fascination for anything vintage and classic: digital camera collection
Today, I felt the need to pour my thoughts onto these pages about my digital camera collection and how it all came to be. It's a peculiar passion that took root within me, driven by a desire for the nostalgia that vintage cameras provide. You see, there's something about those old cameras that stirs my soul, a feeling I can't quite put into words. But the road to finding my place in this digital camera world wasn't without its twists and turns.
I've always been drawn to the charm of vintage cameras—the way they feel in my hands, the satisfying clicks of their mechanisms, and the rush of nostalgia they bring. The only setback was the hassle and cost of scanning film. That's when I stumbled upon a delightful compromise: vintage digital cameras. These remarkable devices offer the crispness and sentimental essence of film, while also embracing the convenience of the digital age. It's a balance that resonates deeply with me, even if others can't quite understand why I choose vintage digital cameras over the sleek iPhones and fancy DSLRs of today.
In my collection, each camera holds a unique place, like a dear friend with its own quirks and qualities. Take the Olympus Camedia C-3030, for instance. It's a true trailblazer in the world of digital cameras, reminding me of the excitement and endless possibilities that unfolded when digital photography was still in its infancy. Holding it in my hands, I can almost feel the anticipation that must have surrounded those early digital camera enthusiasts.

Then there's the Samsung ES80, a little gem that surprises me with its versatility and stylish design. It may not be the most renowned model out there, but its simplicity and reliable performance have made it a faithful companion for capturing spontaneous moments. Sometimes, it's the underdogs that steal our hearts, right?

Of course, I couldn't forget the Canon Powershot A2200. Ah, Canon, a name synonymous with excellence in the digital camera world. This particular model combines the crisp image quality I seek with an interface that's friendly even to those new to photography. Holding a Canon camera brings a sense of comfort, knowing that it will faithfully capture the essence of the scenes before me.

Then there's the charming Papershoot Camera, a delightful creation made from recycled paper. It is such a unique camera and it takes me back to the roots of photography, reminding me of the simple joy of composing a photograph. Its minimalist nature encourages me to slow down and appreciate the artistry of each shot. In a world that moves at a rapid pace, this camera is a soothing reminder to take things one click at a time.

And last but not least, my dear Sony Cybershot DSC-V1, a perfect blend of vintage aesthetics and modern features. Its sleek design, reminiscent of the film cameras of yesteryears, captures breathtaking images that transport me to another time. It's a testament to the fact that technology can be infused with the spirit of the past, resulting in a harmonious blend of old and new.

I realize that not everyone understands my fascination with vintage digital cameras. After all, we live in a world where smartphones and fancy DSLRs dominate the market. But for me, it goes beyond technical specifications and trends. It's about the emotional connection, the way these cameras transport me to a different era, filling me with a sense of nostalgia and inspiration. I could talk about my cameras for hours and not get tired of it.
Through my collection, I'm reminded of the sheer joy that photography brings me, the unique perspective it offers. Each camera tells a story, capturing fragments of time that I can revisit whenever I desire. As I continue to explore the world through the lens of these vintage digital cameras, I'm filled with gratitude for the way they ignite my imagination and transport me to a different time and place.
Until next time.

SONY Cyber-shot DSC-V1
Tumblr media

Day 86/365. Friday, November 25, 2006. (2006/2018. Sony Cybershot DSC-V1 / iPhone 7.) Nearly 3 full months thru the project, and I was still shooting with the Cybershot. By this point, I had to have gotten used to setting up an impromptu studio. Every photo was a lesson. I had also gotten used to making a post every day—some self-portrait, and maybe writing about it. I had been blogging without photography content for about a year before I began the 365 Days Project, but daily content hadn’t been the defining aspect of the undertaking. * And then I began trying to teach myself standard beauty shots. And as anyone who’s attempted self-portraiture knows, whatever portrait style you’re attempting, it’s ten times harder to do it as a self-portrait. The logistics are a process to master. * But have you noticed I haven’t mentioned the fashion yet? Oh, why even mention the fashion at the moment—choosing the clothing and accessories are the fun part. Beauty shots necessitate a far greater hell—focus on the make-up and hair styling. And that also was a thing I’d be doing for myself. I’m not saying I was the only photographer experiencing this learning curve—the Flickr 365 Days group was increasing in membership every day. But as a woman who’d always loved affordable fashion and accessories, but never really liked make-up as much—except for just wowing thru the tons of colors in the drug store make-up aisle— I had the added commitment of becoming my own suitable-for-closeups make-up artist. Not as easy as it sounds. And overall, the whole project—on a daily basis—is more time-consuming than one first expects. #art #woman #blogger #fashion #narrative #archive #photography #selfportrait #selfie #00sfashion #iphoneography #Flickr #diptych #365days #archive https://www.instagram.com/p/BryhLi1gvhx/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1g5h2j9g08na8

Day 71/365. Friday, November 10, 2006. (2006/2018. Sony Cybershot DSC-V1.) I’d started the daily self-portrait project in September. By November, I was utilizing photography and fiction writing in concert with each other. I was several posts into a serialized online fiction story which in 2008 helped win me an Excellence in Literary Arts Award from Staten Island Arts—the borough’s arts council, then known as the Council on the Arts & Humanities for Staten Island (COAHSI). • I conceptualized this photo as a visual to complement the short story’s Magical Realism influences. I was raised Catholic in an Italian-American neighborhood in Brooklyn, New York, and lived half a city block away from a small Catholic shrine. The melding of urban fashion and Catholic signifiers was my daily reality, making an overall imprint on my consciousness that I would eventually begin to work out in fiction, photography, and nonfiction metatexts about my creative work. The cross necklace seen here is a mass market, chainstore-purchased accessory, but it reflects what the character is—there’s a secularization of the cross into fashion in late 20th century America that’s part of being blended into the rest of urban & suburban youth culture. The character is very much a statement on that. (Also, I moved away from wearing gold jewelry in my mid-teens. There’s a whole essay to be written on this shift for me, but I’ll get to that in a later post.) • #art #woman #blogger #fashion #narrative #archive #photography #selfportrait #selfie #00sfashion #iphoneography #Flickr #diptych #365days #archive https://www.instagram.com/p/Brp06uagXPl/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=g6jbdfaqi354

i like the tile. and the mirror. (2006. Sony Cybershot DSC-V1) Also in Atlantic City. As I mentioned, I’d just begun carrying the camera around to general visual & supplemental content for my blog. This bathroom mirror selfie brought to you by my fangirling tiles & ornate mirrors—these in MIXX at the Borgata. Still continuing to have a good hair day is me, a girl in a brown cotton halter you can’t see much of here—but more importantly, a freshwater pearl bracelet procured in a small artist-curated Key West boutique. 👱‍♀️☝🏻One doesn’t just shop for souvenirs on vacation; one seeks out local artist fashion.😉🙌🏻 I’m 30 in this photo, but my fashion philosophy had probably been shopping for at least a hundred years. #art #woman #blogger #fashion #narrative #archive #photography #selfportrait #selfie #00sfashion #iphoneography #Flickr #AtlanticCity #Borgata https://www.instagram.com/p/BrirABlgZM1/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1jlkz1rxeag2w
