Here is something my art teacher taught me, ABOUT LAYERING COLOURED PENCILS

For red, highlight in white, do shadows in brown

for pink, highlight in white, do shadoes in red or purple

for red-orange, highlight in yellow or white, do shadows in red or brown

for orange, highlight in yellow or white, do shadows in red or brown

for yellow-orange, highlight in yellow or white, do shadows in orange or light brown

for yellow, highlight in white, do shadows in light brown

for yellow-green, highlight in yellow or white, do shadows in green

for green, do highlights in yellow or white, do shadows in dark blue or dark green

for light green, do highlights in yellow or white, do shadows in green

for dark green, do highlights in yellow or white, do shadows in dark blue

for blue-green, do highlights in white, do shadows in dark blue

for blue, do highlights in white, do dhadows in dark blue
