OMG SUCCESS STORY
in my past year of knowing about the law, this is definitely the big thing that cleared all my doubts about it FOR SURE. ok so my family lives in a cramped apartment, right? bad vibes all around, there’s just so much negativity because we literally have no space between us.
so on my void list i scripted that we live in this very specific house and my grandma had her own place to herself. i’ve been affirming a little (not even rant affirming i literally only did it like twice then forgot about it) that we live in this specific house because i’m just so tired of living in this apartment and i need more space. so yesterday, my dad came in the room looking somber and told me we’re going to move into a house soon because my grandma was having trouble with our landlord so we gotta leave. i was so mfking shocked dude, he was surprised i wasn’t upset but HOW COULD I BE???? of course it’s not in the exact circumstances i wanted because the house i had in mind was already sold and is definitely out of our budget but i don’t even care about that anymore.
i’m so fucking happy you don’t even know this literally a BIG step to living my dream life. this success story might not seem like much but this is so big for me like not even a week ago i was so down in the dumps and almost offed myself but look at me now.
ofc grandma having some shit with the landlord is being put out on her record (along with some other stuff from past rentals) so it’ll be a little hard finding somewhere but i already affirmed that we apply and get accepted to live in a very nice house. 🧘🏽‍♀️
This is amazing!!!! You deserve a lovely home to live in. 💗💗💗 Proud of you 🥹

GIVING CREDIT
Saluting the behind the scenes talent making movie magic
Rob Youngson is a unit stills photographer for film and television. He's captured images for Belfast, A Haunting in Venice, The Great Escaper, Heanstopper St and Atlanta S3. He also shoots stills for posters. 'An effective still image has to communicate a lot in a single moment. An onlooker should know the tone, the genre and who stars in the production within a few seconds. It should leave them with a question: what happens? The answer to which is always, to go and see the film. It's the visual equivalent of a hook in pop music.'
How would you describe your job in simple terms?
I work with the cast and crew to capture striking still images during filming - without being a distraction or affecting the schedule.
I work with the publicist to ensure I get the images needed to publicise the film. I also capture behind-the-scenes images, which highlight the collaborative process and anything unique about the production. I may work with the props department to take period-accurate portraits for set dressing.
I've also consulted actors on how to use old-fashioned prop cameras convincingly.
How did you get into set photography?
I trained and worked as a theatre lighting designer while photographing bands on the side. Then I discovered that this job existed through an article in Nikon Owner magazine.
It was an interview with Kimberley French (Brokeback Mountain, The Revenant). I knew straight away I had to do this. So I went to work at one of the rental companies that hires cameras and lenses to productions.
I cleaned the kit, loaded the trucks and got to know people in the industry. used any leave to work on short films and then went freelance. Early on, I assisted an established unit stills photographer on some studio shoots. He then recommended me for a job he couldn't take and that put my work in front of the right people to get hired again.
What's the biggest misconception about your job?
That still images are screen grabs from the film. This is a widespread misconception, even within the industry. It doesn't work for two reasons. The technical reason is that the common shooting frame rate of 24fps doesn't freeze motion enough for those screen grabs to be printed at billboard size.
The second and most important reason is artistic; what works well for a moving image doesn't necessarily make a strong still photograph. Another misconception is that actors are difficult to work with. They are usually lovely. Actors have to step into a vulnerable place while surrounded by noise and crew and kit. They have to keep going to that place again and again for different camera angles. Part of what makes a good unit stills photographer is respect for the acting process. Sometimes my job is knowing when to step away and allow the actors space to work.
What's been the most memorable moment on a film set?
Watching Judi Dench and Kenneth Branagh make each other laugh on day one of shooting Belfast. We had all been in lockdown for so long, it felt like a new beginning. It felt like photographing love and hope and friendship.
What's the worst thing about your job?
Missing time with my family because I'm working away. Sometimes standing in a field on a night shoot, in February, in the snow, I start to question it. Those moments can feel tough. But a lot of the crew are in that same situation with you. Working on good scripts with nice people makes the time away from home, the long hours and driving, a lot easier.
What's the best thing about your job?
Knowing that my images help stories to find an audience. Stories that take years of hard work and hundreds of people to get told. On set, the best thing is being witness to incredible acting, from both legends and up-and-coming talent. Seeing what the Heartstopper cast are doing for LGBTQA* representation right now is special. I'm also currently working with two incredible young actors. I am so excited for more people to discover their storytelling potential.
If someone wants to do your job, what's the best route in?
Get on to set any way you can, in any role. Take photos across all genres of photography. Welcome honest feedback on your work. Don't sweat the kit you haven't got. You'll get hired for your eye and how well you get on with people, not what's in your bag. The necessity to work on low/no-budget jobs early in your career is a barrier to many, especially as a lot of opportunities centre around expensive cities. Screenskills and BAFTA have resources for helping bridge that gap - seek those out. Go and see as much art and as many films as you can.
Remember… (most memorable moment on a film set) Watching Judi Dench and Kenneth Branagh make each other laugh on day one of shooting Belfast. We had all been in lockdown for so long, it felt like a new beginning. It felt like photographing love and hope and friendship. — Rob Youngson

Note
estou jogando no seu save e não sei mais o que fazer, os itens colocados com o tool somem todos e não recebi nenhum erro de script ou algo parecido que dê o motivo. Estava jogando sem problemas e estou quase no fim do verão no jogo.
Hi there, I'm sorry you're having some trouble with TOOL'd objects in the game! Are you playing or have edited a rental lot recently? If so, this tip I provided in my original post and read me file may help fix this:
To avoid the surrounding neighborhood deco from disappearing (TOOL’d in items) edit only a single rental unit at a time in build mode, rather than the whole lot. Gameplay on lots should not affect this so you can still visit your neighbors!
If you have not saved your game yet you can close without saving and the items will come back to their original spaces. Unfortunately rental lots in the game changed a lot about TOOL items, but that is the way around it. I hope this helps!

The Clicking of the Chain (The Silence of the Lambs Parody) (#1 of 2)
for kloktober day 11: horror movie crossover
It's a parody, not a crossover, and I used a lot of the original script for this sequence to make sure it 'accomplishes' similar things for the main plot. I've always wanted to do this sort of thing... I like doing kloktober pieces that are for me more than the audience, but I hope you enjoy this retelling of one of the most quoted scenes in The Silence of the Lambs featuring Charles Offdensen and Magnus Hammersmith.
tws: body fluids, sexual harassment
At the bottom of the stairs was a left turn into a dingy cream-colored space kin to a car rental window at a crusty regional airport. A bulletin board held seven year-old thank you cards and a sign-in sheet for personal visitors. From a slim staff door came a short man in his sixties in an Orioles ball cap and white coveralls and an extended hand.
“Hi, I’m Mashed Potato Johnson. He told you, don’t get near the bars?” Damien Cornickleson’s footsteps were still volleying down the stairwell.
“Charles Offdensen.” He took the handshake with a bit of a dip. ”Yes, he did.”
“Okay. Past the others, he’s in the last cell. Stay to the middle, now. I put out a chair for you.” He pointed through the door to the gray wall of the corridor, where there was a security camera mounted to the wall. “I’m watching. You’ll do fine.”
His even steps echoed down the dim corridor, lined on one side with cameras and the other with iron bars holding back men of all sorts of shapes and sizes and muttering. Right before he’d reached the end of the hall, a green, black, and white blur threw itself against the bars, bearing wet, darkly streaked, yellow teeth. The white cast on his face rubbed off on the iron, and his crudely-colored green mane of matted frizz was trapped in his grip on the lock.
“Cocaine!”
Charles flinched hard enough to set his glasses off-kilter, but he only stalled on a single step before he was standing squarely in front of Magnus Hammersmith behind bars.
His cell was kept more lit, and had the addition of nylon netting on the exterior side of the bars. The inside of Magnus’ cell was covered in swaths of butcher paper decorated with black and white modern art patterns of various scales, with or without interlocking phantograms of all manners of polygons.
Charles cleared his throat and lowered the briefcase in his hands. “Mr. Hammersmith, my name is Charles Offdensen. May I speak with you?”
Magnus looked up from his magazine, eyes shining behind the tight waves of his hair. His ankles stretched at least a foot past the hem of his hospital pajamas and his skin, historically photographed to be a warm medium tone, was bleached and dusty from the windowless basement floor. Despite the menacing angles of his face, his voice was indignant, not commanding.
“And good morning to you, too,” he sneered, then went back to his reading.
Charles took another step forward.
“Magnus, we’re having a hard time with a case, and we believe you might have some guiding information. Do you mind answering a short questionnaire?”
“ ‘We’ being the Behavioral Science Unit at Quantico… But what’s a suit like you doing there? Huh? Fraud investigation wasn’t the thrill you expected?” He chuckled at his own joke and tossed the magazine on the floor with a resonant slap. “You’re one of Roy Cornickleson’s, I expect.”
“I am, yes.”
“Show me.”
Charles whipped his wallet out of his pocket and opened it to his IDs, holding them out in front of them.
“Closer, Charles. I have two eyes, but only one of them works.”
Charles clenched his teeth so he wouldn’t make a face and inched closer each time, but didn’t dare lean.
“Expires in a week. You’re not real FBI yet, are you?”
“I’m still in training at the Academy.” Charles pushed his glasses back up to his nose and squared his feet.
“Old Roy’s showing me off to a trainee? Well-”
“We’re talking about investigation, Magnus. You can decide for yourself if I’m qualified.”
“Smart, Officer Offdensen. Sit down.”
The rusted hinges of the chair bent when he sat down. If he were any heavier, he’d have been tipped into the floor. Magnus mirrored him and sat back down on his cot.
“Now, what did Rockzo say to you? Don’t look stupid– Dr. Rockzo, the Rock n’ Roll Clown in the next cell. He lunged at you. What did he say?”
“He said, uh, ‘cocaine’.”
“Of course he did. He does cocaine. Or did. Whatever. But you… you don’t have that kind of money, do you? You brought your best briefcase to see me today, didn’t you?”
Charles pulled at his tie before he remembered to stop himself. “Sure.”
“It’s better than your shoes, but not great. Not the cocaine type.”
“Not now, no.” Just like that, Magnus was out of things to say, and started to bounce his leg. The movement of his subway-sized foot was comical… if he had a pair of spoons in his hand, they’d click together nicely. The nervous bouncing on such a long, flimsy frame made him look like a dancing toy.
“Did you do those drawings?”
“Yes. Do you care much for contemporary art?”
“I’m not familiar… they allow you to keep a compass?” One of the works was a system of interlocking circles, some of them chained together in links, and others that looked like they were out of a spirograph.
“No. The scratching of the pen is what I have instead of a tune. Can’t let me get a hold on wood or string, can they?”
Charles looked down as if bowing his head in church before taking out a questionnaire from his briefcase. He held his chest higher.
“Magnus, if you’d please…”
“I’ve had my fair share of shrinks and investigators, Offdensen. You’ve been courteous, you’ve established trust and complimented my art, but this segue into your little survey is a bunch of bullshit. It’s boring, it’s stupid, and that’s not going to cut it.”
“I’m asking you to look at it. Either you will or you won’t.”
Magnus snorted and stretched his legs out in front of him, ankles crossed. “Roy Cornickleson must be strapped for time hunting down the ‘Metal Masked Assassin’ if he needs help from the likes of amateurs like you. Did he send you here to ask me about him?”
“No, I-”
“How many people has he used up so far, that Assassin?”
“Five, so far.”
“Flayed?”
“Partially, but that’s an active case, and I’m not involved, s–”
“Do you know why he’s called the Metal Masked Assassin? The newspapers don’t say.”
“I’ll tell you if you look over this form.” Charles passed it into a metal hatch which opened on Magnus’ side when the door to the outside was closed. Once Magnus picked it up, Charles began…
“It, uh, started as a joke, about wearing their faces, like that one movie…”
“And you can’t remember the title.”
“No, I can’t.”
“Right.” Magnus set the questionnaire on the cot beside him. “Show me what you have to offer. Why do you think he takes their skins, Officer Offdensen?”
“Uh, well, most serial killers take a trophy, sometimes for excitement or-”
“I didn’t.”
“You ate them.”
“So it would seem.” He smirked and picked the forms back up, only to begin tearing them in a frenzy that exploded out of nowhere but the air around them. As he struggled, his grunts and the struggling, shearing sounds of ripping copy paper volleyed in the stony ward.
“You think you’re so clever, so ambitious, don’t you Chuck? You’re a fraud dressed like a bourgeois bagman. Good nutrition has given you well-fleshed features, but you’re not more than one generation from salty white trash, are you? That New England accent you prune so delicately to hide all the junkiness of Maine fishmarkets– What was your father, huh? Did you have one, or did he roll from his bed into the sea like every other frozen drunk on his lobster boat? I bet the other boys without fathers found you just fine in locker rooms, with wound, wet towels and cracked lips, while all you could think about was a less physical path of being, of being at all… and power. Powerful as the F.B.I…”
“You see a lot, but are you strong enough to look at yourself? Write it on the piece of paper.”
“And you’d love it, wouldn’t you?”
“If you weren’t a coward.”
“You think you’re tough one, aren’t you?”
“... I decline to comment.”
“Oh, but you’d hate if I thought you were anything but superior! It’d break you to little fucking pieces. Don’t worry, Charles. If you hold your head high enough, everyone will assume you’re tall someday soon.”
“And the questions?”
Magnus turned his back. Charles leaned forward in his seat and slammed the door of the meal hatch open and shut again. Magnus was up and snarling at the bars in a flash.
“A census taker once tried to test me, Charles. I ate his liver with some fava beans and a nice chianti. I hope a degree from Harvard will help you piece together that fucking around making noise in a ward of prisioners and psychos won’t give you a bigger dick! Go back to school. The boys miss you!”
He retreated from the bars to stand in front of one of his works, and Charles took his invitation to leave.
“Ooh, hoo, hoo, hoo!… Dr. Rockzo don’t feel so good. Ohh, it hurts, it’s all infected, shit all over this mess, ooh-hoo! K-k-k-lookit-”
When Charles paused at the cry, he took half a load of semen into his face from Rockzo’s hand. While he howled, Magnus bellowed, “You stupid fucking clown!” Charles fumbled in his pockets for a frayed pink tissue and tried not to let the clown’s cum anywhere closer to his eyes and mouth. Just when he’d passed Dr. Rockzo’s cell and saw the light streaming in from the room he was in before, away from the din rising up in the corridor, he heard Magnus shouting above them all.
“Officer Offdensen!”
With burning eyes and sharp features as contorted and pinched as the acid-trip Devil that leads partygoers to slit their wrists or jump out of bedroom windows, Magnus stood again at the bars of his cell. Charles hurried himself back over, although he couldn’t see further than his armspan while he carefully wiped the body fluids off the lens of his glasses.
The veins in Magnus neck were thick as snakes. “Look, I didn’t want that for you. Excretions are disgusting to me, and bad manners-”
“Then do the survey for me.”
“No, but I’ll do you one better. Advancement. Go to Split City, check on an old bandmate of mine, Ravenwood. Just like you think it’s spelled. Now leave. I don’t think Dr. Rockzo could manage again so soon, even if he is crazy. Don’t wait around to see– Go!”

We're On Our Way
Here's my entry for this week's Flash Fiction Friday from @flashfictionfridayofficial
Tumblr media
I swear, I didn't intend for it to happen this way.
I was just going out for a quick trip. I rented a ship to Flip over to see an interesting stellar anomaly in person. I wanted to take a few photos and videos to edit together into a fun little presentation and post for my friends to see.
When I got there, I set up my cameras, started recording and worked on writing a script for a narration I would do once I got back home.
About an hour into the recording, the ship reported an overspeed error on the Flip Drive. I padded over to the warning screen, and in the time it took me to read the error, the entire console lit up red. There were errors I had never seen before, things that seemed like they were impossible. The whole ship was going to destroy itself before I even knew what was wrong.
Remembering the training I had to take before they'd let me rent the ship, I quickly donned the emergency pressure suit that came in the rental. It smelled of new rubber and was bright yellow with EMERGENCY RESCUE written down the sides. There was a flashing beacon on the helmet. It was one size fits most, and I was swimming inside it. I felt ridiculous, but the stupid thing saved my life.
As it was overloading, the ship flashed a message on the main console:
EVACUATE NOW. RESCUE BEACON DEPLOYED. YOU'RE NOT ALONE. HELP WILL COME.
Not believing, but trusting the ship, I ran for the airlock. I didn't even cycle it, I just blew both doors and the rush of air leaving the stricken ship blew me into space.
Alone.
I watched as the Flip drive failed. As I was drifting away from the ship, it started to glow a hazy blue that hurt to look at it. Then, the front folded into the back, the back folded into the front, the bottom folded into the top, and the ship folded...away.
In less time than it took to take a sip of water, the ship, my only way home, was gone.
I'm not sure how long I drifted.
The suit had food - which was terrible, water - which tasted metallic, and waste processing facilities - which were humiliating. But, I was alive.
I spent the time staring at the anomaly I came to visit. It really was beautiful, and I got a front row seat to watch it. Unobstructed by the ship cameras, I took in the view with my own eyes. I was lost in the beauty.
Some time later, I felt a presence. Looking to my left, a ship had Flipped into view. It was red with a large white stripe, flashing lights along the top and had RESCUE painted in glowing letters next to the windows. Before I knew it, people had jetted out of the ship and over to me. They clipped a line to me and reeled me back into their ship.
"This never happens" they said. "We're so sorry you had to be subjected to this" they said. "Thank goodness the ship Flipped a rescue beacon to us" they said.
I was numb to all of their apologies. I was still lost in thought about the anomaly.
I was happy to be rescued, of course, but I couldn't shake the feeling I felt when it was just me, staring at it's infinite beauty.
Three months later, I had rented another ship, and came back.
This time, I'd mount the cameras outside of the ship, and try and show my friends back home the feeling.

Doing An Early 2000's Double-Feature...
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
Someone brought up Red Eye on twitter, so I decided to check it out. This would have been a winner in the late Blockbuster rental years. Also, it had weird electricity between the leads, where it didn't go in a romantic direction, but could have if written differently.
Instead, it went with the antagonist and protag energy...Basically the ancestor of all those dark fic romances that are out now that are red flaggy shitty controlling men being objectified, and totally for the fictional space ONLY. Seriously... Cillian and Rachel, need to do something else together again. Now, I'm watching Cellular, which again... great early 2000's hot guy chemistry energy redirected into this tense one-location... (for the person needing rescuing) thriller. And Chris and Kim...
Again, the chemistry. Both of these relied on a good tight basic popcorn thriller script and great energy from the leads and all just worked. So, yeah...a good thematic double-feature with movies they just don't make anymore, because the climate has changed so much. PAY THESE PEOPLE WHAT THEY ARE WORTH... But until then, boot leg these when the lean entertainment times come. Man, seriously both aged well, and the nostalgia...whew.
They genuinely don't make movies like this anymore. Low to mid-budget, tight script, great thriller.

How does renting a unique film location enhance storytelling and audience engagement?
Renting a unique film location significantly enhances storytelling by providing a distinct backdrop that adds authenticity and depth to a narrative. A carefully selected location can set the tone of a film, evoke emotions, and even become a character in its own right. Whether it's an industrial warehouse, a historical site, or an avant-garde venue, the environment helps convey the story's mood, culture, or period, enriching the viewer's experience. Film location rentals allow filmmakers to choose locations that align perfectly with the script, helping to immerse the audience in the world being created.
For corporate event planner in Los Angeles, incorporating unique film location rentals into a promotional or branding event can provide a similar effect. Renting an iconic or unconventional venue for a corporate event adds an element of prestige and excitement, helping to captivate guests and reinforce the brand's identity. The right location creates a lasting impression, whether it's a glamorous venue for a product launch or a themed space for a team-building event.

“The White Vault” Season 7 Premieres & “That Scares Me Too” Debuts
Tumblr media
These two creepy podcasts are billed as Fool & Scholar’s Spook-tacular Podcasts. Normally, I scoff at such hyperbole, but after listening to a previous season of The White Vault and the trailer for That Scares Me Too! I’m sufficiently scared to hide under my weighted blanket until I get the signal that it’s safe to come out.
At the end of the recent trailer of The White Vault, host K.A. Statz tells her listeners, “The White Vault: Goshawk approaches as the cold winds blow in, and we hope you see us soon.” Then after a pause that sent a chill down my old, arthritic spine, Statz whispers, “Don’t worry. We see you, too.”
Mommy.
I recently wrote and reviewed two iHeart “scary” podcasts, Rattled & Shook and Radio Rental. Those shows represent the genre reasonably well and are enjoyable, if not predictable. But they demonstrate the disparity in artistry, creative design, imagination, and world building between independent shows like The White Vault, Dark Dice, and Don’t Mind (all from Fool & Scholar) and iHeart, Spotify or Wondery shows in the same genre.
The White Vault begins its seventh season on October 15th. Since there are more podcasts than conspiracy theories, I had never heard of the show until it was recommended by Shreya Sharma, who I consider a sound sommelier.
Here’s the show’s marketing pitch: “Explore the far reaches of the world’s horrors. Follow the collected records of a repair team sent to a remote arctic outpost and unravel what lies waiting in the ice below.”
Just to make it creepier, the show’s website has large text in all caps that reads, “TRAVEL NOT ADVISED.”
I listened to the last season and was hooked. The show is exquisitely produced. The lushness of the sound, the skillfully executed narrative, and the intensity of the actors places listeners in Iceland. I listened to the show in 80-degree weather while walking and perspiring and still, the howling wind and shivering sounds from the actors made me cold.
I can tell you that you can jump in anytime on this show. My plan is to revisit the first five seasons, but only when people are around and it’s daylight.
The White Vault is produced by Fool & Scholar Productions, which was founded as a hobby production duo by K. A. Statz and Travis Vengroff in 2015.
By 2019, Fool & Scholar Productions was a registered company with multiple podcast productions, awards, and a substantial following. Starting in the realm of science fiction, they have gone on to create shows in the horror, drama, TTRPG, and family-oriented spaces.
Tumblr media
Kaitlin Statz began writing audio drama scripts in 2015 while completing her Master’s program at the University of Oxford. Within the year, her first stories hit headphones as Liberty: Critical Research and Liberty: Tales from the Tower.
By 2017, with several audio seasons completed, she launched The White Vault under the same Fool & Scholar Productions banner. Now, with even more shows, she works full-time creating audio stories. She lives in Bavaria with her husband and their rescue dog, Eezo.
Travis Vengroff is the award-winning sound designer, editor, and producer of The White Vault podcast and the other half of Fool & Scholar Productions. His search for authentic sound has taken him to the forests of Central America, the black beaches of Iceland, the streets of Oxford, and through misty trails in the Pacific Northwest.
Vengroff is also an educator, consultant, and an active member in numerous podcast communities and organizations, including the Audio Drama Hub and IADAS. He works full-time creating podcasts and lives in Bavaria with his wife and their rescue dog, Eezo.
On October 8, Fool & Scholar is releasing its first non-fiction podcast, THAT SCARES ME TOO!
Tumblr media
Vengroff says: “In this conversational podcast, we discuss and share historical legends and more recent ghost stories from around the world.”
The new show’s marketing pitch is: “Join Dr. Sophie Yang and K.A. Statz to discuss horror tales and myths from Asia. We’ll share stories about urban legends, unknown entities, cemetery superstitions, the undead, ghost month, cursed objects, folklore, and more from Taiwan and other Mandarin-speaking communities. Together, we discuss, compare, and contrast horrors from our cultures and talk about the shared human terrors.”
You can listen to the one-minute teaser here. This may be one of my favorite trailers of all time. Why? First, it’s only a minute-long. Second, there’s very little dialogue, which is: “First, I’m going to tell you a couple and scary stories, and then we’ll continue the discussion.” I love the transposition of concepts. The words are spoken in a flat, matter-of-fact tone, while the creepy music and flatness of the narrator’s voice presage something far more sinister.
Third, it is the silence and the eerie music that dominates the 60-second interlude. It’s a classic “less is more” strategy, and it slays as a table setter for the upcoming podcast.
These two shows are another winner for independent podcasting. Check out The White Vault and That Scares Me Too!

In this post, I'm going to vent a little bit, but I'm also going to write about my Better CR in depth.
I really try not to whine about how I haven't shifted yet overmuch because I know that it's counterproductive to actually succeeding (focusing on the state of lack, etc.), but sometimes when it feels overwhelming I think writing it down as an act of release can be helpful.
And everything feels overwhelming right now. It's been a lot. I think having to permanently re-home my dog is what cinched my decision to permashift as soon as I can. The house is replaceable, but my dog is not.
It's been hard, and I've been genuinely trying to shift since getting into the tiny little rental place, but I've had nothing to show for it so far and that has been discouraging. If writing all this out doesn't help to release this discouragement, I may take a short break. I'm trying not to feel overly desperate, but it's hard not to do when you feel like your whole CR life just collapsed around you. Just trying to stay as Zen as possible about it all, to focus on one day at a time, and to keep a healthy balance between tending to CR needs and taking the time to focus on shifting.
I know that it may take a little time to successfully permashift, so I'm trying not to rush it too much. I have time to experiment a bit. It'll probably be better to do that anyway than to just permashift right out of the proverbial gate. I am fully committed to finally permashifting at this point; however, this does not mean that I won't make some controlled shifts back to a certain "timeline branch" of this CR where things work out for me, including getting my dog back, so I can have some closure. But they will be carefully controlled and scripted, so that when I shift I will be able to easily shift back to my Home Reality that is my Better CR. In other words, I'll be shifting to an alternate CR that looks exactly like this one, but I'll be scripting what happens in the future instead of the past, as well as scripting that I can instantly shift back to my Home Reality when I intend.
I think I'd like to write a bit about my Better CR. I love it so much; it's nothing fancy or exciting, but it's cozy and comfortable and a great place to use as a Home Reality from which I can shift to other DRs.
Foremost in my mind right now: in my Better CR, my dog Shadow is still with me, happy and healthy and secure, and I scripted that there will be no negative effects from natural disasters in my life. I live in the foothills of the Berkshires of Massachusetts, have a beautiful three-bedroom home on a rural property, and work from home as a freelance artist. I only have to take three or four projects a year, because I've got a sizeable amount of money from wise investments over the years. I've been working on my illustrated urban fantasy series, and it's coming together nicely.
I live in an area with gorgeous forests, rivers and lakes and waterfalls, and gently rolling hills that rise into nearby mountains. The town is called Jasper, and it's picturesque and quaint, a bit reminiscent of Stars Hollow from Gilmore Girls, but it's just big enough to prevent boredom. Jasper has all my favorite restaurants, and I've scripted in a few family-owned restaurants that have amazing food of different varieties too. There is a big apple orchard/pumpkin patch farm that offers seasonal attractions, festivals and fairs and such. There are lots of beautiful nature trails around, including one right down the road from me. There is a great bookshop with a coffee shop/bakery attached. There are different venues for the arts, including live stage productions, galleries, and such. There's a movie theater. There is a large, teeming metropolis about an hour away, so I can get my fill of urban life when I feel like it.
A couple of my best friends in that DR rent the little guest house I have on my property too so I'm not really living alone. I have lots of personal space due to having my house to myself, but they are over quite often. They are a married couple; their names are Andrew and Jonas. Andrew is a pediatrician and Jonas is an architect. They are thinking about starting a family soon, but right now they're just cat dads. I haven't scripted much about them personality-wise, but in my DR I've known them for a long, long time and we are like family. We also have a friend, Lorna, who is a part of this little found family. Lorna is Wiccan, and she has a young daughter. The four (well, five including Lorna's daughter; I haven't scripted her name, but she's maybe five years old, I think?) of us hang out all the time, and we do holidays together.
In this world, there is a longevity gene that is known to occur spontaneously in certain family lines, allowing them to live for 7-800 years. Scientists in the mid 1900s studied that gene and were able to create a gene therapy program that extends the lifespan of anyone who uses it. It's become common practice, so overall the human lifespan is much longer than it was in the past.
The world in general is a much better place, peaceful and stable. The US has successfully implemented such things as a UBI (universal basic income) for people beneath a certain median, and a National Health Service that covers all medical expenses, including psychiatric care, gender affirming care, and reproductive healthcare. Housing, food, and other living expenses are very affordable. Minimum wage is a living wage. Bigotry of any kind is so frowned upon as taboo that anyone engaging in that sort of behavior is ostracized and basically unable to function in society because no one will hire them, rent to them, sell to them, etc., and they aren't protected by law either. They are shut down online too, so they can't recruit that way. There are still some pockets of those sorts, but they are the absolute minority and have zero influence or power in society or the world at large.
Because I feel the need to work through some of my childhood trauma still, I did script that my family was exactly the way they were in my Former Reality (the reality I'm in right now as I type this). They were extreme right-wing religious cult members when I was a kid. However, in my Better CR, they deconstructed all of that and nowadays are fully embracing progressive, universalist Christianity. They are no longer homophobic, transphobic, and generally shitty people, but have become better people all around. They have sincerely apologized to me for the trauma they caused me, and I have also been working with a therapist to heal from it. They live in Texas still, so we don't see each other very often, but we have a fairly good relationship. My dad's sister (who in my FR is much like my parents, but she's a "Christian counsellor") in my DR is a licensed psychiatrist and works in the secular field, but she is also a progressive Christian, and has been all along.
In this DR, I accidentally shifted to Narnia when I was a child. I was there for many years, and had a special connection to Aslan. I stopped due to parental fearmongering when I talked to them about it (remember, they were still religious fanatics then), but years later I would discover shifting again and remember my childhood experiences.
I have experimented with shifting a bit since discovering it, and have found it to be remarkably easy to do. I've mostly just been practicing with "small" shifts, focusing on shifting to a world where I, for instance, have a dragon sculpture on my bedroom fireplace mantel, or where there is a particular type of tree in my yard. I've written several scripts, all of which match the scripts I've written in my FR. I haven't tried yet to shift to any of those worlds, but I know it will be so very, very easy to do whenever I feel ready.
I have a lovely online shifting-focused community that I'm a part of in my Better CR, and have a few close friends from it. We have a lot of overlapping interests, and have a couple shared group DRs, and a few other DRs where we simply script each other in, which is always fun to hear about.
In my Better CR, I will have perfect memory of all of my shifts, and I will be able to process and compartmentalize as necessary, in a healthy manner. My therapist also believes in reality shifting (it's actually a pretty common thing in that world, though there is a lot of debate about what reality shifting actually is, with explanations ranging from psychological to mystical) so she can help me process too if I need it.
I've scripted that I clearly remember my Former Reality, in a similar manner that I remember my DR shifts, but I still feel and think like I've been in my Better CR the whole time. My Former Reality is still a lived experience that I can learn and grow from just like any other shift, but it doesn't overshadow my Better CR experiences. It will just feel like another world I shifted/shift to.
With that being said, I do have pretty good control over when and where I shift in my Better CR. I generally don't shift spontaneously anymore, and if I shift to a random reality it's almost always because I just want to "wander," and I always have a "safety scripting" list that applies to these random reality shifts. And I can always remember to come back whenever I want, whether it be after a couple minutes or a couple weeks. I am also able to accurately shift to scripted DRs, and I have a waiting room that I can shift to when I want to be absolutely certain of fine details when I shift to a DR, just for peace of mind. So I can shift with accuracy from my Better CR, and I can shift with pinpoint accuracy from my waiting room.
I have not scripted a romantic interest in my Better CR, just because I feel like I'd rather have romantic connections in my DRs that I shift to from there. I like having a bit of solitude and personal space in my Home Reality. I'm happy just living with my dog (and cats? I don't know, I keep wavering on whether or not I have cats in this reality, maybe because Shadow doesn't get along with cats in my FR and I've just kind of gotten locked in to thinking of her like that).
I am an actively practicing witch in my Better CR, and have all the same spirit connections that I have in my FR. These deities and spirits know I've shifted to my Better CR and they are aware of my FR life and the lessons I've learned along the way. My spiritual path is powerful and enriching, and I have a few nice groups of witchy friends that I interact with in person and online.
There are a few other odds and ends that I've scripted for my Better CR, but this entry is getting super long so I think I'll stop here.
