Do you have any headcannons about mai and sokka’s friendship perhaps?

Oh boy lmao I sure do! I’m FULLY into Pepe Silvia mode but listen. LISTEN!!!

They are both older siblings with a complicated relationship with their parents (and dare I say, with gender roles), kings of Repressing Their Feelings (in different ways and for different reasons but the emotional damage is the same), crazy skilled nonbenders with an affinity for throwing sharp things, fashion icons, fingerless gloves wearers. At first they seem so wildly different it’s impossible they could get along but they are each other’s sweet cheese rotten soldier good-time pals. I know it’s true.

- post war (and post her redemption arc) mai gets a high ranking political role (adivisor/councilor/ambassador whatever) that puts her in the same circles as sokka and he has the pleasure to introduce mai to the wonders of psychological warfare over shitty nobles. their team ups are terrifying. idk i just want them to bully old men for sport.

- i feel like post canon they would also travel a lot, mostly for diplomatic reasons but also for fun and give each other tips on what to see, and most importantly detailed critiques on all the Best Restaurants

- Once sokka told a terrible pun during dinner that made mai snort a noodle out of her nose, unprecedented event that zuko declared a national holiday

- Sokka goes ballistic over seashells (canon) and mai still thinks they’re glorified trash picked up from the ground. He has now devised a 25 steps plan to make her change her mind

- they both compare notes on their rich and detailed Zuko cringe fail compilations. Mai tells sokka Every embarrassing thing zuko ever did as a kid and sokka fills her in on the good old ponytail freak days

- part of me is like “they would absolutely go shopping together” but the other part is like “their shopping styles are too different it wouldn’t work :( they still try though”

- standing champions at that game where you stab a knife between splayed fingers really fucking fast (this gets passed onto Izumi)

- @ofherlionheart mentioned it in the tags of a post ages ago and I’ve been obsessed with it since. Mai giving sokka spicy food just to see him cry and it builds up his spice tolerance like crazy

- mai absolutely fuckign HATES the cold but when she visit kyoshi island (with and for ty-lee) she still does quick detours to the South Pole exclusively when sokka is around

- and of course the classic: target practice. They challenge each other to one-up very flashy outlandish throws and hit the targets which are portraits of ppl they hate

- also I think they should swap clothes sometimes
