TW: Spoilers for The Outsiders By S.E.Hinton, Talking about death, Alcohol and Suicide
If you're familiar with S.E. Hinton's classic novel "The Outsiders," then you probably know all about Dallas “Dally” Winston, the quintessential bad boy of Tulsa who's always causing trouble and ending up in the cooler (jail). He's a complex character pivotal to the book's plot development. Recently, while listening to music and contemplating the parallels between Dallas Winston and to the songs I was listening to, I noticed a striking correlation. Specifically, McCafferty's songs "Trees," "Bottom," and "Beachboy" encapsulate the essence of Dallas Winston's character archetype This observation compelled me to write this essay, which delves into the thematic connections between McCafferty's music and the portrayal of Dallas Winston in "The Outsiders."
The First song I will be covering is the song ‘Beachboy’ Which is track 6 off of the 2014 Album Beachboy This song was the song that made me initially link Dallas Winston to the band. This song could be confusing and have a lot of different meanings but the interpretation I am going with is put best by the authors at Songtell “is about accepting change and making the best of the situation. It speaks to the idea of growing up and taking on responsibilities, even when it is difficult or uncomfortable to do so.” (Songtell) Overall the song has the vibe of an angst-filled teenager who you gave access to a guitar and a music editing software, but a few parts of the song stuck out to me in particular when I heard the song with the idea of it representing Dallas. The first quote that represents Dallas Winston is “She says, ‘Your lips tasted like they did way back in July’/ Headaches and overdose I Hope that we never die”. While it's never fully stated where Dallas lives. Lots - if not all of fan theories and fan fiction - believe that he lives at Buck Merrill's Barin a spare bedroom when he isn't crashing on Curtis’s couch. Buck, is stated to be a shifty character “Buck Merril was Dally's rodeo partner…and made most of his money on fixed races and a little bootlegging” (Hinton 52) Buck along with earning money dishonestly was a troublemaker similar to Dallas, stated in the same paragraph “he used to be bucktoothed before he had the front two knocked out in a fight.” Buck Merril was also known for throwing parties and all around not being a safe individual so much so that The main character of the book Ponyboy was instructed by both of his older brothers to not be caught WIthin the proximity of his Barand he was happy to abide “I was under strict orders from both Darry and Soda not to get caught within ten miles of his place, which was dandy with me”(Hinton 52). Ponyboy notes that some of the events at Buck's parties leaned to the more adult sides of things “I was remembering what usually went on in the bedrooms at Buck's parties…” (Hinton 52). It should also be stated that in Pre-Book events Dallas had a girlfriend named Sylvia. Sylvia was Dallas's girlfriend but while Dallas was in Jail for one of many reasons she cheated on him. Dallas says this Himself to Steve on page 13 of the book “‘You break up with Sylvia again?" ‘Yeah, and this time it's for good. That little broad was two-timin' me again while I was in jail.’”(Hinton 13) Knowing where Dallas stays his past relations with Sylvia and potential future relations with Cherry Valance and any other girl that Dallas will flirt with You can assume that he has taken at least Sylvia to Buck's place to party, this relates to the song Beachboy By McCafferty because the second paragraph has the line “She says, ‘Your lips tasted like they did way back in July’/ Headaches and overdose I Hope that we never die” The ‘She’ in this scenario could be Sylvia because Dallas has been thrown in jail so many times one could infer that they go long periods without seeing each other which explains why she cheated on him and could explain the line “Like they did way back in July” following up with that, knowing buck is a shady character known throwing parties you could also make the argument that “headaches and overdose” could be hangovers and poor decisions being made while hanging out with Buck and Sylvia.
The next set of lines off of Beach Boy that describe Dallas are the lines “And I know that you think that I don't care / About all the friends I left behind” which would make sense,If there is two words to describe Dallas winston it would be Cold and callous, Ponyboy makes that Exceptionally clear when describing him even if not those word exactly anytime Dallas is described in the book it is always made clear about his bitterness and hatred towards the world one example being “His eyes were blue, blazing ice, cold with a hatred of the whole world.” (Hinton 10) and then in the same paragraph “the warfare is between the social classes… Maybe that was why Dallas was so bitter.”(Hinton 10) with descriptions like that anyone would assume Dallas Winston is some Unbridaled hate machine, another example being “One time, in a dime store, a guy told him to move over at the candy counter. Dally had turned around and belted him so hard it knocked a tooth loose. A complete stranger, too” (Hinton 22) Dallas is willing to hit a *STRANGER* so hard it knocks a tooth out However, it's stated that Dallas has a soft spot for Johnny Cade over any of the other members of the gang this is made clear after Johnny Scolded Dallas for harassing Cherry Valance and Marcia At the drive in “Dallas scowled for a second. If it had been me, or Two-Bit, or Soda or Steve, or anyone but Johnny, Dally would have flattened him without a moment's hesitation. You just didn't tell Dally Winston what to do … But Johnny was the gang's pet, and Dally just couldn't hit him. He was Dally's pet, too.”(Hinton 22) All of this is to say that Dallas reminds me of this set of lines because Dallas goes even further to protect his friends than just not hitting them, Dallas is seen as a hardened criminal by the group, due to his time spent in the “Wild side of New York'' and his character all around, after Johnny Kills Bob the Soc Johnny and Ponyboy Run to Bucks bar to go to Dallas for help and without a second thought he helps them, Giving them a loaded gun and 50$ cash to buy groceries, on page 53 “Dally appeared after a minute. He carefully shut the door. "Here"--- he handed us a gun and a roll of bills--- "the gun's loaded. For Pete's sake, Johnny, don't point the thing at me. Here's fifty bucks. That's all I could get out of Merril tonight He's blowin' his loot from that last race."(Hinton 53) This is Major enough Dallas also gives Johnny and Ponyboy the location of an old church to hide out in Windrixville and on top of all of this Dallas lies to the police on their behalf to keep the cops from looking for them In Tulsa, or Windrixville Oklahoma “‘The fuzz won't be lookin' for you around here," Dally said, lighting up. "They think you've lit out for Texas…”(69) Now Dallas has had his fair run share of run-ins with the police before, and Johnny didn't Just pull some small-time thievery he killed a man, Dallas knew how much trouble he could get in for helping Johnny and Ponyboy out here, He was now an accessory to a crime but he still did it for them because he cared about them. While Dallas may have left the rest of the gang behind, literally when he killed himself via cop shoot-out at the end of the book he died caring for them he died because Johnny was the only thing keeping him afloat, he is also shown caring up until the end with his last words being “Ponyboy” He Died angry at the world yet in the same vein he died caring about his friends until his last moments. Lookism Men x Reader/Y/N (If their relationship were a romantic pop-punk/rock song)
pairing: character x reader Warnings: none! just pure entertainment (slight angst?)
Daniel Park (Park Hyung Seok)
youtube
I'll describe Daniel's crush's on Y/N as this song, why? Remember him having a crush on Crystal and Yui? Yeah when he wants to confess his feelings for you he felt like you'll going to judge and reject him which he's so tired about it. "And why, all the possibilities, where I was wrong". Remember when he thought Yui really respects chubby people? Just because she's nice to his second body doesn't really means that she's genuine about her statement. Just because she said that she's fine with chubby people to his "handsome body" doesn't mean that she really likes him for who he really was (not that she knows about his situation about his bodies but still). So the possibilities of Yui liking his other body back was just a high expectation that Daniel have and in the end he got disappointed by his interaction with her in his other body. "That's what you get when you let your heart win" like the song quotes. He gets hurt when he confesses his feelings to someone and doesn't receive the same affection. So if Yui discriminated his original body and Crystal judges his second one just because he's handsome, he'll be so scared about his crush on you so I really associate this song with him about his feelings :(
Song meaning (based on Lyric Interpretation):
I almost wonder if this isn't like an "I told you so" kind of song where a past love wronged her and it turned around and bit them in the rear.
The other thought I had is that its a song about getting over be depressed that love can hurt, and getting over the bumps in relationships. I mean she says "I burned every bridge I ever build when you were here" meaning she gave up a lot of things to be with them, but at the end she says "I can't trust myself with anything but this" meaning she's confident in her decision.
Zack Lee (Lee Jin Sung)
youtube
Another Paramore song! (I mean who doesn't love Paramore). I interpret this song as having a crush on someone and wanting more than just being friends. I think it perfectly fits Zack. "Nothing compares to a quiet evening alone. Just the one, two, I was just counting on. That never happens, I guess I'm dreaming again. Let's be more than this" I think the second to the last part of the chorus is Zack "dreaming" for a romantic relationship with you which he can't tell straight despite his affection being obvious. And "that never happens" line in my understanding is that him breaking out of his dreams and thoughts thinking to himself that you'll never be his. Him being able to express his love and devotion to you through act of service and gentle actions, being the role of the protector between the two of you yet he can't seem to tell his true feelings for you through words makes him hurt so much deep inside though he doesn't show it too much.
Song meaning (based on Songtell):
"Crushcrushcrush" by Paramore is a song about wanting to have an intimate connection with someone and to be more than just friends. It speaks of the feeling of being trapped in a situation where all you can do is watch the object of your affection from afar. The song expresses frustration, as the singer wishes they could break free of their feelings of helplessness and express their desires openly. The lyrics express the need to break down the walls of inhibition and silence, to free the person who has been “taped over” and let the truth be known. Ultimately, the song speaks to the desire for a romantic relationship and to take it far beyond the platonic or just the surface level of an emotional connection.
Eli Jang (Jang Hyun)
youtube
Please listen to this song it's so BEAUTIFULLLLLL I LOVE MCR (I mean it's okay if you don't want to but still). I feel like this would be Eli's song with you. In my interpretation, this song is about all the terrible things and challenging events in you life that can overwhelm you. It's about how traumatizing things that happened in a person's life can affect their mental state so much and it really hurts. But the line "'Cause the world is ugly, but you're beautiful to me" and saying this genuinely to someone who is struggling about their personal problems can really hit them to the core. Saying this genuinely to your special someone (whenever it is a family member, lover, or bestfriend/friend) can really make them feel appreciated and loved. And who else can we associate this song with? Eli's childhood was sh*tty considering that many people abused him and the ones who actually loves/loved him will either leave. But meeting you in good terms and forming a strong bond with him can make him more open about his feelings. Considering that Hostel, Yenna and you are the only people who he felt who values and loves him makes his heart swell so much. The world might be against him now, but your beautiful smile and personality along with Yenna's melts his ice cold heart >3. (I also think that Daniel fits this song too)
Song meaning (based on Lyric Interpretation):
First of all, this song is extremely beautiful and it means so much to me. I don't know where I'd be without it. But nobody wants to hear me complain about my life, they came here for people's guesses on what the song means. Personally, I feel like the song is saying that society is a fucked up place, and it'll be rude and judgmental and just ugly. Gerard is saying that despite the fact that the world is ugly, he thinks that 'you' are beautiful to him. I believe 'you' is the fans. I believe this whole song was made for fans, and maybe Bandit, too. It's just a beautiful song with a great meaning, and I love it. Hope this was detailed enough lol. (Also after reading this listen to The Light Behind Your Eyes. It's also very beautiful, and it's probably the reason I'm still alive.)
Vasco (Lee EunTae)
youtube
This another MCR song sounds too pure like Vasco man. This song really sounds nostalgic, sad yet happy at the same time. Just running away from your problems and enjoying life seems fun, which fits Euntae's energy so much I luv it.
Song meaning (based on Lyric Interpritations)
I think the song is about people that you love in general, friends and lovers in particular. The line "Turn my headphones up real loud" represents trying to tune out real life and the people that are trying to pull you down, and "I don't think I need them now, 'cause you stop the noise" is abou meeting those people, who understand and are messed up too, but slowly bring you out of the trance you get into ignore real life, and will guide you through the dark times, holding your hand and stumbling with you.
The lyric "You can write it on your arm" is about Gerard and Lyn-Z (like the whole song, but that line in particular for me) on tour together, and Lyn-Z wrote 'You can run away with me' on her arm during her set, and Gerard wrote 'Anytime you want' on his. The song as a whole is about those people you meet who pull you out of your sleep, and make you wake up to real life, the good, beautiful things, and although they can't sheild you from the bad stuff, they protect you and stay with you throughout it.
Jay Hong (Hong Jae Yol) and Warren Chae (Chae Won Seok)
youtube
Despite the hidden dirtiness behind this Avril Lavigne song (search it up if you want). It still sounds sweet for me at least. We all know Jay and Warren are not the best with expressing themselves with words (like Zack but theirs are just a bit worse). So I think this song fits them a lot. Just them stuttering and unable to say what they want to say to you, that they love you so much. "Marry me today, guess I'm wishing my life away. With these things I'll never say".
A/N: Part 2 of this with Jake, Goo, Gun, Johan and other characters I hope you like this song picks and it's a pleasure to share my music taste to you even if you don't like rock lol. Goodnight and stay safe :)

The Rizzness Pt.2
I've always wished for a slightly heavier song from Taemin and here it is! I really love this song and the lyrics and
''He describes staying silent and enduring icy criticism as he waits for his moment. Despite the adversities, he remains calm and doesn't make unnecessary statements. The lyrics suggest a feeling of isolation and the need to protect yourself from negativity.''
source: Songtell
youtube
Fans who might like his ballads more might not like this Song as much, but that's exactly what I like about Taemin. He does his thing without conforming to expectations .
And he doesn't adapt so much to western music tastes, but people still like him more and more... Without having released a single English language song (and so far without using the *beep* word 😁). Personally, I hope it stays that way. I love these songs the way I got to know them: with Korean and Japanese lyrics.

The song "High" by Stephen Sanchez appears to revolve around the theme of intense desire and infatuation. The lyrics depict a passionate longing for someone, to the point where the protagonist is willing to go to great lengths to make the other person experience intense emotions.
In the first verse, the lyrics suggest that the protagonist wants to awaken the other person from a state of indifference ("Pull you underneath the slumber") and experience a profound connection ("Into the light before the thunder"). There is a sense of curiosity about where their relationship stands, perhaps indicating uncertainty or complexity.
The chorus reinforces the intensity of the protagonist's desire, emphasizing their intent to evoke strong emotions in the other person. The use of imagery such as getting someone "high" and the physical reactions like reeling and kneeling suggests a desire for an overwhelming and transformative experience.
The second verse reveals the inner conflict of the protagonist. They acknowledge that their infatuation has escalated to a level they may question or consider inappropriate ("Look how out of hand it's gotten"). However, they admit that they cannot let go of their longing and would willingly express their emotions if given the chance.
Overall, "High" expresses a passionate yearning for someone, where the protagonist is willing to push boundaries and take risks to create an intense emotional connection. The song captures the intoxicating and thrilling nature of desire, albeit with hints of uncertainty or ambiguity in the relationship.

today's song: 16th july, 2024 - 'Waiting for the Moon to Rise' by Belle and Sebastian (2000)
'songtell' description: "Waiting for the Moon to Rise" by Belle and Sebastian depicts a longing for something out of reach and the anticipation of a new beginning. The song opens with the narrator acknowledging the passing of time and the start of a new day, represented by the sun rising behind them. They find themselves on an unfamiliar path, symbolizing a new journey or experience. The chorus expresses a desire to share this journey with someone, as the narrator dreams of their wishes coming true when they are with that person. There is a sense of hope and fulfillment associated with being together, as if the presence of this individual brings joy and the possibility of realizing their dreams. In the second verse, the day dawns and light illuminates the previously hidden shadows. The narrator tries to shield their eyes from the brightness, possibly signifying their reluctance to fully embrace the present moment or their longing for a quieter, more introspective time. They long for the moon to rise, implying a desire for a softer, more tranquil ambiance. The instrumental section allows for a brief pause, perhaps reflecting a moment of reflection or contemplation on the narrator's part. Overall, "Waiting for the Moon to Rise" portrays a sense of yearning and anticipation for a new chapter in life, a longing for connection, and the simultaneous recognition of the passing of time and the potential for new beginnings. The line between receiving a scholarship and getting arrested was thinner than it should be, and he intertwines the theme of sunny weather to fully show the listener a glimpse into his past life.
personal thoughts: belle and sebastian really hold a special place in my heart. this kind of, melancholic, beautiful melody just sweeps me away in this sense of anticipation, and wanting. just a really nice, beautiful song.
what about you? what are your thoughts on belle and sebastian?

Boys Don't Cry · The Cure
I would say I'm sorry If I thought that it would change your mind But I know that this time I have said too much Been too unkind I tried to laugh about it Cover it all up with lies I tried to laugh about it Hiding the tears in my eyes 'Cause boys don't cry Boys don't cry I would break down at your feet And beg forgiveness, plead with you But I know that it's too late And now there's nothing I can do So I try to laugh about it Cover it all up with lies I try to laugh about it Hiding the tears in my eyes 'Cause boys don't cry Boys don't cry I would tell you that I loved you If I thought that you would stay But I know that it's no use And you've already gone away Misjudged your limits Pushed you too far Took you for granted Thought that you needed me more, more, more Now I would do most anything To get you back by my side But I just keep on laughing Hiding the tears in my eyes 'Cause boys don't cry Boys don't cry Boys don't cry
Meaning & Facts
The Cure‘s Robert Smith has discussed how their classic track ‘Boys Don’t Cry’ continues to challenge gender norms – as well as speaking out to distance the band’s association with the label of “goth”. The art-rock veteran has opened up about the “contemporary resonance” of the iconic 1979 single, after being struck by the make-up of the audience at their acclaimed Glastonbury 2019 headline set back in June. “I was singing [‘Boys Don’t Cry’] at Glastonbury and I realised that it has a very contemporary resonance with all the rainbow stripes and stuff flying in the crowd,” Smith told Rolling Stone. “When I was growing up, there was peer pressure on you to conform to be a certain way. “And as an English boy at the time, you’re encouraged not to show your emotion to any degree. And I couldn’t help but show my emotions when I was younger. I never found it awkward showing my emotions. I couldn’t really continue without showing my emotions; you’d have to be a pretty boring singer to do that. He continued: “So I kind of made a big thing about it. I thought, ‘Well, it’s part of my nature to rail against being told not to do something’.”

Let Her Go · Mac DeMarco
Tell her that you love her If you really love her But if your heart just ain't sure Let her know Growing by the hour Love just like a flower But when the flower dies, you've got to say goodbye And let her go Let her go Let her go Tell her that you'll be there If you'll really be there Separation's supposed to make the heart grow fond But it don't So tell her that you love her If you really love her But if your heart just ain't sure Let her go Let her go Let her go Let her go Let her go Yeah Or you can keep her, it's okay It's up to you Make your own choice, whatever you gotta do God bless
Meaning & Facts
This one is pretty obvious, but here it is.
The song "Let Her Go" by Mac DeMarco is about making the difficult decision to let go of someone you love, even if it might be hard to do. The lyrics suggest that even if your heart isn't sure, sometimes it's best to accept the situation and let the person go so that both of you can find happiness. Even though it might hurt to do so, the song reminds the listener to be honest and kind when making this difficult decision.
Source: Songtell
Honesty is crucial for a healthy relationship, but it can also destroy one. “Let Her Go” sees Mac advocate for complete honesty when it comes to decisions about whether to continue a relationship. It’s unfair to stick with an unhappy one.

Africa · Toto
I hear the drums echoing tonight But she hears only whispers of some quiet conversation She's coming in, 12:30 flight The moonlit wings reflect the stars that guide me towards salvation I stopped an old man along the way Hoping to find some long forgotten words or ancient melodies He turned to me as if to say, "Hurry boy, it's waiting there for you" It's gonna take a lot to take me away from you There's nothing that a hundred men or more could ever do I bless the rains down in Africa Gonna take some time to do the things we never had The wild dogs cry out in the night As they grow restless, longing for some solitary company I know that I must do what's right As sure as Kilimanjaro rises like Olympus above the Serengeti I seek to cure what's deep inside Frightened of this thing that I've become It's gonna take a lot to drag me away from you There's nothing that a hundred men or more could ever do I bless the rains down in Africa Gonna take some time to do the things we never had Hurry boy, she's waiting there for you It's gonna take a lot to drag me away from you There's nothing that a hundred men or more could ever do I bless the rains down in Africa I bless the rains down in Africa (I bless the rain) I bless the rains down in Africa (I bless the rain) I bless the rains down in Africa I bless the rains down in Africa (Ah, gonna take the time) Gonna take some time to do the things we never had
Meaning & Facts
*It played in Stranger Things' "The Vanishing of Will Byers" when Steve and Nancy were making out.
“Africa” is a song recorded by the American rock band Toto. The lyrics of “Africa” capture the quandary of a guy who must choose between his two loves — the continent of Africa and girl he finds therein. The song’s co-writer David Paich (keyboardist and vocalist of Toto) said he was inspired to write the song when during the early 80s, he watched a documentary about the “death and suffering” plaguing many people in Africa. In a 2015 interview, Paich said the song is about a man’s deep love of Africa. Three years later, the songwriter went on to describe the song as one that is about someone flying to a distant land (apparently Africa) to meet a lonely missionary there.

The Cure lead singer Robert Smith wrote this as a wedding present for his fiancée, Mary Poole, shortly before they got married in 1988. Inbetween Days · The Cure
Yesterday I got so old I felt like I could die Yesterday I got so old It made me want to cry Go on, go on, just walk away Go on, go on, your choice is made Go on, go on, and disappear Go on, go on away from here And I know I was wrong When I said it was true That it couldn't be me and be her In between without you Without you Yesterday I got so scared I shivered like a child Yesterday away from you It froze me deep inside Come back, come back Don't walk away Come back, come back Come back today Come back, come back What can't you see? Come back, come back Come back to me And I know I was wrong When I said it was true That it couldn't be me and be her In between without you Without you Without you Without you Without you, without you Without you, without you
Meaning & Facts
The song "In Between Days" by The Cure is about the struggle of accepting a difficult break-up and all the pain that comes with it. The song reflects on the sadness and helplessness of being in between the wrong and the right decision; being in between staying together and splitting up. The lyrics allude to the feelings of loneliness and longing that linger even after a break-up, as well as the inner struggle between loyalty to one's partner and the need to look after oneself. The final chorus serves as a reminder that, no matter the decision made, it will always be painful and that someone will always be left behind.

Person 1 // Interpretation 1: He starts to feel old in his current relationship. Finds an "in between days" girl to keep things fresh. Girlfriend finds out and leaves. He tries to convince her to come back and accept the triangle, but ends up admitting that he'd rather stay with the new girl: "and I know I was wrong when I said it was true that it couldn't be me and be her in between, without you." In other words, he sort of feels like a dick (he is) and regrets hurting his girlfriend, but mostly feels sorry for himself for not getting away with cheating. Person 2 // Interpretation 2: This is VERY good. After buying the album the other day, I finally realized that. The first verse, it seems that the girl really hurt him, and he's basically telling her that he never wants to see her again. The next day, he realizes how much he misses her and that, even though she hurt him, he'd still rather than she be in his life, and he's asking her to come back. And look at this- the lines in the "Go on/come back" parts paralelle each other. "Just walk away/Don't Walk away" "You choice is made/Come back today" (doesn't work exactly) "Just dissappear/Why Can't you see?" "Away from here/come back to me." The title comes from, I think, the moment he realized that he doesn't actually want her to go away- in between the two days. Not really sure about the chorus, but it sounds cool, especially after the verses. So it goes.

Lost Weekend · The So So Glos
You and I, riding high In a landfill building castles We get around while we're alive Stuck in a web with the spiders and flies Singing - Oh-ah-ah-oh-ah-oh-oh Oh-ah-ah-oh-ah-oh-oh Oh-ah-ah-oh-ah-oh-ah-oh And we can't speak Cause' we're in too deep We've grown up eighty-sixed and ended up like this So don't cry You did it as much as I And I'm not gonna be the one to bail you out this time Oh-ah-ah-oh-ah-oh-oh Oh-ah-ah-oh-ah-oh-oh Oh-ah-ah-oh-ah-oh-ah-oh We've been On a Lost Weekend We've been On a Lost weekend I've seen folks walk on high tight ropes But they're more fun To dance across Then at the end of the day when the work weeks' through There's a sign That says "get lost" So we've been drinking far too long We stumble forward Hung up on the past Don't you worry about that my babe These days Weren't built to last We've been On a Lost Weekend (Weekend) We've been On a Lost weekend Lost weekend Ahhh, lost weekend Could you forget the future If it was just a lie? Stuck in a web with the spiders and flies Could you forget the future If I could forget mine? Could you forget the future? Oh!
Meaning & Facts
The So So Glos's song Lost Weekend is a powerful and evocative expression of the sense of disillusionment and frustration that can accompany early adulthood. The song's lyrics convey a sense of dislocation and aimlessness as the narrator and their companion wander through life, feeling disconnected and out of step with the world around them. This theme is powerfully expressed in the line "We grown up 86'd and ended up like this," which speaks to the sense of loss and missed opportunity that pervades much of the song. Despite the melancholy tone of much of the song, there are also moments of defiance and determination. The refrain "We've been on a lost weekend" speaks to a sense of camaraderie and shared experience that transcends individual pain and isolation. The narrator seems to be urging their companion to embrace this sense of community and to draw strength from it, even as they confront the harsh realities of adult life. This tension between hope and disappointment is one of the most compelling aspects of Lost Weekend, and it is a testament to the skill and insight of The So So Glos as songwriters. Overall, Lost Weekend is a poignant and affecting expression of the challenges and joys of early adulthood. The song captures the sense of dislocation and uncertainty that so many young people feel as they navigate a complex and often bewildering world, and it does so with a degree of honesty and raw emotional power that is truly remarkable.

Zenzenzense · RADWIMPS
At last, hello you’ve opened your eyes But, why won’t you even look me in the eyes, what’s wrong with you? You angrily tell me that I’m late Well, I’m sorry, but I did my best and running at my fastest pace My heart overtook my body as it flew to find you in this place Seeing your hair flowing and your bright eyes glowing aches my very core Wish I could breathe in the same dimension, I don’t want to let it go Now that I am finally faced with the voice I’ve known for so long I don’t know what the words should be the very first I say to you Back in the zenzenzense ‘til this day been looking everywhere for you I followed the sound of your innocent laughter and it guided me in the right way Even if every piece of you disappeared and if it scattered everywhere No, I wouldn’t waver, I would start back at one look for you all over again Or maybe instead I’ll take the whole universe right back to zero again Where should I start? How should I explain? Wanna tell you everything that happened while you were in a long long dream I flew through dozens of skies To tell you adventures I’ve been through hundreds of millions of light years’ worth But now I’m here, finally seeing you reflected in my eyes I just want to know you, play around and show you who it is that you can be I just want to love you, every fragment of you right down to the pain you feel Now that we have finally met at many galaxies’ end I don’ t know how to hold your hand so that I don’t break it Back in the zenzenzense ‘til this day been looking everywhere for you Oh, I let the sound of your unfettered voice and the shedding of tears lead me this way So tell me, who will ever gonna stop us on this the eve of our revolution No more hesitation I will put up a flag to stake my claim on your heart tonight ‘Cause you took away from me the will to give up so clearly and awkwardly I wonder if we can push our way through The countless barriers that’s waiting in the future just beyond our view Side by side, no way we can lose We’ll beat destiny at its own game and make it follow our own rules And there isn’t any weapon besides you that I need to use Zenzenzense ‘til this day been looking everywhere for you I followed the sound of your innocent laughter and it guided me in the right way Even if every piece of you disappeared and if it scattered everywhere No, I wouldn’t waver, I would start back at one look for you all over again For millions of light years yet to come with a verse on my lips that will never end
