convenient. For example, a truck bed cover can keep your belongings safe and secure while also improving fuel efficiency. A cargo management system can help you organize your gear and keep everything in its place. A set of running boards or side steps can make getting in and out of your truck a breeze, especially if you have kids or older passengers traveling with you. Of course, it's not just about comfort and convenience - safety is also a top priority when traveling long distances in a truck. Consider investing in quality brake pads and rotors, especially if your current ones are worn or outdated. Additionally, you may want to add some extra lighting to your truck, such as LED headlights or fog lights, to improve visibility in low-light conditions. Portable Air Compressor Having a portable air compressor for road trips can be beneficial for several reasons. Firstly, it can help maintain the proper tire pressure of the truck, which is essential for safe and efficient driving. A portable air compressor can be used to inflate tires that have low pressure, helping to prevent a tire blowout, which can be dangerous, especially when driving on the highway. Secondly, a portable air compressor can be used to inflate other items, such as inflatable mattresses, pool toys, and sports equipment, making it a versatile accessory for road trips. This can be particularly useful for camping trips or outdoor activities where these items are necessary. Moreover, a portable air compressor can save time and money. It eliminates the need to search for a gas station with an air pump or pay for the service at a mechanic's shop, which can be costly. With a portable air compressor, drivers can easily inflate tires or other items in their own time and at their own convenience. Lastly, a portable air compressor can be a lifesaver in emergency situations. If a tire goes flat or loses air pressure while on the road, a portable air compressor can be used to temporarily inflate the tire, allowing the driver to reach a safe location for repair. This can be especially helpful if the driver travels in remote areas where assistance may not be readily available. Dash Cam A dash cam is an essential accessory for any road trip enthusiast. It is a small yet powerful device that can capture video footage of your journey, providing a sense of security and peace of mind. With a dash cam, you can record the road ahead and capture any incidents or accidents that may occur. This footage can be used as evidence in the event of an accident or to report any reckless or dangerous driving. Additionally, a dash cam can help deter theft and vandalism by acting as a visible deterrent. It can also provide an opportunity to capture scenic drives or unexpected moments on the road. With the latest technological advancements, many dashcams offer features like night vision, GPS, and motion detection. This makes them a powerful tool for any road trip enthusiast looking to document their journey and stay safe on the road. A dash cam can be a wise investment, providing a sense of security and capturing precious memories for years to come. Portable Jump Starter A dead battery can be a nightmare, especially when you're in the middle of nowhere. A portable jump starter can help you get your truck started quickly and easily without needing another vehicle. Choose a jump starter that is powerful enough to start your truck and has a built-in flashlight for emergencies. Roof Rack Having a roof rack for road trips can offer several benefits. Firstly, it provides additional storage space for items that cannot fit inside the truck, like bicycles, kayaks, skis, or camping gear..... Read More... Read the full article

Wait tell us about some of their boyfriends
Sorry, this took so long! This is an incredibly long post!! It’s under the cut! :)
I definitely misspoke! As not all of them have boyfriends, the relationship status may be different, and Michael’s partner is a woman! But here’re some of the many relationships amongst Ethan and I’s ocs!
Blair’s boyfriend: Salem Raleigh Montgomery, in the normal au, he’s the resident undercover murderer. Despite his horrific backstory, he’s currently cool and collected, calm under pressure. He’s too smart for his own good, cunning and calculating. He always, always gets what he wants. I wouldn’t want to be you if he didn’t. He once killed an entire room of people for no reason but for their entertainment with Atropa Belladonna (deadly nightshade) in tea, and managed to pin the blame on the chef because he purposely poisoned himself and Blair.
Michael’s wife: Maxine “Maxie” Price, she’s a personal trainer and takes part in MMA in her free time, she’s very athletic and competitive, much like her little brother Mason. She’s very empathetic, but she’s hurting quite a lot due to some nasty exes that just don’t quit. But herself and Michael are recovering with one another, and they eventually get married and have a baby called MJ!!
Cameron’s husband: Brice, quite literally Prince Charming, he’s witty and despite his previous distaste of his new partner, he grows to love and adore Cam. When mad, Brice is not someone you wish to deal with, it can get very unpleasant very fast. He also gets sensory overload with the feeling of velvet. He’s quick to gain trust from, but once you break it, he’ll never trust you again.
Damien’s boyfriend: Tristan Harvey, he’s a wizard!! His hair and eyes change colour depending on his mood, and Tris is a very powerful advancing wizard for his age, so when a dashing rogue comes to kill him for reasons unbeknownst to him, it’s safe to say that he’s goddamn terrified. He’s very shy, and struggles with talking to new people. He’s easier to describe as being cute rather than handsome like Damien, but he definitely grows out of that phase pretty quick. He balances magic with family which is a task among itself, but Tris manages just fine. He rarely gets angry as he dislikes it, and is someone eager to please, so he goes out of his way to make others smile.
Thomas’ boyfriend: Flynn Jackson-Kay, Flynn’s a dancer! While dance takes up most of his time, he occasionally does cheerleading at their school for Thomas’s games, and he’s a flyer! They moved across states to get away from their own set of awful parents. He struggles a lot more with his identity of being trans after his stepfather was far from accepting about it, but after a break up period which is the result of a fight Flynn and Thomas had, Flynn collects himself, gets on T, and eventually had surgery, all the while he reconnected with Thomas after so many months apart and they’re stronger than ever.
Phillip’s not-quite-boyfriend: Adonis, he’s a child of Zeus, but he devotes his life to becoming a deicide, specifically Zeus’s in an act of revenge. However, on his quest, he stumbles upon Phillip, does some errands for him, and decides to stick around him for a while. Adonis is spiteful, bitter and angry, as he had rightfully been for a long time. He shows vulnerability in situations he didn’t think he’d ever find himself in and drove himself to the verge of tears, which he was surprised at.
Eli’s boyfriend: Mason Price, Mason’s your average teenager with a fascination for vintage objects, he’s got all the old consoles, cassettes and vinyl records, he’s a major geek but he’s resident protector of his family, he stumbled upon Eli and almost instantly connected with him from a young age, they’d been best friends for years, and Mason’s crush on Eli was too much for him to handle at one point when it all just tumbled out of his mouth. He can be quite shy and bashful at times, but he’s brave when he needs to be. Mase has a tendency to boil over in certain occasions, meaning he’ll take out his anger on anyone and everyone, but he’s healing, and he’s getting control of it now.
Will’s boyfriend: Miles Carter-Harris, he’s the captain of the basketball and boxing team so he may seem intimidating, but he’s a real sweetheart to those he trusts. He’s strong, smart, and tends to persevere with a task given no matter what. He truly softened when his little siblings came along, he melted more and more each time. He and Will his a rocky point when Miles outed himself after a party in which Will was playing spin the bottle and kissed other people, but they’re a lot better than they were then.
Sawyer’s not-quite-boyfriend: Colby, he’s a special case, his powers are shadow based, he’s a teen who raised himself on his own but harnessed his powers incredibly fast. He was very closed off, doing his hero work on his lonesome, that is until he bumped into the cute nervous superhero who wound up in his spot and somehow got convinced to go on a date with him, they’d been hanging out with each other since then. Colby is very bitter, and it manifested enough that he seems very unpleasant to everyone around him.
Owen’s boyfriend: Theo Rosario-O’ Callaghan, he’s pretty extroverted and happy, he bakes a lot with his mother and messes around with both of his parents. He’s very supportive of his boyfriend and helps as much as he possibly can, letting him stay over as much as possible, letting him wear his clothes etc. He’s trusting, loyal and reliable, despite sometimes losing his temper over trivial things. He’s one of the people that fall for their partner more and more every day, but when his little sister Mariana was born and Owen would help out with her, Theo knew immediately that he would never ever meet anyone that even slightly compared to his boyfriend.
Thank you so much for asking about them!! I’ll be happy to tell you more!

Nextbase 422gw Dash Cam Review - QHD, Alexa & Modular Design
nextbase 422gw dash cam - current price
Design
This years Nextbase 422GW Dash cam has same black & brushed metal finish as last years 412. There’s a nice bit of subtle branding with F1.4 aperture markings around the lens. Nextbase has made a concerted effort to make the overall size of the 422GW Dash cam 35% smaller than its 2018 predecessor. Which is always a good thing.
The mounting bracket design has also been improved. When the is mounted it doesn't hang down as far 412 did. Freeing up more important windscreen space. A couple more upgrades to the Nextbase car mount is that it now houses the power port & a powerful magnetic connector for the Dash cam to click on to. This means you can simply pull the Dash cam away from the windscreen mount without having to mess around with cables or even removing the suction mount altogether.
When it comes to the ports onboard the actual dash cam unit itself. There's a Micro USB B port designed to use when connecting the Dash cam to your PC. With that said it can be used to power the battery up, which I did when I set it up. There is also an additional port placed on the side of the Dash cam for rear camera attachments. That's actually 3 different options of the rear cameras. A cabin camera, a rear window camera & a telephoto camera which mounts on the Dash cam and looks over your shoulder. (That's the one I've been testing) The only other port onboard is a Micro SD card slot.
When it comes to physical buttons. There are just three. One power button. A reset button for wiping the device & one very important button to manually protect recordings. For example, you might want to use this when someone cuts you up in traffic or when you see something funny whilst driving. If you don't use this button, due to the loop recording feature your old footage will be overwritten & I'm told the Nextbase 422GW will do this automatically if you're involved in a collision...As much as I enjoy doing these reviews for you guys. I'm not going to crash my car to test this out.
The most exciting thing about the design of the Nextbase 422GW is its 2.5" IPS HD touch screen display. Which brings me nicely onto the Usability.
Usability
When it comes to the new Nextbase range. They all support the MyNextbase app. Which is super easy to set up. One tip here...I advise you to download the Alexa app and create an account in advance. There is a new SOS feature present on the 422gw and you will be prompted to set up a 1year free trail. Which I'll get into in the awesome features section later in the video.
The trickiest part by far when it comes to the installation is running the power cable. As standard with the kit is a 12watt cigarette lighter power cable and an interior prying tool. The difficulty may vary depending on the make and model of the car. My best advice is to give it a go yourself. If you make a mess of it. It's around £20 for the direct power cable at Halfords, and you can pay them a couple of quid to fit it professionally for you.
Once set up and positioned correctly. It's a case of choosing the best video resolution settings for you and you're ready to roll out. Within the onscreen settings, you want to customize the Dash cam a bit more. You adjust the (gyroscope) G sensor which affects the Intelligent parking mode. There's the option to adjust what is shown on top of the footage. For example the time, location and speed you're traveling at. There is also a dual record-setting called auto-sync. Going back to the MyNextbase app now. When driving your footage if you enable the dual record feature the 422gw will be store footage locally on the Micro SD card & also a lower res file will be transferred to your device.
There is also a desktop version of the MyNextbase app available. Which is very useful for stitching your footage together & diving into a bit more depth.
Video Quality Samples
Awesome features
So one of the most awesome new features is the addition of Alexa's support. Now one thing I need to make very clear is that Alexa requires a connection to your phone and your phone's data to work. Essentially your smartphone does most of the heavy lifting here. With that said the integrated mics on the front of Nextbase 422GW really assist with the Alexa functionality. There are several voice-commands you cam use specific to the Dash cam. Like 'Alexa protect that recording' or 'Alexa brighten the contrast'. There are tons more available...and if you have more Alexa products at home you can talk to your dash cam to control them.
The new MyNextbase SOS feature is actually a monthly premium service. However Nextbase are nice enough give you it for free for the first year. In event of an accident & you become unconscious the Nextbase 422gw will automatically send your vehicle details & location to emergency services. Within the MyNextbase mobile app you can even enter you medical details for example allergies and blood group to further assist the ambulance service. So that’s pretty awesome.
Have you ever left your car parked & then returned to it later to find a new dent of scrape? If the answer is yes, the you will love the Nextbase Intelligent parking mode with G Sensor. When you leave your car unattended the Nextbase 422gw will use it’s reserve battery in case of an impact. It will automatically switch one and record the culprit so you have some evidence to use should this happen to you. It really is an awesome feature, and can potentially save you some money & maybe your no claims bonus.

Owlcam
Car sprint cameras provide the essential goal of regularly recording in the function of an accident, but they can be finicky and troublesome to operate and accessibility adequately.
Owlcam is one particular of the couple of that is not. It’s a clever dash digital camera that utilizes LTE company to are living stream and store both of those interior- and exterior-struggling with films that can be accessed from everywhere with your smartphone. You will never have to get worried about if anything was captured or not.
Furthermore, the Owlcam acts as a security method when your car is parked. You will get notifications for attainable impacts or burglary makes an attempt.
Priced at $349, Owlcam is a bit extra pricey than most other sprint cameras, but taking into consideration all the characteristics and comfort, I feel it is truly worth it. If it can guard you from remaining accused of currently being at fault for a single incident or from a person theft, it’ll pay out itself off.
If you very own a automobile, you ought to do anything in your ability to protect it.
But even if you are the most secure driver on the road, accidents are regrettably not often avoidable – and they are high priced to repair. Beyond possessing motor vehicle insurance (which every driver ought to have), the upcoming finest thing you can do to protect on your own and your trip is to put in a sprint camera.
The premise of dash cameras is uncomplicated. You mount a digicam on your sprint to record 24/7 just in scenario an accident takes place. It is a clever way to cover by yourself from reckless motorists or even these that built an sincere oversight.
But a not-so-good system with grainy video, bad audio, and constrained storage place for recording can very easily turn out to be more of a headache than an added safety evaluate. Which is where by Owlcam arrives into participate in.
Built to work with all cars and trucks model yr 1996 or newer with the exception of Teslas, the Owlcam is a sensible dash digital camera that plugs into your car’s OBDII port. What separates it from most other sprint cameras is its two Hd cameras (1 road-facing and the other inside-going through), its LTE connectivity for movie storage, and its integrated smartphone app.
These attributes tackle difficulties of capturing footage which is difficult to plainly make out and the consistent need to have for clearing SD cards for storage place. Additionally, it supplies a level of stability and car or truck checking that most sprint cameras absence altogether.
Read much more: This $70 scanner can diagnose your car’s difficulties and preserve you money on repairs
How to set it up
The very first stage to placing up the Digicam is downloading the Owl Car or truck Cam application on the Application Retail outlet or Google Play. It is truly worth noting that you will have to have an Apple iphone 6 or newer with iOS 11 or an Android with the Oreo or Pie functioning system. The manufacturer has examined types including Google Pixel 2/2XL, Samsung Galaxy S8/S9, and LG V30, but comparable more recent products like the Google Pixel 3 and Samsung Galaxy S10 really should perform wonderful, too.
Upcoming, you will need to have to identify your car’s OBDII port, which can ordinarily be located on the driver’s aspect of the interior on the lessen sprint. I utilized my mom’s 2007 Honda CR-V to check the digital camera out (my vintage autos are much too aged) and the port was situated pretty much specifically beneath the steering wheel. If your car’s port is not right away visible, examine your car’s proprietors guide or do a fast Google look for. At the time you have positioned yours, it’s time to put in the camera on your dash and run the wire to your OBDII port.
In the box, you will find the camera, the digital camera mount, the OBDII port adapter, electrical power wire, and a software utilised for tucking the wire in the crease of the dash and windshield. Owlcam claims you can comprehensive the entire set up procedure in six minutes, but I wanted to make certain my camera was exactly in the middle of the dash and that the wire was neatly concealed, so I invested a minor bit additional time than that. Once the camera is plugged in and your car or truck is on, the on-display screen directions will information you through pairing it to the application. I really like that the installation doesn’t require any tough-to-reverse modifications, so if you ever determine to just take it out, you will not be left with sticky adhesive on your dashboard.

Owlcam
How it operates on the street
A driver’s worst nightmare is finding into an incident, only to be wrongly accused of staying at fault (nicely, probably this is the second worst nightmare). When all dash cameras, in theory, provide the key objective of capturing footage you require as evidence for coverage companies or police, they can be inconvenient to use and are usually unreliable. Owning to frequently make confident they are in fact on and recording with adequate storage place to capture footage can effortlessly render lots of dash cameras worthless when they are desired the most. But with Owlcam, that is in no way an difficulty. As very long as it’s plugged in, equally HDs cameras are recording, and since the product takes advantage of LTE assistance, it is quickly saved to the Owlcam application.
In addition to street security, the Owlcam can also be applied for entertaining on the street. If you see a little something great on the highway like a uncommon supercar or you and your travellers come to a decision to have a auto karaoke session, merely say “Ok Presto” to begin recording a clip from possibly camera that will be despatched directly to you – there’s no require to go into the app to retrieve it.

Owlcam
How it operates when you’re parked
What truly separates the Owlcam from most other dash cameras on the market place are the several attributes it has when you are not in the car or truck and on the road. Even though it doesn’t consistently save online video recordings as it would when your car or truck is on (for the sake of not draining your car or truck battery), the Owlcam is prompted to conserve the video clip if an affect or split-in is detected. If your vehicle is parked and an individual hits it, you are going to be right away notified of a possible effect, and it will mail footage starting from prior to the impression to the application. If your vehicle is parked and is still left uninterrupted, that footage is not actively saved.
On top of that, the Owlcam does a truly terrific work at deterring burglars. If the environmentally friendly flashing gentle isn’t enough to make a would-be thief feel 2 times and they do crack into your car, they’ll be welcomed by two vibrant LED flood lights to enable them know they’re visible and on digicam. After you are notified of the split-in, you can use the dwell online video stream and two-way audio perform to see what they’re doing and to yell at them until eventually they flee.
While I have not had to deal with automobile thieves or burglars, I can affirm that this functionality is effective effectively. Owlcam pairs to your smartphone via Bluetooth as a way to detect you coming into. Considering the fact that I set up the system in my mom’s car or truck, I’d get a notification to my telephone when she entered her car, which would be a lot more alarming if I knew somebody else was not intended to be driving. I attempted the two-way audio with her and it will work with out fault.
The bottom line
It’s been a number of months considering the fact that I 1st been given the Owlcam overview and it’s been a good addition to the car. Apart from uninstalling it to take a look at and evaluation other products and solutions that have to have an OBDII plug-in, it’s been utilised every day by my mother on her commutes to and from do the job.
Luckily, I have under no circumstances been in an accident, but I felt a lot extra protected with Owlcam mounted when I drove the vehicle. Priced at $349, Owlcam isn’t the most affordable sprint digital camera, but it is properly worthy of it – primarily if you are driving the wheel a ton like my mother. You’ll have peace of thoughts being aware of that your automobile is greater protected at all situations – regardless of whether you’re on the highway or not. And, if it can help you save you from currently being accused of an accident that wasn’t your fault or from possessing your automobile burglarized or stolen entirely, the selling price tag is outweighed tenfold.

Season 6, Mission 20: Peacekeeper
In the corridors of power
JANINE DE LUCA: The Laundry won't be able to take us much further than this.
AMELIA SPENS: Oh, you do surprise me. I did say I wasn't going to be coming along on this one, Janine. I was clear.
SAM YAO: Look, Amelia, you won't knock your street cred or whatever by helping us with this one. I mean, it's hardly a fatal flaw, is it? "Cares about babies." Like, if you're attacked by someone who uses that against you, you probably shouldn't be trying to make them be your friend, anyway.
AMELIA SPENS: All weaknesses can be fatal, especially in this apocalypse. And I don't see why I have to be the one to come along on a mission to Sigrid's private palace.
JANINE DE LUCA: We're all here for a reason. Mr. Yao will run comms. I am ops. Runner Five is the runner. You, Miss Spens, still have retina-based login access to Mr. Valmont's security systems, which means that if we find a very safe, quiet little room, you'll be able to logon to Sigrid's personal network and download the files we need on Project Angelica, Sigrid's code name for her repulsive baby-based serum factory. We go in, we get what we want, we leave.
AMELIA SPENS: I don't see why you didn't just ask Brent, to be honest.
SAM YAO: Uh, what?
AMELIA SPENS: You managed to find Selma before seven teams of Ministry-supported bounty hunters. Either you got luckier than sin, or you have access to ANNIE.
JANINE DE LUCA: We know your relationship with Mr. Valmont ended badly. We did not want to distress you.
AMELIA SPENS: It's not possible to distress me, Janine, except by foiling my plans or getting between me and a hot oil treatment. If you want to ally with Valmont, that's your own lookout. But I want to make it utterly clear that if there's anything for me to gain by betraying you to Sigrid, I will.
JANINE DE LUCA: Understood. Dr. Maxted and the Laundry have told us Sigrid is hosting a banquet this evening to bring some new allies over to her side by giving them vials of her serum.
SAM YAO: The palace is actually an old Oxford college, but there'll just be a skeleton crew running it tonight because of security. Ellie's actually a guest at the banquet. So we get in, we find out the location of Project Angelica, hey presto! Babies. Mm, that sounds like I'm pulling babies out of a hat. That's weird.
AMELIA SPENS: [parks vehicle] So, to reiterate, we have one reason to be here: to find the babies. No heroics, no side quests. I'm looking at you, Runner Five. No dashing off thinking you can save the world, and getting me into trouble. I will betray you to save myself. Get it?
SAM YAO: Got it.
AMELIA SPENS: Good. Come along. We have to get in quickly and get what we want before the guests arrive. Let's go! [opens vehicle door]
[lock pick jiggles in lock]
AMELIA SPENS: [whispers] Bloody hell. Couldn't you pick that lock any louder, Janine?
[door creaks open]
JANINE DE LUCA: It's done now. It should make for a safe way out in a few minutes when we have your intel.
SAM YAO: Five, you lead the way. The nearest access point to Sigrid's logistics systems is through those seven receiving rooms. Then up the stairs, then you double back on yourselves. Huh. The place does seem really empty.
[door opens]
JANINE DE LUCA: Peculiar. This room seems to be dedicated to... a museum of some sort.
AMELIA SPENS: Not a museum, a plan. You know how she's always going on about her perfect society and the Wakened Land? Look, there are model villages under glass.
SAM YAO: Oh, yeah. Yeah, I've got you on cams now. Wow, it's like the biggest game of SimCity ever! Perfect arrangement of shops on the island. What island?
JANINE DE LUCA: This model is labeled "Fossy Head Island." What is she planning?
AMELIA SPENS: I thought I explained a moment ago, no time for heroics! No finding out just one thing. We're in Sigrid's palace, and her guards might find us at any minute. And when I say "us," I mean me. If we don't move quickly, I'm dead.
[keyboard clicks, security system beeps]
ANNIE: Welcome, Mr. Valmont. How may I help you today?
AMELIA SPENS: For one thing, turn volume to zero. [types on keyboard] Right. Good. Now, I'll just bring up the logistics file tree.
SAM YAO: Yeah. Wow. I've got a cam on you. That is a lot of files.
AMELIA SPENS: And we will just sit here quietly while I go through them all to find mentions of Project Angelica. Remember, Janine? Like how you made me sit quietly on that stool?
JANINE DE LUCA: Very well.
[keyboard clicks, computer beeps]
AMELIA SPENS: Look at this! All Sigrid's orders for this banquet. How hilarious! She's taken a lot of trouble over the flowers. [laughs] Look at this. Orders for substance B3 to be added to the dishes of three diners.
Hmm. So if I cross-reference substance B3 with this spreadsheet... oh, it's zombie virus. Well, Sigrid certainly doesn't know how to throw a party. Hey-ho. Right. Dockets. I'm going to need to go through them manually. It'll take a few minutes.
JANINE DE LUCA: Miss Spens, are you trying to tell me that some of the diners tonight will be eating food laced with zombie virus?
AMELIA SPENS: Yes. [laughs] Look at this. She shipped a stuffed antelope as a gift to Devil Fish!
SAM YAO: And you don't know which people are going to be eating that food, Amelia?
AMELIA SPENS: No. There are no names in this database, just place setting numbers. I suppose the names will be on the table plan in the vestibule. [sighs] But we've had this conversation already. No heroics. No getting me found and shot.
JANINE DE LUCA: Miss Spens, our friend, Ellie Maxted, the leader of the resistance in the Ministry, will be at that banquet. The Minister clearly plans a purge. We cannot leave Miss Maxted here to die. I will brook no contradiction.
Five, come with me. We will enter the vestibule swiftly. If Miss Maxted is to be poisoned, we will warn her. Miss Spens, can you turn off the security alarms along our route?
AMELIA SPENS: [sighs] Yes. But only for a few minutes.
JANINE DE LUCA: Good enough. Five, we must be swift. Party guests are already beginning to arrive and we cannot be spotted in this building. Come with me. Run.
SAM YAO: Janine, Five, how's it going? You're safe for now, but there are people in that building. You need to keep moving.
JANINE DE LUCA: Nearly there, Mr. Yao. They've locked down half the doors in this building. Evidently, they're concerned about security. Have you any identification on the banquet attendees?
SAM YAO: Mm, yeah. I'll just check my cams. Uh, yeah. Yeah, I see Ellie there. And it looks like – [laughs] well, I mean, it looks like a bunch of Sigrid's best mates are here. Uh, yeah, there's that bloke who runs Worthington-on-Sea. You remember? Called himself Raoul, but he's actually called Ralph. And senior members of the civil service. All her top allies. Scorpion Fang's there, too.
JANINE DE LUCA: She'll purge those who she deems disloyal at a banquet. Typical strategy for a paranoid tyrant. How's Miss Spens getting on?
AMELIA SPENS: Yes, I am getting on with the task at hand. Thank you, Janine. I have noticed that Brent Valmont is on the guest list here. I presume he hasn't arrived yet?
SAM YAO: I, uh... I don't see him, no.
AMELIA SPENS: He's always late for everything. Sometimes by several days. But when he does arrive, the system will log him as being in two places at once, and spit out an error message. Then Sigrid's soldiers will come looking for me, and when I say "me" on this occasion, I mean you, because I will already have escaped.
The party guests are already milling around in the reception hall. If you want to go and do more detective work, you'll have to be fast.
[page turns]
JANINE DE LUCA: And the last seat number, Mr. Yao.
SAM YAO: Table five, seat H.
JANINE DE LUCA: Also not Miss Maxted. Good. Our ally has not been discovered, and will not be poisoned here today. Peculiar, though. Tell me that number again, Mr. Yao.
SAM YAO: Uh, yeah. Table five, seat H. Right, Amelia?
AMELIA SPENS: Yes. Correct. Get on with it.
JANINE DE LUCA: That is the Minister's seat at the party.
AMELIA SPENS: Oh well. If she's planning to turn herself into a zombie, that's one less problem for us, isn't it? You need to get ready to come back here, anyway. There are some references to Project Angelica. I'm having to link them up to specific distribution lines, which is a bit tricky, but I should have the location of the baby serum factory in a few minutes.
JANINE DE LUCA: Then we have a few minutes. Five, there is more vital intelligence in this building than we've encountered in a year. Mr. Yao, where can we eavesdrop?
SAM YAO: Uh, yeah, yeah. On it, on it. Um, right, yeah. Uh, there are two generals who've just gone into a cloakroom to talk. If you head up those stairs to your left and run along the floor above, you could come down the service staircase at the other end of the building and overhear them.
AMELIA SPENS: Janine? If you and Five aren't back here when I'm ready to leave, I'm going alone. And I'll reset the security alarms we disabled on that floor.
SAM YAO: Yeah. Guys, there are party guests spreading all over the ground floor of the building now. You need to be quick.
JANINE DE LUCA: And we will be. Five, with me. Run.
[door shuts]
JANINE DE LUCA: All right. We're in position. Keep still and quiet, Five.
[liquid poors]
GENERAL 1: To the day the land awakens!
GENERAL 2: To that glorious day!
[glasses clink]
GENERAL 1: Soon may that day come.
[glass shatters]
GENERAL 2: We shall learn the plans today, I think. The Minister has me in her confidence. She told me that today is the day she will announce her invasion plans.
GENERAL 1: For the invasion of the enemy?
GENERAL 2: [laughs] Abel Township is only the beginning. Her plans are larger than that.
SAM YAO: Did you hear that? Did they say invasion of Abel Township?
JANINE DE LUCA: I heard it, Mr. Yao. Runner Five, we must learn what is going to be announced here tonight. We will never have this chance again.
I will conceal myself in the room above the banqueting hall. You run now and hide yourself in the minstrels' gallery. We must know what Sigrid's plans are. Mr. Yao, Miss Spens, we just need a few minutes more. Five, go. Run.
[cutlery clinks against glass, speaker squeals]
SIGRID HAKKINEN: Gentlemen and ladies, allies and subordinates, welcome. It is a joy to see your faces here today. We have worked so hard, and come through so much to be here. And I know you're eager to learn my plans. I'm eager to share them with you. Please, bring on the case.
[cartwheels squeak]
JANINE DE LUCA: Mr. Yao, I presume you have no cameras in this room.
SAM YAO: No, nothing. What's going on?
JANINE DE LUCA: Sigrid has just had a large case wheeled across the stage towards her. It is leather, with brass clips. Showy. She's undoing the clips. She's opening the case. Inside are arrayed a series of vials containing a golden liquid.
SAM YAO: Ah, it's the baby serum.
JANINE DE LUCA: I think not.
[vials clink]
SIGRID HAKKINEN: Gentlemen and ladies, it has been long promised, but now I have it. Behold, the cure to the zombie virus!
[audience gasps and applauds]
SAM YAO: Oh, bloody hell! She's got the cure? No, she must be lying. Mustn't she?
AMELIA SPENS: I'm afraid not. I've found a note here. Project Angelica has reached phase two. I think I've worked out where Project Angelica is. It's not going to be easy to get to those babies, even by our usual standards.
SIGRID HAKKINEN: Yes, this is the cure. A single injection of this drug will cure a person recently bitten by a zombie. No longer need we live in fear. A zombie bite will be no more deadly than a wasp sting. We have it at last. [audience applauds] And one more wonderful landmark on this glorious day: I can announce that we have captured the subversive, the enemy of the people who has been a thorn in all our sides: Runner Five.
SAM YAO: Oh no. Five, get out of there! [doors rattle] Janine, they've locked the door. Five's trapped!
SIGRID HAKKINEN: Pull back the curtain. Runner Five, I know you're there. And I happen to know your weakness.
[device beeps, audio distorts]
MOONCHILD: [fades in] What is she doing? What is she doing?
SAM YAO: [muffled] Janine, you've got to get Five out of there!
SIGRID HAKKINEN: [fades in] You're mine now, Runner Five.

2017 Harley Street Rod First Ride Review
2017 Harley-Davidson Street Rod (Brian J. Nelson Photos) The Street Rod Breaks New GroundWhen you walk up to a new Harley-Davidson you expect to see some classic cues from the marque’s long and storied history. When you turn the ignition on and start it up you’d probably anticipate hearing and feeling a loud rumbling engine. When you click into gear and let out the clutch you’d expect the thud of a gear change and a relaxed ride as you pull away from a stop. Well, that might all be true if you were talking about any new Harley-Davidson model other than the 2017 Street Rod. This bike doesn’t rely on history to deliver its riding experience. It doesn’t comply with the rule book that The Motor Company has adhered to for so many decades. This might be the bike for people who want a Harley but don’t want grandpa’s Harley. The new Street Rod is a variation on a theme. It’s a cross between the popularity of modern cafe racer culture and the affordability and size of the standard Street 500 and 750 offerings. Don’t be mistaken – this is not a Street 750 with a few accessories bolted on. There are probably as many different things on this bike as ones that are the same on a Street 750. The list of upgrades, changes, and improvements over the standard model is long. This new Street Rod doesn’t replace the Street 750, but it does offer a ready-made higher performance version of it. If the Street 750 is an affordable entry-level cruiser for the masses, then the Street Rod is the black sheep of the family that just can’t conform. Having never ridden the stock Street 750, I had no preconceived notions of what to expect and went into this test with an open mind. What I came away with was a fun, nearly exhilarating ride on a compact naked standard. Not all was perfect, as I did have a couple of qualms, but overall the Street Rod is a cool ride.As stated, the Street Rod may be in the Street line of bikes, but differences are large. Starting with the frame, the Street Rod’s is different to accommodate changes to the induction system of the High Output Revolution X V-twin engine. And the 3.5-gallon teardrop fuel tank has been moved forward, too. This 749cc water-cooled engine redlines at 9000 rpm, has 8 percent more torque output, and 18-20 percent more peak power than a standard version thanks to a higher 12.0:1 compression ratio, dual throat throttle body, and larger air box volume. The engine has revised intake tracts, an aluminum intake, scoop-like air cleaner, and a different camshaft profile. Overall torque output is advertised to be 47.2 ft-lbs. at 4000 rpm, which might not impress the Big Twin fans, but remember, this engine is less than half the size of a Twin Cam, and the bike is a heck of a lot lighter. The engine sound is not distinctively Harley-sounding; no lopey cadence here, as it’s almost a sewing-machine-smooth mill. It provides snappy performance and a mild sound from the shorter and wider exhaust. Best of all, the estimated fuel economy of this package is a whopping 54 mpg. I’m not against mid-sized engines at all. Some of my favorite bikes fall in the mid-sized category. And the Street Rod provided plenty of grins when the throttle was rolled on.
Holding up that steel frame is a new suspension and swingarm package that provides a whopping 30 percent more suspension travel than the run-of-the-mill Street. Up front are 43mm nonadjustable inverted forks and out back are twin piggyback reservoir rear shocks with preload adjustment only. The sides of the steel swingarm have scalloped indentations that emulate the opening you’d see on the swingarm of a XR1200 Sportster. It’s a neat styling cue. The huge rear axle diameter and flange nut undoubtedly add strength to the rear end. Those suspension components offer increased travel, raise the bike up, and are tuned for a firm and sporty ride and greater lean angle. All this is connected to a pair of 17″ open-spoke cast aluminum wheels carrying factory-equipped Michelin Scorchers. This is great news, as there’s a multitude of sporty aftermarket rubber available for this diameter wheel. Turning the throttle and throwing the Street Rod into a corner, I was rewarded with more than enough power, firmness, and clearance to pull me through the twisties. Stopping the rolling package are dual 300mm front disc brakes with two-piston calipers and a single 300mm disc out back, with ABS available as an option. The Street Rod has a two-piece, two-up seat with a perforated finish sitting at a 29.8″ seat height versus the 25.7″ of the Street 750. FYI, the rear seat is not quick release, and there’s no storage under the seat. I like the taller bike height, and, actually, I would have appreciated maybe a little bit of a taller seat to put my body in the right position on the bike. Unfortunately, with my 34″ inseam and the slightly-back-from-midset footpeg location, I found the seating position to be slightly cramped, especially on the right side. I found myself riding with the ball of my foot on the footpeg, and my right heel resting on the factory-placed exhaust heel guard. Then when rear braking application was needed, I had to reposition my foot to get my toe on the brake pedal. Unfortunately footpeg position is not adjustable, and the massive right-side exhaust made packaging the pegs this way mandatory. Also, when coming to a stop, I had a tendency to skewer my right calf. So I’m looking forward to seeing what the aftermarket can develop in the way of a smaller exhaust, and hopefully some relocated pegs follow suit. From the seat the reach to the factory 7/8″-diameter drag bar handlebar puts the rider in a slightly leaned-forward aggressive riding position. During my ride I was actually wondering if my cramped leg condition would be alleviated with the addition of a Superbike-bend handlebar to straighten me up a little in the seat. Kudos to Harley for building what might be the best set of bar-end mirrors to ever grace the tips of a handlebar. I was impressed with the adjustability, stability, and rear view ability from these simple little mirrors. When I asked if I could acquire some for my own bike, I was pleased to hear that Harley-Davidson already offers these through its Parts & Accessories catalog, in both 7/8″-diameter and 1″-diameter bar sizes. Just ahead of the drag bar is a 3.5″ electronic speedometer equipped with odometer, trip meter, LED indicator lights, low fuel warning indicator, and a small LCD panel with the usual Harley functions.
The Street Rod dash includes a 3.5″ electronic speedometer equipped with odometer, trip meter, LED indicator lights, low fuel warning indicator, and a small LCD panel.Just ahead of the gauge is a color-matched speed screen over the headlight. By the way, the three factory colors available are Vivid Black, Charcoal Denim, and Olive Gold. The body’s tail section looks a little like the XR1200 unit, albeit a bit shorter. The taillight and signals are all LED, and I like the styling of the lights and body. The LED taillight is plenty visible from behind, and there’s a sporty triple-slotted rear fender just below. The feds mandate that bikes have to have those plastic atrocities, but at least this one looks cool. Some of the quirky little things I noticed might take just a short time for the average Harley rider to get used to. For example, the blade-style ignition key sticks straight forward under the handlebar clamp (not downward as you’d expect). The locking gas cap is Japanese-bike-esque, and so is the signal light switch (all functions on the left switchpod). But in the same breathe I can say I appreciate the locking front forks with the lock cylinder built into the frame neck.Harley-Davidson is gearing this bike towards the new urban rider, a younger and hipper crowd that wants to zip around the city. While not a full-on cafe racer, it’s more of a modern sprinter with plenty of curvy backroad capabilities. Barring my couple of call-outs on peg position and small insignificant hardware placement it’s an overall winner in my book. It’s got the improvements I would have made on the standard Street right off the bat. AIM

Robot buying guide for your kids
Parents often buy cool robot toys for their children with the hopes that it will spark an interest in science and engineering. I know because I was one of them. But often parents are left disappointed as these bots are nothing more than remote control droids. Yet, I still believe robots carry a high potential for learning through play.
With the help of four tester families, boys and girls ranging from five to 11 years of age, tested as many robots as possible in the past year in order to explore the learning potential and how much adult support might be needed. Some robots were played with for 10 hours and some for over 500 hours as the robots varied in complexity and function. We specifically looked for toys that had the power to really engage kids, would challenge them, but at the same time leave them feeling accomplished and excited for the more ways to learn.
The good news is 2014 truly is the Year of the Robot: So many toys that allow children to program robots easily have entered the market this year. In their own ways, many of them demonstrate the benefits of coding to youngsters through hands on toys that will immediately execute the programs the kids have created. Until now, much of learning how to code has been screen-based. There are many good robot toys out there, especially ones with ability to use coding but not every robot is right for everyone. Do Robotic Pool Cleaners Really Work https://www.robotsden.com/do-robotic-pool-cleaners-really-work
Here’s an in-depth look at our favorites:
1. Forget everything you think you know about robots A toddler tries to drive the Sphero with the iPad mini. How is this a robot? Where are the eyes, the legs? All of these are good questions and yet, this spherical wonder embodies many of the traits that I value in a modern robot toy. The first is that it is rather indestructible. I’ve stepped on it and ran it into the wall many times. Additionally, the Sphero 2.0 can not only get wet but it can actually swim! Best of all, this bot is rather easy to just pick up and play with—all you need is a phone or tablet to drive it. To drive it well, your child must practice but there is a payoff once she is able. A variety of apps allow users to drive Sphero while videotaping it simultaneously, test hand-eye reflexes, or even play golf with Sphero. To add to the excitement, Sphero released additional accessories and stunt products including the chariot, which basically turns Sphero into a transport vehicle with a cellphone slot (think drive-cam) and a special rooftop that can fit LEGO-like bricks.
The $20 Chariot for Sphero makes it compatible to this tester’s huge LEGO collection.
Since gifting the first-gen Sphero to my son two years ago, I have watched the company grow into an entity that continues to put learning first. This year, Orbotix, the makers of Sphero created SPRK, a program that teaches programming with Sphero and its cousin, the Ollie, a cylindrical robot named after a skateboard stunt. Our official tester, an 11-year-old girl in the sixth grade, had a blast learning how to program her powerful Ollie, which can run as fast as 14mph, with her dad. Keyword arduino robot arm source code https://www.robotsden.com/7-arduino-robotic-arm-project-ideas-tutorial-plus-source-code
Seven-year-old testing to see if you can use Ollie to give yourself a foot massage.
So impressed with Ollie, her father bought two Spheros for her cousins so that they could swim with their new robots since they have a pool. My children tested Sphero for months, love it as well as the new accessories but it is Ollie who is on my eldest’s (a 10-year-old) wish list since it was released this fall. Thus, Santa will leave Darkside Ollie under the tree this year. I am hoping the investment will end up paying for itself as we’ve discovered Ollie’s powerful motor gives excellent back massages, even better than Sphero does.
2. Robots teach best if they don’t intimidate
Connecting a sequence of programming blocks to be scanned by KIBO. For some, the idea of preschoolers learning to code may seem preposterous but I think it makes perfect sense. Coding is very much like learning a new language and without a doubt, early exposure can make a big difference. However, what I like most about coding is how it promotes breaking things down to problem solving. For any child, learning to code is mostly a two-dimensional process but most educators will tell you that three-dimensional play is better for the very young. Enter KIBO, a robot that scans bar codes from color-coded wooden blocks with images that are connected easily by pegs. Each block has a directive i.e. shake, turn right, sing. Together, the directives make one programming sequence to be scanned. Unlike most robots, KIBO is different because it’s rather simple-looking. Scanning a programming sequence one block at a time with KIBO. I later learned that KIBO was purposely designed this way based on research from Tufts University’s Dev Tech Research Group. The creators felt that plain-looking robots could reduce the kind of apprehension that hinder young children, like my seven-year-old, from wanting to explore. I was made a believer when on the first day of playing with KIBO: I saw this same child pick up this unusual looking robot and start to scan coding blocks to make a new program as if he had been doing it all year long. remote control car with night vision https://www.robotsden.com/best-remote-control-car-with-night-vision
To be sure, looking approachable is an excellent attribute for inviting curiosity. Similarly, the very adorable Ozobot, which is smaller than a ping pong ball, still manages to teach many lessons in basic programming. Ozobot follows black lines and will follow your orders (spin, zigzag, go fast) if you draw different color code sequences in between the black lines. No tablets are necessary, but putting your Ozobot on a tablet will broaden its possibilities dramatically. My favorite app is Ozodraw where children are able create a path for Ozobot just by simply dragging and dropping coding blocks onto his path on the screen. There are also puzzles where users must figure out which code would help Ozobot complete its path.
Ozobot can be played with on screen or on paper.
3. The quintessential robot
Checking out the LEGO Mindstorms EV3 at World Maker Faire 2014. The EV3 really embodies the concept of what most people think a robot should be—a machine that can be programmed to perform various tasks. Its modular design means the robot structure can be changed and the programmable “brain” is there so that it can do a job without being given a direction at every single step. The difference is simple: a typical programmed task might have an if/then clause involved. “If my right sensor bumps into something, I will turn left.” A remote control droid would need a person to push a button once he sees that his robot bumped his right side. LEGO EV3 is a terrific transition from pretend play to productivity but it isn’t for everyone. Some parents may think that robotics is a natural next step after building the more complex LEGO sets but, a child must be interested by the potential to build and to code in order for this toy to be successful. Parental help, however, is necessary in two big ways: Wrangling stubborn computers when downloading software or programs and understanding complex directions. (Note that LEGO directions are awesome. When reading pdf instructions on a screen, the pegs will literally move into their respective places!). Additionally, when facing building challenges, children will need a coach-like mentor, someone who can provide moral support and ask the right questions so that the child can figure out a solution.
Two testers, 8 and 10, build and code VEX IQ Robotics Construction Kit. Much of this also applies to another system, the VEX IQ Robotics Construction Kit that uses the free open source Modkit for VEX for programming. This kit is new to consumers but the education VEX IQ sets have been available in the education market for years. Both VEX IQ and LEGO EV3 have somewhat different packages from their education set counterparts, which contain trays for parts, rechargeable batteries—basically they are more designed for classroom use. Our testers tested the LEGO Education EV3 set as well and were very happy with it because it comes with rechargeable battery and organizing crates as well as a full curriculum dedicated to teaching programming via EV3. toy robot that blows smoke https://www.robotsden.com/toy-robot-that-blows-smoke-gifts-to-delight-your-inquisitive-kid
4. Design and personality enhances potential
Figuring out how to get Dash to play a song. If there were such a contest, Dot and Dash would tie for the Cutest Robot of the Year Award. These do not have a humanoid shape and yet these bots from Wonder Workshop’s seem to be the most life-like of any of the robots we’ve tested. Despite the cuteness and simulated eye blinks, there are brains beneath the beauty here. Blockly is a program that can be downloaded onto kids’ iPads so that they can easily create programs for Dot and Dash. Both have the potential to be fun playmates as well as useful desk pets. My 10-year-old son who enjoys building more than coding was highly motivated to program Dot to be a timer because it’s simply adorable.
Homemade code to transform Dot or Dash into a personal reading timer. First your bot will say “okay” and turn red, and then in 10 minutes, turn yellow, then in another 10 minutes, he will turn green, say “Weee” and “Buh Bye” and so your child will know time is up, he can go play.
This factor can be a game changer for some kids. Sometimes Dot says “OK” with a sigh or even snores if he’s been left alone. The best part is that you can also program it to do these things and more. Make Dot become a reading timer by starting out red, then yellow, then turning green after 20 minutes as required by many homework reading logs. This 6-year-old girl was laughing as she moved Dash around while the older boy was adding accessories to it. Personality and cuteness is another plus for WowWee’s MiP that can balance itself and more all while rolling on two wheels. Its nonsensical mumblings belong to no language and yet is easily understood by kids. Kid testers have said MiP would be good to help combat loneliness. Sure enough, it is a worthy companion in the morning as we wait for the school bus to arrive.
5. Coding is important but so is the machine
Building a scissor lift with Remote Control Machines DLX. Believe it or not, there is a lack of modular toys that offer remote control capabilities. LEGO Education WeDo with software is a great example and is especially terrific because it can be programmed with free programming language Scratch. However, if you are looking for something that doesn’t really involve programming or require parents, consider the Remote Control Machines DLX set from Thames and Kosmos, an expert in high quality science toys. Their large, full-color instructional manuals support self-directed learning, allow kids to choose from 20 different builds, and read how these machines apply to the real world.
Remote Control Machines DLX should really be called Remote Control Machines 2.0 because it’s not a kit with more pieces, rather, everything from pieces to instruction manual is new and improved from the original Remote Control Machines set. Additionally, the builds in DLX are all different from the original Remote Control Machines set. The DLX is compatible with the pieces in other Thames and Kosmos sets that explore other facets in engineering such as gyroscopes, spring action, hydraulics and pneumatics, to name a few. While programming isn’t offered here, it’s good for kids to learn about the mechanisms they would actually need to program in real life. Other kits that allow children to explore how sensors are used in robots are MOSS Zombonitron 1600 and the littleBits Premium Kit. Additionally fun low-cost DIY sets like the MAKE: Spinbot Kit and Brushbots from the Maker Shed are snappy tools for learning about motors as well as entertaining.

Do You Need a 4K UHD Dashcam? VAVA Thinks So, And They’re Right
Our verdict of the 4K UHD Dash Cam Car Dashboard Camera: With a wide-angle lens, the 4K is vital for spotting vehicle registrations and other details obscured by lower resolutions. The choice of frame rates and quality of the night vision contribute to make the VAVA 4K UHD Dash Cam perhaps the most advanced dashcam we've reviewed. It lacks a rear camera, but otherwise this is a dashcam to consider.910
If you’re looking for a new dashcam you might have very specific requirements. For example, you might want 4K quality video, or a dashcam that you can easily access using your phone without needing to pull out the SD card.
The VAVA 4K UHD Dash Cam Car Dashboard Camera does both. Is this the future of dashcams, or is a Wi-Fi-connected dashboard camera more trouble than it’s worth?
To find out, we hooked one up in a family MPV and took it out on the road.
What’s in the Box With the VAVA Dashcam?
The compact VAVA-branded box sensibly compartmentalizes the dashcam kit, separating it so you only need to unpack what you need for installation.
For example, the single VAVA dashcam is in its own box; the mount and car charge adapter in another. Also in the box is a USB charging cable, plastic “crowbar” and adhesive cable clips, and the snapshot button. This is a remote control that makes it easier than ever to record what has just happened on the road.
There’s also a user guide to help you through the setup and provide tips for syncing the camera with your phone.
Sadly, the dashcam does not include an SD card. You’ll need to supply your own—the faster, the better.
Normally available for a regular price of $199.99, the VAVA 4K UHD Dash Cam can be bought for almost $50 less with this coupon code: BD5NCNR5. Simply enter this on the VAVA website checkout after adding the dashcam to your trolley. This offer ends in March, so act quickly!
It’s Also a Wi-Fi Dashcam
The unique selling point of the VAVA 4K UHD Dash Cam isn’t the resolution or the remote control, though both are certainly impressive. It’s the Wi-Fi.
The benefit this offers over other dashcams is the ease with which you can review footage. It also means there is no temptation to switch the camera’s display on—there is no display.
Instead, all interaction with the dashcam is via your phone. So, no distraction when you’re driving; the dashcam operates almost anonymously, save for a power up and power down chime. Of course, this brings fresh challenges regarding how you use the dashcam.
VAVA 4K UHD Dash Cam Specs
This is a quite impressive dashcam. As well as support for 4K UHD (at various framerates: (3840×2160 @30fps, 2560×1440 @30fps, 1920×1080 @60fps, and 1920×1080 @30fps HDR) the camera features a built-in G-sensor for automatic recording.
A 155-degree wide-angle lens captures everything in front of your car, while “super night vision” recording and WDR ensure clarity after dark.
This is all possible thanks to Sony IMX317 sensors and Ambarella H22 chipset.
Video is recorded (in MP4 format; photos as JPG) on a loop, to the capacity of the SD card. Up to 256GB storage is supported; the dashcam will inform you if the inserted card is inadequate. We used a 128GB SanDisk Extreme microSD card.
Installing the VAVA 4K UHD Dash Cam
As with any dashcam, installation is a learning curve. There’s a certain amount of messing around with interior panels and upholstery to power the device.
If you’re familiar with dashcam installation, you’ll know how to route the cable. While the VAVA manual outlines the path the cable should take, it’s not something that translates easily between car models. As such, you could end up removing a carpet to safely run the cable from the socket to the dashcam.
Whatever happens, you have the plastic crowbar to help move interior panels and furnishings. Adhesive clips are provided for you to attach the cable to the windscreen. Meanwhile, there’s a rectangle junction midway along the USB cable, also equipped with adhesive for attaching to the windscreen.
The power supply is your car’s battery, routed through the USB power cable from the car’s standard charger port. (Formerly known as the “cigarette lighter”.) VAVA’s power adaptor features a useful LED ring that indicates when it is receiving power.
Central to the installation is, of course, the mount and the camera itself. A magnet connects the two devices, while the USB cable clips to the mount; this then plugs into the camera.
The mount is angled to fit on the windscreen, with a tacky suction cup that locks securely into place. Meanwhile, a pivoting ball joint provides the dashcam’s mounting surface.
Setting Up the VAVA 4K UHD Dash Cam on Wi-Fi
To set up the dashcam you’ll need your smartphone to hand. The VAVA app is available for Android and iOS and will detect the dashcam when the ignition is on.
Set up is straightforward. You’ll need to ensure Wi-Fi is enabled on your phone, which will create an ad hoc network with the dashcam. If you use a VPN, this will need to be disabled as it will block access to the dashcam.
Once set up, your interaction with the dashcam (except for positioning and changing the SD card) is via the app.
Remotely Record an Incident
As with any dashcam, the footage is recorded on a loop and stored on the SD card. Two main folders are in use, for standard recordings and those initiated in an emergency. Swerves, impacts, and motion detection when in parking mode all initiate a recording saved as an emergency.
A third folder is created when recording is initiated from your mobile device. This should be done by a passenger rather than the driver, however, for road safety purposes.
Video is stored in two resolutions. Standard definition footage is for review purposes on your phone. This helps you find and select the appropriate file to download in 4K. This approach saves time, effort, storage on your phone, and battery.
What if you need to save something for viewing later? On standard dashcams, there’s a button to press. That’s not the case with the VAVA 4K UHD Dash Cam, however. Instead, a remote button ships with the camera. This can be mounted in the car, perhaps on an air vent, or on your keyring.
Whenever an event you want to check later occurs, press the button to save it for review.
Check VAVA 4K Dash Cam Footage on Your Mobile
The mobile app is easy to use. Simply ensure your phone has Wi-Fi enabled, then launch the app. It should automatically connect after the initial setup is complete.
In the app, you’ll find four main screens. Home summarizes recent events, shows new VAVA products, your latest travel log, and help files.
The Dash Cam screen is intended to manage the connection to the device. The Gallery screen is split into Snapshots, Loop, and Emergency. It’s here that you’ll find everything that has been recorded on the camera.
Finally, the Profile screen provides Settings access, as well as detailed storage information, a Travel Log of every journey, and a Driving Journal where journeys are added. GPS information is collated as you drive, useful for providing information to insurance companies in the event of an incident. Google Maps is used for this, complete with distance and journey time data.
Video from the camera can be downloaded to your phone for easy distribution. Alternatively, remove the microSD card from the dashcam when powered off and copy the video to your PC.
Day to Day Driving With the VAVA 4K UHD Dash Cam
Some dashcams are somewhat frustrating to use. In 2019 I reviewed the Z-Edge Z3D dual dashcam, with front and rear cameras. It was a real pain to set up and install and while the results from it are good, the annoying chime when it switches on and off tends to annoy. It also features a tricky user interface, which isn’t ideal when you’re looking for an incident on the SD card.
In short, the VAVA dashcam succeeds where the Z3D failed. But both are good cameras, as you can see from the comparison below. Here’s the Z3D image of a roundabout:
Everything is clear and bright. Here’s the view from the VAVA 4K UHD Dash Cam at the same point:
Although darker, the lines are even clearer. Notice the treetops, arrows, shadows, and the lamppost on the left. With 4K, the definition is stronger.
Do You Need the VAVA 4K UHD Dash Cam?
Bottom line: everyone should have a dashcam. It can reduce insurance premiums and is vital in proving the facts in a claim. But should everyone have the VAVA 4K UHD Dash Cam?
Well, if not, it should be at the top of your shopping list. Its inconspicuous presence in your car (surprising given the contemporary design) means this is a dashcam that you won’t feel tempted to interact with.
The Wi-Fi means that you’ll never need to touch the device while driving. Footage can be reviewed on your phone while you’re not driving, or by a passenger, and immediately saved or even shared online. For road safety purposes, this is vital.
The VAVA 4K UHD Dash Cam is unobtrusive, recording footage largely silently and anonymously. It silently does the job—you check the footage when required. If you’re looking for a dashcam, this should be your first choice (especially since we secured an exclusive coupon code: BD5NCNR5)

1971 Dodge Dart: Destiny and Determination
After a 22-year journey, Bill Hartman finally has the big-block Dart he’s always wanted.
Bill Hartman grew up immersed in all things Mopar, because his father was the service manager at Springfield Dodge in Springfield, Pennsylvania, in the 1960s and 1970s. The family always had a shiny new loaner car in the driveway so Bill was exposed to a wide variety of different Chrysler products throughout his childhood, but it was actually his brother-in-law, not his dad, who got him hooked on muscle cars. “My father was predominantly a light-footed driver,” he recalls, “so my first hammer-down ride came at age 12 in my brother in-law’s 1968 440-powered GTX. I had helped him install new motor mounts and Lakewood Traction Action bars on the GTX. We stopped by a shop in South Philly to have one of the motor mounts shaved, and I was standing behind the GTX when my brother-in-law moved it in order to let another car exit the garage. He hammered it and black-tracked away from me. That was it! After seeing the GTX rip down the street like that I was hooked!”
Following high school, Bill joined the U.S. Air Force and spent the next 24 years wrenching on KC-135 Stratotankers, C-130 Hercules and B-1B Bombers in support of our nation’s freedom. In the early 1980s, while stationed at Altus Air Force Base in the small farming community of Altus, Oklahoma, he spotted a clean 1971 Buick GS 455 on a used car lot. “While some might consider this a momentary lapse in judgment given my strict Mopar upbringing, I couldn’t walk away from the GS sitting there on the lot just begging to be bought.”
The Buick was fun, but not surprisingly, it was only a detour in Bill’s journey to find the right Chrysler product. Fast-forward to June of 1997 in Abilene, Texas, where he was stationed at Dyess Air Force Base. A small ad in the local paper for a 1971 Dodge Dart Swinger project car caught his attention. “The car was rough,” he recalls, “with just an engine core and transmission sitting in the framerails, driveshaft, and steering column in the trunk, trashed seats, boxes of parts sitting beside it, no exhaust, a ’74ish front bumper, a junk rear end in the car, and so on.”
It took a few visits to look at the car before vivid memories of another Dart from decades earlier compelled him to pull the trigger. “The inspiration that kept calling me back to look at the Dart stemmed not only from my family’s Mopar ties, but a vivid memory from my high school cruising days in the 1970s on MacDade Boulevard in Delaware County, and a revered 1970 B5 Blue Swinger that was upgraded from its former 340 to become a 440 big-block Dart. Those words spoke loudly in terms of street credit in those days, and hearing all the chatter about it has stuck with me to this day.”
The first thing Bill and his wife, Diane, did after getting the Dart home was evict a family of rats living inside it. They then gutted the interior to get rid of the odor the unwanted rodents left behind, and began accumulating parts for the planned resurrection. While deployed to Maxwell Air Force Base in Alabama in 2000, Bill stumbled across a 1971 Dodge Demon in a salvage yard. “It was literally just the shell and framerails sitting on the ground with only one removable aspect remaining — the perfectly straight front bumper and its mounts that I needed!” He also needed a Dodge emblem for the deck lid, which wasn’t being reproduced at the time, and managed to find that at a salvage yard in Roswell, New Mexico, while there doing some certification at the Bombardier Flight Test Center. He later bought an entire front grille assembly from an internet auction site. “The parts were in Dwight, Kansas, and ironically, at the time of purchase, we had what was to be our final military assignment in hand and were preparing to relocate from Abilene to Wichita, Kansas, so rather than ship the fragile grille and risk breakage, the seller was kind enough to hold on to it for a few months until we moved there, and I could make the 120-mile trek north to fetch the grille.”
In 2003, the still-disassembled car and growing parts collection went with them to that new assignment at McConnell Air Force Base in Wichita. Three years later Bill retired from the Air Force and spent the next several years at GE Engine Services supervising overhaul of CFM-56 and CF-34 TurboFan Jet Engines and at Bombardier’s Flight Test Center as a project engineer, helping facilitate certification tests on newly designed Bombardier aircraft.
Some 10 years after buying the Dart, Bill finally had the time to work on it in earnest. First, the car went to Autobody Connection in Rose Hill, Kansas, where Vern Hammond’s team “transformed its outer appearance from barn find to barn stormer.” Though originally B5 blue, the Dart was painted black early on. Bill knew he wanted to return it to blue, but was indecisive regarding the exact shade. After much debate, he opted for 2003 PT Cruiser Electric Blue Pearl for the body and 2002 PT Cruiser Bright White for the tail stripe. Besides doing a masterful job with the body and paintwork, Autobody Connection also did the work needed to install a full complement of Auto Meter gauges in the dash and an RCI 15-gallon fuel cell.
After getting the car back from Autobody Connection, Bill spent the next four years putting it all back together with mostly stock parts, and in September 2011 he started the newly rebuilt 440 for the first time. It roared to life and put an ear-to-ear grin on Bill’s face, but the joy was short-lived as he discovered the 727 automatic, which had come with the car and was represented to be in excellent working condition, was in fact fried inside. After he and his wife pushed the Dart back into their garage, he removed the transmission and turned it over to friend Mark Wise, who expertly rebuilt it.
Following reinstallation of the 727, the Hartmans enjoyed their reborn Dart very much, driving it to many shows and cruises in the Wichita area. The following year, Bill noticed the engine wasn’t quite as peppy as it used to be and traced the problem to some worn lobes on its Mopar Performance cam. “With problems come opportunities to upgrade,” he reasons, “so a Comp Cams Retrofit Hydraulic Roller Cam, Comp Roller Rockers, and Howard Hydraulic Rollers were installed in place of the stock parts.”
In 2016, Bill made another significant upgrade to his engine’s performance. “I had been closely following Andy Finkbeiner’s finely detailed dyno assessments sorting out a new line of Trick Flow Specialties Aluminum Cylinder Heads at his business, AR Engineering. After concluding these are a great set of heads, Santa, in the form of my wife, Diane, was gracious enough to drop a pair of the Trick Flow Specialties PowerPort 240 heads down the chimney for Christmas, and the Dart’s long-standing breathing problems were eviscerated once and for all. Trick Flow’s new line of aluminum cylinder heads were designed specifically for big-block Mopar’s and hands down were indeed a great power adder!”
With the engine running great and making the level of power he wanted, Bill turned his attention to the car’s brakes. In 2018, he replaced the OEM setup using a Wilwood disc brake conversion kit that put four-piston calipers and 11-inch steel rotors on all four corners. Never one to sit still for long, the next project on his radar screen is installation of a six-point rollbar and RCI five-point harness. Both of these safety upgrades will be done in preparation for some much-anticipated drag racing.
The Hartman’s 22-year odyssey with their Dart Swinger has had many challenges, but the hard work and determination has paid off. The car is a wonderful reminder of Bill’s childhood growing up surrounded by Chryslers, courtesy of his father’s job at Springfield Dodge, and his teenage years hanging with all of his car buddies. They continue driving it to local shows and cruises, and get a great deal of enjoyment from sharing the car with others. “With Darts having sported fairly high production numbers in the early 1970s, the car starts a lot of conversations at car shows with people whose parents had Darts, or it was their first car, and those who had 340 Darts, or Demons, etc. Many key in on the Swinger emblems and the trademark sunflower accenting the “i” and how well that fit the ’70s era. The Dart is a trip to drive and gets its fair share of attention with lots of waves, thumbs up, picture grabs, and gas station conversations.”
