Birthday Blunder ~ Sonamy
A/N -
Thank you too @lorrynha for requesting this one! I really hope you like it!!
Sonic cant decide on a present for Amy, but then finds the perfect gift.
Boom!Sonamy Fluff.
Sonic had been racking his brain, he had been trying to come up with the perfect gift for his pink team mate’s birthday. He wanted to get her something special, something heartfelt. He’d thought of things like a new tea set or new knitting needles, but they felt too mundane they weren’t special enough, plus she already had all of those things.
Eventually worst came to worst, he decided to visit the library. He was sat on a table with book upon book pilled around him, some on archaeology, some on how to buy gifts for women, others on how to make the perfect craft baskets. He was looking for something, anything, but nothing was jumping out at him. Sighing loudly he decided to look around the library again, there had to be a book with something in it. He strolled down the aisles of books until he came across s book entitled Floriculture, which seemed to draw his attention. He opened the book and began flipping through the pages, it seemed to be a book on flowers. He stopped when a pink flower caught his eye, it was beautiful, and it was perfect.
Unfortunately for Sonic it’s an extremely rare flower and only grows in one place a little ways out of the village, which meant he’d have to sneak away to retrieve it. Easier said than done when you live in a small village where everyone knows what you are doing and when you are doing it.
“Sonic? You’re…you’re in the library?” A voice sounded behind him, making him drop the book in his hand.
He scrambled to pick up the book, “Amy! Uh yeah, just…uh…reading.”
“Ok…good! What are you reading? Do you want some suggestions? Oh Sonic this is so exciting!” Amy said with the smile on her face getting wider and wider with every word.
Two hours later and Sonic was leaving the library with a stack of books, and an extremely excited Amy by his side.
“I’ve got to go, I promised Sticks we’d go to the spa, but let me know which book you start with!” Amy said before walking away and giving Sonic a happy wave goodbye.
“Yeah…I’ll do that.” Sonic groaned.
He made his way home, dumping the books on the table, he dug through the piles and found the one book he actually wanted. He flipped to the page and read it over.
“This flower represents strength, beauty and tenderness of heart. It grows in the wild, and is rather rare, but incredibly beautiful.” He couldn’t believe his luck, it really was the perfect gift.
Now he had to come up with a way of getting it without causing a scene. The next day rolled around and he’d met up with the team for a relaxing day at the beach.
“I was thinking we should take a trip.” Sonic said aloud while the team built sandcastles.
“A trip to where?” Tails asked as he placed a flag upon one of the turrets.
“I thought maybe hiking, we don’t appreciate nature enough…” Sonic replied as he smoothed over some sand.
“That’s a great idea! We could have a picnic!” Amy said sounding excited.
“Yeah! And I can show you had to catch a fish with your bare hands!” Sticks said mimicking strangling a fish.
“Nature? Since when have you…” Tails said giving Sonic a perplexed look.
“Always buddy, you know me...” Sonic snapped back.
“Right…” Tails said looking over too an equally confused Knuckles.
“So when do you wanna go?” Knuckles asked the blue hedgehog.
“Tomorrow sound good?” Sonic said tapping his chin as if he was thinking it over.
“That sounds great!” Sticks said happily.
Sonic knew Tails didn’t believe him, and that Knuckles was sceptical of him too, so he made the decision to talk to them about his plan. As the girls continued to build, he pulled them aside told them his plan.
“D’aww Sonic, you looove her!” Knuckles teased.
“Shut up!” Sonic said grinding his teeth angrily.
“I think Amy’s, gonna love it Sonic!” Tails said patting his buddy’s shoulder.
They continued with their day enjoying each other’s company. Each of them looking forward to the trip. They bid one another farewell and went home to rest up for tomorrow’s adventure. They decided to leave early in the morning.
Amy’s alarm went off but she stopped it before the second beep. She’d been up for hours, packing the essentials, and to make the perfect picnic for the team. She raced outside, she didn’t care if she was the first to meet at the rendezvous point, and she couldn’t wait.
To Amy’s surprise Tails was already waiting there, caring an oversized rucksack that looked far too heavy for him.
“Hi Tails!” Amy said as she approached him.
He looked up and smiled at her. “Hey Amy, I see you’re early too!”
“Yep, I can’t wait to see nature in all its glory. There are so many flowers that I’ve always wanted to see, but never had an excuse to go and actually see them.” She said a smile breaking across her face.
They continued talking until the other’s arrived, and once they were all together they began their journey. As they walked they saw huge trees, streams, beautiful flowers, wildlife, it was everything they’d hoped for. Unfortunately for Sonic, everything except the one thing this whole expedition had been for.
“Why don’t we stop here and have the picnic?” Amy said setting the basket down.
They were atop a hill covered in grass and flowers. It looked down over a stunning view of green trees swaying ever so gently in the soft summer breeze.
“Yeah, then I can keep an eye on any incoming intruders!” Sticks said looking around franticly.
They lay the blanket down and Amy set out the food. They ate it happily enjoying all of Amy’s amazing culinary skills. After finishing, they decided to play a game of Frisbee. The game went smoothly until the Frisbee went into some bushes. Knuckles volunteered to get it, but while he was retrieving the small disc, he spotted a flower, it was beautiful, and then he remembered Sonic description of the flower he wanted for Amy.
“Sonic! I found that flower you wanted!” He shouted as he ran back to the group.
Sonic couldn’t believe Knuckles sometimes. He wanted the floor to swallow him whole. “O…oh” Was all he could say.
The group stared at Sonic, but before anyone could speak Knuckles grabbed Sonic tugging him towards the plant, with the others following behind them.
“See!” Knuckles said pointing at it proudly.
“Wait, that’s that rare flower, from the time of the ancients!” Sticks said as she looked at the pink flower. “Why do you want it?” She said looking at Sonic.
“I…I…I…well I was gonna give it to Amy…for her birthday.” Sonic said hanging his head in defeat.
He was so embarrassed he was practically as pink as Amy by now, and wanted to run so badly, but he stood his ground.
“Guy’s let give them some space.” Tails said walking back up to the picnic blanket.
The others nodded and followed the yellow fox.
Amy stood awkwardly rubbing her arm. She knew the flower, she knew its meaning. She suddenly remembered the library incident, she had thought it strange seeing Sonic in the library let alone him taking out a book that seemed to be on flowers. Which meant he’d found the flower in the book, meaning he must have known what the flower meant. He’d put so much thought into the present, she was so overwhelmed. Sonic finally looked up at Amy, she was crying, but smiling the biggest smile he’d ever seen.
“H..happy Birthday.” He stuttered.
She walked over to him and grabbed his scarf and pulling him in to a kiss. It was a bit wet due to Amy’s tears but Sonic didn’t care. They pulled apart and smiled at one another happily. Sonic brushed a tear from Amy’s cheek.
“I love you, you idiot.” She said as she giggled softy.
“I…well…you know.” He said smirking.
“Yeah, I do.” She said taking his hand and pulling him back to the picnic.
A/N -
I really hope you guys liked this. I’m Sorry that this one took a little longer, I’ve been super busy for the last couple of days.
Sorry about my spelling dyslexia is meann.
(@@lorrynha Request)
Sonic had no idea what to give Amy. While making some research looking for a perfect present, he found out that there was some beautiful rare flowers that just grows in a hill/mountain/forest a little far from the village. These flowers were a symbol of tenderness, beauty and strength for past Indians tribes that used to live there. "That fits perfectly on Amy!", thought Sonic. He was determined to get some of those flowers to her. But he wanted to keep it a secret, and even with his speed, Amy would totally notice he was gone, and Sonic didn't want to let her suspicious... The next day, Sonic talks with your folks about taking a break of the village, "maybe travelling for that hill/mountain/forest" he says. The girls get extremely excited, but the boys get a little suspicious since Sonic isn't that into nature. Sonic tells them what his real intentions are. Knuckles slips "Hey, isn't those the flowers you we're looking for?", and Sticks, who knows a lot about ancients cultures and nature asks innocently "those flowers were a symbol of tenderness, beauty and strength for past Indians tribes that used to live here, why would Sonic want those?" finishing to screw Sonic's entire plan up…

Friday, 27th September 2019 – Waldkirch-Buchholz, Schonach, Triberg, Vaals
Most of the day was spent in the car on a variety of German autobahns, peering into clouds of spray and trying not to crash but before that we managed both a small amount of shopping and some sightseeing. First though, one more very good breakfast at the Hotel Schlossmühle, before a comprehensive repack of the car boot to make sure everything was secure and wouldn’t rattle too much, and that the grape vine I’d bought at Naturoparc, a Gewürztraminer, wasn’t going to get crushed or otherwise damaged.
After I’d done that I took a short walk into town and stopped off at the butcher’s to buy half a kilo of Black Forest ham, and a large pack of maultaschen that would go into the freezer when we got home. The lovely man behind the counter also handed me a present of couple of large slices of paté-en-croute which would do for our lunch for the first two days after we got home. From there we drove over to Waldkirch-Buchholz to Weingut Moosman to buy a couple of cases of the wines we had drunk the day before at the Alte Wache in Freiburg. And again I was given a present, a jar of local fruit jelly. I was going to struggle when shopping on my return home, because I’d be wondering why no one was giving me a gift along with my shopping.
I then spent a few minutes having a fight with the SatNav. Before we set off I had worked out how to add a driving route to its memory and was able to call that up and set it to navigate us along the way. What it didn’t seem able to handle was taking me to the nearest point on the route, rather than the absolute starting point, and as a result we ended up navigating round the centre of Freiburg more than once in several different directions before I gave up and entered a way point and told it to take us there! I had wanted to cover some of the Black Forest Road but we wasted so much time on trying to achieve escape velocity from Freiburg that we ran out of time. Instead we decided to head for Triberg and Germany’s highest waterfall.
On the way we were sidetracked, as we so often are, by Schonach, which is a pretty odd little place all told. It has around 4,000 inhabitants and is known for winter sports, with a number of famous athletes coming from the town, which explains why one of its advertised attractions is the Langenbach ski Jumping hill, which you can visit every Wednesday between 14:00 and 16:00 and climb up to the jumping point. It doesn’t explain the giant living advent calendar which of course we didn’t see, it being the wrong time of year. The Church of Saint Urban seems standard enough, but then there are two cuckoo clocks, and these are not just any cuckoo clocks. One is the world’s biggest cuckoo clock, and believe me it is big, and then there’s the first world’s biggest cuckoo clock.
This was built by Jürgen Dold and is 3.60 metres wide, 3.10 metres high, and 1 metre deep, and is housed in a small Black Forest style house. It’s open daily from 09:00 – 12:00, though we arrived just after 12:00 and were still invited in. It cuckoos on the hour and the half hour so we settled in on a bench in the garden to wait.
After that we headed into Triberg and parked up. Triberg as a name is first mentioned in any document in 1239 when Peter of Triberc is listed as a witness to a transaction, and in 1330 there is the first mention of an actual place called Triberg which seems to have had a castle as well. The Hohenbergs, who had held the castle for four generations, died our and the property passed in the hands of Duke Albrecht of Austria. It remained an imperial fief of the Habsburgs for around four centuries, and seems to have been a pretty miserable time for the townspeople. In 1654 they finally reached breaking point after years of suppression, poverty and being sold off to the highest bidders, and they raised 30,000 guilders to buy their independence. As a result Archduke Ferdinand Karl of Austria issued an edict that confirmed that the privileges of Triberg could never be pledged or sold.
By 1720 the town consisted of 422 inhabitants, living in 35 houses. By 1800 the population had pretty much doubled to 792. Shortly afterwards, the locals began to try and develop the waterfalls as a tourist attraction, setting up pathways to let the visitors get closer. A year later, after the Peace of Pressburg, 16 German princes joined forces under Napoleon’s military and political protection to form the Rhine Confederation, and Triberg became part of the new Grand Duchy of Baden. After Grand Duchess Stephanie visited the waterfalls in 1815 more and more visitors arrived and Triberg was established as a tourist attraction. A serious fire in 1826 burned down most of the town which is why it’s not packed with half-timbered buildings. The rebuilding was of course done in what was a contemporary style at the time. In 1864 further steps were taken to turn the town into a Spa, with the a beautification committee being set up. They were assitsed in their efforts when the Black Forest Railway opened a decade later. Modernisation continued apace and Triberg was the first city in Germany to erect publicly owned electric street lights. They were keen on the new in Triberg, and also set up the world’s first electric ski lift in the early 1900s, kicking off the area’s development as a winter sports centre.
We didn’t have a lot of time, but we wanted to take a quick look at the waterfall, especially as they would likely be at their best after a couple of days of heavy overnight rain. First though we found ourselves face to face with the second set of Easter island-inspired sculptures of the trip, after the strange ones in the Parc Malraux in Illkirch-Graffenstaden. These five sculptures on the waterfall path are the work of German-Brazilian multi-artist Woody Woodnock, also known as Michael Nock. They started life as the largest Douglas firs that could be found in the city forest, and weigh around 1.8 tonnes each, with a circumference of up to 2.70 metres. They were named Edekaner after a naming competition and they are just subtly insane, wearing, as they do, Bollenhuts, the women’s hats with red pompoms on the top that were worn by unmarried women from just three villages in the Black Forest but which are now regarded as representative of the whole area.
We crossed the road to the waterfall, thinking that the town looked attractive, for another time. The waterfall drops 163 meters down via a series of cascades and pools, as the River Gutach finds its way down to the valley floor. As with may German towns that have some sort of dramatic water feature, the locals will try and convince you that the water is good for your health, and that because it ionises the air, it is beneficial if you have bronchial asthma or a cold. That aside, they really are most impressive, and can be viewed at all times of year, including at Christmas when they are part of the Triberger Weihnachtszauber. They’re also lit up at night, so it would be hard to miss them!
The paths are steep, and slippery and the “easy” path was closed off so it was a case of slipping and sliding my way up about halfway, looking out for the friendly squirrels that are now so used to visitors that they just hang about begging for food. Maybe it was too damp, but I only saw one, and it wasn’t hanging about for a photoshoot, perhaps because I didn’t have anything to give in return.
We ran out of time so I scrambled back down again (which was a lot harder than going up had been) and we headed to the car to set off for the Belgian/Dutch/German border which was rather further away than I really liked the look of but would make Saturday a very easy day in comparison to today. We were staying just inside the Netherlands in a small town called Vaals, where I had managed to find a very nice looking place to lodge for a night. It was also just a short drive from the centre of Aachen so we could have a day there before we headed for the overnight ferry. Vaals is in the extreme southeastern part of the Dutch province of Limburg, in the southeastern part of the Netherlands and borders on both Belgium and Germany. The three borders meet at the Drielandenpunt, close to the highest point in the Netherlands, the Vaalserberg. Around a quarter of the population is actually German, and many of them work in the nearby German city of Aachen. Tourism is now a major source of income, though its fortunes were founded on coal and textiles during the industrial age. It seems to have been occupied by the Romans, and is one of a handful of places in the Netherlands with a name that comes from the Latin. Certainly the Limburg area was densely populated during Roman times, with a focus on Cologne (Colonia Claudia Ara Agrippinensium).
Vaals is first mentioned in documents in 1041 when Emperor Henry III donated land to the Abbey of Saint Adalbert and made a distinction between the city of Aachen and this land by referring to it as “in Vallis” (in the valley). Given its geographical position it saw a lot of action during the various wars, including the time, in 1568, when the forces of William of Orange looted the church. In 1661 Vaals joined the Republic of the United Netherlands and as many wealthy citizens moved in, it became a prosperous industrial hub with numerous famous visitors. The Conference of Vienna assigned Aachen to Prussia and Vaals to the Kingdom of the Netherlands though when Belgium declared independence in 1830, Vaals became part of Belgium for 9 years. Afterwards it returned to the Kingdom of the Netherlands, sitting on four national boundaries (Prussia, Belgium, the Netherlands and the Neutral Territory of Moresnet). As a result of the less than nation-state of Moresnet, there was a Four-Border-Point, but not a Four-Country-Point although the Viergrenzenweg (“Four-Borders-Road”) still exists in Vaals. After 1919 Moresnet was absorbed into Belgium.
After 1840, when the various borders were closed, Vaals turned from a wealthy industrial town into a leisure and holiday destination complete with casinos. The Germans referred to the town as the “Vaalser Paradies” and a tram was built running to and from Aachen, via Vaals. During World War II the town was very isolated and post-war many of the townsfolk found jobs in Aachen legally while illegally smugglers’ routes across the border abounded as the “Owls of Vaals” plied their trade. Nowadays the town can best be regarded as Dutch suburb of a German city and it is even well integrated into Aachen’s transport system with rerular cross border buses.
We were staying at the rather swish Hotel Kasteel Bloemendal, built in the late 1700s for the Aachen cloth manufacturer Arnold von Clermont. A very rich man, with clients that included the Tzar, set about building a palace opposite his new weaving mill. In fact both Peter the Great and Napoleon Bonaparte have stayed in the castle, the latter much later on of course. Arnold died before the work was complete, and it was left to his son to carry on both the business and the building work. After the recession caused by the French Revolution the house was sold to the Aachen City Councillor Johann Wilhelm van Lommessen, who donated the building to the order of the Sacred Heart, a women’s religious order that his two daughters, Anna and Caroline, joined.
It became a renowned Catholic boarding school, both in Europe and beyond, with pupils that included Rose Kennedy. During the occupation of 1940-1944 it became hospital with 350 beds, but reverted to being a boarding school after 1947, continuing until the 1970s when the number of both pupils and nuns started to decline. In 1976, almost 130 years of monastic life came to an end and by 1978 the building was owned by the municipality of Vaals. After slightly more than a decade, the municipality, along with van der Valk hotels, in collaboration with the province of Limburg and the Netherlands Conservation Agency, decided to restore the complex and reopen it as a luxury hotel. It really is glorious and it would have been a shame if it had been left to decay! After a series of irritating delays on the motorways, and a number of detours to avoid it, we were later arriving that we had planned to be, so they moved our dinner booking back, giving us time to clean up. They also gave us an upgrade to one of the castle rooms, free of charge so we were very happy (and very comfortable).

Hayward Heath – Discover the hidden gems!
Are you Haywards Heath born and bred… or perhaps you are considering a move to this wonderful Sussex town? The launch of ‘The Priory’ (stunning 1,2 & 3 bedroom apartments) has prompted this blog focused on amazing things to see and do in the area! We have uncovered a few gems… and, of course, made sure we have included firm favourites!
Wakehurst place
Our Haywards Heath blog wouldn’t be complete without a link to the stunning Wakehurst Place. Having had many enjoyable walks – seeing the bulbs bursting through in the spring time… through to gorgeous blossom, enjoying a cup of tea, it is always a treat!
“Our wild botanic garden on the High Weald of West Sussex has over 500 acres of beautiful ornamental gardens, woodlands and a nature reserve. Wakehurst is also home to the Millennium Seed Bank, the largest wild seed conservation project in the world.”
Flinders Coffee Shop
This lovely coffee shop has come up in so many conversations we needed to share this with you… apparently it has (and we quote) ” the best banana bread in the world”, Liam in our Move Revolution team loves Flinders and he is not the only one to give Flinders a fabulous review.
“First visit today. Excellent service and staff helpful and friendly. My sister and I had toasted banana bread and honey, very yummy. Latte coffee good as well. A lovely cosy place to chill and relax and no noisy music”
“Great coffee, amazing food, comfortable atmosphere and friendly staff 10/10″
If you can fit in a coffee break, or perhaps you would love to treat a friend – we can definitely recommend you popping in!
Ashdown Manna Cookery School
Perhaps you love the idea of visiting a cookery school, with a friend as a birthday treat… this comes highly recommended by our Marketing Director Nici Jordan who visited Ashdown Manna Cookery School with a girl friend for a Macron Cookery Class. The results were brilliant – rhubarb flavoured macarons were her personal favourite, although her husband loved dark chocolate macron filled with chocolate and grand manier ganache!
With a wide variety of cookery classes to suit all tastes this is what the school have written about their classes…
“Welcome to Ashdown Manna, a small independent cookery school, offering inspirational half and full day courses from our converted barn in Blackham, East Sussex, on the edge of the beautiful Ashdown Forest.Looking to learn new recipes and techniques, or just brush up on your existing culinary skills? We offer over 30 different courses, suitable for all levels of ability. All of our courses are taught by experienced professional chefs who ensure your day is both fun and informal. With a maximum group size of 8-10 students per course, individual attention is always assured. We supply recipe cards, ingredients, aprons and even a kitchen assistant to wash up for you!”
Another recent recommendation is an interiors shop with a difference, although when you see Home Sweet Home from outside it immediately tempts you to have a look inside..
Home Sweet Home
A recent wonderful review gives a flavour to what is available in the Home Sweet Home…they have offer a bespoke painting service, beautiful new furniture and other gorgeous home accessories…
“I recently bought an upcycled sideboard from this store. I was also able to have it painted in a bespoke colour. Vicky took at look at some photos of our existing furniture, took the time to talk through the colour options with me and was super helpful! We love the finished product: the way it looks as well as the fact that it has a bit of history! We will definitely go back to @homesweethomesussex when We’re in the market for more pieces!”
Perhaps you are looking for somewhere special for lunch, Jeremy’s Restaurant comes highly recommended – as you can tell from the stunning photographs of their food!
Jeremy’s Restaurant
Perfect for a special night out with friends, perhaps an anniversary celebration or birthday – this looks an amazing setting
Another recommendation that keeps coming up time and time again is for Ockenden Manor…which is in the village of Cuckfield next to Haywards Heath.
“A fine Elizabethan manor house with 28 lavishly decorated rooms, outstanding spa and an award-winning restaurant set in eight acres of beautiful grounds overlooking Cuckfield Park.
With its history and character, elegant sitting room warmed by a roaring log fire and cosy, wood-panelled bar, Ockenden Manor is a wonderful place to escape.”
With amazing reviews…
“Hidden within Cuckfield, arguably one of the country’s prettiest Tudor villages, this Elizabethan manor house is a haven for foodies, with a Michelin-starred restaurant and sweeping views of the South Downs. The peaceful hotel is an ideal base for exploring the stately homes of Kent and Sussex, or if you want to just stop, head down to their walled garden with a coffee and a good book. Bliss.”
Ockenden Manor
Repast Supper Club
This looks like great fun! Repast was born out of a passion for cooking, a desire to feed people and a fascination with history. Our team haven’t had a chance to enjoy a Repast meal.. please let us know what you think… the reviews are fantastic.
“Ultimately our suppers provide you with outstanding food in a relaxed and welcoming setting. The twist is that they have a historical theme. Rather than religiously reproducing the food that our ancestors ate we use old recipes as a reference point. Our menus may take inspiration from a historical event; a traditional celebration; a period of history or even a famous chef or food writer from our past. So one month we may be celebrating the work of Escoffier whilst the next we could be serving food inspired by ancient Rome. Sam and Neil were finalists in Channel 4’s My Kitchen Rules UK where they showcased their love of historical food.”
Who can resist a G&T? Or perhaps a few G&T’s… there are a wonderful variety of boutique Gin distillers throughout Sussex, this is a fantastic opportunity to ‘sample’ a few of them all in one place, and especially when the setting is beautiful Borde Hill Gardens
Sussex Gin Festival
“Our gintastic outdoor festival will take place at Borde Hill Garden in Haywards Heath on Saturday 13th of July 2019. Supported by the wonderful team at Borde Hill Garden, this exciting outdoor festival promises to be one of the hottest tickets in town this year. And what’s not to like; a wide range of locally distilled Sussex Gins waiting for you to try, delicious hot and cold food, captivating demonstrations on all things gin, the famous grounds of Borde Hill Garden, and not forgetting our live programme of entertainment all day.”
Did you know that there are over 200 gin distilleries in Sussex alone? The county has become a hotbed for producing bespoke, small batch, and artisanal gins. Sussex Gin Fest will be celebrating the rich gin culture that has erupted in Sussex since the ‘ginaissance’ began in 2014.
We will be showcasing all there is to know about gin, from production, tasting methods, and cocktails, Sussex Gin Fest will bring you the best that Sussex has to offer. All of our gin partners will be operating a bar, which means you get to try all of these fabulous Sussex gins”
We understand this wonderful day will also include amazing local artisan food!
A short drive from Haywards Heath is Bolney Wine Estate – we have heard wonderful things about the estate
Bolney Wine Estate
“Whether you want to pop in for our Trail, or enjoy one of our tour and tasting packages, we hope we have something for everyone. Families are most welcome on our Drop On Tours at Bolney Wine Estate
If you are looking for the perfect Christmas gift we offer gift vouchers and evouchers for our main tour packages at a range of prices – see below for our Taster Tour, Afternoon Tea and Grand Gourmet tours.”
We hope you will be tempted to visit one of these wonderful places and why not book a viewing at The Priory at the same time! Just call Mathew Gurr on 01444 657 657.
If you are thinking of moving or letting your home in the Haywards Heath area our team would love to hear from you, just give them a call on 01444 657 657 to book a valuation.

Uttarakhand Tourism saw a sharp rise in popularity the last couple of years. This northern state in India is a cornucopia of many hill stations and tourist attractions. There is so much to do and so much to see as Uttarakhand is blessed with natural beauty – jungles, rivers, snow-clad mountains and an inherent sense of divinity. The state is also called “Devbhumi” (“The Land of the Gods”) as it is home to many highly revered shrines like Badrinath, Kedarnath and so many others. And then there is offbeat Uttarakhand that we keep exploring whenever we can find an opportunity.
It can take a whole book to write about what are the best things to do in Uttarakhand. But that is for another day. Here is our humble attempt to create an Uttarakhand guide about what all can you do in 7 days, through this 7 Day Uttarakhand Travel Itinerary and Guide. We have tried to include destinations that you can reach within 6-7 hours of journey from each other.
How to reach Uttarakhand
The best way to reach Uttarakhand from any part of the world is by starting from Delhi. Delhi is very well-connected with Uttarakhand via road, rail and air. Though there are 5 airports in Uttarakhand, you may or may not get a direct flight. Once you are in Delhi, you can opt for road transport like a rented cab, bus or a self driven car. From our experience, Uttarakhand road trips are most convenient to reach some of the offbeat places.
The Best of Uttarakhand in One Week
[toc]
Day 1 – Delhi to Haridwar
Haridwar is famous for River Ganges. It is a temple town in Uttarakhand and is famous for its Ganga Aarti that is performed every morning and evening. One can cover the 200 kms odd strech from Delhi to Haridwar within 5 hours and the road condition is good. The stretch is full of eating options like dhabas, hotels and cafes. The good part is Haridwar is in the Himalayan foothills so one can expect decent weather.
Things to do in Haridwar include Ganga Aarti especially in the evening. It’s a spectacle like no other. Thousands of devotees gather around the river banks to offer prayers to Goddess Ganga. Priests with lamps in their hands chant mantras and the atmosphere looks blissful. There are myriad temples in Haridwar each with a different story. You can also visit Rishikesh from Haridwar which is barely 45 minutes drive and there are some famous temples and ashram in Rishikesh. The famous Beatles Ashram is also in Rishikesh. One can opt for hourly meditation and spa sessions in Rishikesh as well. This zone is also the most popular water rafting zone in North India.

Day 2 – Haridwar to Mussoorie
Haridwar to Mussoorie is around 85kms and is not more than a 3 hours drive. Mussoorie is also called the “Queen of Hills” and hence from Day 2 your trip is going to be mostly on high terrain. Mussoorie is immensely popular with tourists because of many reasons. For one, Mussoorie has great weather throughout the year. Further, it has access to all sorts of hotel options from basic to luxury, from family friendly places to hostels and dormitories. Thirdly, this place has fantastic connectivity to other locations in Uttarakhand.
Things to do in Mussoorie include pottering down the famous Mall Road, trekking to Char Dukan, St Paul’s Church and early morning walk to camel’s back point. While trekking, do look out for antique and cobbler shops that make handmade shoes on order. A visit to hill resort Rockby’s Manor and savouring cheese omelette at Lovely Omelette Shop are also highly recommended. You may shop for souvenirs from the Mall Road of Mussoorie. It is full of gift options for all tastes and budgets.
Day 3 – Mussoorie to Chakrata
You will drive 100kms and reach Chakrata in a span of 3 hours from Mussoorie and see a completely different side of Uttarakhand here. While Mussoorie is extremely touristy, Chakrata is quite the opposite. It is an offbeat place and you may not see many tourists here. But it is breathtakingly beautiful and has retained its tranquillity. Chakrata is less explored but there are also many things one can do here in addition to soaking in the natural beauty. The most popular activity here is to visit Tiger Falls. These falls create sounds of roaring tigers when water drops from top of the hill to the pond at the bottom. It is a perfect picnic spot and you can frolic in the water. Apart from the waterfalls one can also visit Mahsu Temple and Budher Caves.
For adventure lovers there are arrangements for water rappelling at Kimona Falls.
(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});
Day 4 – Chakrata to Lansdowne
Start the day early and within 6-7 hours of driving from Chakrata, covering around 250 kms, you will reach Lansdowne, a sleepy hill station in Uttarakhand. Lansdowne is essentially a Cantonment Town, and is home to the eilte Garhwal Rifles of the Indian Army and hence you can expect peace, cleanliness and order. It is one of our most favorite places in Uttarakhand, no wonder we have visited it many times.
Things to do in Lansdowne include visiting Bulla Taal, a manmade lake which almost looks like a set from Indiana Jones movie, St Mary’s Church and trek up to Tiffin Top. We would highly recommend doing all these things by foot. All these things are under one hour trekking from each other and you will be able to absorb the beauty of Lansdowne better. Don’t forget to savour the famous chocolate burfi and Baal Mithai – the specialty desserts of this region. We bet you will get these packed for friends and family.
Day 5 – Lansdowne to Nainital
A 6-7 hour drive covering around 250 kms will take you from Lansdowne to Nainital, which is perhaps the busiest hill station in Uttarakhand. Just like Mussoorie, Nainital also gets tourists all through the year. Summer vacations are the peak season in Nainital and if you don’t like crowds you should avoid holiday months for visiting this place. Nevertheless, it is a beautiful hill station any day.
The Naini Lake surrounded by green mountains is the heart of this place. Boating in Naini Lake is just one of the things to do here. Apart from this, you can visit the Naina Devi Temple, enjoy cable car rides and visit Eco Caves Garden. The Mall Road is a perfect place for shopping. Look out for hand carved wax candles here. This is a local handicraft and the candles come in all sorts of shapes and sizes. We would also highly recommend breakfast and bakery items at The Sakleys, A Mountain Cafe on Mall Road.
Day 6 – Kausani Day Trip
Don’t check out from your hotel at Nainital when you start for Kausani the next morning. Kausani can be visited from Nainital and one is advised to come back the same night since there are not many lodging options in Kausani. The driving time from Nainital to Kasauni is less than 4 hours and Kausani will give you a much-needed break from the humdrum of Nainital. Start early in the morning and you can visit Neem Karouli Ashram and Katarmal Sun Temple on route to Kausani. If you love history, Katarmal Sun Temple may turn out to be a spectacular experience.
Kausani is a quaint little hamlet in Uttarakhand and would be loved by travellers who like peace and solitude. Apart from watching the valley from the binoculars from the highest point here, one must visit Gandhiji’s Anashakti Ashram in Kausani. It is a beautiful ashram cum museum displaying Gandhi memorabilia. Kausani is a perfect place to just be and not do anything. Just be one with nature and be awed by the variety of brightly coloured wild flowers. Start on your way back around sunset and you’ll be in Nainital by dinner time.
Fredy’s Bungalow – The perfect place to disconnect with the World and reconnect with nature and yourself
Another interesting alternative, is to head out of Nainital, and drive to Bhimtal, an hour away, and check into Fredy’s Bungalow – A Colonial style bungalow, for the night, surrounded by nature, which is perfect for disconnecting and reconnecting with nature. Among the many things that you can do, the best of the lot is to go hiking which also involves plenty of bird watching.
(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});
Day 7 – Nainital to Jim Corbett National Park
Jim Corbett National Park, the last destination on this 7 Day Uttarakhand Road Trip Itinerary, is barely 2 hours from Nainital and this would be your drive downhill back to the plains. Jim Corbett National Park, which also happens to be one of the Best National Parks in India, is famous for its jungle safari which happens early mornings and evenings. Most of the accommodation here are resorts, such as Aahana Resort and there are barely any standalone restaurants. It is highly advisable to pre book your jungle safari as the better zones get full very easily. If you are lucky you may see tigers in the jungle but it highly depends on which zone are you in and which month you visit Jim Corbett. Don’t focus too much on tiger sightings and enjoy the deer, nilgai, and host of birds like kingfisher that would surely come your way. The overall safari experience is beautiful.
Snippets from the Corbett Jeep Safari
Apart from jungle safari, one can go for a village tour on foot or on a bicycle that your resort may provide. Since it’s your last day in Uttarakhand we would highly recommend taking it easy and Jim Corbett is a perfect place for that. The place has a very relaxed and laid-back vibe. Being forest area travellers are not advised to venture out in the night. That is the best time to chill in a pool or rejuvenate in a spa inside the resort.
Day 8 – Back to Delhi
Start after breakfast from Jim Corbett National Park and after a 5 hours drive, you will be in Delhi with your cameras full of beautiful pictures and your hearts full of amazing memories.

Santiago: Insider Travel Guide
(CNN)Head east and in no time you’ll reach the Andes; west and you hit the beaches and coastline of the Pacific Ocean.
It’s worth putting off Chile’s other attractions a few days to get to know the best of Santiago’s culture, food and pulsing nightlife.
There’s a boomtown feel around Santiago these days. The national economy is buoyant, corruption is low and the city’s infrastructure is solid.
The past decade has seen countless bars, hotels and restaurants open. Here’s where to find the best of Santiago:
Hotels
Luxury
The Aubrey
The Aubrey exudes class — and arches — inside and out. It is made up of two 1920s mansions. Like a family home, the heart of the hotel is a large staircase.
Wide hallways come off each landing with art deco furniture, inviting you to sit back and take advantage of the constant supply of tea, coffee and fresh baked items.
The dark wood paneling is offset with block colors, printed fabrics and crystal chandeliers.
The restaurant opens onto a cobbled patio and outside there’s an outdoor swimming pool with massage jets.
The Ritz-Carlton, Santiago
In the center of the wealthy El Golf neighborhood, the 205-room Ritz Santiago delivers on the luxury and service of the well-known brand.
Among features are four restaurants serving top Chilean cuisine, a spa, more than 9,000-square-feet of meeting space, rooftop fitness center overlooking the Andes and many rooms with tourist-board views of the Santiago skyline.
Among numerous awards and recognition, Travel+Leisure picked it as a top 10 hotel in Latin and South America for 2012.
Mid-range
W Santiago
The W sits in Las Condes, the commercial part of town.
Modern and slick, rooms have full-length windows looking across the sprawling city.
There’s a feeling among many business travelers that this is the place to be.
A highlight is the roof terrace with infinity pool.
A heli-pad lets high rollers escape the city without thinking about things like traffic — that means in winter being on the slopes in 90 minutes.
Lastarria
Hotel Lastarria is a best of Santiago boutique hotel.
With just 14 rooms, it’s cozy.
The antique furniture, thick curtains and sense of elegance recall colonial times.
There’s a leafy outside area where breakfast is served in summer.
The location is great, right in the heart of the bohemian Lastarria district and surrounded by shops, cafes and art galleries.
Noi Vitacura
Lot of nice rooftops in Santiago.
Add the Noi Vitacura to the list.
Opened in July 2011, Noi Vitacura is located in the upscale Alonso de Cordoba neighborhood.
Its 88 rooms are modern, with lots of bare wood, statement art pieces and large baths.
There’s a spa, two restaurants and roof terrace with comfy lounge chairs and tables with very cool inbuilt fire pits.
Budget
Departmentos Amoblados Costa Belles Artes
Not a hotel, these furnished apartments are well maintained, centrally located and come with a helpful staff, laundry facilities and room service.
Apartments have TVs, kitchens and a clean yet homey feel.
The property is within walking distance of Palacio de la Moneda, Santa Lucia Hill and other landmarks.
A great bargain in the capital for many satisfied travelers.
Photos: 10 South American hot spots you’ll want to check out
Dining
Sukalde
In his mid-30s, Mexico City native and Sukalde owner/chef Matas Palomo calls the secret to his success a “knowledge of flavor.”
He came to Chile at age 17 and fell in love with the local cooking traditions and ingredients, which he uses to stunning effect in his Chilean fusion cuisine.
There’s lots of seafood on the menu, as well as novel creations such as organic salad with king prawn, rice paper and truffled vinaigrette.
There’s a fun drink list, too, that includes papaya and calafate sours.
Reservations recommended.
Puerto Fuy
You’ll find lots of seafood at this long-established best of Santiago award-winner.
What the restaurant describes as its “modern French” cuisine might take in anything from Patagonian hake with ratatouille and yellow tomato coullis to abalone served with a cilantro, parsley and olive oil sauce to superb grilled meats.
You’ll find a variety of restaurants along Nuevo Costanera, so if Puerto Fuy is full or the menu doesn’t appeal, you should find something nearby.
El Jardn de Epicuro
This fun, fashionable place has a nice selection of tapas (ham, seafood, cheese, tortillas, tostadas), as well as heartier grilled meats and fish.
The bar serves a variety of excellent piscos.
The warm brick-and-wood interior will make you want to hang out for a while.
Gaston Acurio
Astrid y Gastn is the Latin American chain sensation at the forefront of the upscale Peruvian cuisine movement that’s taken hold across Spain, South America and parts of North America.
Maize, potatoes and quinoa take care of the starches.
From there the cuisine might best be described as Peru-meets-the-world. Roast lamb, duck, abalone, foie gras, even shrimp-stuffed ravioli make their ways onto the menu.
Don’t be put off by the “chain” description.
Chef/co-founder Gastn Acurio is a celebrity chef often described along the lines of a Latin American Jamie Oliver and his upscale restaurant is a best of Santiago experience.
11 wine regions that fly under the radar (for now)
World’s best wine tours and trails
Nightlife
De La Ostia
There’s high energy and generally a happy crowd at this informal neighborhood favorite that does excellent sangria and pisco sours.
Fans often describe the vibe (and sangria) as more Spanish than Chilean.
The tapas are decent (calamari, tortilla with potato and chorizo), but this is mostly a place to hang out for a few rounds.
Restaurant Opera
The Opera Catedral’s upstairs restaurant is also a winner.
Of many excellent bars in Lastarria, Opera Catedral is a classy pick.
With wood paneling and wood ceiling, the medium-sized drinkery showcases a variety of live music, from DJs to torch singers.
There’s a good restaurant on the top floor.
La Piojera
This “100 percent Chileno” bar might seem rough around the edges to some, but if you’re looking for an easy authentic local experience (yes, it’s touristy, but locals come as well), this is a good place.
The big draw is the Chilean national cocktail, the “terremoto” (earthquake).
It’s intended to make you feel shaky afterward.
The terremoto is made with a sweet, fermented wine called pipeo and served with fernet alcohol and pineapple sherbet or sorbet in a large glass.
You get an “aftershock” (same drink, half the amount) following the first round.
This is without doubt a best of Santiago experience and not to be missed.
Bocanriz
This chic, modern wine bar is the place to do it.
The special flight of six Chilean wines are each paired with a light tapas.
Club La Feria
Santiago’s nightlife doesn’t get a lot of international hype, but the late-night club scene in the capital can stand toe-to-toe with any on the continent.
Club La Feria is the reigning DJ, dance and light-show champ.
It’s loud and has plenty of scenery to gawk at, but the smallish club fits only 250 people.
That means the dance floor is PACKED.
Show up before midnight and you’ll hear crickets chirping.
As at most Santiago discos, the heavy activity gets going between 2 and 3 a.m. (And ends at 5 p.m., when bars close in the city.)
World’s best cities for nightlife
Shopping/Attractions
Pueblito Los Dominicos
This cute, adobe-and-tile-roofed craft market is the place to browse and buy small gifts and souvenirs: clothes, fabrics, ceramics, paintings, furniture, carvings, glasswork, more.
A series of stalls in a small village-like setting sell crafts made by more than 150 Chilean artists.
There are relaxing outdoor cafes in the complex with coffee and empanadas.
Plaza de Armas
As in nearly all colonial South American cities, the Plaza de Armas is at the heart of the historic center.
This is the point in the capital from which all distances in Chile are measured.
Known as downtown, there’s plenty to explore, lots of points of interest and steady people watching.
The neo-classical Catedral Metropolitana has a spectacular eighteenth-century Baroque interior.
The Palacio de la Moneda is an eighteenth-century neoclassical building that serves as the presidential office.
A few blocks away (follow your nose) is Mercado Central, one of Chile’s largest fresh seafood markets.
Amid rows upon rows of stalls are restaurants, some behind smell-proof glass windows, others in the open. Either way, it’s a great place for an impromptu lunch.
La Chascona
The former home of Chile’s poet and Nobel Laureate, Pablo Neruda, quirky La Chascona is filled with odds and ends collected throughout his life that provide a glimpse into the poet’s mind.
Located in the arty district of Bellavista, it’s a 10-minute walk from the Mapocho River.
Chilean National Museum of Fine Arts
The Chilean National Museum of Fine Arts houses more than 3,000 works, making it one of the finest collections in South America.
In addition to an impressive collections of works by Chilean and Spanish artists, the museum has a comprehensive collection of Asian pieces.
It’s located in a fabulous Beaux-Arts building dating to 1910.
The museum itself was established in 1880, making it the oldest in South America and among the continent’s most important.
Chilean national Museum of Fine Arts, Parque Forestal s/n., Casilla 3209; +56 2 499 1600
Parque Metropolitano
From San Cristobal hill and Parque Metropolitano you can sometimes see clear to the Andes.
But the nearby views are worth the walk, too.
Panoramic views of the city are worth the walk up Cerro San Cristobal Hill, 300 meters above the city.
The park area is pleasant. A white statue of the Virgin Mary overlooks the city. On a clear day, the views stretch to the Andes. The park and hill are crowded on weekends.
If you don’t feel up to the walk, there’s a cable car to the top or you can grab a can or minibus.
However you manage, this is a best of Santiago landmark that shouldn’t be missed.

in & around Chiang Mai: a guide
this guide aims to provide some tips & advice around what not to miss in and around chiang mai, recommendations for thailand itineraries, bangkok and the islands. thailand is an amazing place to visit and chiang mai is a magical city. enjoy!
Pt. I - Itineraries:
If you have:
- 1 wk.- 10 days: bangkok, chiang mai, bangkok.
- 2 wks: bangkok, chiang mai, beaches, bangkok.
- 3 wks: bangkok, chiang mai, pai, sukhothai, beaches, bangkok.
- 4 wks: DO IT ALL - bangkok, chiang mai, pai, sukhothai, beaches.
Pt. II - Chiang Mai & The North
TO DO:
Highlights in the City:
Northgate Jazz Co-Op:
MUST VISIT - local spot for live jazz, rock, experimental, etc. great vibes, good drinks good and mix of tourists & locals.
Sunday Walking Street Market:
Every Sunday 3-9pm the walking street market takes place starting at Thapae Gate and running all the way down to Wat Pra Singh. Great place to buy gifts and eat some incredible Thai food (street food stalls in any of the temple complexes on the road are a win)
Old City Temples:
Walk around the old city and check out all the temples! Don’t miss:
Wat Chedi Luang
Wat Phra Singh
Doi Suthep:
Beautiful temple on a mountain overlooking the city - killer views. Easy to get to via songtaew taxi - taxis pick up at Chiang Mai University at the base of Doi Suthep mountain and run round-trip multiple times per day. Shouldn’t be more than 100 thb each way.
Rati Lanna Pool:
Hot? Hungover? Need a chill day? Hang out poolside at the Ratilanna
Get a Massage:
You won’t regret it. A couple of my favorite spas in CM:
Peak Spa
Kiyora Spa
Outside the City:
Mae Sa Waterfall and Queen Sirikit Botanical Gardens
Fantastic day trip from Chiang Mai - about 45 min drive from the city center. Easy to find on your own if you’re on a motorbike or you can hire a songtaew taxi to take you out there for the day. If driving yourself - take the Mae Rim Road out of town (107) and turn left onto the 1096 after about 40 min driving (highway sign will say botanical garden and mae sa waterfall) From the turn it’s about 5 min to the waterfall and another 10 to the botanical gardens.
Doi Saket:
drive out to doi saket for an afternoon (25 min drive from downtown chiang mai / thapae gate) - hang out at the temple, visit the big buddha on the hill and check out the doi saket hot springs.
Doi Inthanon 1-day Nature Tour
There are many tour companies in Chiang Mai that will take you to Doi Inthanon for the day. Recommend going with a tour company rather than renting a car or bike as it’s a 2 hr. drive, very uphill and you still have to pay the entrance fee if you go alone (400 baht). Recommend finding a tour that does a nature hike along the Giew Mae Pan Nature Trail which you can only do with a guide.
Bua Thong a.k.a. Sticky Waterfall
About a 90 min drive outside of Chiang Mai but worth the trip. Incredible limestone waterfalls that you can climb up and down without slipping. Popular spot on the weekends. Bring lunch and have a picnic at the top of the waterfall before climbing down. Google maps is probably your best bet for directions if driving alone, otherwise - any taxi / songtaew driver will know the place.
Pai
IF you have some extra time to kill, Pai is a great place to do it. 4-5 hour bus ride from Chiang Mai (purchase tickets day before at bus station), Pai is where everything slows down. Small town nestled in a luscious valley with lots of relaxing to be had. If you want to explore, rent a motorbike and cruise around the countryside. Don’t miss Pai Canyon and the waterfalls outside of town.
Chiang Rai:
Again, if you have extra time and want to get out of Chiang Mai for a few days - head up to Chiang Rai. 3 hr. bus ride. Don’t miss the Wat Rong Khun (a.k.a. The White Temple), check out the night market, eat dinner at Chivit Thamma Da and, if you want a comfortable place to stay in a central location (downtown, across the street from the night market) that also has a late 70s feel, check out The Wangcome Hotel.
Chiang Mai - Samoeng Loop:
I haven’t driven the whole loop personally but hear it’s rad. If you’re adventurous and comfortable driving in a foreign country, rent a car or bike and drive this 4 hour loop around Chiang Mai through beautiful mountain and forest landscapes. Find out more.
TO EAT:
Dash:
DO NOT MISS OUT ON EATING HERE THIS PLACE IS AMAZING. Usually packed, you’ll probably have to wait but so totally worth it. Close to Thapae Gate, a few blocks down on walking street side. Visit their website for address or search for it on Google maps. Same soi (street) as Top North Guesthouse - if all else fails, ask a taxi driver to take you there or ask for walking directions. Do not leave without trying the mango cheesecake no matter what you do.
Other good restaurants::
Huen Phen (ratchamanka road, behind wat chedi luang)
Sunday Walking Street Food Stalls (thapae road)
Aroon Rai (on the moat, across from thapae gate)
Dada Kafe (on the moat, across from loi kroh road)
Cafe De Nimman (siri mangkalajarn rd, nimmanhaemin)
My Secret Cafe in Town (rachadamnoen rd near wat phra singh)
THE BEST KHAO SOY EVER: this one is tough because i don’t know the name of the restaurant. it’s easy enough to find from mccormick hospital though - just cross the street and look for a sign in front that says ‘khao soy’. across from SCB bank. If you can’t find it - try khao soy lam duan which is actually on the map.
Coffee shops:
Quality coffee has been on the rise in CM for years and today, there’s tons of coffee shops around the city. Here’s a few of my fav:
Ristr8to Coffee (Nimmanhaemin rd soi 3) -creative drinks, these folks are SERIOUS about their coffee
Akha Ama - Fair Trade & delicious (Thapae Rd near Wat Phra Singh)
Doi Chaang - High quality, Fair Trade coffee from the Akha hill tribe in Doi Chaang village outside Chiang Rai with chains all over (Central Airport Plaza cafe, Nimmanhaemin)
TO DRINK:
I could spend all day listing bars in Chiang Mai and after a few hours walking around the city at night you’re certainly bound to find one or two cool spots. You can get a thai beer (chang/singha/leo) or cocktail anywhere but you can also find a glass of nice wine or an import beer if you’re willing to pay for it.
Here’s a few of my fav:
North Gate Jazz Co-Op (cannot stress this enough - a must visit)
Hotel Yayee (rooftop views and western drink prices but delicious):
You can also stay here - it’s an actual hotel
More rooftop bars in Chiang Mai
House of Wine (if you’re craving vino in thailand, this is the spot)
Riverside (imported beers, local craft brews plus live music)
THC rooftop bar (the name says it all - go here for views, reggae/electronic & to mingle with other tourists. near thapae gate)
TO SLEEP:
You can get a place to sleep in Chiang Mai for $10 USD per night if you want but these are places I’ve stayed and found to be clean & comfortable.
Budget ($15-$20 USD / night)
Kamala’s Guesthouse
Top North Guesthouse
Mid-range ($40-$50 USD / night)
Villa de Chiang Mai
Kamala’s Boutique Guesthouse
Fancy ($100+ USD / night)
Tamarind Village
Rati Lanna Hotel
Pt. III - Bangkok
Bangkok is a crazy city but worth spending at least 2 days. Stay at Vik3 hotel near Phaya Thai BTS (Bangkok Sky Train) station or Hosteling International Mid BKK near Victory Monument if you want a reasonably priced, comfortable, conveniently located place to sleep. Take the BTS whenever you can and metered taxis whenever else. Tuk tuk’s and motorbike taxis are tough on the lungs with all the pollution but fun to do once. Take a river taxi at least once.
Don’t miss:
Chatuchak weekend market
THIS PLACE IS HUGE AND HAS LITERALLY EVERYTHING YOU COULD EVER WANT TO BUY.
Wat Pho (reclining buddha)
Wat Arun (temple of dawn)
Royal Grand Palace
Pt. IV - The Beach
You can’t really go wrong with any of the beaches/islands in Thailand in my opinion - I mean it’s white sand, crystal clear waters and palm trees. What’s not to love? That said, I do have a few particularly special places I’d recommend:
Railay Beach (Krabi):
Stay at Railay Beach Club if you want to splurge - $100/night but totally worth it for your own private house.
Spend an afternoon/evening on the water with Krabi Sunset Cruise - this day trip from Railay Beach is awesome, highlights including jumping off the top of their old chinese junk boat and swimming with bio-luminescent plankton.
Koh Phangan (skip the full moon party though)
Koh Chang
Koh Tao
