San Francisco Bay Area to Napa and Sonoma
Traveling from the energetic San Francisco Bay Area to the peaceful Napa and Sonoma Valley scenery is evidence of California's multifaceted appeal. The famous Golden Gate Bridge, which begins in San Francisco and spans the bay, links vibrant neighborhoods like Fisherman's Wharf—known for its seafood restaurants and sea lions sunning themselves—with the artsy Mission District, which is noted for its vibrant murals and trendy cafés. As you travel north, the urban sprawl gives way to vineyards and rolling hills as you enter Napa Valley, which is known throughout the world for its highly regarded wines. Spread throughout expansive estates and well-kept gardens, picturesque vineyards can be found all over the place, providing Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay tastings.

💫Inspiration Saturday 💫
Tagged by @spotsandsocks and @daffi-990 - thanks friends!
I’m at a wedding this weekend and I had to drive through some super rural towns to get here and I saw a lot of signs that looked like this
Tumblr media
So I’ve got a fic idea kicking around where the 118 is a small town firehouse.
If you had told Eddie a year ago he’d be moving to Sonoma California, a city that isn’t actually a city because there’s only around 10,000 people living there, to be a firefighter, he’d have laughed in your face.
Well actually, he wouldn’t have because he’s never been rude in that kind of way. His rudeness manifests more as pettiness and, according to his sisters, bitchy looks.
But here he is, standing in the middle of a shockingly modern firehouse before his first shift.
He’d been planning on LA. He’d gone through the fire academy there and had offers from a few houses there, but he’d gotten a call from Bobby Nash, the fire chief for Sonoma County with an offer for him he couldn’t pass up.
Bobby had promised a firehouse that was more like a family, assistance in finding excellent childcare, a pretty big stipend for moving costs, and a salary that was comparable to LA. Couple that with the fact that Adriana was in grad school at Berkeley an hour away, well he really couldn’t say no.
No pressure tagging @monsterrae1 @thewolvesof1998 @eddiebabygirldiaz @forthewolves @rosieposiepuddingnpie @acountrygirlsfun @forthewolves @wildlife4life and anyone else who wants to!

drunk married in Vegas fic is ALWAYS a good idea omg
A god tier trope, tbh, that I wish didn't pop into my head while I was 14k deep in writing something else. But I will always back any number of stupid reasons for in the drunk Vegas wedding shenanigans that means they can't get a quickie divorce after. My disbelief: permanently suspended to make this work.
Drunk married in Vegas and then Hangman and Phoenix can't get divorced because Cyclone made them all promise not to do anything stupid. There are promotions on the line and the heat of pretending they were in a fake relationship is better than admitting they had too much Cuervo and got married by an Elvis impersonator at the Viva Las Vegas chapel while Lilo & Stitch played on repeat in the background. ("The Navy doesn't let people with first marriages as short as Britney's command their own squadrons, Bagman.") So now everyone thinks they're boning FOR SURE, but that Mr & Mrs Smith antagonism is because they're too busy lying to themselves about how fake their marriage is, sublimating their desire to actually bone into goading each other by putting up hideous curtains and the gaudiest dinner set Williams Sonoma had in stock. Bob makes the mistake of stopping by unannounced to gift them a stand mixer only to find Hangman aggressively painting over in neon green a dining table in the shape of a nose from the RPattz furniture collection that Phoenix spent two month's salary on -- "Joint accounts, baby!" he shouts from the dining room while Phoenix "accidentally" throws her bright red Christmas socks in the laundry with his dress whites before telling Bob that the marriage is going great, they're creating precious memories everyday.

People in the Boston to DC corridor are mostly fucked up for reasons unrelated to religion. Well, that's not strictly true; you *could* relate this to many of the religions than exerted an influence on the culture of the region. But the people here arent fucked up because of their specific religion. It's more of a cultural patois of Quaker-Shaker Puritanism, Irish-Italian Catholicism, Boston Brahminism, and Judaism that shmears itself over everything like a bagel.
Some people respond to this cultural vacua by pretending to be Native Americans. Others assert their state identity through niche brands of seafood seasoning. Still others decide their truth from the Willams-Sonoma catalog, and dream of one day moving to California to open a vineyard in Napa. (You can't do that anymore, by the way. They made laws about it.)
Most marry for children, three of them, who will learn chess and piano. Or maybe violin if they're fuck ups. Dreams of Harvard, not Brown. College applications start in private kindergartens. Art and music are hobbies, not goals, not for you. A career, unspecified, but professional. Suit and tie. Something less shameful than your parents. Rub noses now with the children of the elite because you are the elite now, you're born in the bubble, your father works hard for this (your classmates fathers are business class drunks) we can't afford to waste this.
Dating is mandatory and out of the question. Sex is for pleasure and pleasure is a sin, you will marry not for love but for wedding photos. Most important day of your life will be the divorce that never comes, shared custody wont make those children's college applications shine (and you dont deserve better) so take a mistress when the bedroom dies, but make sure she's uglier than your wife or theyll both make you regret it.
Maybe you'll find happiness. Better put it back where you found it, there's no god to punish you for your indulgence, to keep you on track, instead you need to learn self-regulation and self-discipline to build your kingdom so you can hand it down to your children. Remember, it's all a privilege denied to many, not everyone has had the advantages you have, don't waste it!

Happy #LatinoHeritageMonth! This image of Francisca Benicia Carrillo de Vallejo was taken in 1871. Francisca was the wife to Mexican General Mariano Vallejo and the California town of Benecia is named after her. Francisca was born in 1815 in San Diego to a Californios pioneer family and moved to Sonoma after her marriage. On the day of her wedding, she gave her dowry to the church. From our online catalog

this prompt is a jesus quote for my favorite bisexual messiah figure ava silva: “father, let this cup pass from me”
you have lived for so long; you have lived for so much longer than you ever thought you would.
you watch her from the sink in the kitchen, two glasses of pinot noir poured, her body pressed against the balcony railing and your dog sleeping at her feet. she's older now, but she still stands straight-backed, regal, serious. time has been such a gift; your back aches most days and her right hand hurts in the rain, never quite healed from a break during a battle so long ago. her hair is going grey, still long and wavy down her back. she's barefoot, as she often is now, a few tattoos — promises and prayers and reverent memories — peeking out of her loose cashmere sweater, the sleeves pulled up around her elbows even as the night grows cold.
your heart roots, all over again, in your chest as she twists her wedding band around her finger and a little smile lights up her face.
the sunset lights up her body, orange and breathtaking, her face thrown into relief when she lifts her hand to shade her eyes. you know everything about her: the church of her hips; the way her back still arches when you suck her clit into your mouth and kneel at her feet; the way she laughs, quiet and magic, when she reads something funny; the fruit she slices every morning and the flowers she brings you in the crook of her arm.
there has been, you are sure, in your soul, no love like yours. she had built you an altar and you had worshipped at it every day.
you pick up the glasses, elegant crystal she had picked years ago that she replaces with a harmless sigh every time you break one. you pad out to her, and when you get to her side she accepts the glass and then kisses you on the temple.
'thank you, darling.'
you've lived away from england for a long time, but her accent hasn't faded a bit. 'you okay?'
she hums; you are all hurting and haunted and human, after all this time. 'father, let this cup pass from me.'
'hmm,' you say, 'so... that's a no?'
she laughs, just once, humorless. 'just remembering. i had — a hard day.'
it's a lot for her to admit, even still: she had watched you die. 'thank you for telling me,' you say. 'wanna talk about it?'
she swallows, then shakes her head, turns toward you and touches your face with a kind of reverence that still shakes you to your core. 'no,' she says. 'i'm all right.'
you lift your glass, the red shining in the sun sinking below the horizon. 'well, this wine is, like, way too expensive to waste on... guilt, or ache, or whatever you're feeling.'
you wait for a moment but then you're rewarded, like you'd known you would be, with a real laugh. 'and who paid for that?'
'we have a joint bank account.'
her smile lights up her eyes, the sun reflected in them: sweeping and wide and sacred. they wrinkle around the edges, mostly from laughing over the years.
she relents, as you'd known she would; she lifts her glass and clinks it with yours, closes her eyes and swirls the wine around, smells it and then takes a sip. she hums a little, turns back to you.
'better than communion?'
she tucks a strand of hair behind your ear, settles her fingers against your collarbone. 'you are the most beautiful thing i've ever seen.'
'i love you.'
she kisses your cheek. 'and, yes, sonoma pinot is better than communion wine, for as much as i remember.'
you laugh, lace your fingers with hers, and lead her inside. the dog follows you when you call and you settle on the couch, curl into bea’s still-strong side. you drink your wine and you get her to laugh, a lot, eventually; you kiss that long healed scar on her shoulder and she rests her hand on your spine.

What can I say... except that I’m feeling defeated amidst the storm of eugenic gaslighting and COVID minimization constantly swirling around us. It is a dark time to be in public health, but it’s even more devastating when your own field turns against its own alleged values. Oktoberfest in Sonoma at Vintage House
Overcast autumn weather didn’t dampen the enthusiasm of the crowds that showed up for the second annual Oktoberfest at Sonoma’s Vintage House on Saturday, October 12.
Lines gathered outside Vintage House eager to join in the festivities which began promptly at 3:00 PM and continued until 6:00 PM that evening. The Joe Smiell Band stirred up the atmosphere with Volksmusik, the traditional style of music that is associated with Oktoberfest.
While various celebrations of autumn abound in many forms, unlike the ancient trace origins of Halloween and Harvest festivals, Oktoberfest isn’t that old. Back in October of 1810 the then Crown Prince Ludwig (who later became king) and Princess Therese of Saxe-Hildburghausen celebrated their wedding in Munich.
As the United States is a melting pot of many people and cultures from around the world, some estimates calculate that from 1800 to the present-day, over 7 million people of German/Austrian descent emigrated to America. The apex of the migration was between 1840-1914.
The contribution they made is often over-looked. Educational approaches and concepts like “Kindergarten,” classical music through such legendary musical geniuses such as Mozart and Beethoven, etc.
Yet, perhaps the most overlooked influence of German culture upon America is through food. The seemingly “all-American” hot dog, hamburger and apple pie can trace some of its roots to Germany & Austria; specifically the Bavarian region.
It is the Bavarian region that most people like to remember Germany and Austria as, more so than the outburst of WWII and its immediate aftermath Of the 20th Century.
Bavaria lends itself to a more welcoming and romantic environment. This is something that all of Sonoma County can relate to, sharing in common especially as stunning vistas, mountains, hills and valleys are also well-known in the Bavarian countryside.
Even if Sonoma has been mostly Italian and Spanish/Mexican in most of its cultural history the one thing that just about everyone can relate to at an Oktoberfest is the food.
There was plenty of bratwurst sausages (often typical made of veal, beef and or pork) served with Sauerkraut, potatoes apple strudel, and of course, a pretzel. And attendees that Saturday afternoon were satiated with a bounty of beverages, particularly beer, wine and hard cider.
A number of people showed up dressed in dirndl, lederhosen and a Tyrolean or alpine style hat. The auditorium was arrayed in the traditional ‘Weiss and Blau’ (white & blue) diamond motif that some people say represents the clouds and blue skies of Bavaria.
As The Joe Smiell Band continued to play, regardless of dancing skill or experience many people joined in the Schuhplattler, a thigh-slapping and foot-stomping dance characteristic of an Oktoberfest celebration.
Pleased that the 2nd annual Oktoberfest fundraiser was well-attended, Vintage House, Board of Directors, President, Holly Seaton, PhD spoke to the crowd mentioning that… “$15,000 was raised last year.”
And, that “the funds raised at this year’s Oktoberfest helps to fund operation costs, she said, which allows Vintage House to continue providing over 60 weekly classes, programs and valuable services for seniors within Sonoma Valley.”
As a unique senior center the basic mission of Vintage House is to enhance the quality of life for Seniors and their families. It is only the senior center of its kind, serving all of Sonoma Valley Valley. Vintage House hosts an ever-expanding array of programs and services for its members and the broader community.
In addition to a silent auction, a ‘Munzautomat’ — a life-size slot machine was built by David Seyms, the operations manager at Vintage House. And, it along with all the activities made for an enjoyable gathering.
Seaton thanked the many people who worked to make the Oktoberfest a sellout hit of a celebration. Especially acknowledging Cogir Assisted Living & Memory Care who provided a smorgasbord of food, “just as it did last year,” she said.
Olde Sonoma Public House supplied the beer and was the biergarten sponsor, offering guests three Octoberfest-style brews. And, Wines poured were donated from Sangiacomo Family Wines, Larson Family Winery and Jam Cellars.
Pomme Cider Shop & Tap Room of Sonoma provided the refreshing hard cider and Brocco’s Barn of Sonoma on Arnold Drive donated dozens of haystacks and rustic accompaniments to give the event that fall season feeling.
Seaton and staff at Vintage House look forward to another Oktoberfest next year and hopefully many more years to come.
