Maroth the Undying
love interest | ~1,000 | he/they | bi
For the crime of imprisoning the Eldyseer-thoth, the heretic’s name will be stricken from all texts and any who utter it shall be guilty of blasphemy. Agony will chase his heels for eternity, and the forgetting will take him, until he is nothing but despair. —Exalted Saint Rosyth of Vyserth
—personality. a smile that shrouds all they feel, arrogant, believes mortals to be unworthy, willing to destroy any who prevent them from killing the gods, a yearning to free those beneath divinity, to be accepted, a fool in love, secretly the softest little baby, and would go to any lengths to protect those they care for.
—history. Chosen by the god of hope, Irzir-oth, Maroth is raised in the divine court of Dawn.
In their 20th year, they abandon their god and seek alliance with the Nyzlecz'nieth and other profane creatures in the dark of Dawn's forests. They seek immortality, and soon secure the path.
With the power of undying life and an army of monstrous beasts, he wages war on Irzir-oth and the twenty other gods of the Eldyseer-thoth. The worlds of the faithful fall to ruin, and the holy battle stretches onward.
In the 777th year of the Dyrthoth, Maroth enacts a ritual to imprison the twenty-one divines within each of their seven worlds. The war ends, and he passes a millennia in silence, hunting the knowledge that will allow him to destroy divinity.
His answer arrives with the resurrection of a prophet.

Vitorael of Vyserth
protagonist | 121 | she/her | bi
In the 1,777th year of the Dyrthoth, a prophet was born of the Shallow Sea to the people of Vystha-azoth. They named her Vitorael, for she would bring us victory and deliver the divines from imprisonment. —The Prophet’s Felling, an excerpt of texts by Yrsziel of Mederzda detailing the final battle lost to the Morzlyeth.
—personality. holier than thou (because she is), solemn, immense protectiveness toward her people, rage at any who threaten her gods, yearning for a martyr's death, an inability to see when she's in the wrong, and a willingness to sacrifice all for those she loves.
—history. Born from the Shallow Sea of Night, Vitoria is the first divine act of the Eldyseer-thoth in almost a thousand years. After witnessing her birth on their soulbinding pilgrimage, the Hearth-Priests of Vyserth adopt her as their daughter.
As Vitoria grows older, dreams turn to messages of dire warning from her gods. Her visions leave wounds, and she learns to fear sleep.
In the 16th year of her life, the Morzlyeth emerge from the cosmic void and descend on the seven worlds of the Dyrthoth. The plague beasts overwhelm the realm of Night, and in the 21st year of her life, Vitoria dies in the final battle to banish the creatures from her world.
A century passes, and Vitoria awakes on a derelict vessel adrift in space. In the darkness, the heretic who imprisoned her divines appears to her with an offer: kill the gods with him and take what they leave behind.
