My District 13 au

Coryo and Lucy Gray fled in this AU and ended up in district 13. Despite being safe and Coryo rose to power eventually in 13, they both hated it there. The place is no way to live a life. They made improvements but a pox outbreak happened and their son nearly dying had her husband later fully joined 13 to the rebellion. Coryo then was "elected" as President of Panem (she knows) and they moved to the Capitol and her last two children were born and grew up in the Capitol. Having raised children in district 13 where everything is surveillanced and under tight control especially before Coryo's presidency, they raised their children to trust family first and never lie to them ("lies can get you killed").

Lucy Gray is not exactly strict to her children aside from the "no lie" rule so her children gets a way with almost everything. Their shenanigans(especially Orpheus Sage's and Thalia Rose's) will never get them disowned or taken out of the will by Coryo because there will be hell to pay if he does.

People usually go to Lucy Gray first when they want her husband to approve something. They catch on that if they get Lucy Gray on their side, Coryo is more likely to accept their request or proposals.

In district 13, of course she'll find ways and loop holes to laws and rules to get what she wants (mostly to sing and for pretty things). She'd sew her clothes, make flowers out of the leftover pieces of cloth, scraps and other items she can turn to trinkets. She'd style her dull jump suit, anything really to give life to that man hole of a district

What if the "weird" district names in the Hunger Games only sound like actual things because the Capitol mispronounces them? So "Mizzen" is a part of a ship, sure, but the name Mizzen is actually pronounced in a different way than the word mizzen. Maybe the i is more of an ai or ie sound and the e is more of an a sound. Coral could have emphasis on "ral" with a longer sounding a or the Cor sounds more like cure and stuff like that. Bobbin and Wovey could have emphasis at the end of their names with a vaguely French tilt to the pronunctiation, whereas Velvereen could be pronounced more like Velvyrean? Facet could be ay instead of a maybe? And the one that started this all: Treech, pronounced with a rolling r and an ey sound. There are so many possibilities and I'm having so much fun.

Not watching from a plush leather throne in the Capitol, grinding his teeth at the beasts he most associated with his ruin. But nonetheless, an obsession.

Because he still knew exactly what that would do, the fire it would spark in the Districts. Lucy Gray did, too. He’d be changed politically by Twelve, guided in better directions, but his core would be the same—knowing the power of Panem, wanting to protect his family. So when she sang, all at once, his heart shattered with love for her—his clueless fireball girl, who knows not what she’s starting—and then cold crept through him, prickling and tensing his old back in a cold sweat. lucy gray baird moved to new york chasing her dreams, but she quickly realized that becoming a sought out singer-songwriter was going to be a lot harder than she thought it would be. she takes up odd jobs here and there to pay the bills but her favorite becomes dog walking and dog sitting. one day she gets called by a snotty woman named livia cardew requesting her services after she got lucy gray’s info from a flyer. livia needs her very spoiled pomeranian hypnos to be walked and looked after sometimes but he doesn’t like people very much and barely tolerate his owner. lucy gray agrees and the next morning he gets dropped off by livia’s boyfriend coriolanus snow. he’s surprised because hypnos doesn’t like new people but takes to lucy gray quickly. lucy gray communicates with coriolanus constantly and is always filling him in on what type of mischief hypnos got up to that day, becoming so close she starts calling him coryo and coriolanus becomes smitten with her. he tries his hardest to be loyal and get over his crush out of respect for livia, but after having so many conversations and encounters with lucy gray he’s about ready to turn his whole life around for her — hypnos included 🐶

EPIC: The Musical has me in a chokehold so I made a TBOSAS AU where the tributes are all eldritch creatures whose true might was dormant. Maybe reaping them at the same time was a rebel plot, maybe it was divine intervention, but it happens. It happens and the stress of the situation causes one of them to snap. The others soon follow.

All have eldritch forms tied to an element. Ones that aren’t the traditional four count (so metal, void, light etc). They have minor control over that element aside from the eldritch form and can spawn whole realms where their inner creature thrives which only they can access. So a creature tied to the element fire can be resting in their own personal badass volcano lair and then spawn in the ‘real’ world via a portal in the form of a flame. They can create the flame too, but they can’t travel very far and there are ways to mess with the teleportation. Also, the kids retain a version of their human form even when they’re ‘transformed’ because their eldritch form isn’t an alternate form, it’s more an extension of them that’s hidden until they reveal them. I’m using the word transformation because it’s easier. I’ve got many ideas but I’ll start with what inspired this AU: Treech as Scylla in the song Scylla.

I’m going with snakes over the dogs sometimes used in mythology because I think it’s more terrifying (and also I’ve seen one animatic with adorable serpents and fell in love with the big eyes and boopable snouts and massive razor sharp teeth dripping with blood). Treech’s eldritch form is a base with six ginormous serpents sticking out of it. If his human form’s attached to it, he’s a part of the base, usually with only his upper body visible. He has scales with a gradient of forest green, indigo, and Persian blue. When fully transformed, all of his eyes are a glowing icy blue or maya blue (I want to make them fully black but with all the dark shades that’s less terrifying imo) and his human form has lines of scales going in spirals down his body and creeping up on the edges of his face. When Treech starts his transformation, his pupils turn into predator slits and his irises turn light blue. The blue spreads out until it takes up the whole eye. When he gets mad, it might bleed into the veins around his eyes. The serpents themselves start out as glowing outlines all over his skin like tattoos that start to peel off and slowly grow to the terrifying size of his full eldritch form.

The part in the song after Scylla says “hello :)” is the part where he transforms, his voice slowly sounding more and more inhuman (he can sound like a human but like- go big or go home right?) and instead of just killing six people he massacres whole squads of peacekeepers (though he spares innocents like kids because he’s determined to rub it in the Capitol’s face that a literal man-eating serpent monster is more compassionate than they could ever hope to be) in his quest for both vengeance and freedom. It’s not even the biggest slaughter in the big revenge spree the tributes go on together, but still. I’m giving Treech vague siren-like aspects (his singing voice can cause a loss of focus and amply emotions like fear) instead of the telepathy Scylla has in EPIC. A little nod to the song that started this AU.

I might continue this and I’m working on some art for this AU (might post, might not, I’m not sure yet).

So I've seen a pretty common TBOSAS AU is where Lucy Gray goes back to the Capitol with Coriolanus and becoming the First Lady of Panem and I find that idea super interesting. Also, I've been listening to this song a lot lately.

And I just had this kind of half-baked idea of First Lady Lucy Gray performing in the Capitol in this super prestigious concert hall and she's singing Flight, putting her whole heart and soul into it. "Let me run through a field in the night, let me lift from the ground till my soul is in flight..." And all the rich city folk are tearing up and when she's finished they're all applauding and cheering and they give her a standing ovation. And Coriolanus is sitting in the VIP box, highly P.O.'ed, just staring daggers at her. And then the song becomes a chart-topper in the Capitol.

Just a thought.

just saw the new hunger games movie. gotta say, that ending was very shocking but powerful. when chino came out of nowhere to shoot coriolanus with the gun in front of lucy it made a very powerful statement on the abuses of power and violence in society
