Merry Christmas! Today we came together to celebrate the birth of our Savior, first at church, and then at home with our little family. I bought the most adorable festive outfits—on sale, of course! With this many children it’s always prudent to watch our purse-strings, as Colin likes to remind me. Once we were dressed, we took family photos in front of our tree for our annual Christmas card. Every Christmas is a time for gratitude and joy, but I’ve never felt it as much as I have this year.

To begin with, Colin got a promotion! He’s now the manager of his company’s Brindleton Bay branch. As his wife I can testify to his hard work, persistence, patience, and—most important—trust in the Lord as he worked toward this career milestone. It was so cute to see him in church the Sunday after he got the job, telling everyone he saw about his big news!

It may not be obvious from the photo, but I’m pregnant with baby #5! We’ve just done our first scan and it’s only one baby in there. My heart wanted another set of twins (or triplets!) but my head knew I would have my hands full as a mama to five under five, let alone six or more! I’m not showing much, since I’m only eight weeks along. From what I’ve seen in our church community, the consistently tight spacing of my pregnancies (five under five!) is on the unusual side, but certainly not uncommon. As I grow older I’m sure my body will slow down, but for now I’m enjoying the fruits of God’s grace.

Once again, Merry Christmas! I’m prayerful He’ll continue to bless us in the coming year.

the pulsating beat of the music surrounded sophia as she stood in the midst of the vibrant new year's eve party. the air was thick with anticipation, laughter, and the infectious energy of the approaching countdown. glittering confetti adorned the space, and couples swayed to the rhythm of the music, lost in their own world of celebration. her eyes, however, couldn't help but wander to a figure across the room — a figure that carried the weight of shared history and untold stories. there, amidst the revelry, stood the one she used to call hers, the echoes of their past etched in the lines of their once-intertwined destinies. as the countdown to the new year commenced, she couldn't ignore the magnetic pull that drew her toward the familiarity of their shared space. the unspoken tension between them lingered, a silent acknowledgement of the uncharted territory they were about to traverse. "do i even want this?" she mused, her fingers idly tracing the rim of the champagne flute she held. the crowd erupted into cheers with each passing second, counting down to the moment that symbolized fresh starts and new beginnings. in the chaos of the countdown, their eyes met across the room — a collision of memories and the unspoken question hanging in the air. with each passing second, the femme felt the weight of their history, a complex tapestry of joy and heartache, pulling her toward the person who once knew her in ways no one else did. as the countdown reached its crescendo, she couldn't escape the irony of the situation. the idea of being each other's New Year's kiss, a fleeting moment in the grand tapestry of their shared past, held an unspoken truth that lingered in the air. sophia's heart sank as she read alex's reply, a pang of sadness washing over her at the weight of his words. she knew all too well the struggle of letting go, the ache of holding onto something that was no longer meant to be. but she also knew that sometimes, the hardest choices were the ones that led to healing and growth. "i understand, alex," sophia replied, her fingers hovering over the keys as she carefully crafted her response. "it's not easy, and i don't expect you to just flip a switch and move on. healing takes time, and it's okay to struggle along the way." the thought of seeing alex one last time tugged at sophia's heartstrings, stirring up a whirlwind of emotions she had been trying to suppress. she knew that closure was necessary for both of them, a chance to say goodbye and find peace in their own separate paths. "i'd like that too," sophia admitted, her voice softening with sincerity. "one last meeting to say goodbye sounds like the right thing to do. let's meet and make peace with the past, so we can both move forward with our lives." as she hit send, sophia felt a sense of bittersweet relief wash over her. it wouldn't be easy, saying goodbye to someone who had once meant so much to her, but she knew it was the first step towards a brighter future for them both.

alex reads the reply from sophia, he could feel his heart breaking, he felt like an absolute idiot. but he did miss her a lot and he was struggling, alex could see sophia in everything, she was always there, a constant reminder of how he fucked up. he sighs, letting out a shaky breath, looking down at his phone, " you're right, i know. i just can't seem to accept that. it's tough". sophia was right, he did need to let go of her, he needed to move on, this wasn't healthy for either of them, it was just causing more pain. maybe, if he saw her for one last time and made peace with her that way, he could finally start the process, "i get it. i shouldn't put you in that position. yeah, but that seems so difficult at the moment, it feels impossible" he hits send, sitting back for just a second, "i'd like that. it'd be good to see you again, for one last time" that was it now, he'd sent the text, he needed to commit, he was going to get over her, no matter how hard it was.

Our sweet baby boy is here! Six pounds, four ounces of perfection arrived last Friday evening—not long after the twins' third birthday—and we’ve been soaking up the time as a new family of six ever since. His name is Samuel Charles Wagner, after Colin’s father, the late Charlie Wagner.

Now we have two girls and two boys, nice and even! The girls couldn’t be sweeter to him, especially Lottie. She’s always tugging at my skirts, saying “Mommy, I have a toy for baby Sam!”

sophia's heart clenched at his words, a painful reminder of the walls she had let down, only to be met with disappointment once again. She had hoped that maybe this time would be different, that maybe he would finally see past his own insecurities and understand the depth of her feelings. "i'm not mad," she replied softly, her voice barely above a whisper. but her words held a weight of resignation, a silent acceptance of the fact that she had once again allowed herself to be hurt by someone who couldn't—or wouldn't—see beyond his own perspective. she wanted to believe him, to believe that he was trying, that he truly cared about her feelings. but she couldn't ignore the nagging doubt in the back of her mind, the fear that she was only setting herself up for more disappointment. ''it's not about being mad," she continued, her voice tinged with sadness. "it's about feeling like I'm constantly walking on eggshells, never knowing when you'll push me away again. it's about wanting to trust you, but feeling like i can't because you keep crossing boundaries without even realizing it." she met his gaze, her eyes searching his for any sign of understanding. but all she saw was confusion, a fleeting glimpse of someone who was trying to understand but ultimately falling short. "i don't know how to fix it," she admitted, her voice trembling with vulnerability. "i wish i did, but i'm tired of trying to navigate this minefield of emotions on my own. i need you to meet me halfway, to show me that you're willing to put in the effort to make this work. otherwise, i don't know if i can keep holding on."

feels a shift in the air. not the most emotionally aware person on the planet. thinks it creates for interesting dynamics most of the time. makes it easy for him to disregard other's feelings with so little as a fleeting thought. seems different with sophia. there's this part of him that feels relatively conscious of her feelings, even if it takes him a little while. so he can only fall quiet, knowing he's done and said the wrong things. never meant to actually hurt her, but she's got to understand where he's coming from too. doesn't usually do this, doesn't know how to navigate those annoying tugs at his heartstrings without cracking a crude joke or uttering words that'd seem heartless in nature. " i know. i forget sometimes. about . . . boundaries and trust. " does actually mean those words. never has placed blind faith onto someone else. still feels like he's hanging off the edge of a cliff when he takes those chances. can't she see that he's trying ? " you mad at me, soph ? " blinks in her direction, brows slightly furrowed with genuine curiosity. " i get it if you are. i just wanna know so i can find out how to fix it. make you . . . not mad at me. "

the realization hit her like a sudden gust of icy wind, chilling the warmth that had once blossomed in her chest. the words echoed in her mind, each syllable carving a deep furrow of disappointment. she stood there, staring at the person she had believed held her in a unique and cherished light, only to feel the ground shift beneath her. "i felt special until i realized you talk to everyone like that." sophia's eyes, once filled with admiration and trust, now betrayed the storm of emotions raging within. the words hung heavily between them, a confession that stripped away the illusion of exclusivity. she had basked in the glow of what she thought was a genuine connection, only to discover it was just a reflection of a practiced charm cast upon a broader audience. a bitter taste settled on her tongue, mingling with the remnants of shattered expectations. the vulnerability she had allowed herself, the belief that there was something unique about the way they interacted, crumbled like fragile porcelain. her voice, usually steady, wavered as she mustered the courage to respond. sophia felt her heart constricting in her chest as she listened to his plea, his words heavy with vulnerability and longing. a part of her wanted to reach out to him, to wrap him in her arms and reassure him that everything would be alright. nut another part, the part hardened by years of disappointment and heartache, held her back. "i can't," she whispered, her voice barely above a whisper, the weight of her words hanging heavy in the air between them. "i can't keep pretending that everything is okay when it's not." her gaze softened as she met jett's eyes, the pain reflected in his gaze mirroring her own. ''i know you could be better," she continued, her voice trembling with emotion. "but it's not just about you, jett. it's about me too." she swallowed back the lump forming in her throat, the tears threatening to spill over. "i can't keep waiting for you to change, hoping that one day you'll be the person i need you to be." the truth of her words hung between them like a barrier, separating them from the possibility of something more. she could see the hurt in his eyes, the desperation to make things right, and it tore at her heart. but she knew deep down that she couldn't sacrifice her own happiness for the sake of someone else's. "i'm sorry," she whispered, her voice barely audible over the pounding of her heart. "i wish things could be different, but they're not." and with that, she turned away, her footsteps heavy with the weight of what could have been, leaving him standing alone with his shattered dreams.

this was the first time that he’s ever really felt like this towards anyone. all of his life he was convinced that love wasn’t the thing for him, that it was only part of the fairytales that was never a reality. especially with how screwed up his parents were, it only lead to him being the way he was. his eyes darts over towards her features, a pain look taking over his features. “don’t say that.. i could be better.. better for you.” he mutters softly, trying to get her to see that he wasn’t all too bad. words were like shards of glass cutting through him piece by piece, not wanting to lose the one person that makes him feel sane. “please, sophia.”
