(Inspired by this! I forgot about it for a while, and then found it again playing on my Hunter. Sent my inspiration wild!)
I Saw What Happened.
---
It had become a bit of a dark running joke that the shooting never stopped. Naturally, things like that never really come to be in a vacuum. There was always at least some level of validity to the claim in a world where the defenders of humanity made armed conflict into sport. A Guardian’s duty was that of a warrior, one destined to walk a path lined in fallen friends and broken adversaries. Combat was a given, whether it was a life or death gambit against a Dark god or the day-to-day patrol work needed to keep the City running and safe. Still, such general statements can’t ever be infallibly true. There were calm periods, too. Moments with friends, hours of peace, periods of graceful quiet where one could make such hyperboles to amuse themselves. Just like the battles, the space between came for every Guardian. Up to and including those as reckless and free as the Broken Nomad. For her, the saying held true more than most. She was always in the field if she could help it, always picking her battles. More than most, she was keen and willing to walk dangerous wilds unending until her boot-soles wore threadbare. Even she was no exception to the rule. When the shooting stopped for Soren, she did what she always did- exhaled her bated breath, and checked her cloak for holes.
She’d hardly even exerted herself. The Red Legion were weaker than they’d ever been. As their last bastions of power were reduced to desperate bandits in withering hovels, Guardians of the City sought their extermination. Cabal were never good at hiding. An expert tracker like Soren could pick up their careless trails straight to their sad little camps with uncanny ease. She’d found one such nestled in a cave beneath the EDZ. It couldn’t have been more than a platoon of Legionaries, plus a Psion or two, commanded by a low-ranking Centurion who’s only qualification was still drawing breath. Nothing that could pose a threat to a well-disciplined human, let alone a veteran Lightbearer. The odds were steeply in her favor, and the fact didn’t draw up a shred of mercy. She set her talons upon them like a hawk on a field mouse. Despite their desperate retaliation, they fell before her almost routinely. Soren could have caught herself yawning as she bested their most heartfelt attempts to stay alive. She was as a tempest to them, an impossible target made of a flurry of Light and spent brass. For her, they were little more than a shooting gallery. It was over in an instant. Hours of scouting for less than a five-minute engagement hardly seemed fair, but she wasn’t one to complain. She’d taken harder knocks than being bored.
Short-lived as it was, the gunfight had still left it’s scars across the cave. Pockmarks from Soren’s rifle and cannon mixed with those of the Legion’s slug throwers into a mosaic across the naked stone. Several canisters of combustible fuel had been ignited in the exchange, painting black scorch marks across the floor. Those Cabal not immolated by the explosions had been slain precisely. They laid where they fell, strewn in heaps like freshly-killed game. Many had been shot cleanly through the head, some lay with sliced necks and thrown knives still embedded in their armor. Evidence, left boldly at the scene of a professionally-executed massacre. It’s perpetrator didn’t bother cleaning up after herself. Soren spent little time assessing her handiwork. She stepped carefully over the lifeless bodies, retrieving her favorite knife from the helmet of a Phalanx who hadn’t even seen her coming. Clint floated near her, unafraid to show himself now that the danger had truly subsided. Neither one spoke. It wasn’t necessary to, they already knew that their ship was on its way. All there was to do now was wait. The Ghost’s twisting mechanical body produced the only subtle sound in the room, now that the roar of gunfire and explosions had ebbed away. The cave was quiet, now. Stillness hung in the air, silence that would seem eerie to most. Soren hadn’t given it much thought. She wasn’t really paying attention. When the silence whispered to her, she almost missed it.
"I saw what happened."
Dread. The most intense, exquisite feeling of something horrible approaching dropped in her stomach like a ship with no pilot. She didn’t feel powerful anymore. A primal feeling had overtaken her, something fearful and raw reminding her all at once of how small she truly was. She had no certainty of what she had heard. Who had spoken. What had spoken. She had no clue if she had even heard it’s words correctly. As it will when it fears the unknown, Soren’s imagination went ballistic. It thought at once of a trillion different things that could be calling to her. Beasts and forces of the universe that wished so dearly to communicate with her. Were they not merely a trick of her mind, they could have been a horror from Fundament. That would be the easiest guess. The safest, most familiar, most quantifiable dark thing that may have bid for her wandering attention. Soren knew that would’ve been too easy. She knew whatever had spoken was older and far more terrifying than any machincation of such mere mortals as the Hive. This utterance had come from the space between the stars, as a herald. It told of what it had seen for a reason. Perhaps it was to see it again. Maybe it wished to warn her of something coming. A finality the likes of which had only been seen once before, the same nightmare that the Drifter sought to run from and Calus swore to embrace. She was too hungry and sharp to be satisfied being ignorant in triumph. Soren had to understand.
“You saw what…” she whispered at first, shaky and letting herself trail off. Her voice barely rose above a mutter as she tried again. “You saw what happen...?”
The presence, if that was truly what it was, made no reply. No matter what uncertainties it left stirring in the Broken Nomad’s racing heart, it would say no more. She would have petitioned it, even demanded of it, were it not for the slow confusion of her Ghost.
“Uh...Soren? I didn’t see anything, dude.”
Daring to look to the side, Soren caught Clint’s narrowed and confused eye. He hadn’t heard it, he couldn’t have. If he had, his facsimile of an expression wouldn’t be so full of bewilderment. Was it just a trick in her head? A hallucination? Some misstep in her neurons leading her to conjure words that were never spoken? No, it couldn’t be- faint as it was, Soren knew damn well what she heard. But if only she had heard it, there was no reason to believe in was real. Even in the twisting, maddening corridors of the Vault of Glass, Clint had corroborated every oddity she had witnessed. He was the last assurance she had left when the forces of the Darkness sought to lead her astray. Now there was nothing to say she wasn’t going downright crazy. The idea didn’t bode well, but it sat far better with her than the thought of whatever insanity the silence had spoken of. Soren must have ruminated longer than she thought. Again, her Ghost sought her attention.
“Soooren? You okay?” Clint asked, synthetic voice tinged with worry. “Kinda freaking me out here, man.”
She decided it was no use. Until these things came to pass, another secret would not overburden her. She would lie. But what was dishonesty, when one knew nothing at all?
“Ah...it’s nothing. Let’s get outta here.”

-50 reasons to touch! [Accepting]-32: …to wake yours up.
Mairwen hummed, glancing down at him as he slept. Sitting up on her elbows, she glanced around them. She could probably sneak out without him even noticing. She considered doing so. Though there wasn’t much point.
She gently reached forward, brushing his hair away from his face. ❝Time to wake up.❞
She waited a moment before moving closer to him, laying her head on his chest, arms crossed to pillow herself. She hummed again, letting the vibrations spread from her. She called out quietly in a sing-song voice. ❝Soooren.❞

"You have no idea." She breathed out before her breath caught as he started his assult on her clit. "Soooren..." She moaned in pleasure, shivering a moment as tingles ran down her spine. She cursed softly under her breath as she tangled her fingers into his hair, pressing him closer to her.
❄((with Soren?))
Soren went to open the front door only for the wind to blow it closed again. “Well, I guess we’re staying here then. Do we have enough food,” he asked, looking down at her and locking the door. “I’ll start the fireplace, if you got anyone waiting for you just tell them you might not be back. It’s snowing a lot outside. Looks like you won’t be going back to Evan for a bit.”

Woo!! Soren damage only autobattle!
The hardest part of this was getting the Ike’s to not just leave themselves in range of the blue flyer. Heaven forbid they let Soren take a hit from that blue mage! But of course he could always take a hit from the axe cave, that’s fine.

Hey look I finally put up another legendary hero battle abyssal clear! Made myself a secondary youtube channel for stuff like this and everything.
Fun stuff with this dang map, Sorens ridiculous build here is almost entirely because of the firesweep sword peg.
