Porch weather is almost here! . . I keep saying that but what’s up with this record breaking heat? 🥵 . . Today is the last day of excessive heat here in the South! (HOPEFULLY) 🤞🤞 . . Mock-ups, porch edition

After mocking up and evaluating the living room, we mocked up the porch. The plans we have left porches or the correct depth, but we still felt they left something to be desired. 

Yes we did name all our schemes after presidents, but let’s not get political about it. 

In FDR we liked the additional storage in the kitchen, but the porch is a very long and narrow. 

In Teddy, the interior public relationship is different, but the porch is approaching what we lovingly call a carport dimension. 

In Ulysses, our current team favorite, the porch could potentially be too small and dark. 

We did some mock-ups of the porch, learning that the Roosevelt schemes porches would need to be visually shrunk and defined by columns or rails, and the Ulysses porch could easily feel like a stoop and not a porch.

The FDR scheme, the porch is actually to large to fit onto the great hall. 

Although the columns were precarious, they helped to define the edges of the porch. 

The Ulysses porch was much smaller and felt more like another room on the house it was so protected. We did not conclude whether or not this was a bad attribute. It is roughly the size of Mac’s 20K home porch, which functions as a great social porch because of the steps.

Our home might be slab on grade, which we fear would make the porch seem only like a threshold and not a place to socialize. 

We then started testing materials for the exterior of the home.

Weekday breakfast pretty as a picture - goodness knows I love my carbs! It’s comfortable in the shade of a massive spruce but it’s going to be another scorcher despite summer storms predicted. Forklore in the Southern US has it that in order to keep unwanted spirits away from your home the ceilings of the porch, doors or trim may be painted “haint” blue.  The traditions carries on today as seen in the photos of these recently built homes in South Carolina.
