This is like the third textpost I've made today but I wanted to just say something finite for people who want to follow me or whatever.
I love Tumblr. It's so well designed. I love being able to scroll through pictures. So many of my friends irl have left. I like that things aren't recommended to you based on timeline shit. I hate Twitter and Facebook and Insta because the ads and the awful ass way they change algorithms and stuff. The blue of Tumblr is calming. They haven't improved much on the app for Android since i started fucking college 4 years ago but it's at least managable.
A lot of people have left Tumblr. I know few people who refer to it as something they still use and like. But I love this website because it doesn't stress me out about having a following and I feel like I'm posting for me. I'm not "participating" in social media. It keeps me informed sometimes. It updates me on the latest memes because I don't have a Reddit or a Twitter.
I love to look at art. And fashion. This new update is going to take a lot of that stuff away, and for this I don't know if I'll even be able to stay. I've invested so much time into my blog. And I love to text my friends on this platform. And I hate having to start a-new because Tumblr refuses to fix their problems.
I'm mad my nsfw tag was gone. I'm mad Tumblr deleted blogs for no reason. I'm mad they are killing the community. I'm mad sex workers are being forced off another site. I'm mad this blog I've had since highschool might disappear because Tumblr stopped trying to improve and started giving up.
But worst of all, I'm mad that I think Tumblr is kind of just giving up and self sabotaging itself. I'm not saying regulating your site and cracking down on users is an easy problem to fix all at once, but blanket banning so much content is in poor taste.
So I don't know where I go. If they go through with this change I don't know if I'll want to stay here anyway because this kind of thing screws over so many artists anyway. The threat of this shows how little Tumblr cares to help make the site better for their user base. Not like other websites care more. But there is at least an attempt at regulation on other websites.
If the change goes through, I will have to leave. I'll figure something else out. But it feels like a slap in the face.
Customer service is hard. I hate feeling underappreciated and it's annoying helping people who seem ungrateful. But the staff on Tumblr letting the website get this bad, and basically point fingers at the user base when they set the bar and should be regulating it's users is really telling.
I'll really miss you Tumblr. We had a good run. Hopefully I figure out where I even want to go by December 17th
