There is an old video of fans talking to him about Coraline and he said it was not about her, so I don't know why people act like it is either. I find it really weird also. It's like these people love her so much they just want everything to be about her, and there are so many other things in his life as well that he could be writing about.

from what I've gathered (not particularly voluntarily) from months on twitter is that she once said she connects with the song and has a tattoo that says "coraline" and those were enough for her to always be brought up when the song is mentioned. and now damiano's liked this tweet which is, yes, confirmation

like i am also a hopeless romantic that thinks it's sweet and sure i wish I'd have someone understands me like this but i just don't/didn't like people's patronizing approach to talking about the song especially before anything explicit from damiano's side and i prefer art being left subjective. like for me coraline is an incredibly emotional song bc it talks about mental health struggles and the lyrics like "Capirò cosa hai dentro" stab me in the heart and when I'm crying watching the performance it's bc damiano conveys that vulnerability and understanding so beautifully, not bc I'm specifically thinking about his relationship and i wish more people had that approach. i guess those would think im being abrasive about this and of course they can also view it however they want but i just want discussion about the song to be able to exist in its own. i guess i shouldn't be surprised, wondering artist's relationships is a part of natural human curiosity to some point but letting one concept eclipse everything about such a complex song seems trivializing to me. it can be different for me, for you, for damiano, for us all and there's beauty in that. there can be a coraline inside us all

and i want to add this comment i got on the original post here too bc @soneaselene has said it much more clearly than i have
