🗣 Wed 14 Oct ‘20 ⚔️
Hi it's that time of the day again so best get your popcorn out! Let’s start by clearing some things up that *didn’t* happen so that we can focus on all of the cool stuff that *is* actually happening.
Yesterday, an interview Niall did with Metro was published, in which Andrei Harmsworth (the writer of the article) said that “[Niall] would be bailing [the crew] out from his own pocket”. This then took off, and was misattributed to NIALL, who did not claim anything of the sort. There are a few reasons this is important: the first is that the rest of the article went on to outline the difficult time his crew has been having when trying to make ends meet throughout the pandemic proving that they have not yet actually been paid, the second is that the phrasing ‘bailing them out’ is horrendous - you are not doing people a favor by paying them, this is what they’re owed - and the third is that Niall DID make some excellent points about the government and the lack of resources available to essential workers during this time (hi that’s me!), and (!!) this concert is fundamentally a good, helpful thing, despite it not being the *only* thing he could have done.
Of course, it then became a competition over who has done more for their crew. Some twitter stans took to claiming that Niall was second best to Harry (sighhh) because oBvIOuSLy Harry has paid his crew in full. Where did they get that piece of information? A bumble conversation that a fan supposedly had with someone who claimed to be tangentially associated with his lighting director, or from CapitalFM, who simply reported on the supposed bumble convo as they so often report unsourced twitter chatter as fact. That is to say, nowhere credible. The truth is that, besides Niall’s confirmation many months ago that he has not personally paid anyone their salary, we don’t know about these guys, although there is a lot of circumstantial evidence that they have gone along with industry standard: the crews have not been paid, because they are independent contractors.
Rather than turning this into a pointless competition for which we have no actual point of comparison, I’d like to talk about what Niall IS saying about the lack of governmental resources that are available to crew members during this time: “furlough doesn’t touch them...they’ve been completely forgotten by the government”. And while I agree that every single one of these guys should pay their crews out of pocket, as an essential service worker myself, I also agree with Niall that governments all over the world have an ass backwards idea of what a livable wage looks like, and have not provided the necessary resources for essential workers and independent contractors. That is to say, PUT THEM ON BLAST NIALL!! Anyways! The fandom discourse got so rampant that Niall himself weighed in! He said that the overall response has been “incredible”, but that there are “a few awful responses that are frustrating to read as these people don’t know the ins and outs of our industry and how things are costed up etc.” Instead of engaging the twitter horde, let’s do as Niall says and, “forget about them and have a great time”.
In the spirit of that, let’s talk about tickets! Spotify sent out a presale ticket link with a discount, which turned out to be sharable and has been going around. Niall also said he was encouraging all of his friends to put on a similar concert, so maybe we’ll see more of these benefit concerts! And, although he’s been a busy bee today, he took the time to do a shirtless shoulder shimmy over on Ashe’s Instagram story.
Liam made a phenomenal ad for his Veeps Halloween show which has been posted on Instagram: he is dressed as a gladiator with his thighs on full display (oh my god his THIGHS are really FUCKING impressive). In the video, he awkwardly stumbles through the photo studio, bumping into random employees (“oh, er, sorry,” Liam says as the other guy looks at him as though he’s a fish out of water), and finally finding his shoot room, growling at the camera (me: *remembers the Gryffindor growl he did in one of his instagram lives*), and walking out of the room awkwardly again. It’s very very funny, and I can’t wait to see the show! I finally have a costume idea, but I’m not gonna share it just yet!
And, in some sunny news (or like...sunny adjacent?), Harry was seen out and about in LA looking much less like 2013!H and much more like 2019!H. He was in a golden, flowery top (are they sunflowers or daisies on his shirt? Bets in now!), his pearls, a black mask (<3), some sunglasses, and some chipped golden nail polish! Guys, I know usually talk about Louis’ eyes, Harry’s eyes are soooo green. Like. Sea glass green, I think. SO pretty. Anyways, his hair is still long-ish, but as filming for DWD starts on the 19th, I’m sure it will get trimmed sooner rather than later. Also, Stevie Nicks is back and talking about Harry offering to buy her some, er, tomatoes early on in the quarantine, which is almost but not quite as interesting as the account albumcondoms on instagram who has, at this point, made condoms for Walls, Fine Line, and LP1. Well, as they say, “sex is great, but have you tried music?”
#niall horan#liam payne#harry styles#also welcome back to the teddy bear that eleanor keeps posting in her insta stories love that for her#and spotify is so so weird#they sent me the presale link even though i hadnt listened to all of HBW since March when it came out#and then again yesterday in honor of this concert#so maybe its proximity to sale date that decided who got the link?#or! they just drew names out of a hat!#they both sound equally likely to me!#anyways!#the song of the day!#Better Days by The Goo Goo Dolls#which is what we should all be looking forward to

Personal Goals
We are coming up on the holiday season, which means the end of the year is nigh. Which means, its almost New Years Resolution time. I’ve normally been either against making resolutions like this, or if I have dared to make one or two, I’ve not always been good about keeping to task. But I find myself at the moment with several personal goals that I want to accomplish. So I thought I’d share them here, and also the thought process behind it all. I haven’t yet figured out some details, but there’s a rough set of endeavors that are on my list, and those are sharable at the moment. So here goes.
I find myself inexplicably registered for a number of upcoming races! I’m obviously a little bit nervous about this, since I’m always nervous about races, and more so this year due to The Ankle. But, nerves are good sometimes. New things, even scary things, are good for us and help us grow! So I anticipate some growth soon.
Here’s the list!
December 21, 2019: The Miami Lakes Jingle Bell Jog, in my home township of Miami Lakes
This is a fun, low-pressure, dinky but cute little run in my neighborhood. The starting line is a <10 minute walk from my house, which is the major incentive for doing it. I did this same race last year and actually PR’ed! I do NOT see that happening this year, haha - but it’ll be a fun little run anyways. Fun fact is that every registered runner gets a free Santa suit. I wore it for the run last year and almost melted, it was soooo frigging hot. I’m gonna think long and hard about whether I want to wear the darn thing while running this year.
Pic of me almost sweating to death:
Next up, a big one....
Sunday, January 26, 2020: The Publix Ft. Lauderdale A1A Half-Marathon
Yeaaaaah! It’ll be my first half-marathon since 2013. For those of you doing the math - that was over six years and ONE BABY ago. Obviously, I’ve had some really interesting and challenging new physical experiences in that time with fitness - but as far as good ol’ fashioned distance running goes, it’s been awhile. And to that end, I’m already in the “Oh shit I better get my act together” training-planning mode.
This has happened recently:
And this:
And this:
(I’ll have to link to the post later - but about a year ago, I had to pull my car over at this exact spot to extract a giant coconut tree frond that had somehow gotten lodged in my undercarriage, and at that precise moment, a GIANT iguana came out to say hi. And yep, I’m now going for long training runs along this route. I have a feeling I’ll have some fun stories to share soon about more animal encounters). Also, this route is (I believe) safe, but it IS a service road along a very busy freeway - so I’m going to be researching safety gear like reflective vests, a better-quality, brighter headlamp than the one I own, etc. for early morning runs.
A run I’ve not yet registered for, but am contemplating, is this one:
Sunday, February 9, 2020: The Miami Half-Marathon
I haven’t figured out if I really want to do this one yet. It’s supposed to be an awesome race, and an awesome course. The things holding me back:
1) It is Super Bowl Sunday. I kind of need to see how the Saints do before I pull the trigger on this (we’re currently 9-2!)
2) Its sort of soon after the other half-marathon, and I’m not sure I’m gonna want to do another one so soon.
3) I have another potential race in February that is sort of more important to me, but even that I’m not sure about, but I dunno... basically, I’m just confused.
So speaking of that other race, here it is....
Saturday, February 22, 2020: Spartan Super - Jacksonville
AWWWW yeah. Another OCR. I LOOOOVED the experience of training for and completing the Spartan Sprint last year, and after doing it, a big part of me was VERY tempted to try and get a trifecta last year, which is a special medal for when you complete a sprint (~5K), super (~8 mile), and beast distance (~13 mile) all in the same year. I have NO idea if I could or even should try to do this now, esp. with my ankle and all - but a part of me wants to try, or at least train like I’m trying. So, this race is in my mind also. I’ll have to think about it, maybe go back to my SGX trainer for a few sessions, then make a decision - esp. because this one involves travel, and the registration itself is also not cheap. Therefore, I haven’t registered yet.
That leads to....
Saturday, April 25,2020: Spartan Sprint - Palm Beaches.
This is the exact same Spartan Sprint that I did last year, and I am REGISTERED for it again, baby! WHOOOT! The Sprint length is PLENTY hard enough for me, so even if this is my only Spartan and I do not attempt a Super or a trifecta this year, I’ll still be very proud to run this race and (hopefully) complete it successfully once more.
So - with all these races and potential races on the horizon, I have a bigger personal goal and project that I’m kind of contemplating, cooking up, working on, researching . . . . . I’ll be reporting about that soon I hope. For now though, I’ll close with....
RAAAAAH!!! Time to get beast mode on. Time to commit, dig in, and TRAIN my ass off. This year - 2019 - has brought a lot of hardship and personal trials. I am on a QUEST for positivity, joy, pride, smiles, happiness, and VICTORY in 2020. BRING IT ON! I AM READY!!!!!!
