Rewatched that one Uglies fan trailer I did a few months before the real one finally came out, and it feels so strange because it has such a different atmosphere.

Much more quiet and low-key and lesser mainstream, and all the focus on Tally and Shay. And instead of a focus on action focus on this quiet dread of feeling that there is something very wrong in the background.

Not a single of my favorite lines of dialogue I used in this was actually in the movie. Neither that homoerotic moment between Tally and Shay about Shay trying to convince Tally how beautiful she is, nor Dr. Cable claiming the City is a paradise and using that to justify the existence of Special Circumstances.

Focusing on Joey King and Brianne Tju being too pretty for the role is a red herring from the actual themes of the series, but I cast Lyric Ross as Tally and Soni Bringas as Shay in that fan trailer, and while they are not sixteen, they are much younger than the real actors, and really seeing how they are still children makes this so creepy.

I don't even think the movie is that bad? Definitely has massive pacing issues and definitely takes out a lot of nuance and tries too hard to be mainstream, but its not bad. But I expected such a different atmosphere, and I only truly realized that now.
