Hey there lovelies! It's the weekend for a bunch of you! Huzzah! Hopefully this week wasn't too crazy for you and you're getting a chance to take a load off! Tonight I really just wanted to say thank you for all your kindness. Seriously. You all remind me every day that the world isn't a dreary place, but one filled with wonder, light, and good-intentioned people. Whether you're sending @ofmdlovelyletters to crewmates, or sharing artwork/fics, or making beautiful gifs, or sharing stills, sending a quick dm to check in on folks, or a comment with something kind, you are making the world so much more manageable. Sometimes when I'm having a bad day at work, even if I don't have time to interact much, I just come on and scroll through tumblr and see all of the things you all are up to, and I can feel the warmth radiating from all the wonderful things you're doing.
I can feel the love, even when it's not directed at me, that's how much love there is out there. It's like coming home to a warm fire and a soft rug to lay on and a blanket, and a cup of hot tea to warm the soul. You all make so many tiny waves each day, and those waves come back and go on to make other waves, and there's nothing more wonderful than someone being kind when they could have been harsh. You make the world a better place. You make this world worth living in, and fighting for, and full of hope.
So yeah.. I just wanted to say thank you lovelies, you truly have helped so many people through so many things you'll never ever be able to comprehend, and you do it with love. Thank you for being kind, and loving, and you <3 PS: This made me think of you all, thank you for being that reason for me and so many others <3

ok sorry thought i was done but just. like the places where i see discussion to be had abt misogyny re:wlw ships/fics getting less attention/hype/whatever in the marauders fandom is like
1. the fact that the source material is sexist in its portrayals of women and the sexism underlying how pretty much the only characters w any canon to build off in the marauders era are men
which like. this is a valid thing to point out, sure, and it's a valid thing to be aware of, but it isn't any individual fic writer's moral responsibility to rehabilitate the text by giving female characters development that was not afforded to them originally, y’know? fanfiction isn't activism, it's a hobby. and because it exists outside a profit economy, nobody really has any right as a consumer to demand certain standards of representation. so it's like. there is a conversation to be had there, but it's not a conversation that everyone is obligated to take part in, and it's not a matter of pointing fingers and going "you're sexist if you only write fic about boys!!" like that just isn't the way you act if ur trying to build community. sure, i think it's good to be aware of how the original biases in a text impact our engagement with it, but at the end of the day i'm not going to frown upon someone for looking at a handful of characters and picking the ones that were more well-developed in canon, yknow?
2. The Rosekiller Conundrum
see this is where i feel like a lot of this discourse hinges because when point 1 is broken down i often see people go: yeah but it's not just about which characters are well-developed bc evan rosier literally has no canon personality either and neither does barty and tbh neither does regulus so why are they so popular!!
and it's like. first of all, is rosekiller actually as popular as u are making it out to be? one quick search on ao3 brought up 4000 works tagged dorlene and 778 tagged evan/barty. so. i am curious about how this popularity is being measured (of course, timeframe plays into it too--if most of those 778 fics have been written in the past year, that probably is a lot more growth than most wlw ships see). but honestly i wonder how much of the seeming popularity of rosekiller is just internet echo chambers, yknow?
but also. people going "why/how did this get popular if not flat-out sexism??" like. it seems pretty simple to me. pandemic -> tiktok explosion -> atyd virality on tiktok -> marauderstok -> jegulus surge. a few fic writers somewhat randomly decided to write evan and barty as regulus's friends, their fics happened to go viral through no fault of their own, and bc of the way tiktok interacts w fanfic where everyone talks abt the same few popular fanfics bc that's what will get their videos views (which makes those fics more popular, which makes more people talk abt them for views, etc etc) evan and barty just happened to become new beloved characters. tbh i think it could just as easily have been any other two death eater/slytherin boys if someone had happened to choose them to be regulus's friends and then their fic went viral.
so like....to me rosekiller has less to do with sexism and more to do with the way that tiktok engages with fanfic through this framework of consumer economy. and so continuing to interact w it through the framework of a consumer economy is just gonna perpetuate the issues u are ostensibly trying to critique.
and like, yes, there is of course room for a conversation of like. what role misogyny plays in the seeming boom of rosekiller popularity, and whether this is indicative of a wider trend in which people get attached to male characters much more quickly and easily than they do female characters. but that is not the only factor at play here, and it is not necessarily the most important one, or a factor that's even going to be at play for every single person, and certainly not for every single person the same way. so like--sure, let's have those conversations! i've shared my thoughts on this blog before abt how i think misogyny might impact our abilities to relate to female characters. but nobody is obligated to take part in those discussions because, once again, this is a hobby that exists outside a consumer economy, and it is neither practical nor productive to act like everyone should be constantly and militantly policing each other for any behavior that could potentially be influenced by misogyny. this is supposed to be a community. if u want to have a conversation with someone, you don't start it by pointing a finger in their face and yelling about how you're morally superior.
#added a cut bc this got long!#of course!#who is surprised!#anyway tldr is like yes let's talk about misogyny but not as a form of pointless virtue signaling#ranting and raving#txt

people have been talking abt dream on here recently n i watch some of the other people in the dream smp so, a comprehensive list to things (to my knowledge) that he’s done/why people don’t support it and also some context for some of it
cw // mentions of possible pedophilia, mentions of the r-slur
1. the poll stuff is exactly as the other anons have said. many of the other dream smp creators also encouraged their fans to vote for that mob. kind of annoying but. that’s just the way it is, it’s like urging your fans to vote for a friend in an awards show, it’s natural to promote stuff you like/support to your fans
2. the thing w being shipped with his friends (some of whom are minors)! this one is in a way true, though not in the way that other anons have said. the context behind this one is that ninja was making suggestive/sexual comments with tommyinnit, who’s a 16 year old that’s a part of the dream smp, and dream laughed and encouraged the jokes. tommy makes a lot of sexual jokes about random things and though i don’t like ninja, he was going along with the bit, however i do think it started going too far as tommy then sent a panic word to wilbur soot, who’s one of the other members of the dream smp, which was a code word they’d made with one another for if they were ever uncomfortable and needed to be helped. a lot of people were confused as to whether this was part of the bit or not because tommy included these jokes in his youtube video, which many assumed that he wouldn’t do if it did make him uncomfortable and also once wilbur showed up, tommy waved him off saying never mind. regardless, after wilbur was called in, ninja backed off with the jokes. apart from this incident, tubbo, another minor on the dream smp, has said that he doesn’t liked being sexualized, and dream supported him on it. the other possibility is that the anons may have been referring to how dream has said he’s fine with being shipped with the dream team? in which case, this isn’t him saying he’s okay with being shipped with minors, the dream team consists of dream, sapnap, and george, all of whom are adults and have said they’re okay with it :) aside from this, people have a screenshot of dream saying “16 is legal in the uk” and have used that as proof of pedophilia, but if you watch the stream, you can hear that someone asks on the discord call what the age of consent is in the uk, and (i actually don’t know why he wasn’t speaking), this stream was a while ago, but everyone on the call answered with the same answer, that the age of consent was 16, and dream just answered it in chat
3. another thing is that dream has heavily defended the usage of the r-slur by neurotypicals in the past (i say past, but this was quite recent, around january of this year) saying that the word is offensive but the usage of it doesn’t necessarily make you a bad person. he hasn’t commented on this, but he himself is neurodivergent because he has adhd, so many people have mixed feelings about this situation because of that. he has apologized for his words multiple times since (reminder that if you’re not neurodivergent, it’s not your apology to accept though)
4. many people were upset with him for using the word lynching during a minecraft championship game. he says something about how people are cheating and they should be lynched, and though he meant it in a joking manner, many people were still (rightfully) upset about it due to the word’s history, and he has since apologized for it (reminder that if you’re not in the black community, it’s not your apology to accept though)
5. many people have come after dream for creating a parasocial relationship with fans, citing evidence such as how he says he loves them, encourages them to watch his and his friends streams, etc. i personally don’t agree with this one? stan culture was around long before dream and it’s going to be around for long after. it’s unfair to judge him for saying that he loves his fans or for encouraging his fans to watch his streams because at the end of the day, he is a content creator, streams are a part of that livelihood, and i feel like many creators and celebrities in the past and currently say that they love their fans and don’t typically get backlash for it?
6. the merch prices. his merch was incredibly overpriced, and though he’s apologized, it’s still,,, eh. people are very understandably still really mad about this one
7. his role in the smp! this is one that a lot of people (especially who aren’t really into the smp) misunderstand. watching the lives, it’s very easy to think that dream’s just an ass to those around him (for example, the clips going around where he’s just yelling at tommyinnit over minecraft discs). for those who aren’t aware, the dream smp is roleplay based and they are simply playing out a script most times :)
8. his similarity to c*y. nothing much else to say about this one. not really fair to judge someone just based off the fact that their faceless. corpse faced similar backlash because so many people are now wary of faceless youtubers due to that situation. you can be wary but in my opinion, i don’t think it’s fair to judge them
9. the behavior of his fans. this one i think is truly unfair to call him out for. dream team twitter and dream team tiktok do truly get out of control, but when it’s a real issue and it gets brought up to him, he has called it out in the past (for example, many dream fans started shitting on and hating on addison rae just because he interacted with her on twitter and she was receiving many hate comments for it, and when someone sent the screenshots to him, he called the behavior disgusting and embarrassing). twitter stans like to get the most random things trending but,, it is what it is, he has a big fanbase, most of whom are very young n think it’s funny to do things like spam keyboard smashes, and i don’t really think that’s something to berate your audience over.
that’s it from what i know, i’m sure i missed some stuff and for that i apologize. i personally don’t watch his content because it’s not my style, but he does frequently appear on the lives of other minecraft youtubers so this stuff pops up on my timeline quite a bit. i am,,, so sorry for such a long ask but i just wanted to provide people with context since a lot of people seemed confused so that they had full context when forming their opinions. if i’m incorrect on any of this, i hope that the other anons correct me as i want to be educated and informed. i’m in no way accepting any of his apologies for the stuff he’s said in the past because i’m not black nor neurodivergent so it’s not my apology to accept, i just wanted to say that he has addressed and apologized for the incidents. hope you all have a very good day and i’m sorry if any of this came off as rude or snappy.
I think I’ll add this to my masterlist too. Can you add more sources tho?

How HIKI Shifted Their Social Media Marketing Launch Strategy During COVID-19
HIKI, a newly launched genderless full body sweat brand, was set to reveal their DTC brand in March 2020, when the COVID-19 pandemic was in full swing. Despite the pandemic, HIKI decided to push forward with the launch by shifting its social media marketing launch strategy to suit the times we were living in. But how did they manage to do so?
Read on for a behind-the-scenes look at how HIKI shifted their social media marketing strategy for a COVID-19 era and how they leaned on their community to co-create their products. You'll hear directly from Tinah Ogalo, Social Media Coordinator at HIKI, and you'll learn:
Where to find inspiration for creating social media content for a Gen-Z/millennial audience
How to leverage your community to inform your marketing strategy (and to create TikTok content)
How to plan for a successful new brand or product launch on social media
How to stay up to date on social media trends and updates
This post is part of the #BufferBrandSpotlight, a Buffer Social Media series that shines a spotlight on the people that are helping build remarkable brands through social media, community building, content creation, and brand storytelling.
This series was born on Instagram stories, which means you can watch the original interview in our Highlights found on our @buffer Instagram profile.
Who are you?
Hi, I'm Tina w/ an H. I’m the social media coordinator for arfa, a new consumer goods brand house specialising in personal care products. We co-create every product with real people from all over the country (we call them the arfa Collective) because we believe people should have a say in what they put on their bodies. And in return, we make them stakeholders in the business and give them 5% of profits. We currently have two brands that we launched this summer: HIKI, a genderless full body sweat line, and State Of, a skincare and beauty line for menopausal women.
Where do you find inspiration for HIKI’s social media content?
Our HIKI audience is predominantly Gen-Z / millennials, so I look to platforms and topics that those demos are currently responding to most, like pop culture, TikTok, Giphy, and my Instagram explore page. I also am so inspired by our community's posts about HIKI. They created the brand with us and they’re so invested in its success, so when they post content to their socials about our products, I am always re-posting or coming up with creative ways to showcase their content.

Two things we love: Our Anti-Chafe Stick and @theogermaine 😍
A post shared by HIKI (@hiki_foranybody) on Aug 13, 2020 at 9:05am PDT
One example was the ‘Put a Finger Down’ challenge on TikTok. We saw that this was a great way to engage with our community so we created our own version to show them and others that sweating is totally normal. We had our Collective members, Noelle and Gabe participate in the challenge. Fun Fact - that’s our UX Designer, Ian’s, voice. We thought a British accent would be a nice added touch LOL.
How does managing HIKI’s social media account and community look like on a day-to-day basis?
Every morning I check to see what posts I’ve got lined up for the day, and then I go through all of our notifications that I may have missed from the night before. For the rest of the day, I’m working on the content calendar that’s two weeks out, searching for the latest trends, leveraging audience insights, making creative briefs for assets I want to incorporate into the feed, and working closely with our designers to create custom content for each platform.
HIKI was launched in March 2020, when the COVID-19 pandemic was in full swing. How did HIKI shift its marketing launch strategy to suit the times we were living in?
I joined in June, so I wasn’t at arfa for the initial launch, but the team did an amazing job. They had all of these plans for launch, then when COVID hit, people's lives and priorities shifted of course, as a business ours did as well. It felt counter-intuitive to what we were trying to build – products and brands that put people first – to launch for-profit as though the world hadn't changed. We also realized sourcing supplies was a big problem for a lot of folks, so we decided to instead give away all of the products we had ready to sell and ship to healthcare personnel, essential workers, and first responders—we ended up giving away 20,000 products, and I am so proud of that.
It felt counter-intuitive to what we were trying to build – products and brands that put people first – to launch for-profit as though the world hadn't changed.
It also helped us a lot when we officially launched for sale in July, because we had about 300 reviews on the site and had already gotten some amazing feedback from customers that I could use on social. Beyond that, we really leaned on our Collective, the people from all over the country we built the brand with, and micro and nano influencers to get as much vibrant and fun content as possible to push on our organic and paid channels to spread awareness. And it worked! The response to our branding on social accounts has been overwhelmingly positive.
What marketing/social media advice do you have for brands that are pre-launch?
Launches are always hectic (but so fun!), so it’s important to do as much heavy lifting beforehand so you can sit back on launch day and enjoy the show. Build up your asset arsenal so you have lots of social content to choose from in the first few weeks, gift 50-100 influencers in the 20K-100K range to generate buzz, partner with like-minded brands on social giveaways to build up your email list, and do lots of research on relevant hashtags. And definitely have at least a two-week plan so then you can breathe.

How do you leverage HIKI's community to inform your marketing strategy?
Our Collective wants us to succeed just as much as we do, getting feedback from them is always great because it’s so inspiring. Creating engaging stories such as polls and questions allows us to see what our community likes and doesn't like. Right now we know that they’re big fans of product shots and memes. They tell us how they incorporate HIKI into their lives and in turn, helps us share with our community different HIKI Hacks.
Creating engaging stories such as polls and questions allows us to see what our community likes and doesn't like.
HIKI's Co-ounders with The Collective members
What’s your number one tip for engaging with HIKI’s community?
Be active and listen! Check throughout the day that you’ve answered everyone, pinned tweets, liked comments. Even on the weekends, I check on our page in the morning, midday, and evening. It’s so important to us that our social account feels like a person(because it is! It’s me! :)) and we all are engaging with our feeds regularly, so the same should go for HIKI.
How do you stay up to date on social media/marketing trends?
I am always on the platforms, looking at what interesting new brands are doing and what’s trending. (Side note: I LIVE for TikTok trends). I also listen to podcasts and read social media blogs, like Homemade Social, to stay in the know.
What's your favorite HIKI product and why?
I love all of our children equally, but if I HAD to pick, I’d say the Body Powder because it smells amazing, is talc-free, and rubs into my skin seamlessly. Besides putting some on my lower back to fight my daily back sweat, I also use it as a setting powder.

Bad news? Talcum powder is harmful and it can be found in many personal care products. Good news? We don’t use talc 😏

Mirror Challenge Photo Trend: How To Upgrade Your At-Home Selfies
Tired: regular mirror selfies. Wired: the mirror challenge photo trend. Don’t like it? Blame social media. What started as a quick little video on TikTok has become a huge Instagram trend. Rather than taking the classic mirror selfie at home (You know the one: posing in front of a full-length mirror, phone in hand.), people are getting majorly creative—taking their mirrors outdoors or using smaller mirrors to capture their image. It just goes to show what can happen when “Instagram boyfriends” or BFFs aren’t around to take all the photos during trips to a coffee shop. Influencers are having to think outside of the box to create content for their social media platforms—and we’re honestly loving it.
If anyone decides to come for influencers citing a lack of creativity, they can catch! These! Hands! Sure, not every single content creator has the most unique aesthetic in the world, but there are a ridiculous number of influencers who are constantly thinking of innovative and creative ideas to promote their content—whether it be outfits, beauty products, fitness or home decor. (That list goes on and on.) The #mirrorchallenge is just another way these content creators are finding ways to keep things fresh even when they can’t leave the house. We stan.
The possibilities with these selfies are endless. You can dress up and have a solo photoshoot in your backyard—Anyone else obsessed with the palm trees in the above photo?!—or keep it chill and take some selfies with you and a roommate or partner with whom you’re stuck at home. Honestly, the selfie stick could never.
Of course, if you’re anything like me, you’ve likely realized you don’t even have a portable mirror to take outside. Luckily, though, there are so many cute mirrors you can snag online and have shipped directly to your house. We rounded up a few of our favorites to shop below. And while you wait for your mirror delivery, you can plan out all the incredible #mirrorchallenge photos you’ll create once it arrives. You’ve got the time.
1. Wooden Frame Round Mirror
TinyTimes.
This wooden frame mirror would give your mirror selfies a fun outdoorsy feel. Plus, when you’re not using it, this mirror is sure to look great on your bedroom or living room wall.
2. Vintage Oval Wall Mirror
Kole.
You can achieve some major princess vibes with this vintage wall mirror. It’s small enough to use outside in your backyard or set on your bed for an indoor photoshoot.
3. Vanity Makeup Mirror
YEAKE.
If you don’t want to invest in a larger mirror, you can use a hand mirror or a small vanity mirror like this one to create some seriously cool mirror challenge photos. Set the mirror on your dresser, surround yourself with natural light—and maybe some flowers—and you’re on your way to snapping the perfect picture.
Our mission at STYLECASTER is to bring style to the people, and we only feature products we think you’ll love as much as we do.
