Meghan Markle made a very important solo trip last month: She was back on U.S. soil without Prince Harry to celebrate their imminent addition to the royal family.

The location was New York City, where several of Markle’s closest friends joined her for a special baby shower on Feb. 20. Celebrities such as Serena Williams, Abigail Spencer, Amal Clooney and Gayle King attended the party.

Here’s what we know so far about the star-studded event in honor of the glowing mom-to-be:

Meghan Arrives In NYC The Duchess of Sussex arrived in New York City in style, dressed in a William Vintage Courrèges Haute Couture black trapeze coat and dark sunglasses. She was snapped — with a protective hand on her growing baby bump — outside her hotel on Feb. 19 with her friend and fellow “Suits” star Abigail Spencer, who wore a long red patterned dress and a black blazer. The baby shower wasn’t until the following day, giving the duchess time to relax and spend some time in the city.

Designer Arm-Candy The Duchess of Sussex accessorized her look with a classic tote by Carolina Herrera. Markle is a long-time fan of the Venezuelan fashion designer, who has dressed various First Ladies in her time, including Jacqueline Onassis, Laura Bush and Michelle Obama. Markle wore a pink off-shoulder Carolina Herrera dress for her first appearance at Trooping the Colour, the Queen’s annual birthday parade, in June 2018. The following month, she wore a navy fit-and-flare Carolina Herrera dress for a polo match in Windsor in aid of Prince Harry’s charity, Sentebele.

A Chic Venue Markle’s home for her New York City stay was The Mark, the stylish Upper East Side hotel, in the heart of Manhattan. It’s a top choice for fashion editors during New York fashion week, and where many celebrities get glammed up for the Met Gala. The baby shower was held in the penthouse, according to reports . At 12,000-square-foot across two floors, it’s the largest hotel suite in the United States. It’s also the most expensive, costing $75,000 per night.

Lunch And Art After lunch, Markle and Spencer went to The Met Breuer to take in some contemporary art. There are no pictures of Markle inside the museum, proving that even a Duchess — in the age of smartphones, no less — can go incognito when she really wants to. The Met Breuer opened in March 2016 in the building formerly occupied by the Whitney Museum of American Art, which was designed by Marcel Breuer and completed in 1966. It features monographic and thematic artworks from the Met’s collection.

Dinner With Friends The evening before the baby shower, Markle went out to dinner with her close friends, including tennis champ Serena Williams and Markus Anderson, a consultant for Soho House, an elite members-only club with locations around the world.

Anderson met Markle in 2012 when he returned home to Toronto, where the future Duchess was living during the filming of “Suits.” Since then, they have been firm friends; Anderson was pictured by Markle’s side when she attended the 2017 Invictus Games. Markle once wrote of Anderson on her now-defunct Instagram account, “What would I do without you, my loving, supportive, and endlessly fun friend??”

Wrapped Up Warm Markle wore a navy Victoria Beckham coat and Hatch maternity jeans for her dinner date at Polo Bar, completing the look with velvet Tamara Mellon boots and a black Stella McCartney bag. On Christmas Day 2018, Markle wore head-to-toe Beckham: a calf-length navy dress, matching coat, knee-high boots and a statement handbag. Markle and Beckham have reportedly struck up a close friendship — Beckham and her husband David attended Markle’s wedding to Prince Harry in May 2018 — but the former Spice Girl wasn’t present at the baby shower.

Serena Williams Played Host According to Harper’s Bazaar, the “low-key” shower was hosted by Serena Williams and Genevieve Hillis , a friend of Markle’s from her college days. The hosts had a little professional help in the form of Jennifer Zabinski of JZ Events, who planned Williams’ 2017 wedding to Alexis Ohanian.

The duchess has been friends with tennis star Williams since 2010, when they met at the Super Bowl. Markle once wrote of Williams on her former lifestyle website, The Tig , “She quickly became a confidante I would text when I was traveling, the friend I would rally around for her tennis matches, and the down-to-earth chick I was able to grab lunch with a couple of weeks ago in Toronto.”

Abigail Spencer Came Prepared Spencer was photographed arriving at The Mark on the day of the baby shower with a suitcase and a bulging bag — with gifts for the mom-to-be, perhaps? Spencer began her acting career playing Rebecca Tyree on the ABC daytime television soap opera “All My Children” and also starred in the Lifetime crime drama series “Angela’s Eyes” before getting the part of Dana “Scottie” Scott in “Suits,” where she struck up a friendship with her co-star Markle . Spencer even contributed to Markle’s now-discontinued lifestyle blog, The Tig.

Amal Clooney Joined The Party Amal Clooney, who attended Prince Harry and Markle’s 2018 wedding , was spotted at the baby shower in a red silk Sergio Hudson jumpsuit and Gianvito Rossi gold-and-PVC pumps. Clooney and Markle are said to have become close friends since last fall, with Clooney helping Markle settle into London life. Recently, Clooney’s husband, George, came to Markle’s defense , comparing the constant attention on Meghan to the circus that surrounded Prince Harry’s mother, Princess Diana.

Markle’s Makeup Artist Was There Makeup artist Daniel Martin has been friends with Markle since her “Suits” days, and his other A-list clients include Jessica Alba, Jessica Biel, Chrissy Teigen and Elisabeth Moss.

“I’m really lucky and blessed to work with these incredible women — it’s up to me to capture the essence of their personality,” he told Vogue .

Wedding Makeup Throwback Martin made headlines in 2018 when he was revealed as Markle’s makeup artist for her wedding to Prince Harry. The fresh, dewy, natural look he created for Markle on the day – which didn’t disguise her freckles — was a huge hit with audiences and beauty editors alike.

“Because we’ve known each other for so long and I knew exactly what she wanted, it was kind of a no-brainer,” he told Vogue . Martin occasionally treats fans to a sneak peek into life with his royal friend; last month, he shared a photo on Instagram of tea and avocado on toast that the duchess had prepared for him.

Misha Nonoo Attended Fashion designer and Markle’s close friend Misha Nonoo also attended the celebration. She is believed to be responsible for introducing Prince Harry to Markle in July 2016. Mulroney was named as Markle’s unofficial wedding planner after she flew to London in late April 2018 to help her friend finalize her plans. Mulroney’s daughter Ivy, 4, was a bridesmaid at the royal wedding, while her 7-year-old twin sons Brian and John were page boys. Aside from her royal connection, Mulroney is best known for dressing Sophie Gregoire-Trudeau, the wife of Canada’s prime minister.

Priyanka Chopra Was A No-Show Initial reports claimed Priyanka Chopra attended the shower, but sources have said that the newlywed actress couldn’t leave Los Angeles due to work commitments related to a book she’s writing. Markle and Chopra have been friends for a couple years. They have a shared interest in humanitarian issues; Chopra is a UNICEF global goodwill ambassador, while Markle has worked with organizations like World Vision and One Young World.

Taryn Toomey Was There Markle has often spoken of her dedication to fitness, so it’s no surprise that wellness guru Taryn Toomey was on the baby shower guest list. Toomey, who counts Jennifer Aniston and Naomi Watts among her clients, is the founder of the Class, a fusion of cardio, yoga and kickboxing. Markle has credited pilates, yoga and running with keeping her fit, telling Women’s Health , “Running has always been my form of moving meditation, which I relish because it allows me to get out of my head.”

Gifts Galore It’s not known whether Markles registered for gifts for her baby shower, but she and Prince Harry certainly have plenty to open back in London. Large packages were spotted being loaded into vehicles outside The Mark following the celebration. A royal expert shed some light on the type of gifts Markle might have received , saying “Sometimes, they may be baby-related and other times, friends and guests give something to the mother-to-be, such as aromatherapy oil for a bit of pampering or cashmere socks for being in labor and just being comfy!”

Convertible Crib From Babyletto Among the items spotted outside Markle’s hotel was a box containing a crib from Babyletto. The three-in-one Hudson crib is a convertible crib/toddler bed/daybed, and according to the Babyletto website , it features “stylish rounded spindles and an open modern silhouette” and is “made with eco-friendly, non-toxic materials.” At the time of publication, the Hudson crib was still available to buy from Amazon , where it retails at $379. With all the interest around the royal mom-to-be, however, it might sell out soon.

DIY Flowers For Markle and Prince Harry’s wedding, the flower arrangements included sweet peas, lilies of the valley, astilbe, jasmine, astrantia and Princess Diana’s favorite, forget-me-nots. Flowers delivered for the baby shower were much more colorful, including yellow daffodils, bright purple blooms and Meghan’s personal favorite, pink peonies. King revealed that the guests were invited to try their hand at flower-arranging, saying on CBS This Morning , “They did flower decorations. They had flower arranging, they brought in somebody to explain how to arrange flowers.”

A Sleek Modern Venue Without photographs from the baby shower itself, Markle fans are left to imagine the celebration for themselves. Images of the interior of The Mark help set the scene. The lobby has a glossy monochrome floor and futuristic design features. Sources say the hosts chose this elegant hotel after considering several other venues in the area. Williams often dines at Jean-Georges, the hotel’s in-house restaurant, but she is not believed to have stayed at the hotel before. It’s also been reported that Williams picked up the bill for the whole thing.

Penthouse Vibes Sources say The duchess’s shower was held in The Mark’s two-floor penthouse suite, which features five bedrooms, six bathrooms and two powder rooms.

Room With A View The penthouse suite has amazing views over Central Park and the Metropolitan Museum of Art. However, the weather on the day of Markle’s baby shower may not have been suitable for al fresco relaxation. It was snowing!

Mom Doria Wasn’t There Doria Ragland missed her daughter’s shower, remaining in California, where she was photographed walking her dog and running errands. However, the grandparent-to-be may have plenty of time with Markle and her baby following the birth, as she is rumored to be moving to London to ensure Markle has her hands-on help with the new arrival. Markle and Ragland made a public appearance in September 2018 to promote Markle’s cookbook, “Together,” and cook coconut chicken curry, aubergine masala and chapatis together.

Where Was Kate Middleton? Kate was absent from the baby shower for her future niece or nephew, but she had a good reason; she and her family were on vacation. It’s Prince George and Princess Charlotte’s half-term break from school, and it’s believed that the Cambridges, including baby Prince Louis , are enjoying a ski trip away from the spotlight. It has been reported that Markle will have another baby shower in the U.K., which is expected to be more of a family affair, with her sister-in-law Kate and mother by her side.

Pregnant In The Public Eye Before her baby shower, the last time Markle was photographed in public was on Feb. 12, when she joined Prince Harry at the Natural History Museum in London for a gala performance of The Wider Earth in support of the Queen’s Commonwealth Trust and the Her Majesty’s Commonwealth Canopy project. For this special occasion, Markle wore a glamorous all-white ensemble, including a high-neck Calvin Klein dress and an Amanda Wakeley coat, accessorized with an olive-green Ralph Lauren clutch and shoes. It’s likely that Markle will now begin to scale down her public appearances as she prepares for the arrival of her first child.

Prince Harry Couldn’t Make It Prince Harry didn’t attend the baby shower as he had an important royal engagement in London , He spent the day visiting school children at Streatham Youth Center in South London to support the StreetGames Fit and Fed initiative, which aims to provide healthy food and free physical activities to kids during school holidays. The following day, the Duke of Sussex visited the Royal Marines to present newly-qualified recruits with green berets when they finished their final commando test.

Countdown To The Royal Baby While the palace has only said that the baby is due in Spring of 2019, Markle apparently told some members of the public during a visit to Birkenhead in January that the baby’s due date is sometime around April . Emily Nash, a Hello! editor, tweeted the news, writing, “Meghan has told wellwishers in Birkenhead that she is six months pregnant — due end of April/beginning of May! Lots of baby chat today!”

It’s up to Markle how much maternity leave she takes, but like sister-in-law Kate, she will return to her royal duties only when she feels ready. Kate had two months of maternity leave after the birth of her first child, George, but took six months off following the arrival of Princess Charlotte and then a further seven months off when Prince Louis was born in April 2018.

Going Home To Prince Harry After the baby shower, Markle was photographed leaving The Mark in a far more casual outfit than her earlier ensembles. She was dressed for the journey home to the U.K. with comfort in mind, wearing Adidas sneakers, leggings, a zip-up top and a Rectify baseball cap, and carrying a giant tote bag. Markle is now back in London, no doubt preparing for her next royal engagement, a short trip to Morocco with Prince Harry, starting on Feb. 24.

We Know There Were Cookies After the baby shower, Markle’s friend Daniel Martin couldn’t resist sharing a picture of the sweet treats enjoyed by the guests: cookies in the shape of a baby rattle, a stork and a bib. Martin posted the image on his Instagram page with the simple caption, “Such an incredible day celebrating #babylove.”

The Baby Shower That Gave Back Markle’s star-studded baby shower wasn’t just about celebrating. A New York charity called Repeat Roses, which recycles flowers to reduce waste and raise awareness of social issues, received the flower arrangements created by Markle and her guests at the lesson led by local company Lewis Miller Design.

According to Gayle King, it was Markle herself who requested that the arrangements be donated to the charity, which passes flowers onto facilities like hospitals, hospices, nursing homes, cancer treatment centers and domestic abuse and homeless shelters.

“I thought that was a very sweet thing,” King said on CBS This Morning. “It just speaks to who [Markle] is. She’s kind, she’s very generous. And a really, really sweet person.” Here’s an example of Lewis Miller Design’s work:

Meghan Markle's Royal Wedding Dress: Everything We Know So Far!

Are you ready for Meghan Markle's sure-to-be iconic royal wedding dress?

The 36-year-old actress is set to marry Prince Harry on May 19 at St. George's Chapel at Windsor Castle, which means we're less than a month away from seeing the most highly anticipated fashion choice of the year. Given Meghan's amazing styles so far, royal fans definitely won't be disappointed.

Not surprisingly, details on the dress have been top secret.

"I expect that Meghan will go to great lengths to keep her wedding dress designer a secret until the moment that she emerges from the bridal car,” ET’s royal expert Katie Nicholl told ET in March. “Let's be honest, this is a girl who knows how to keep a secret. She and Harry kept their romance clandestine for months, so she knows how to stay tight-lipped… There's going to be so much attention on the dress. She's like every other bride in that respect, she wants to keep it a secret up until the last minute.”

But of course, there have been plenty of indicators when it comes to Meghan's fashion tastes. Let's review everything we know so far about the wedding dress that will be seen around the world.

The Designer:

Frontrunners for Meghan's dress include fashion house Erdem, after the label took its U.K. and international PR in-house earlier this month, prompting some to wonder if they were getting ahead of a huge news story.

Meghan is also no stranger to Erdem. The actress wore a tropical print maxi dress from the label when she and Harry attended a wedding in Jamaica last year. Lead designer Erdem Moralıoğlu is also Canadian-born -- though the label is based in London -- which could be a sweet nod to Meghan's home country prior to her move to the United Kingdom.

Another name floating aroud is Ralph & Russo, after Meghan wore a show-shopping sheer black gown by the designer for her much talked-about engagement photos with Harry.

Alexander McQueen's name has also been in the mix. Kate Middleton's 2011 wedding dress was designed by Sarah Burton, the British designer at the helm of Alexander McQueen.

In February, Harper's Bazaar reported that so many people were betting that the McQueen label will be the designer of Meghan's dress that there was possibly a confidential information leak.

Nicholl offered ET yet another option, which could help endear Meghan to Harry’s grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II.

“There's a lot of speculation that she might be going for Stewart Parvin, who is one one of the queen's favorite couturiers,” she noted. “It would be fabulous for her to fly the flag for British fashion, but we will have to wait and see. And I think we'll probably have to wait until the day.”

Silhouette:

Judging from Meghan's bombshell Ralph & Russo engagement dress, we know the actress has no problem going for a bold style. In March, ET spoke with celebrity designer Mark Zunino -- who's friends with Meghan's close pal, Jessica Mulroney, (who helped pick out her wedding designer in January) -- and he offered insight into Meghan's bridal style.

"[Mulroney] loves fashion and she loves cutting-edge fashion, and I think I can see [with] Meghan, that excites her as well," Zunino said. "You know how fashion girls are, you can't let it go, it's a part of who you are! I think Meghan's like that. I think Jessica feeds that."

If her character, Rachel Zane, on Suits is any indication, her wedding dress will certainly be romantic and stunning. Meghan's character wore a princess-line Versailles wedding gown accentuated by a full floor-length tulle skirt by Anne Barge during the season finale of Suits, when she got married to Mike Ross (played by Patrick J. Adams).

But in Meghan's real-life style, she prefers more tailored silhouettes, often opting for chic sheath dresses and flattering pencil skirts. In a 2016 interview with Glamour, Meghan said her favorite celebrity wedding dress of all time was the late Carolyn Bessette Kennedy's iconic Narciso Rodriguez design when she married John F. Kennedy Jr. in 1996, which Meghan described as "everything goals."

"I have the luxury of wearing beautiful pieces of clothing every day for work, so my personal style -- wedding or not -- is very pared down and relaxed," Meghan told Glamour. "Classic and simple is the name of the game, perhaps with a modern twist. I personally prefer wedding dresses that are whimsical or subtly romantic. Delphine Manivet and Christos Costarellos are faves of mine for their uniqueness and beauty. And I will always be a fan of Elie Saab. J. Mendel is spectacular as well, especially for more structural designs."

Nicholl told ET in March that Meghan will make sure to "tick all the right boxes: traditional, elegant, sophisticated, memorable, and fitting" when it comes to her dress.

“I'm told that she wants something with lace, that she wants something with sleeves,” Nicholl said. “Of course she's dressing for the rather inclement British weather, but more than that she's dressing for a very, very important occasion. So I think you will be probably pleasantly surprised for Meghan the ‘rule breaker’ when it comes to this dress.”

"I think she will definitely kind of push the envelope, but I think she'll be definitely respectful to the royal family and, you know, to the U.K. in general," Zunino also weighed in to ET. "Nothing will be too exposed. I think she might go a little more form-fitted. She'll still make the grandness of something, you know, embellished sleeves or a big flounce or something for the magnitude of the cathedral, but I think she's going to go a little, you know, sexier in not an obvious way. I think she's gonna redefine princess."

The Cost:

Nicholl told ET that Meghan doesn't want to upstage her future sister-in-law Kate's memorable, long-sleeve Alexander McQueen wedding dress, which cost a whopping $434,000.

“There have been reports that [Meghan’s] considering spending hundreds of thousands of pounds on a wedding dress. I think that’s incredibly unlikely,” Nicholl mused. “Kate Middleton's dress cost 150,000 pounds. It was her parents, Carol and Michael Middleton, who paid for that bill. I think it was very unlikely that Meghan would spend more than that and in doing so try and upstage a future queen.”

“I think Meghan is very sensible,” she added. “She understands what the perception will be of this gown. I don’t think she's going to want to get royal life off to a start where she's criticized for spending something like 400,000 pounds on a wedding dress. I just dont think it will happen.”

Still, Zunino estimates that the dress will cost "at least $100,000 or more."

"You know, [it will cost] $100,000 to $300,000, because she's going to showcase everyone: herself, her family, his family, the country, our country, Canada. She's representing everything," he explained.

Her First Wedding Dress:

Meghan clearly likes to keep things simple.

The actress married producer Trevor Engelson back in 2011 on a beach in Jamaica wearing a bohemian-style strapless dress. The no-frills choice featured an embellished belt, but no intricate lace or train.

How Many Dresses:

According to Vanity Fair, the bride-to-be will have not one, but two royal wedding dresses.

Sources close to the former Suits star reportedly told the outlet that both dresses will be custom-made. The first is "an elaborate yet traditional bridal gown" for the ceremony and reception, and the second is "a glamorous, more sophisticated" gown she'll change into for the evening to "party the night away" with less restriction.

"This wedding will be one of the biggest events of the year, so why not celebrate it with as many fabulous gowns as possible," wedding dress designer Caroline Castigliano told the magazine. "I am fully expecting this wedding to follow the same format as Kate [Middleton]’s, with a wedding gown for the day and an evening gown, too."

Who's Helping Her:

In January, a sourcetold ET that Meghan had her first fitting for her wedding dress at Kensington Palace with Mulroney, who flew in from Toronto to help her friend with wedding planning. Mulroney is a top stylist, her high-profile clients including Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's wife, Sophie Grégoire Trudeau.

She also regularly helps brides-to-be say "yes" to the dress (and "#YesToTheJess") as a consultant for the Canadian outpost of Kleinfeld’s, a popular New York-based bridal boutique.

The close friends already worked together when they picked out her Suits character, Rachel's, wedding dress.

Hair & Makeup:

ET has learned that Meghan is expected to use hairstylist Miguel Perez, who is Amal Clooney's go-to London hairdresser, for her wedding day.

"Yes, I do Meghan's hair," Miguel reportedly told The Mail last week. "I do Amal's, and Meghan is friends with her. I also do George [Clooney]'s, I do the whole family. Amal put Meghan and me together when she moved here [to London]. I do her color, her cut and her styling."

Perez said he and Meghan have already discussed her all-important wedding 'do.

"We have talked about it [the wedding] and we have a plan," he said. "I can't say any more, but we know what we're doing."

Though Meghan is a big fan of keeping her hair down or rocking a messy bun, the brunette beauty also looked gorgeous rocking a classic wedding updo as her Suits character, Rachel.

As for her makeup, don't expect anything to be caked on. ET recently spoke with one of her former makeup artists, Spencer Barnes, who opened up about Meghan's beauty philosophy.

"I don't think she's a person who naturally wants or needs or feels like she has to put on a lot," Barnes said. "She's softly defined, and that's when she shines her brightest and looks her best. When you're seeing freckles, and you're seeing some of the natural qualities of skin, it's a good indicator that there's very little on there!"

"She loves beautiful skin, to start with, and she has the most gorgeous complexion," he added. "It's that soft caramel. Her mixed heritage makes her an exotic beauty of beauties. "Whenever I'd work with her, she'd like to highlight her fresh, radiant skin," he shared. "We'd do a very glowing, fresh-faced skin. We'd use earthy tones, colors that enhanced her natural beauty, rather than a lot of obvious color choices, like purple, green or blue. We'd stick with earthy tones -- peaches, golds, browns -- a lot of rich, warm tones and that really flattered her. It helped her just look radiant and fresh."

Harper’s Weekly ran this illustration of the first Buckner’s Trestle train crash in its March 19, 1870 edition.

The first time I read about old Buckner’s Trestle south of town, and the two tragedies that happened there some 58 years apart, I was kind of miffed at never having heard of the trestle before. In January of 2015, Michael Newson with the Ole Miss News Blog put together an excellent article on this long forgotten part of history that stunned the town, county and campus… twice. Although the story has been written from New York in 1870 to Ole Miss in 2015, I wanted to see if there was a living local connection.

I’m a baby boomer who had to ask a millennial what a millennial was. A practical education in millennial lingo ensued, and I was titled as a good “crowd gatherer” on Facebook. As the number of people following the daily posts on the page rose and rose, I learned to never say “die” when it came to ID’ing people and uncovering more history. So, I posted two photos on Buckner’s Trestle and now the stories from New York and Ole Miss have a few more paragraphs from HottyToddy.com to be added.

Here is Michael Newsom’s article followed by noted Ole Miss alum and Taylor, Mississippi, Plein Air developer Campbell McCool’s family connection to Buckner’s Trestle, with a colorful look into the history of Hemingway Stadium as a silver lining:

The tree-lined Thacker Mountain Rail Trail that starts near the south end of Chucky Mullins Drive is a popular spot for hikers, cyclers and others who want to explore the 2.8-mile path.

But many don’t realize the tranquil path where UM’s cross country teams and campus ROTC groups sometimes run crosses Buckner’s Trestle, the site of two long-forgotten railway tragedies. In 1870, 20 people were killed in a crash there and another in 1928 injured many passengers, several whom were UM students and faculty members.

Buckner’s Trestle was a 100-foot-long railroad bridge that stood 50 feet high. The Mississippi Central Railroad built it in the late 1850s, but it’s no longer there. I walked by the Buckner’s Trestle crash site, and the Mississippi Department of Archives and History marker there, during a recent trip to the Thacker Mountain Rail Trail and decided to research it.

Not much can be found in online news articles about the more recent Buckner’s Trestle crash, which had no fatalities, but did injure more than 40 on June 10, 1928. The MDAH marker there says the No. 34 train, called “Bilbo,” was heading north to Oxford from Water Valley. When the engine crossed the trestle, the timber, which heavy rains had loosened from the earth, shifted and gave way. The train wrecked, injuring 42 passengers, including several UM faculty and students.

But the tragic Feb. 25, 1870 crash there made national news.

That day, the 3 p.m. mail train left Oxford bound for Water Valley. The engine, a baggage car, a mail car and the first passenger car made it across the trestle, but rotten ties gave way. The bridge collapsed and the trailing cars tumbled into a ravine. Twenty passengers were killed and 60 were injured. The crash was described in rich detail in Harper’s Weekly and also in The New York Times, as well as some regional newspapers.

J.W. Simonton wrote a vivid account of the crash for the New Orleans Picayune that ran in several U.S. newspapers.

Colonel Sam Tate, president of the Mississippi Central Railroad Company, was standing in the aisle of the rear car when the disaster happened, and was violently precipitated to the lower end of the coach, where he was nearly suffocated before the pile of wounded, confused and stunned passengers that were thrown upon him could be removed; but it is believed that he will sustain no permanent injury.

Some of the names could not be had. Two infants were among the number. One of these was taken from under the wreck, clasped with a death grasp to the bosom of its mother, who was also dead. Two colored brakemen were killed at their posts. One of these must have been thrown from the rear platform of the rear car, for he was found face down upon the roof of the coach lying in the ravine, his throat cut as if by a stout splinter.

The anguish of surviving friends of the killed and wounded was pitiable to behold. A husband, wild with grief at the loss of his wife, suddenly snatched from his side by death, just when he had nearly arrived at the home in the new world, which he had crossed the ocean to find, drew tears from eyes not used to weeping. The young girl, Abby Elliott, on her way to New Orleans, exhibited wonderful fortitude. She was in the rear of the middle passenger car conversing with several acquaintances, the life of the little circle surrounding her, when the crash came. In an instant the notes of mirth and frolic were turned to cries of anguish and lamentation. But Abby never lost her presence of mind for a moment. By her side lay several of the horribly mangled dead. Fortunately, no part of the wreck had struck her a deadly blow. Bruised she was, and stunned but no bone was broken. Her left hand rested upon the stiffening limb of one of the companions with whom she had been in gay conversation a minute before, and there it was held in a vice like grasp by a timber of the lower end of the rear passenger car. Otherwise she was free. Calling for help she stated her situation, and gave direction for her own relief. For an hour she lay there, exhibiting a patience and courage that were heroic. At last the timber was sawn asunder, her hand was released and she was carried away, piteously inquisting of those who were assisting her whether she was so hurt that she count not hope to be a future help to her “poor mother.” –Ole Miss News Blog

Today, south of Oxford in Taylor, Campbell McCool works not too far from where his family connection to Bucker’s Trestle was made:

My great grandfather, Dean Bell – Dean of School of Business and Commerce at Ole Miss – was on board the 1928 train. He was an Ole Miss legend and taught for almost 50 years. Bell started the School of Commerce from scratch and served as its Dean for some 25 years after that. He was offered very prestigious positions at Columbia and the University of Chicago, but would never leave Ole Miss.

His wife, Sophie, was from Water Valley and they would frequently catch the Bilbo to see her family. He was thrown from the train and basically broke his back, but lived. He spent the next few years recovering, but kept on teaching. I have a bunch of his letters where he talks about the wreck.

In addition to his academic duties, Dean Bell was Chair of the Athletic Committee when the subject of building a “new concrete football stadium” arose. He objected to the cost – $1 million. Said he could not agree to it at this outrageous price. He eventually acquiesced, but wrote letters to his friend on the IHL board confused over why it was to be named after Judge Hemingway. I’ve got a great series of correspondence in hand written form over the debate over whether we needed this concrete football stadium.

While I am proud of my ancestor’s serious role and contributions to the University of Mississippi, I also appreciate his lighter side. He stated on more than one occasion that he “never failed an Ole Miss football player or a pretty girl.” –Campbell McCool

Not only did Priyanka Chopra make a stylish appearance at Prince Harry and Meghan Markle‘s royal wedding on May 19, but she also took to Instagram to gush about her bestie’s big day. “Every once in a while there is a moment when time stands still … that happened today,” she wrote. “You my friend were the epitome of grace, love and beauty.”

But sadly, the duchess won’t be able to do the same for her close friend when she marries Nick Jonas on Sunday (Dec. 2) in Jodhpur, India.

“There are no plans” for the expecting couple to make the trip, according to sources who spoke to Harper’s Bazaar . “The couple was invited to all of the celebrations in India but given how much travel would be involved for Meghan, who’s now five months pregnant, they decided against it.”

The Duchess of Sussex is surely disappointed to miss Priyanka’s big day, for which preparations are well underway! Priyanka and the “Jealous” singer are set to wed at heritage hotel Taj Umaid Bhawan Palace. Although the guestlist is a big secret, Nick’s brother, Joe Jonas, and his wife, Game of Thrones star Sophie Turner, are already there and deep in the celebrations. In the week leading up to their nuptials, the couple and their families and friends have been enjoying each other’s company in Priyanka’s home country.

Priyanka and Meghan’s friendship dates back to the former Suits star’s pre-Harry days, having first met at ELLE’s Women in Television dinner a few years ago and remained close ever since. Despite being oceans apart, their bond shows every time Priyanka opens up about her love for the duchess. “She’s an icon, truly, that girls can look up to, that women can look up to. She’s normal, she’s sweet, she’s nice, she thinks about the world, wants to change it and this was even before any of this happened,” Priyanka told the Harper’s Bazaar Arabia in January. And they still find time to catch up! Back in July, the Sussexes reportedly hosted the Quantico star and her fiancé at their Cotswolds country home.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's Royal Wedding: All the Famous Guests to Expect

Royal wedding fever is well underway, as we're less than two months away from Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's nuptials!

The lovebirds are set to tie the knot on May 19, with approximately 600 guests invited to attend the service at St. George's Chapel in Windsor Castle, along with a lunchtime reception hosted by Queen Elizabeth II.

The ceremony is expected to be a more intimate affair than Harry's brother, Prince William's, 2011 nuptials to Kate Middleton. Considering both Harry and Meghan have a myriad of famous pals, we're hoping to see a few familiar faces.

Kensington Palace revealed on Thursday that the invitations were officially sent out, issued in the name of His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales. Approximately 200 guests have also been invited to the reception at Frogmore House, which will take place later in the evening and be hosted by Prince Charles. As we patiently await for what's sure to be the most regal event of the year, let's take a look at all the celebs who most likely scored an invite!

The Spice Girls

When Mel B. was a guest on The Real last month, she dropped a huge hint that the Spice Girls may not only be attending the royal wedding, but potentially performing! She first confirmed that all five of the girls had been an invited with a "proper" invitation, and then threw her cards in the air when asked if they would also be taking the stage. "I'm going to be fired," she joked.

However, according to an interview Mel C. gave to The Sun earlier this month, she had yet to receive an invitation in the mail. "I’ve met Prince Charles lots of times. I’m going to ask him where my invite is because I haven’t got mine yet, obviously Mel B said she has hers," she said at the time. "I think Mel was just kind of having a bit of a joke. There are no plans to go to the wedding at the moment."

Well, guess we'll find out soon, Sporty!

If Victoria Beckham is invited along with the other Spice Girls, we can almost guarantee that David will be there, too! Plus, he and Harry have developed a close friendship over the years. David and Victoria were both guests at William and Kate's 2011 wedding, and Harry and David have been spotted out together socially quite a few times since. In 2012, the former soccer star told Esquire that he has a “very normal relationship” with William and Harry, and that the young royals were “very easy to get along with."

Additionally, Victoria was awarded an OBE (Officer of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire) by Prince William for her contributions in fashion and her charity work last April.

Last month, Elton John rescheduled the concerts that were planned the same weekend as Harry and Meghan's nuptials, which caused many fans to speculate that the iconic singer may be making an appearance at the royal wedding. ET asked Elton at this year's GRAMMYs if he would be attending and/or performing at the highly anticipated ceremony. "I have no idea. No one's been invited yet," Elton said at the time, as his husband, David Furnish, added, "Crossing our fingers!"

In an earlier interview with ITV's Lorraine, Elton -- who was friends with Harry's late mother, Princess Diana -- opened up about the 33-year-old prince's engagement. "I spent some time with him at Google camp in Sicily last summer, and I could tell that he was totally in love," he gushed. "And I thought, 'Good for you.' When people get married, you want it to last. You want them to be happy. I'm happy for him. I hope they have a wonderful day."

There's been a lot of question over whether "Fergie" will score an invite. A source told ET in February, however, that Meghan and Harry are planning to include the Duchess of York in wedding activities, despite her rocky relationship with the royal family after her divorce from Prince Andrew in 1996.

Though Meghan wasn't present at Serena Williams' fairy tale New Orleans wedding to Alexis Ohanian, the two are still good friends. In September 2016, Meghan shared a cute photo of the two at New York Fashion Week, when she came out to support Serena's show for HSN. "My eyes are closed but my heart is so open!" she captioned the snap. "So proud of your new collection @serenawilliams. Happy I could be there to support you xx #NYFW."

Meghan and Serena have been friends since at least January 2015, when Meghan tweeted a photo of them hugging after Serena's win at the US Open. In her now-deleted blog, The Tig, Meghan once gushed about being friends with the tennis legend.

"She quickly became a confidante I would text when I was traveling, the friend I would rally around for her tennis matches, and the down to earth chick I was able to grab lunch with just a couple weeks ago in Toronto," she wrote.

Meghan is also good friends with actress Priyanka Chopra. Meghan once Instagrammed the two attending a Hamilton performance together in New York City, and Priyanka previously posted a picture of her and Meghan having a girls' night out with filmmaker Mubina Rattonsey in Los Angeles.

When ET spoke to Priyanka in December 2016, she said she would definitely attend the royal wedding. "Listen, I love Buckingham Palace, so if the Queen invites me, I'm there," she joked.

Earlier this year, the Quantico star played coy when asked about her pal's bridal party in an interview with Harper's Bazaar Arabia, "If you see me there, you'll know," she teased.

Although she couldn't give the outlet too many details about Markle's upcoming nuptials, she did give her friend credit for how she's handled all the recent attention. "I don't think anybody else would be able to do it the way she will. She’s just right for it," Priyanka exclaimed. "She's an icon, truly, that girls can look up to, that women can look up to. She's normal, she's sweet, she's nice, she thinks about the world, wants to change it and this was even before any of this happened."

"So, I do think Meghan being a part of the royal family is a big step in the direction of so many things; of women, of feminism, of diversity, of race, of the monarchy versus everyone else," she added. "It's a beautiful step in the right direction."

It's no secret that Meghan is good friends with her Suits love interest, Patrick J. Adams. The two have always been supportive of one another, so we would imagine that Patrick and his wife, Pretty Little Liars star Troian Bellisario, were one of the first couples to receive an invite.

"Playing Meghan’s television partner for the better part of a decade uniquely qualifies me to say this: Your Royal Highness, you are a lucky man and I know your long life together will be joyful, productive and hilarious," Patrick tweeted when news first broke that Meghan and Harry were engaged. "Meghan, so happy for you, friend. Much love."

ET also spoke with Patrick at the 2017 ATX Television Festival in Austin, Texas, where he had nothing but good things to say about the royal romance. "Meghan and I have been such good friends for years now and to see her so happy is great. She's super excited," Patrick said. "I'm super happy for her."

Starring in seven seasons of the USA Network legal drama as the beloved Rachel Zane, Meghan obviously developed a close bond with her co-stars. In addition to Patrick, we're expecting stars like Sarah Rafferty and Abigail Spencer to watch their pal say "I do."

"The cast has been contacted in regards to invites from Kensington Palace," a source reportedly told HELLO!. "The cast and key executives from the hit U.S. show are on the invite list for the royal wedding."

Harry has had a notably close friendship with former president Barack Obama and former first lady Michelle Obama through the years. Barack and Michelle have been big supporters of Harry's Invictus Games, even engaging in some friendly competition with one another.

Even after the Obamas left office, the three have maintained their ties. The 33-year-old royal and the former first lady once surprised students at Hyde Park Academy together, a high school in Chicago, ahead of the Obama Foundation Summit. Clearly, Michelle and Harry were more than happy to reunite!

Harry isn't the only one with ties to the political world. Meghan is friendly with Canadian prime minister Justin Trudeau. In September 2016, before she wiped away all her social media accounts, the bride-to-be even Instagrammed a photo of the two in Ottawa for the One Young World summit.

At the time, Meghan also shared photos of herself with Justin's wife, Sophie, as well as her close friend, stylist Jessica Mulroney (who helped her pick out her wedding dress designer!), enjoying some photo booth fun.

Here's hoping we see a glimpse of RiRi at the ceremony! In December 2016, she and Harry appeared to make fast friends when they took HIV tests together on World AIDS Day. Harry also joined Rihanna at the Barbados stop of his Caribbean tour to celebrate the island's 50th Anniversary of Independence with a concert and fireworks show, along with a ceremonial monument unveiling.

Cara Delevingne & Margot Robbie

Margot Robbie once revealed that her Suicide Squad co-star, Cara Delevingne, was good friends with Harry during a LOVE magazine interview. The three were also photographed partying together over the holidays in 2015 at a bash thrown by model Suki Waterhouse. "He's friends with Cara. He's the most normal guy ever," Margot said of Harry. "I didn't realize it was him [at the party]."
