neuvillette is so luna coded if you know what i mean
#when i made captain ignacio j luna i basically made up a sad old man (affectionate) loosely based on zhongli but given xisuma's position#and the cultural & socioeconomic background of wealthy/educated filipinos in the spanish colonial era#and uh. ngl neuvillette is kind of like zhongli a little to the left. its the refined gentleman who is also old and sad kinda vibe.#but neuvillette and luna are both trapped in systems they should have authority over and are trying their best#+ apologise a lot + fairly introverted & possibly intimidating but actually nice + disconnected from humanity#though neuvillette is not human while luna is almost painfully so (at least in my mind)#uh. the amount of x readers neuvillette is getting is mildly reassuring bc luna canonically gets treated like that by some of the gods.lmao#perpetua genshin au is gonna be fun bc some will fit really well while others are going to be gunning for the same character#neuvillette luna is an obvious choice (gestures) and avery could maybe do aether#childe phobos and rosaria riza work well enough but damien and cosmo are gonna have to fight over who gets to be scara

As the daughter of a history major…
… Where the hell are so many americans on tumblr going to school???
I just saw a post about how ‘it’s taught in america that the pilgrims were Good and fleeing religious intolerance but they were actually Bad’ which first off, you cannot make those distinctions bc freaking everyone was up to kill anyone who didn’t agree in those days, but also… People claiming to be american claiming that they were definitely taught exactly that??
Maybe… If you never took a history class past elementary school, I guess. Or maybe you were in Florida (oh, gods, get my mother started on people killing each other in Florida).
Bc, resident American here, albeit one in Massachusetts, and… No. We’re not taught that. You get a romanticised version in early grades maybe, but the higher you go, you get taught that the most Puritans had different religious beliefs than the standard in England, so they took the opportunity to ship off to the colonies. There’s no victimisation, it’s just straight facts. And that usually, that was the category of people shipped off to the colonies—criminals, religious differences, poor people… Like no one in their right mind wanted to go off into the ‘wilderness.’ They did it bc they hated being where they were, and England was all too happy to get rid of them. Hell, they were also completely unprepared and many of them died on the way over. Like that shot went super bad for so many reasons.
I’m not going to claim I remember every detail I was taught, and I had a bit of a deeper knowledge bc my mother is, again, a history major w/ an interest in American history bc it is whacky), and I do remember the ‘founding’ being a little simplified, but I also distinctly remember going into higher grades and having teachers outright explain ‘what you were told as kids was a very simplified version, let’s talk about it in more detail.’ We weren’t taught that there were ‘good’ or ‘bad’ guys, we were taught that these people had a difference in belief and that for that reason, they ended up shipped off to the colonies. We talked about the conflicts, the damage, the ugly bits.
I think people claiming to have been taught a sanitised version either didn’t take many history classes, didn’t pay attention, or don’t remember much of what they were taught (which no judgement here, I barely remember). Or maybe they’re just trying to sound Cool on the internet? I can’t know. But I remain baffled by certain myths about the us that alleged Americans come out of the woodwork to claim are true when… Your experiences are not universal???
Like I’m happy to criticise the education system, bc excuse me while I cry about not being able to hold a conversation in Spanish, but like. Unless you were in a very particular environment (I went to public school, btw)… No, you weren’t taught that shit. There’s parts missing, sure, but they did not, at least not beyond elementary, try to claim the ‘Pilgrims’ were blameless. I remember being taught that life was harsh and short, and people bitter and stubborn. I don’t doubt that the words ‘fleeing religious intolerance’ might’ve been used, bc technically, yes, they were. But I am also intolerant of trolls, and mosquitos. That’s a statement, it has no bearing on what kind of people either group was.
#Firebird Randomness#I find it fascinating how this site veers between shitting on England and holding it up and some noble paragon#like I'm sorry you wanna shit on the Puritans like go ahead but don't make out like they were any worse than any other religious sect#esp in England at that time#or hell Europe you wanna talk about the Spanish conquests of the Americas??#but I literally just had an exCUSE me??? reaction to that post#like our education system is BAD I wish I could speak another language properly for one#terrible at dealing w/ learning disabilities#and maybe some stuff requires a little effort#but DEF by high school my history teachers made no secret about the effects of colonisation#or the extremism of the puritan beliefs#this is one of those prove you've never been to the us w/out saying it moments#like obvi history is taught differently#per a British friend the US actually disappears from English teaching after the Puritans leave until the revolution#additionally we also get taught that many of them still considered themselves British#like they weren't 'trying to find a new world' they just hated everyone else as much as everyone hated them#but many of them still thought they were 'British' that didn't change until later#but serious geebus people here will just take anything at face value#history is bloody and colonisation and conquest may have most famously started in Europe#but that also means that you can't wash your hands of it and say 'it was them they were bad'#like I'm digressing here I'm just so baffled

i can't sleep but I just realized
it's my favorite time of the year to be on twitter because ✨sele time✨
in which every comunitat autònoma complains about their exams being the most ridiculous and difficult shit to ever exist PLUS people losing it about an answer in the Catalan or Spanish exam because oh boy do they get creative with those
also it's the last sele of the old educational system ?????? (in Catalonia)
so many things happening today
#sele or paus: university entry exams#they are diferent for each comunitat autònoma (which people complain about sometimes)#there's a general fase with the truncal subjects thats worth 40%#then your batx grades are worth the other 60%#batx are the last two years of high school here (and are not mandatory)#then you can get up to 4 extra points in the specific fase (where you may take specialized subjects)#depending on the degree you are being considered for your grade for an exam will be worth 0 0.1 or 0.2#Spanish educational system 101

me when i’ve collectively attempted to learn 48 languages (and counting) and so i get this constantly except i know literally nothing else but a word or two in those languages cuz the brain isn’t meant to hold all that information so for me it’s more like
Every single person studying a language when they recognize the most basic word of the language in a text or a video
#the daily struggles of an incompetent polyglot#years of trying and 48 languages later#including asl morse code written cyphers and fictional languages#and i’m still only fluent in one.#one language. english.#i’m semi conversationally fluent in uh like#french spanish portuguese (ish) norwegian swedish icelandic (another stretch) german and uh kinda greek? ish??#but still no fluency in anything else#and i’ve tried believe me#10+ years of spanish education#except american education system#so

Last, but not least!
Group 6: Boosting Student Motivation - Bola & Marie
Bola and Marie wrapped up our student-led presentations with a bang! Their presentation covered some tools to make our classrooms more engaging that made educational use of popular technology applications. From Duolingo to Minecraft, they expertly showed us how to make applications work for us in the education system, which again aligns with the Five Pillars of Online Pedagogy, which calls upon us to allow students to develop mastery of tools and use what they know to demonstrate learning.
I often do not like breakout rooms. Forced discussions often end up with me doing most of the work, usually as the only one with their video and audio on. It is more isolating than collaborating. However, the breakout room I was in was likely the most helpful group I have had yet. We were tasked with discussing Duolingo, and I expressed that my knowledge extended only so far as my kids' obsession with maintaining their streak. This opened the dialogue for others to share that they did not use it, and they asked questions about my children. I shared that it is motivating; they like to compete, and most of our family fights are over, one or more needing to “Save my Streak!!!!” precisely at bedtime. A classmate asked if I had noticed an improvement in oral language acquisition, and I shared a story with them. My wife has taken our kids to her school, where someone who speaks Spanish would be. She thought they could try out their knowledge, and while they were great at their “canned” phrases, moving beyond the common conversational phrases was unsuccessful. The learning extended as far as knowledge about words and memorized phrases. A classmate shared that his friend was obsessed with the platform and had a streak 4 times the length the streak my kids had, and said he also had limited ability in open dialogue format. Fun fact: when I shared this with my teenage son, he vehemently denied it and said he could speak fluently to anyone. I laughed. Not my best parenting moment, but honestly, his viewpoint is inaccurate.
We took our discussion back to the larger class, and we all echoed the same sentiment. These tools are great as additional educational components but cannot replace learning. They are great for precisely the topic of this presentation - Boosting Student Motivation. They cannot take the place of education.

[ID: Image 1: A shutterstock image of a priest in a confessional, looking shocked.
Image 2: tags that say: “# thinking abt how i was reading how they just kinda stopped doing phonics in american gradeschool at some point # smiling serenely.” End ID]
learning that apparently several hundred people have been pronouncing 'miette' as 'mighty' has actively worsened my day
#ID#yeah no I was shook too but like. more just in a way of oh shit people don’t know this is crumb in french it’s mi ette it’s very cute#and knowing it’s french you pronounce the miette quotes in a french accent and it’s funny#the people must be told. not wow OP knows nothing abt anything and every american is dumb let’s lambast our whole education system for this#this post’s notes are nearly all discourse about the history and pros/cons of phonics???#with no mention on most threads of how english pronunciation is really variable and inconsistent#so what the hell does phonics have to do with it. the same letter combinations can be pronounced very differently based on the word’s origin#if miette was a spanish word it could be mi-é-té#ear and earn have the same vowel letters but different vowel sounds#etc. etc. a million examples of this#this did not have to turn into the bullshit into which it has turned
