The headquarters of the new ABC Museum of Drawing and Illustration has a story. Located across the street from Amaniel 29-31, accessible in the Conde Duque barracks, in a building that once, 1900, served to house the first Mahou brewery in the capital of Spain. Its creator was José López Salaberry, an architect intensively and extensively linked to the development of new urbanism Madrid in the early years of the twentieth century. Salaberry was responsible for the transfer of the Cibeles to where they are today, was also one of the creators of the Gran Vía, and the creator of the Casino building and the facade of the building that ABC and occupied in Black and White decades in Serrano Street.
To adapt this unique space to the needs of the new arts center, the ABC Collection Foundation has had the architects Aranguren & Gallegos who have developed a rehabilitation project that not only remodel the space for its new use, but also enriches the urban environment, giving the city an architectural proposal respectful but innovative. Thus, the ABC Museum integrates well into the bowels of the historic city, in direct relation to the neighborhood so that from the beginning clearly shows next to society to convey the most effective all values ​​and treasures of .
The new museum has an area of ​​over 3,000 m2 for the development of its activities on six floors, two of them underground. It has two large exhibition halls, multifunctional spaces, a plant for management jobs, a tank force, a restoration laboratory, warehouse, café and shop. In short, everything you need to develop a center of its kind, following the most innovative trends in architecture, art and museum, which has dominated the very best technical conditions of storage and display for parts that are located there and has sought greater flexibility and use of space dedicated to the many activities.
