it's always funny to see a post on here about basic courtesy and social mores and the notes are full of "you can't expect me to know this because i am autistic and nobody told me this directly" because more than half the time it is stuff that does NOT fall into the Unspoken Rules category. i'm not autistic and neither are my parents but they told me explicitly and from a young age things like "sometimes you have to be polite to people you don't like very much" and "never shit talk your last job in an interview"

those aren't Neurotypical Trade Secrets, those are basic life skills you have to be taught, like phone manners and how to address a formal letter/email. if your parents didn't teach you this shit they failed you, and that sucks, but it's not because you're autistic
