"Soulmate 3s au where Tommy accidentally tells Buck about Daniel"
I'm *sat* and listening
ok so here's a little pasrt of the main scene of the fic
“Hmmm, I’d said a broken shoulder for Tommy around two years ago. It felt so bad I cried for hours and it wasn’t even my pain,” Evan says, frowing his pretty face.
Tommy nodded remembering how bad it felt. He was hiking with a friend, till he saw a kid and danger and rushed to help. He did of course, but managed to fall from the three, breaking his shoulder.
“I’d really wish to be here for him,” the smile that Evan sends him makes Tommy swallow so many words he wants to screen from roofroped but he’s not sure Evan is still ready for it. He’ll ask. Soon. For now just having Evan in his life is enough.
“And now the most interesting part of our program today, let me bet, it was the truck that literally was on your boy’s leg,” Howie winks and Maddie nudges his shoulder when Evan throws a napkin at him saying “too soon man”.
“Nuh, first you said the worst  pain when we weren't around. I was there helping to save him and all the rehabilitation,” Tommy says and everyone nods. He knows it's the perfect opening and he goes for it. Because he needs to be absolutely sure Evan is fine after what happened to him when he was 6 months old. And he just needs to know what exactly it was. He can’t live without knowing anymore.
“But it’s definitely his worst pain since he was 6. But no, I’d wish I was there for him when he was 6 months old and going through the worst pain that any baby should never feel. Can I know what it was by the way? Were you sick and needed some kind of treatment?” he looks at Evan who looks shocked at him. Everything is silent while Evan tries to find his words.
“To-Tommy, what yo-you talking about?”
“About the awful pain in your leg for a long time and aches for days after. I was 7 but still remember how I was crying in my nonna’s hands for hours.” Tommy says not seeing any recognition on Evan’s face.
“I was in the hospital when I was a baby just for check ups and vaccinations. Tell him Maddie” Evan turns to Maddie who looks like she sees the ghosts. “Maddie?” Evan’s voice changes to suspicious and his eyes go red. “ Do-do you know anything about this?”
Maddie puts her glass that she was holding not moving, turning to look at evan with her lip bitten and Tommy already knows he should have never asked. Because the truth seems too big to know. But at the same time? He is happy he asked. Evan deserves to know.
“You were in a hospital for your checkups and vaccinations, but not only,” Maddie swallows with tears in her eyes. “You were a healthy baby, but,” he voice cracks, and next thing she whispers if not the silence in the loft no one could have heard it, “Daniel wasn’t. He was our brother, Evan. He … he had leukemia. We-we basically lived in the hospital.”

No Minors Allowed!!
The following week is spent in the company of the Valkyries, mostly Göll, and Randgriz, a beautiful and kind-hearted woman with long light brown hair. They visit as often as they can, between ventures to Earth, trying to make your stay in the afterlife more comfortable.
So far it is.
The room constructed for you is warm and welcoming, but the fact you are dead still hits hard, much harder than you had expected. You appreciate the Valkyries for attempting to comfort you but this is something you must do on your own; accept your mortality.
But no matter how familiar you are with the concept of death, it's not something that comes easily.
With Randgriz and Göll in your company, it's easy to forget that your physical body is rotting in the aftermath of the hurricane, a sudden phenomenon that even the Valkyries won't bring up. It's strange, but you don't question it.
It's neither here nor now. All that matters is–
A soft voice calls your name, averting your attention. Your eyes snap back into focus, noticing the concerned look on Randgriz's face.
"Are you OK?" She asks.
You hum.
"I was miles away again."
"It's fine," Randgriz utters in understanding. "I believe it's your turn, however. We're on 2."
Your face turns red in embarrassment as you glance down at the cards in your hands. It's a silly notion, two Valkyries playing a card game with a human, but it comforts you.
Taking two cards from your hand, you set them face down on the growing pile.
"Two 3s," you claim.
It's a complete lie, but no one calls you out.
You glance over at Göll, waiting for her to take her turn. Her face turns red as she takes two cards and sets them face down on the pile.
"One 3."
"Bullshit!" You exclaim quickly.
Randgriz laughs.
"That is indeed bullshit, sister."
"N-no way! How did you both know?!" Göll asks with a squeak.
You don't know as much about her as Randgriz, but it's pretty obvious when she lies or gets nervous; her face shows her emotions.
Reaching down you flip over her cards, seeing that instead, she sat down one ace.
"You've got to learn to mask your expression when playing this game, or else you're going to take the pile again," you mention with a snort.
Göll whines and reaches down to gather the cards for the 2nd time. As she takes a moment to adjust them in whatever order suits her, your eyes wander to the cord around your ankles, sagging off the side of the couch as you rest with your legs beside you.
How long is it going to take before Brunhilde finds Yue-Lao? You have all the time in the world, but it would be nice to get the strings removed. They aren't hurting you, but since you've been in the afterlife you've had a craving for sweets. Perhaps this has something to do with whoever the God of Love and Marriage had paired you with.
They must be riddled with cavities… If that's possible for a soul.
"I'm ready to go!" Göll exclaims. Her eyes narrow in seriousness, inciting a snort from you.
"We shall see," Randgriz utters.
As she sets her first card down on the table, the door across the room bursts open unexpectedly and an enormous woman akin to a bodybuilder walks in; the sudden intrusion makes you lurch in fear.
Peering over your shoulder, you watch her scan the room until her curious green eyes rest on you.
"There you are. Brunhilde sent me to retrieve you," she mentions.
Your eyes widen. Did the older Valkyrie find something out?
"Good afternoon, sister Thrud," Göll announced with a smile.
Thrud smiles; her pink lipstick compliments her long braided hair.
"I almost didn't see you there Göll. Afternoon."
"Did you say Hilde is back?" The lilac-haired teen asks.
You raise a curious brow. Did Brunhilde go somewhere? You had no idea.
"She's waiting in the Observation Room," Thrud answers. Her eyes turn to you. "And she has urgent news."
"I understand," you utter.
Setting your cards down on the table, you stand with a groan. It's been a while since you've stretched your legs but at least they aren't numb.
"Thank you both for spending time with me," you mention to the two seated near the table. "Perhaps we can finish our game another time."
"I'll work on my poker face in the meantime," Goll mentions, inciting a snort from you.
Randgriz softly laughs, then wishes you luck. You leave the room with Thrud, following her quietly down the corridor in the direction Brunhilde had taken you to overlook the Valhalla Arena.
The suspense is eating you alive.
"I'm surprised by your expression earlier. Humans usually fear monsters like me," Thrud mentions, breaking the silence.
You raise a brow. What does she mean? You have a feeling she doesn't mean the fact she is a Valkyrie. Does she mean her size? You hope not; she is a stunning woman.
"Not everyone from my period understands, most fear what they don't comprehend... But I feel safe with you, so to call you a monster is cowardly. Thrud was it? It's a pleasure to meet you."
You give her your name, despite the fact she might already know it.
She peers over her shoulder at you for a moment, turning her attention forward shortly after; the tears in her eyes and the blush on her face might be the reason why.
You hope that you have lessened her insecurity about herself even just a little.
Passing the balcony, Thrud leads you to a door with a keypad. You avert your eyes as she types in the code, turning them forward once you hear the low beep signifying the correct combination. She opens the door, spilling shadows into the corridor, then motions you forward.
You take an uneasy breath, sauntering in.
The room is mostly dark and bare, except for a large flatscreen mounted on the wall akin to a theater screen. What appears to be a 3d map of the Earth is displayed on it, littered with thousands of red dots that you have no clue about.
Apart from the screen, a set of plush couches sit adjacent to one another with a long coffee table resting between them. Brunhilde is sitting on one of them holding a teacup in her hand.
"Impressive, isn't it?" She asks.
You hum, assuming she means the map of the Earth.
"What are the red dots?"
"Human souls," Brunhilde answers. She sets her cup on the table and stands, sauntering over to you. The screen illuminates her eyes as she stares at the map. "Thousands die every day. It's up to us Valkyries to guide them."
You frown, feeling like an inconvenience.
"And then you get stuck babysitting me."
"On the contrary. I've quite enjoyed this momentary break," Brunhilde clarifies with a grin. She turns her eyes to you and sighs. "And with that in mind, I regret that I've not been able to locate Yui-Lao."
She raises her hand and presses her thumb against her bottom lip, biting down on the nail.
"I searched all across the God Realms for him and found nothing. The old man is elusive, annoyingly so."
"That's unfortunate," you utter.
An air of disappointment consumes you, but you understand her plate is full. She doesn't have to waste her time helping you.
"I have however located your tether," Brunhilde mentions with a sigh. "He wasn't hard to find, considering your cords are the only ones stretching across the realm."
Your face heats up. How are you meant to take this news? Because you're both scared and curious.
"W-what now?"
"It depends on you," Brunhilde answers. "Regardless I will continue to search for Yue-Lao, however, the Valhalla Arena is not a place for a human soul to reside."
She isn't sure how long the search will take, you take from this. But where will you go?
"I trust your guidance, Brunhilde."
The said woman grins. She offers her gloved hand to you, and once you take it, a familiar white light consumes you. Once it fades, you drop to your knees as a wave of dizziness causes your head to spin.
Not again.
You take a deep and uneasy breath, staring down at the grass beneath you until your head clears.
"I'll never get used to that," you complain.
Lifting your head, you narrow your sore eyes as the bright rays of the sun beat down on you. The area Brunhilde had taken you to was a gorgeous farming village at the base of a large mountain range covered in snow. It was the most stunning place you had ever seen.
"Where are we?"
"It's known here as the God Realm, a good realm in the cycle of existence known as Saṃsāra," Brunhilde explains. "Though your soulmate doesn't have to be here, he often frequents it."
You stand beside her, raising a curious brow. You've heard the word Saṃsāra before. But from where?
"This way," Brunhilde orders.
She leads you through the empty streets to a temple built into the side of the mountain; its rustic stone structure has you in awe. The architect almost appears Asian, but you aren't certain of the exact origin.
What sort of man is your soulmate?
Walking into the temple, you follow Brunhilde into the main hall where a large plush seat in the shape of a lotus flower sits against the far wall. On it, resting on his side is a muscular man in a tank top with his light green hair - black on the sides - tied backward in an old-fashioned way.
"Bu-chan! You came back to see me," the man declares. His blue eyes shine in glee behind his glasses, but the curious look he gives you doesn't go unnoticed.
"I didn't come back to see you," Brunhilde mentions calmly. "I came back to introduce you to someone."
He hums and sits up with his legs crossed in front of him; the red cord around his ankles is noticeable now, connecting to yours.
"You're the one Bu-chan mentioned."
She had told him about you? Giving her a brief curious look, you avert your attention back to the friendly man, uttering your name.
Brunhilde grins in response and raises her hand toward him.
"This adolescent man is known as Gautama, but you know him as the Enlightened One, Buddha."
Is she serious? Your eyes widen in disbelief.
"H-he's a God?!"
This can't be right.
Buddha grins.
"The old man has a sense of humor, no?"
No kidding. What reason did Yue-Lao have for tethering you to a God? This has to be a cruel joke.
"Since I'm here, though. There is a serious matter I wish to speak to you about," Brunhilde mentions suddenly. She turns her eyes from Buddha to you. "Please wait outside in the meantime."
You can't escape quickly enough, stopping just outside the main hall and out of ear reach from whatever serious matter Brunhilde had to speak to Buddha about.
It honestly isn't your concern at the moment.
What should I do?
You rest your back against the stone wall, taking a deep uneasy breath. Things were different before when you had thought your tether was a human. But now that you know he is a God, the situation feels almost taboo.
Staring out at the gorgeous farming village, you realize that you know next to nothing about Buddha other than what the textbooks during your period say about him. He's meant to be a peaceful man, isn't he? Brunhilde had referred to him as an adolescent. Why?
One thing you know is that the man you had just met is not the Buddha you know. He's hot.
Your face heats up in response.
Why is this happening to me?
"Have I offended a God?"
"I doubt it," states a familiar voice.
You lurch in fear, turning your scared eyes to the God in question. He stands just inside the temple with his arm resting on the frame; the stick of a lollipop rests between his grinning lips. Your heart pounds in your chest as you stare at him, noticing his sharp canines. He smells divine.
"Because I've offended a lot of Gods and I've never been in a situation like this before," Buddha adds. He taps his foot on the stone floor to emphasize his point.
You raise a curious brow, but you don't question it.
"Where is Brunhilde?"
"She went back to the arena. Asked me to give you a place to stay while she searches for the old man," he answers.
His teeth click against the lollipop as he rolls it in his mouth.
"I guess we're roommates then," you utter.
Buddha raises a brow, as if he doesn't understand the term, but snorts regardless.
You crack a grin.
There's no telling what the future holds for you with this God as your soulmate but until you know for certain what plans Yue-Lao has for you both, there's no other option but to go along with what fate has in store.
"So um… What do I call you? No offense but Buddha is a bit hard to swallow."
"Whatever you like," Buddha answers. "So long as it gives you comfort."
What a lovely notion.
You can't help but wonder, however, if following Brunhilde's guidance on this matter is the right thing to do. Souls aren't meant to have tethers and they sure as hell aren't meant to be fated to a God.
Let's hope it doesn't come to bite me in the ass later.

Hi! I'm OBSESSED with all of your fics. I've probably read them all multiple times, Black as is the Raven at least 10 times tbh. Any chance that you'll be continuing the Ravens Soulamtes AU at some point??? 👀
I'm always surprised when people reread Black as is the Raven both due to how LONG it is and how dark it is (at least at the beginning/first 2/3s?). So THANK YOU. And yes, the Ravens soulmate is still a WIP.

1 OR 17 OR 22 with any of your OTP/3s for soulmate AU prompts (IF you're accepting prompts! reblogging for later reference is understandable)
I think I’ll take a crack at a quickie for 1. Happy 3/9 everybody!
1. the one where you only see color once you meet your soulmate.
He’d seen it once, a flash of orange against a blue sky, and the world was beautiful for an instant.
He’d seen it once, a flash of orange against a blue sky, and the world was beautiful for an instant. Kouryuu had felt hope leap into his chest and spun around, but by the time he had, it was gone. Koumyou was shades of grey, pale against the charcoal bark of the birch tree, but when Kouryuu searched him for any sign of the color he’d heard only stories about, Koumyou, still silver and grey, chuckled.
“Did you see something interesting, Kouryuu?” He walked towards him, riffling his long fingers through Kouryuu’s hair.
“I thought I saw it,” he mumbled. He wasn’t so sure what this whole ‘”soulmate” business would mean, but he’d been lonely, had drank of solitude so many times that now, he anticipated seeing color more than a night’s sleep after a long day scrubbing floors or a meal after a fast. Koumyou hummed.
“Perhaps it was an omen, or a hint. Ah, or perhaps a promise.” Koumyou lifted his pipe, and for a second, Kouryuu thought he saw the contents of the bowl glow red, but it was merely bright but colorless again. “You’ll know when you see them, because the world will be as beautiful as it was then until the end of your life.” Koumyou smiled mildly, and Kouryuu shuffled his feet.
“Do you think that will happen for me?”
“Hmmm.” It was that mock-hum Koumyou made when he was pretending to think, and Kouryuu pouted and put his hands on his hips. “My, my; I think it could.” Koumyou patted his shoulder. “When you meet the person on whom the axis of your soul turns, whatever that should mean for your soul, you will know that beauty again.”
“Do you know what it looks like? With all the colors?” Kouryuu looked around the world again, consciously aware that there were colors, had heard them described in the storybooks and poetry, but he could only imagine them. Koumyou chuckled.
“Perhaps I do; but then, that is a bit personal, isn’t it? Live long enough, and I’ll sure you’ll find out.” Distantly, the temple bell rang, and Koumyou held his hand out to Kouryuu. “Let’s go back together.”
Kouryuu took that hand, and led where it followed, hoping to be led to that brilliant world of light and color that that glimpse of orange against blue promised him.
But then, Koumyou had to tell him to live and pushed him aside before he received the killing blow. The world was still grey.
When Kouryuu was named Genjo Sanzo, the world was still grey. Kouryuu had still wanted to live then, to see the world in more than shades of grey.
When Genjo Sanzo was turned out into an uncaring world, that world was still stark grey.
The flash off the muzzle was bright white. Bullets were silver-grey. The gun was black, and every spray of blood blacker still. Genjo Sanzo knew the blood that spattered his face, chest, and hand when he got too close to whatever he had to kill was crimson, but it was black, sticky and ugly, as hideous and dark as the rest of the world.
The moon was white against the pitch black of night. The sun was blinding. By the time Genjo Sanzo had settled into a place where he didn’t have to kill his way to every safe haven, he had stopped wondering if there really were colors other than black and white. He’d even lost interest in the shades of grey.
That flash of orange against blue was something he’d imagined.
Just like that voice in his heart.
The trouble was that the voice in his heart was getting louder, more insistent, and finally, Sanzo decided to seek out its source if only so he could make it shut up.
The mountain was grey and bleak, dotted with tufts of pitiful looking white flowers. Sanzo trod over them, hardly looking at the world around him as he walked through it. The voice got louder and louder as he walked, and for a second when the summit came into view, he thought he saw something in a color he knew by name and sense impression alone: gold.
He made the last of the climb, and there, in the blackness of confinement, was a boy. The boy lifted his eyes, and then the sky was blue. Sanzo could distantly remember an orange paper airplane flying free against a blue sky, and his soul soared as the rest of the world bloomed around the boy. The red-orange of the rocks, the verdant, intense turquoise green of the trees below, the purple thistle and yellow dandelions that dotted the ground, and those gold, gold eyes. The world was indescribable. No wonder Koumyou hadn’t tried.
I could only have lived this.
Sanzo extended a hand, and the boy took it, smiling. “You’re the best thing I’ve seen for as long as I can remember,” he said, golden eyes alight as bright as any flame, and Sanzo’s world began to turn, perhaps for the first time, as Son Goku emerged from the blackness and into life in full color.

bodyswap soulmate AU
what if soulmates bodyswapped, say, during the 24 hours before their 20th birthday.
people wouldn’t be expected to work / attend classes / fulfill their other usual obligations on that day since someone else would be in the body
everyone’s friends / family / roommates would be fully prepared to meet the New Person. depending on what you and your loved ones are like, you and them may arrange for your visiting soulmate to be greeted with a feast, a tour of your hometown, an expedition to your favourite place(s) or to do your favourite activities, etc, all to allow your soulmate to get to know you better, while they get to know your soulmate better.
I imagine a lot of people, before the swap happens, would write a note, or a letter, or perhaps prepare a whole powerpoint presentation, for their SM. And then they may leave another note / letter / powerpoint presentation once the 24 hours are nearly up, recounting their thoughts and feelings about the day’s experiences, etc.
For soulmate pairs where one or both have one or several disabilities, they would get to experience life in the body of someone differently abled than themselves (except those who happen to share the same disability). This could.... go a number of ways depending on which disabilities are involved and on how much outside help can be had. I suppose there may be disability aid workers specialising in helping someone navigate their soulmate’s disabilities while they’re there?
My main issue with this is this could cause a lot of anxiety in the months leading up to it for people whose exact birthday is unknown..... And bodyswapping has a bunch of other issues like. if it’s 24hours you could probably skip a shower but there’s no getting around using the toilet.
I wrote this wholeass post thinking about soulmates who’ve never met previously but there are people who meet their lifelong partners before 20 huh
Also I don’t think soulmates have to be pairs, they could be in 3s or more? In that case would you body swap more than once over several days? dear gods i didn’t think this through when i was thinking about it last night while trying to sleep adfjhsgd anyways if anyone has read this far and has thoughts to contribute feel free

Could you please help me find a fic, it was a soulmate, alien *and* omegaverse au (because all good things come in 3s amirite) in which Yuuri and Viktor were a species of rabbit-like aliens (called Lapis or something I think???) and they were both intergalactic runway models, but Viktor had moved on to being a designer and didn’t really walk the runway himself anymore... I’d really appreciate if you could help me find it again I wanna reread it, thanks in advance ♡
after a quick search of tags, my best guess is Written in the Stars by PrivateerPoisonIvy. Is this what you’re looking for? does anyone else have guesses?

good thoschei AUs!!
These aren't ones I've necessarily read (since I haven't read much) but I am an avid au reader! These are just ones I think would be fun! Rival professors, that soulmate au with enemy on one wrist and soulmate on the other but their wrists both say the others name, soulmate timer au but instead of counting down to when they met it hits zero when they are finally on the same page and good for each other, au where spydoc wake up in the past as their academy selves, I know I always say time loop when someone mentions aus (@not-jodie-yet has a very good missy/13 time loop fic if anyone wants a dw time loop) but a mystery spot au where the master is desperately trying to keep the doctor alive, and the last one I'll suggest now is similar to one of the other ones but 10 after seeing simm die waking up the next day in 3s body and having to stop delgados plot of the week all while pining and mourning. As you can tell I have many ideas (for many ships) of aus that I would love to see but I am incapable of writing fiction 😔😔

Greetings and Salutations, Critical Role Fandom! I’m a fanfiction writer trying to break into the fandom’s trove of stories and perhaps get some other writer friends/potential editors who share a mutual love for the ridiculousness that is the show. I have just posted my first drabble for this fandom, and also have a still-growing soulmates AU that’s currently at about 2/3s completion and 12,000 words.
I take prompts/ideas/inspiration of any kind, and so any list of fanfiction prompts you can find either on my page or anywhere else, as well as original ideas or whatnot you want to see written out are more than welcome in my inbox. As are any inquiries, conversation starters, or anything else, because I’m an extrovert who loves to talk to people :P
So please, check my work out and I promise there is much more to come!
Note: I just completed episode 64 as of posting this, so please, no spoiler prompts!
