#someone: tony was the only one who needed to sign the accords!

I'm like 8 years too late, but oh well - I've had this Captain America Civil War rant stuck in my head for a while and I need to get it out after re-watching it. (This is gonna be long af, but bear with me).
I feel like a lot of people missed the actual point and plot of the movie (and the marketing definitely didn't help). The whole "team cap vs team iron man" stuff becomes irrelevant after like the first 20 minutes of the movie. But of course, it's still quite a big part of the movie and I'd like to take a moment to explore what I think, the different character motivations are around why they signed or didn't (or would / wouldn't).
The only reason Tony "I successfully privatised world peace" Stark signed the accords in the first place anyway is because of his massive survivors guilt complex which we see triggered by the woman who approaches him at the end of his speech to the MIT students. Like this man does not give a single shit about the government, and much like Steve Rogers, he just wants to keep people safe. Unlike Steve, however, he doesn't trust himself to do so and thinks of himself needing the be kept in check, for someone else to take the blame (though he'd probably internalise it anyway, let's be real).
Rhodey has always kind of been more on the side of the government, even if that meant going against Tony - think Iron Patriot - so it makes sense that he'd want to sign. He understands that a group as powerful and dangerous as the Avengers needs to be kept in check, but what he doesn't understand are the risks around that. In a perfect world, it would be fine, but unfortunately government systems are stupid and corrupt.
Peter was only really in the fight in the first place because he was a child blindly following this big celebrity guy he idolised. He didn't know enough about the situation to properly analyse it, just being fed and believing whatever Tony told him (and he had no reason to go against him, so why would he? This was his shot, he's been chosen by THE Tony Stark to help). "Mr Stark said you'd say that" "he said you're wrong, you think you're right, that makes you dangerous." I 100% believe that if Peter had read the accords, that he would have been on Steve's side anyway.
Vision is an embodiment of 'good' and 'peace' - essentially everything that Ultron was supposed to be, but wasn't. He has no reason to be against the accords if it will keep people safe and he makes the point during their conversation of "our very strength invites challenge. Challenge incites conflict. And conflict ... breeds catastrophe. Oversight ... oversight is not an idea that can be dismissed out of hand." It's also very much the beginning kind of puppy love between him and Wanda in this movie, meaning that he will want to protect her. No matter what. Even if it means "locking her in her room."
Nat was seriously one of the only people in this movie with a brain cell lol. I firmly believe that if the accords had been properly put in place, she would have followed them until she no longer thought the government's instructions were 'right' and would have gone against them anyway. Her main goal in this movie was trying to keep the Avengers, her family, together and ultimately do the 'right' thing.
T'challa didn't give one shit about the accords lmao, he's damn king. No, he was only there in the first place to take revenge on his father's death (which at the point of the airport fight scene he still thought it was Bucky's fault. He later discovers, after following Steve and Bucky to Siberia, that it's Zemo's, and locks him up).
Steve's concerns with the accords are valid, and honestly I wouldn't have signed them either. To be told "sign, retire, or get locked up" isn't really a big winner for me lol. And the thing is, Steve's done this. He fought in WW2, he got paraded around like some big hero while men died, and he did nothing. It wasn't until he went against orders, that he actually did something helpful (saved the captured 107th division in Azzano). So, no, he's not going to be side-lined when people out there need help. That's just not who he is.
Bucky had no part in the accords, and as soon as he got introduced into the movie, that plot point became irrelevant. He was framed by Zemo, and then used to rip the avengers apart. The accords was just another log to add to the fire at that point. He followed Steve because "till the end of the line" and all that. He literally, heartbreakingly, says "I don't know if I'm worth all this," but he follows anyway.
Scott, much like Peter, is kinda just happy to be there. He's following CAPTAIN FREAKING AMERICA into battle without hesitation. But like, let's be honest, given his whole movie and character, I very much doubt Scott would be on Tony's side if he had read the accords.
Clint got dragged out of freaking retirement for this shit, and he didn't actually get involved until after Team Cap already knew about Zemo. That's why he's there. Not because of the accords, but to help Steve get to the Quinjet to get to Siberia and stop Zemo before he can go through with his assumed plan to wake up the five super soldiers who'd been stashed there. (Of course, this isn't actually Zemo's plan, but we'll get back to that later).
Wanda is going through some serious self loathing during this movie, and the incident in Lagos doesn't help. Like at all. Ma girl just wants to live her life and be left alone at this point and she's getting all of these horrible things thrown into her face by Secretary Ross. She doesn't want to be controlled, she doesn't want to be a weapon, she wants to be free. "You locked me in my room." - Girl already probably hates Tony Stark due to her family being killed by one of his bombs and Ultron, so she's mad anyway.
Sam is on Steve's side from the start. With the accords, to fight Zemo, all of it. During the 'discussion' between him and Rhodey, he says "So let's say we agree to this thing. How long is it gonna be before they LoJack us like a bunch of common criminals?" He doesn't trust Secretary Ross, and is clearly hesitant to add his signature to the accords. (not that I blame him).
The main actual villain and 'plot' of the movie after the first part with the accords, was the whole thing with Zemo wanting to tear the Avengers apart to get revenge for his family dying in Sokovia. He takes advantage of the accords, and of Bucky / The Winter Soldier to do this but it's not really discussed which annoys me. It's a MAJOR part of the film, yet all I ever really see being discussed are the accords affecting the decisions of characters throughout the film with no consideration of the wider picture.
From when the UN meeting is blown up, the Avengers are being manipulated by Zemo working in the background throughout the film. He frames Bucky for murder, and Steve - who has been looking for Bucky for the past 2 years - goes after him like ‘tf man’. Bucky gets taken in and Zemo uses the opportunity to activate the Winter Soldier programming, learn about Hydra’s super soldier program, and of course - “Mission report. December 16, 1991.”
This leads to Bucky’s escape and attack, Steve and co going on the run, and eventually the airport fight. The meaning of this scene gets lost, I feel, when people relate it back to the accords because it’s not about that anymore. Not really, not for anyone. Especially not for Steve, or even for Tony.
Tony at this point, most definitely feels like his world is being torn apart. He’s losing control, he’s spiralling, and Steve just isn’t listening. He’s blinded by his anger to the bigger picture and he just wants to get a handle on the situation to deal with it further.
Steve’s forgotten all about the accords, his priority is keeping Bucky safe and stopping Zemo. He tries to tell Tony, tries to talk to him, but Tony isn’t listening either. I mean their whole interaction just before the fight shows this:
(the dialogue below has been condensed to show the key lines - basically I got rid of other characters talking irrelevantly)
-
Steve Rogers: Hear me out, Tony. That doctor, the psychiatrist, he's behind all of this.
Tony Stark: Anyway, Ross gave me 36 hours to bring you in. That was 24 hours ago. Can you help a brother out?
Steve Rogers: You're after the wrong guy.
Tony Stark: Your judgment is askew. Your old war buddy killed innocent people yesterday.
Steve Rogers: And there are five more super soldiers just like him. I can't let the doctor find them first, Tony. I can't.
- later -
Tony Stark: And you've been a complete idiot. Dragging in Clint. 'Rescuing' Wanda from a place she doesn't even want to leave, a safe place. I'm trying to keep . . . I'm trying to keep you from tearing the Avengers apart.
Steve Rogers: You did that when you signed.
Tony Stark: Alright, We're done. You're gonna turn Barnes over, you're gonna come with us. NOW! Because it's us! Or a squad of J-SOC guys . . . with no compunction about being impolite. [Steve looks aside.] Come on.
-
Not to mention that Tony, after learning that Zemo impersonated and killed the actual doctor dude that was supposed to see Bucky whilst he was in confinement, he DISOBEYED the accords and Secretary Ross to go and help Steve stop what they thought at the time was the reactivation of the five super soldiers who'd been left in cryo freeze.
He follows Steve and Bucky to Siberia to help them, not to fight them. That only changes because of Zemo showing the footage of Bucky, WHILE UNDER BASICALLY MIND CONTROL, killing Tony’s parents.
In this scene, Tony 100% has every right to be angry. Unfortunately, he’s the kind of person who cannot see past his anger. He gets in his head, he spirals, and he tries to kill Bucky based on blind rage. (IT WASN’T BUCKY’S FAULT DAMMIT).
And yes, Steve was 100% in the wrong for not telling Tony. This whole scene could have been very easily avoided if Steve had just pulled Tony aside and had the difficult conversation about his parents death. Tony deserved to know, and Steve was only sparing himself pain by doing it. Dick move Steve, 0/10.
The fight between the three allows Zemo, having successfully completed his plan of eliminating the super soldiers and tearing the avengers apart, to slip away. With his work done, he tries to end his own life, but T’challa stops him and arrests him instead.
Steve and Tony’s fight was unnecessary, dramatic, and heart-breaking, and I’m very glad they managed to make up later, but ye. I think, at the end of the day, they’re all just dramatic idiots with communication issues lol.

Thank you for reading my long ass essay lmao, apparently I have a lot of feelings about this movie 😂

YANDERE STEVE ROGERS HEADCANONS
He'd fall madly in love with you if you explain something to him from the modern times or just by being yourself. Yep... man here loves you for talking to him NOT just because he's Captain America but as Steve too if you get what I mean
He'd most probably stalk you and make sure you're 'safe'. He finds it completely normal though. The way he sees it is he's just patrolling the place you live at to check for 'any signs of disturbances' to stalk you and drink in your divine beauty. Might even get some of the other Avengers like Natasha and Bucky to help him since they're like best friends and stuff
Completely POSSESSIVE and obsessive as hell. Oh, and not to mention kinda delusional too
The world is a harsh place according to him and he needs to make sure you're safe at any cost. And yes, he will kidnap you if he thinks you're in danger. But not before he finds out more about you and your likes and dislikes and even your relationships with other people, which he doesn't like that much. He wants you to be the only person to depend on and it just infuriates him when you go and hang out with other people. Was he not good enough for you? To cope with his jealousy he's going to try spending more time with you like training together and you both going out more often together
Will most likely kidnap you if he thinks you're putting yourself in danger but don't worry, he'll make the room and the house to your liking. He'll get all the things that you love like fluffy pillows and stuffed animals and books etc. etc.
Good luck trying to make people believe that he kidnapped you. They'd most probably recommend you to a doctor or something because who would believe the chivalrous gentlemanly Captain America would actually KIDNAP someone?? And Steve will most CERTAINLY find out about you trying to tell someone about that and he'll be really disappointed in you. He might scold you like how a kind dad scold his child but if you test his patience levels too much he might just have to teach you a lesson
Don't bother trying to escape from him. Security around you is HELLA tight and plus even if you did manage to escape, one: How in the absolute HECK did you manage THAT?! And two: He'll track you down anyways and trust me, he has ALL the resources that he needs for getting you back in literally less than 24 hours
Normally Steve doesn't get angry THAT much but you better watch out when he DOES. He might lock you in a room if you've tried escaping from him or forcefully cuddle with you since he thinks you feel neglected. Or else he might yell at you at why you're being ungrateful and stuff like that. Yes, it pains him to say and do things like this but he WILL discipline you by any means necessary but he won't do anything to you without your consent of course. Even when he's angry, he's STILL respectful. Well... at least to YOU that is. When it comes to rivals... oh boy.... they're going to kiss the Earth goodbye in less than half a second if someone gets the bright idea to mess with him or you. The Avengers are an exception to this which means you absolutely can NOT go to them for help
He will get absolutely PISSED if he sees Tony talking to you and he'll drag you away from him gritting his teeth. Normally the 2 of them don't get along too well and when it comes to you, he's literally aching to punch him in the face when he sees you talking to him. You're going to have to assure Steve you love him and not let him go and cuddle with him after that. You don't wanna make boi here sad now, DO you?
He wants to have that All American lifestyle with you. You know with the painted white fence, maybe a golden retriever and a nice villa and 3-4 kids. Maybe even more. And when he gets to know you're pregnant, his obsession and over protectiveness of you will shoot up to the roof and out to space. You belong to HIM and NOTHING can separate the 2 of you and he'll make sure of that

what misconception? 👀
I assume this is about the Civil War post I made and oh boy, so many. So, so many. Let me preface this by saying I actually like Civil War enough as a movie. Not as a Captain America movie, but it's engaging and I enjoyed it for the most part. I mostly dislike the dogshit opinions about it. To prevent this from turning into a dissertation, I'll just list the ones that come to mind first/irritate me the most:
"Steve was completely against regulation and oversight" WRONG. He was against the vagueness of it all. He explicitly says that he wants to know whose going to be holding his leash if he has to have one. In fact, he was about to sign the Accords before Tony told him about them preemptively enforcing it and detaining Wanda. Steve was willing to consider the Accords, Steve was trying to discuss the Accords, Steve was on the path to being open to the Accords before the moral failings of it were already shining through. Steve, rightfully so, is distrustful at this point of anonymous authority. Following the news that Hydra had their nasty paws in SHIELD and other high positions in government, Steve decides that he wants to know more about the people who have authority over him. Seems reasonable enough.
"Steve was only against the Accords for Bucky" WRONG. 1) Before he was certain that Bucky was being framed, he says that he has the best chance of bringing him in to minimize damage. Then, when he was certain Bucky was innocent, it became a matter of not letting his bestie be falsely imprisoned and/or killed on the spot. 2) Lemme just add that yes, Bucky is extremely important to Steve, but Steve would have still been against the Accords if Bucky wasn't a factor. I need people to understand this. It wasn't just a "oh no I need to save my best friend". 3) If you read what was in the Accords, you'd understand why Steve would generally be against them. They're abhorrent.
"Steve didn't read the Accords/Steve didn't even attempt to communicate or compromise." I haaaaattttteeee this one with a burning passion. Did we watch the same movie? He's quite literally the only one on screen we see even look at that long ass document. Probably also the only one would could even manage to read the thing since it was sprung up on them 3 days before the meeting (which is a whole 'nother issue for later. For now, I'll just say I support the Ross conspiracy theory). He also tried to tell Tony & Co. before the airport fight that Zemo was the one behind all this conflict, that Bucky is innocent and about the 5 other ultra-dangerous super-soldiers who, as far as he knew, were about to be unleashed onto the world which would be disastrous. Unfortunately, Team IM was wracked with tension and didn't listen and attacked.
"Steve and Bucky jumped Tony (+ variants of this statement)." This is one that confused me so much. Such a bullshit take. I am begging people to rewatch CW and watch the fight. Tony, whose emotions is dialed to a thousand (and not only because of the Bucky thing mind you, but I can talk about that a lot more later because I like talking about Tony's emotional/mental state during Civil War) attacked first, then tries to kill Bucky, Steve tries to get Tony to stop killing Bucky, Tony is trying not to kill Steve, Bucky is trying to get Tony not to kill Steve or him. It's a mess. Mind you, Steve isn't even trying to excessively harm Tony in this scene. It's confirmed that during the entire fight, he was trying to disable the suit. Not trying to beat Tony to a pulp - DISABLE. THE. SUIT. Which he manage to do in the midst of that shitshow.
"*insert any anti-CW Wanda take*" Please, someone please tell me why people think Wanda has any blame for what happened Lagos? Wanda quite literally didn't CAUSE that. I need to understand this point of view before I get an aneurysm. She didn't make the bomb, bring the bomb, set the bomb off. It was Rumlow who had that bomb that would have ended up killing way more people on the ground than where Wanda managed to put it. She absolutely was as much of a hero as she could be in that instance, trying to redirect the bomb away from civilians. Unfortunately, it still ended it casualties, but a lot less than it would have been if Wanda hadn't intervened.
I could go on and on, but I'll stop here. Fanon CACW quite literally has some of the worst fan comprehension I've seen in the MCU. I imagine that a lot of it is not understanding characters, the movie not elaborating on important plot points in an effort to make it 50/50 (which they failed at lol), and the fandom being a lot more conservative than I thought. I can expand further on anything if you want!

I just realized i haven't ever posted about my take on captain america: civil war and the sokovia accords (in detail). Because i have a lot ot thoughts about the whole thing. I used to be firmly team cap. Nowadays, I'm team "they're all idiots."
And I'm going to get into that right now!
First off, the sokovia accords would never have worked. It's the government. They're corrupt, and when they aren't, it's only a matter of time until they become corrupt again.
I mean, this is the government that had hydra secretly growing within it for longer than cap was on ice! And to think signing over what is basically the "right" (is it even a right, in the first place?) to be a superhero (?) to the government? Not even the government, but all governments! That's the stupidest idea ever!
So, i agree with steve's thinking, for the most part. But i do not completely agree with steve. He's a self righteous ass. Nothing more needs to be said on that, at least for right now.
However, Tony was being a bit emotional and impulsive. He had the best intentions but when faced with the casualties of sokovia, he panicked because he's never really had to look directly at the death and destruction his superhero activities cause. And as a consequence as the way he grew up and the things he's been through, he had no idea how to cope with that. He couldn't fix this with money and so he wanted to just give control to someone else, someone (seemingly) more qualified. He never really has to take responsibility because he can usually just throw money at his problems and/or ignore them.
Tony never really thought about what the government would/could/might do with all the power the accords gave them.
But now, I'm going to switch focus back to steve. Steve didn't even try to see where Tony was coming from. He was very, "I'm right. You're wrong. Fuck anyone/everyone who disagres" and all. Tony was willing to try and work together.
Amd Tony's heart was in the right place. And tve thought/idea of working with the government, or at least trying to, is a good one, he just shouldn't have agreed to the terms so quickly. That kind of thing needs a lot more negotiation and stuff.
And that's my take on it.
Well, the actual accords themselves, at least.

Playing for the Wrong Side
What if Captain America had recruited Peter before Iron Man?
In a world where Peter is on the losing side of the Civil War, he has to face the Sokovia Accords and the consequences of choosing to stay in the city without signing them. But when Ross sends Tony Stark to chase him down, they realize they both might have bitten off a bit more than they could chew.
Chapter 1 below the cut! Or read on AO3.
Peter Parker wakes up in a cell.
His head hurts badly enough that he catches himself wondering, for just a moment, how anybody had managed to knock him out. He hadn't found a single medication since the bite that worked for more than a few minutes, so being drugged was completely out of the question. Right?
Maybe he'd just taken a nasty knock to the head. Unusual, but not impossible. But it would have to be quite the opponent to get past his Spidey sense and knock his lights out long and hard enough for him to be transported somewhere and still in pain when he woke up.
The bright lights do nothing for his headache, even with the filtered lenses of his suit. Thank God he’s still in the suit. That means no one knows who he is. His identity is still safe, for now. But he needs to get out of here. He needs to figure out what happened, who has him, what they want, before–
“What, you're the good cop now?”
Wait–
Flashes of the fight come back to him at the sound of the familiar voice.
The fight. The airport. Captain America, tracking him down while he was on parole in Queens. Helping the older hero, fighting half the Avengers, losing to them.
Peter can't even remember what finally brought him down. Maybe it was one of the many cars being launched across the tarmac at the speed of bullets, far too big to avoid with the same amount of ease. Maybe it was whatever device Black Widow was using to shock the hell out of everyone in close proximity. Maybe it was Iron Man’s repulsors–
“Oops, I just knocked the A out of their AV.”
Iron Man.
They'd fought Tony Stark’s side, and they'd lost. And now they were in cages, while Iron Man was… what, standing outside and taunting them? That didn't seem right. But his head is thumping and whatever he's saying, whoever he's talking to, the conversation seems just too far out of reach for him to fully grasp right now, even with his advanced hearing.
It takes a concentrated effort to lift his head, then the rest of his body upright, so he can finally get to his feet. He's barely made it to the bars of the cell when Iron Man appears in front of his door. No, Tony Stark. There's no suit in sight.
Stark only pauses for a second in front of his cell, an unspoken conflict flicking across his face. “God, someone needs to do something about those goggles of yours.”
Peter recoils, a bit offended despite himself. “Did you really come here just–”
“No, I didn't, and I don't have time to argue with you about it.” Stark leans closer to the bars as if to get a better look at the mask, but pitches his voice much lower when he speaks again. If Peter's hearing wasn't enhanced, he wasn't sure if he would have heard him himself. “I'll be back for you, kid. Make sure no one takes that mask off you in the meantime.”
And just like that, he scoffs loudly and stalks away.
Peter has no intention of letting anyone get close enough to him to try, anyway, but there's no chance for him to say so before Tony Stark is gone.
He takes a quick look around, as best he can manage through the bars of his cell, but there isn't much to see. Everyone on their side besides Captain America and the Winter Soldier seems to be locked up here. It's not great news, but at least he's not alone.
Why are they all locked up, again? This has to have something to do with the whole Accords situation. Unfortunately he didn't know much about them, and Captain America hadn't had time to explain much to him at all before they left for Germany. On the flight over, Peter had spent more time gawking over the other heroes than prying for details about the mess they were in. They'd asked for his help, and what kind of hero would he be if he didn't? It wasn't every day half the Avengers came calling, after all.
Maybe he should have thought this out a bit more or asked more questions. Of course he'd assumed there would be consequences to losing, but no one had mentioned that those might involve ending up in what was undoubtedly a high security prison, and… well, he hadn't really assumed they would lose. By his count they had at least 2 super soldiers and 2 enhanced individuals on their side, while Iron Man’s crew was mostly composed of normal people in fancy suits with various levels of military training and one robot. They would’ve had to mess up pretty bad to lose to a couple of men in cans, no matter how much he liked the other heroes.
God, May is going to kill him if she ever finds out. Ned could only cover for him for so long, after all, and if he isn't back by Monday, the school will call her. The jig will be up not just on his little adventure to a foreign country, but on Spider-Man, too. And that's assuming that no one here has alerted her of his situation already. All it would have taken was a peek under his mask to ascertain his identity. Maybe they were trying to kill him into a false sense of security by letting him keep the mask.
Worse, what would May be able to do about it? How much would bail on an international criminal vigilante be? Certainly more than they could afford.
No, don't think like that. He can get out of here. Besides, he was captured in the presence of other heroes. Surely it wasn't a stretch to believe that one of them might have protected him. Hell, for all he knows right now, he may only be here because one of them was trying to help when they were arrested. And if they all already knew his identity, surely Iron Man wouldn't have told him to keep the mask on, right?
Okay, spiraling isn't going to do anything. What can he really do, right now?
The answer isn't much. Whoever is in the cells directly adjacent to him might be able to hear him, if he talks loud enough, but whatever system that is almost certainly monitoring them again now that Tony Stark is gone would hear everything they said, so trying to coordinate an escape was out of the question, as was sharing any information that might hint at his worries for his identity or his lack of knowledge of the Accords. No need to expose any potential weaknesses until he was forced to.
Peter briefly considers trying to bend the bars to get out of his cell. If he could move quick enough, then maybe at least he would be able to escape. He might even be able to break out one or two of the other heroes on his way out. But would he really be able to bring himself to leave any of them? Not to mention that if his suspicion that they were in a high security facility was correct, getting out of the building would be a lot more difficult than just bending the bars of a cell that were meant to contain criminals of a lesser strength.
Peter steps back from the bars, trying to think. Panic is starting to seep in at the edge, but he fights it down. What can he do? Does he really just have to sit and wait to see if Tony Stark comes back for him? Even if he does, what happens then?
Eventually, he retreats from the front of the cell to the back and eases himself back down on the hard cot that he'd woken up on. Let them believe him as defeated as the other heroes around him. He should conserve his strength for now and try not to let the dark thoughts creep in until someone – anyone, whether it was Stark or May or whoever the hell had locked them up – came to let him out. He’s still hurt, after all, and the pounding in his head hasn't let up since he opened his eyes. Probably because his healing factor didn't work quite as well when he hadn't eaten, and he has no idea when the last time he'd eaten was even at this point.
Peter lets his head fall back against the wall and closes his eyes, knees tucked to his chest, and waits.
There's nothing in the cell to give him any concept of time, so he has no idea how long passes before something finally happens. He hears footsteps coming toward them before the door to their cell block even opens, but he doesn't get up, not even when the other heroes – he hears Sam Wilson first, shouting at whoever it is to get their attention – all start to rowse for the first time in what seems like hours. It's only when he realizes the footsteps have come to a stop in front of his cell door that he opens his eyes and sits up.
There's several men there, but only one stands at the front of the group. A man with white hair and a bushy mustache, dressed smartly in a suit that Peter couldn't help but immediately think looked much cheaper than the one Tony Stark was wearing earlier.
“Oh good, you are awake.” The white haired man is the one who speaks, crossing his arms as he steps as close to Peter's cell as he dares. “I don't believe we've officially met, Spider-Man. I'm Thaddeus Ross. And you are?”
Peter suppresses the anxiety that shoots through him at the loaded question and tries to play it off. So this must be Secretary Ross, the man spearheading this whole Accords situation. He doesn’t know much about him – man, he really should've done some research before running off to Germany with Captain America – but he does know that pretty much all of the Avengers hate him, and that Cap had warned him to stay away from him at all costs.
Great. This is going to go well.
“As you so astutely noted, I’m Spider-Man, Mr. Ross.” He tries to keep his voice upbeat, to keep up the Spider-Man persona that everyone knew so well by now. He couldn't afford to be anxiety-ridden, nerdy, easily intimidated Peter Parker right now.
Ross makes a show of rolling his eyes. “Alright, I'll level with you, Spider-Man. We both know that's not what I'm asking.”
There's a flicker in front of the bars of his cell. A force field, Peter realizes. Some kind of barrier between the bars and the exit of his cell. It was a good thing he didn't try to bend the bars to get out, then. He probably would've fried himself or worse when he ran into that.
He refocused on Ross, who was taking something from one of the men behind him. A stack of papers – no, cheaply bound booklet. Ross tosses it through the bars, and it lands in the middle of the floor between them.
Peter doesn't have to see the title to guess what it is.
“I'm going to wager a guess that you're aware of the Sokovia Accords, Spider-Man,” Ross says, crossing his arms again as he studies Peter, who still hasn't moved from his spot on the cot. “Now you weren't targeted with the first round of them because you weren't considered to be an official member of the Avengers up to this point, and there's no evidence you were involved in the… incident in Sokovia. But clearly, times have changed! Congratulations on making the team!”
Fake enthusiasm drips from the words. Peter’s heart is pounding as he looks up to meet Ross’s eyes again. The secretary drops the cheesy grin, eyes glinting, dark and serious. “Now you have to sign them, too.”
Shit. Shit shit shit–
Panic only has a moment to set in before Ross speaks again. “Now, I'm not an unreasonable man, despite what Steve Rogers might have you believe. I'm presenting you with a copy the same way I did the rest of your so-called hero friends. I'll give you some time to read it before you sign it. A few hours, even. I suggest you do, thoroughly.” Ross takes a pen from his pocket and extends it through the bars. “You'll only have this opportunity once. Sign it, and you're free to go. You're the only one of the Avengers who acted unknowingly against the Accords, after all – or at least, that's how we can spin it to get you out of here if you agree. Refuse, and you can be transported with the rest of your friends to your new homes in our most high-security solitary confinement cells tomorrow.” He waggles the pen. “Choose wisely.”
Peter doesn't move. He feels paralyzed. Solitary confinement? Could they even do that? Well, he supposes it makes sense to separate them, both so they couldn't hatch any potential escape plans and so the other prisoners that any of the heroes had put in here couldn't get to them. If Peter thought he had a lot of enemies as Spider-Man, he could only imagine how many the Avengers had locked up.
But… could he sign the Accords? He's a minor. Even if he signed, it wouldn't be legally binding, right? Not for him? Or was there some kind of clause that made it different for superheroes or vigilantes dragged back from committing massive property damage in other countries? Not to mention the likelihood that he couldn't sign it as Spider-Man. They would want him to reveal his identity. And even if they couldn't enforce the Accords on him because he’s a minor, they could certainly enforce their will on him any number of ways once they knew his real name and his vulnerabilities. He could only imagine the government-sanctioned blackmail that could ensue if Peter didn't cooperate.
Peter forces himself to get up, slowly, trying to hide his shakiness from the other man as he approaches the bars. He takes the pen from Ross and tries to muster a cocky grin from behind the mask. “I'll think about it.” His voice isn't quite as steady as he would like, but better than what he was expecting, honestly. “Thanks for the pen though!”
Ross doesn't let go right away, studying Peter in a way that makes his Spidey sense tingle. “Right. Well, don't think too long about it. Unless you'd like to spend a few days in solitary confinement before I get a chance to visit again.” He released the pen with a tight smile, taking a step away before turning around. “Oh, and, I almost forgot. Make sure you sign the document properly. You know, with your real name, or that signature will be null and void and I'll still send you to prison. Not to worry, though, your secret is very safe with me and all of the governments eager to ratify the Sokovia Accords.” He throws Peter a mocking salute. “Happy reading, Spider-Man.”
Peter's heart is still thundering in his ears as he watches Ross walk away.
It's quiet for a few moments, and then, from nearby, “Kid, you alright? What did he say to you?”
Sam Wilson again. He can just see the elder hero from his peripheral vision, pressing against the bars of the cell. Ross must have put some kind of additional forcefield around the other cells while they spoke so the others couldn't hear or interrupt.
Peter's voice is still shaky when he responds, gripping the bars with the pen between his fingers, as if that would steady him. “He said… that the government considers me a member of the Avengers, now. I have to sign the Accords and reveal my identity or they'll lock me up with the rest of you, permanently.”
He hears Sam curse under his breath, while several of the others shift uneasily. He hears another voice, one that it takes him a minute to place. Hawkeye. “You can't sign them, you know that, right? You can't trust these guys.”
“And revealing your identity…” Sam hisses out a break. “Stark seems to believe the Accords won't be forever, or that they can be fixed. But even if they go away five minutes after you sign it, you can't take that back.”
“I know that.” Peter sounds more defensive than he means to, but there's panic rising in his chest again, and he has no clue what he's supposed to do.
“I know you do,” Sam acknowledges. The placating tone is almost enough to throw him over the edge he's teetering on, but he holds himself together. “How long did he give you?”
“He didn't say anything specifically. A few hours, if I don't want to be transferred to lock up and be at his whim for when he decides to come back and get them. But not much else.” The thinly veiled threat does nothing to quell his panic. He takes a steadying breath.
Sam is cursing again. “Alright, well, you better get to reading. Obviously you know we don't think it's a good idea, but we shouldn't influence your decision any more than we already have.”
“Sam–”
“It's his life, Clint, it's his decision. Now let him read, man, we can't waste his time. Ross could come back to be an asshole at any point.”
Just like that, it's quiet again. Peter pushes himself back from the bars, moving slowly to the center of the floor to pick up the Accords and returning to his cot to read.
Once again, he doesn't know how long he sits there. His focus is shot by the end of the first fifty pages – he's hungry, he aches, there's a metric ton of legal terminology in here that he can't even begin to understand, and what the fuck is he going to do?
At some point, he falls asleep. Okay, sue him. He's exhausted and his head hurts and this long legal document is more than boring. It's like playing brain drain with a thousand pieces of paper. He's so far out of his league right now and he just wants to go home.
He jolts awake some time later to the sound of footsteps coming toward their cell block again and knows his time is up. He blinks the sleep from his eyes as best as he can under the mask and pushes the document that he'd only gotten maybe halfway through off of his lap, heart pounding. There has to be something he can do, right? Some deal he can make. Maybe he can make a run for it if he can get Ross to take down the protective field again. Or maybe he can just tell him that he's a minor and he’ll have to let him go. Right? Right?
The lights go out.
It takes a minute for Peter's eyes to adjust through the lenses of the suit, but he knows he’s still seeing better than everyone else. He jumps up, sticking himself to the ceiling and crawling forward until he can peer through the bars and see what's coming from a much better vantage point than anyone below.
The doors open, and–
“Captain!” Peter drops from the ceiling. “And…” It takes him a moment to process who else is with him, given the fact that her hair color is very different from what it was yesterday. “Ms Black Widow?”
“It's Natasha, kid, we don't have time for the formalities.” The spy is standing in front of his cell before he knows it, and Peter watched as she picks the lock on his cell door with a practiced ease. It swings open between them. “Besides, we Spiders have to stick together, right?”
Peter is still slightly stunned, but he's quick to follow her out, and in no time, Captain America and Black Widow have the rest of the Avengers freed from their cells, too.
“Where's Barnes?” Clint asks, falling into step with Natasha with practiced ease.
“Somewhere he's safe,” Rogers answers, but says no more on the topic. “C'mon, we gotta go. We need as much distance between us and here as possible before Ross calls in the backup.”
“Go? Go where?” Peter is scrambling to keep up as the Avengers hustle their way out of the building.
“Somewhere safe,” Rogers repeats, not sharply, but with a sense of finality that makes Peter hesitate. They've made it to the roof, now, and he can hear the hum of some sort of transportation in the near distance, presumably waiting for them.
“Yeah, but, where? I can’t– I mean, the city will suffer without me here.”
That draws Rogers to a stop, just for a second. He turns around. “Look, kid, it's not safe here, for any of us. You didn't sign the Accords either, and if you weren't on Ross’s radar before, you are now. If you don't want to leave the city, I can't make you, but you have to know the best thing for you right now is to lay low.”
“Ross was already pressuring him to sign them,” Sam says, drawing several eyes to him. “You didn't sign the copy he gave you, though. Right?”
Everyone is looking at him now. Peter shakes his head. “No, I mean, of course not. I wouldn't– I couldn't, but–”
“You couldn't?” Steve repeats, confused.
Peter doesn't get a chance to clarify before Black Widow steps forward, her eyes narrowed. His sixth sense tingles a second before she speaks, and he knows she's worked it out. “He's a minor.”
“What?” Steve’s eyes go wide for only a second before he composes himself, passing a hand over his face. “Okay, kid, look. I’m– sorry I dragged you into this. You can come with us right now, but if that's true… you're better off going home to your family, putting the suit up, and keeping a low profile until all of this blows over. Do not let anyone know who you are. If Ross or Stark catches you, you're going to be in way over your head, and we can't come back and save you again.”
Peter does think about it for a second. What it would be like, to go on the run with more than half of the Avengers. To be a part of them for real. But then he thinks about May, and Ned, and what it would do to them to lose him. May has no other family, and Ned is the closest friend he has, and he knows that goes both ways. Neither of them knew his secret, of course, but that would just make it worse. If Spider-Man goes on the run with the Avengers, neither of them will even know it's him. That he's safe and that he didn't just run away or get kidnapped or worse. He couldn't do that to him. And the city does need him. With everyone else gone or on Ross's tight leash, who else is going to look out for it?
“I understand.” Peter blows out a little breath. “I appreciate the offer, Cap, but someone has to stay and look out for the little guy. I'll keep a low profile for a while, but… I'm needed here.”
Captain America and Black Widow exchange a loaded look, but Cap just sighs and holds out a hand. “Then it's been nice knowing you, Spider-Man. Take care out there, alright?”
Peter shakes it before he can start needing out – oh my god, I'm shaking Captain America's hand – and then accepts brief one-armed hugs and handshakes from the remaining Avengers who offer. He watches them all go over the edge of the roof toward the darkness. He doesn't wait to see if they make it off safely. He can already hear choppers approaching from the distance, presumably alerted to their prison break.
With one last glance toward the retreating Avengers, Peter launches himself off the roof, and starts swinging across the nearest bridge, back toward Queens.
He makes it back home without incident, but he can't shake the feeling, niggling right where he normally feels his sixth sense for danger, that everything is about to change.

Any Fan's Dream, Part 16
Any Fan's Dream Masterlist
Synopsis:
When you look around and see Avengers Tower in front of you and Peter Parker beside you, you wonder how the hell you managed to get into the MCU.

"What were you thinking?" Natasha paced the room, her controlled voice contrasting her angry movements.
Under normal circumstances, you would be completely distraught and self-deprecating if Natasha Romanoff was upset with you, but these were anything but normal circumstances. You had no doubt the guilt would register soon, but at the moment, you were too lost in your head.
They left you.
How the fuck were you gonna help now?
You knew that soon, tomorrow most likely (if Tony's deal with Ross still happened), the team would be fighting. It made you angry to think about how Peter would be dragged into the fight by Tony/ You had to do something but you didn't see any chance that Natasha would let you out of her sights. You couldn't just sneak out again. Not with Natasha watching over you and Tony's security system.
"What are you thinking about?" The sheer amount of exasperation in her voice made you look up.
"I'm sorry, Nat," you mumbled.
Her face softened. "(y/n), please, talk to me. Are you okay?"
'Are you okay?'
Well, you never could answer that question quite honestly.
"I'm just..." your voice faltered, soft and grieving, "...they left me. How did this happen?"
Natasha felt her heart break at the hopeless look in your eyes, your voice the voice of someone who was giving up. She sat down beside you, the couch sinking beneath her weight.
Looking you dead in the eyes, she said, "None of this is your fault. Okay? None of it."
You shook your head, barely able to keep the tears from escaping. "It is. All of it. I should've been able to stop it."
"How? How was one person going to change this? (y/n), you can't see the future, and even if you could, this was going to happen. After all the things that have happened, there was no avoiding this." Nat wrapped her arms around you, letting you rest your head on her shoulder. "Listen, (y/n), you haven't done anything wrong."
You sobbed, tears escaping your eyes at her words. You hurriedly tried to wipe them, not wanting to ruin Nat's shirt. "It's all my fault. I should've stopped it."
"Hey, no, no. Don't think that. This isn't your fault, okay?" Natasha rubbed your back soothingly, trying to provide whatever comfort she could.
You wanted to believe her.
But you couldn't.
Not when you knew the timeline backwards and forward, not when you'd been obsessed with the MCU for years, dreaming of meeting your heroes for so long you couldn't remember ever wanting anything else.
But you had already broken down enough. It didn't matter if you felt like shit, your guilt building daily. You would use that guilt, you would use whatever you could to make sure that it didn't end the same.
So you forced yourself to stop the tears, pulling away from Natasha reluctantly and drying your face with your sleeve.
"Nat, do you really think that signing the Accords will help?"
If she was anyone else, someone not quite as good at hiding their emotions, she would've stiffened. Instead, she looked at you, surprised. "I don't think that matters right now. You shouldn't worry about this stuff, you should be resting."
It was apparent she didn't want to talk about it, but you needed to know. "Do you, Nat? Like, you believe that everything will be better if you sign that thing? Speaking of, there's no way that it's legal to spring all that on you guys with only three days notice, is there? And even if there is, it's bullshit."
"There's not many options, (y/n)."
"I know, which is ridiculous. You all have saved the world multiple times and now they're tryna punish you for it. How is that fair?"
She smiled sadly. "Not everybody cares about what's fair."
Unfortunately, you knew that fact all too well.
~~
Natasha couldn’t believe you had done that-
Snuck out, snuck in to a government building, then ran around with some fugitives, all of it the day after getting a concussion.
How could you be so reckless? She knew you were smart, knew you understood the risks to your health, the dangers of hanging around people wanted by over 110 countries, people who were being hunted by some not-so-friendly soldiers.
When she had received the call that you had arrived at the building and you weren’t answering her calls, she knew what was happening.
But she knew why you did it.
Of course she knew.
At times, Natasha also felt like saying “fuck the world” and running off with her new family.
But she couldn’t do that- not like before. There was too much at risk. Too many people could get hurt. Hell, you were already hurt.
There were too many things wrong, too many dangers of not signing the Accords. And sure, she knew that the UN had deliberately informed them only days before to ensure their cooperation, but she also knew she couldn’t do anything about that shit.
And the reality was, the Avengers did deserve to be held accountable. Even Steve understood that. The problem was that the UN wasn’t just demanding their accountability, it was also demanding total control of everything they did. That’s the part she had a problem with, and also the part Steve had acted out on.
They wanted to treat the Avengers like their own personal group of attack dogs- just as Hydra had done to the Winter Soldier.
But Natasha knew just how far the governments would go to have them under control, she’d seen the things people in power would do for control, she couldn’t allow that sort of danger to happen to the people she loved.
Even if she didn’t agree, for the moment, she knew she would go along with the Accords.
If only to keep the people she cared about safe.
~~
You looked up when you heard the phone ring.
For once, it wasn't your phone going off. It was Natasha's. Well, you had smashed your phone so that option was out.
Wait-
Smashed the phone. The phone Tony gave you. The new phone. Fuuuck.
"What, Tony?" Natasha said, answering the call.
You watched, trying to see if her body language gave away anything. But then it was Natasha Romanoff, so of course her body language didn't betray anything.
Even when Nat ended the call, you still knew just about nothing concerning what she had been talking about with Tony. That was, until she looked at you and sighed.
~~
"Why am I here again?" Your voice was nervous, appropriate since you were back in the building you had snuck into earlier. You felt like you were in trouble and your stomach felt like someone was jumping around inside it.
"Oh, I don't know. Maybe so you don't run off with people wanted by the law again?"
That's fair.
You were pretty sure you knew why Natasha had had to meet Tony.
~~
"I don't suppose you have any idea where they are?" The Secretary's question was loaded with dissatisfaction.
You were already fuming just standing in the presence of the man.
"We will. GSG-9's got the borders covered. Recon's flying 24/7. They'll get a hit. We'll handle it." Tony was trying to reason with the dumbass man.
"You don't get it, Stark. It's not yours to handle. It's clear you can't be objective. I'm putting Special Ops on this."
You gritted your teeth, barely able to restrain yourself from erupting at the man. Natasha had reluctantly brought you there and she would not be happy if you started another argument with Ross.
Natasha spoke up. "What happens when the shooting starts? What, do you kill Steve Rogers?"
"If we're provoked. Barnes would've been eliminated in Romania if it wasn't for Rogers. There are dead people who would be alive now. Feel free to check my math."
You know what? Fuck it.
"'If it wasn't for Rogers', yeah, you know what else would've happened if it wasn't for him?” The eyes of three other people drew to you at you words, all with different looks behind their gaze. "Do you have any actual appreciation for the man? He sacrificed so much for what he believed in, saving countless lives. And he never tried to nuke a city with millions of people in it. Tell me how he's the villain in this situation."
Ross's jaw ticked. "The situations are entirely different. And you keep bringing up the same thing, seems like children really can't get over anything."
For a moment, you were truly speechless.
Did this cranberry fucknugget just imply that nuking New York was something that you could just "get over"?
"You're a piece of shit." Your voice showed exactly how astonished and disgusted you were. "You really think that genocide is something that people should just 'get over'? Do you have no appreciation for human life? Fuck, and you're saying the Avengers are reckless and have no accountability. Where's your accountability you fucking asshole?"
You were seething, quite possibly the angriest you had ever been.
Did this shitstain hear himself?
"Who do you think you're talking to? I'm the Secretary of State of the United States of America. You're just a random kid who thinks they actually know something about the world. Well, guess what, sweetheart? The adults are talking."
You had never wanted more to hit someone than you did at that moment. Your fists were already clenched and you were right on the fucking edge of just letting loose and beating the old fucker.
You weren't the only person who was close to going off on the bastard.
"'Adults'? Really?" you scoffed. "Sure doesn't seem like you, you dumbfucker. You think that murdering millions is something that anybody should just get over, you inconsiderate shitstain."
"Stark, get a hold of your pet," Ross sneered at you.
Natasha had watched you go off on the stain of humanity but couldn't stand by any longer, even if you were perfectly capable of cursing him to hell and back.
Tony looked at Natasha and gulped.
She looked willing to kill.
"I would recommend shutting up if you want to leave alive, Secretary." Tony enunciated the word, ensuring that Ross knew just how little he gave a fuck about his position.
"Is that a threat?" Ross was uneasy but trying to remain confident, unfortunately for him, all his bluster was falling short.
"A threat? That?" Tony laughed. "No. But I do think that look is." He nodded to Natasha's expression.
When Ross saw the way Natasha was looking at him, he was reminded exactly who the most dangerous person in the room was. It wasn't the fuming teenager berating him, nor was it the billionaire glaring at him, it was the woman who had been scarily silent the whole time.
"We will get Rogers back." Natasha's words left no room for argument. "You will give us three days to gather them before sending out the guns."
Ross sputtered. "Three days? What? Are you crazy?" His protests died out the longer Natasha looked at him. He cleared his throat. "Fine. Three days. All of them."
And he left the room, trying to make it look like he hadn't been two seconds away from shitting himself. He didn't like Stark very much, but at least he knew how to handle him. He didn't think he could handle you or Romanoff. The two of you looked at him like you could snap his neck and enjoy it.
With the cockroach gone, you could finally unclench your fists. You had been so fucking close to throwing hands and while you appreciated Natasha standing up for you, you were sure you would've enjoyed cursing out the stupid ass-monkey to make sure he understood what a shit human he really was.
Although, you had something much more important to focus on.
He had given Nat and Tony three days. Three. In the movie, he had given them half that.
Which meant that despite how little it felt like it, things were changing, and at that point, you didn't care if it was directly your doing.
Now, you had a bit more hope. With a little extra time, maybe you could help the team. You just needed to find a way to convince Tony and Steve to come to some sort of agreement, of course, Steve didn't really have a problem with compromise, but he had a major problem with the abuse of power the Accords were asking for. So you needed to figure out a way for the Accords to change. After all, none of the Avengers had a problem with taking accountability, but they would need permission from the UN for any actions they tried to take and that could mean deaths that should've been avoided.
Yes, mistakes had been made by the Avengers, especially by Tony, but the Accords weren't just. Tony was signing them out of his own guilt, because of Sokovia. And after what his actions led to, he definitely needed more regulation, but imposing those same restrictions on the rest of the team wasn't fair.
It wasn't right and it could mean the death of countless people as a result, it was no mystery why Steve hadn't been on-board. Tony just wanted a quick fix for all the mistakes he'd made, Steve understood that the Accords wouldn't fix everything and even more people would be put at risk.
"The Accords have to change," you stated firmly.
Tony opened his mouth, ready to retort, but he stopped. He wanted to hear what you were going to say. He had allowed his guilt to influence his own decisions but he couldn't force anyone else to do something because of his mistakes.
You thought of the raft prison in the middle of the ocean, of the way Wanda had looked restrained and most likely drugged. "They aren't right. Look through the papers, there's so much morally wrong with it. I looked through them," you lied, "it mentions a raft prison in the middle of the ocean if you don't comply and they have the right to restrain you and hurt you as much as they think is justified."
Natasha had learned better than to be shocked by the atrocities of the government and so she believed you whole-heartedly, even if she didn't want to think that after everything, people still wanted to treat them like monsters rather than humans.
You continued, desperately trying to make them see how wrong everything was so they could help you make it right. "You can't force Steve to basically sign away all his human rights- you should never ask anyone to do that. This shit is all so deeply flawed and you can't just go along with it. How many people will suffer because of this thing? Because none of you can do anything without the permission of the UN? Taking accountability and being kept in check is fine, but how is keeping all of you as mindless soldiers without a single shred of autonomy any better than how Hydra used the Winter Soldier?"

Every day when you woke up, you liked to watch Steve while he was still sleeping, you were so happy with him. You could even remember when you fell in love with him.
However, the day everything changed, you realized that something would happen because when you woke up, you felt something different in the atmosphere.
Sometimes you wished your powers were precognition instead of retrocognition.
You grabbed one of the ties that Tony had tossed into the living room, and that's when you saw what had happened. Unbeknownst to anyone, Tony had met with Ross, the images after that were a little hazy, but you knew it wasn't good.
Two days after you had the vision, Stark brought them together, Ross wanted to see them all. Steve took your hand as he noticed how tense you were when you heard that man speak, you glared at the documents when he left, you needed to know exactly what was stated there.
You were horrified when you read the Agreements, if you decided to sign them, it meant you were agreeing to be locked up in the Garland Detention Center.
When you were a child, you heard about that place, if any mutant was locked up there...they were never heard from again, it was a place where they experimented on mutants.
The center was supposed to have been closed after the anti-mutant laws were retracted. You knew that some mutants had regrouped and lived in peace, and others worked for S.H.I.E.L.D. and similar organizations.
For the past twenty years, humans, mutants, and other beings had lived together in peace and harmony, up to that point. What they wanted to start was another hell.
Another fear was beginning to appear as well, whose side would Steve be on?
You were too afraid to ask him, however, that night, he began to talk about it.
“Steve, I can't sign that, it's a death sentence, it looks like they want to wipe out mutants... again," you said almost in tears.
“We won't sign it, it goes against everything we are supposed to do and what the Avengers are all about," Steve assured.
“What will we do? We'll lose everything," you whispered.
Steve caressed your face, wiping away your tears, he had always hated it when something made you cry, he didn't like you to suffer or be hurt.
“I'm going to protect you, nothing bad will happen, I promise.
It was confusing what had happened, Tony's damn robots wouldn't let you leave, you were trying to think how to escape, you knew that at any moment they would arrive to take you to the Garland Detention Center, you were not going to allow it, somehow you would run away.
You were startled when you heard the noise outside the room, however, you felt calm when you saw that it was Steve, he had come for you.
“We have to hurry, it won't take them long to notice, Clint went for Wanda," Steve explained quickly.
You arrived at a place you didn't know; however, someone was already waiting for them, and you felt relieved when you realized that they were also mutants.
“You'll be safe here, I know it's difficult, but no one knows about this place.”
“But Steve...”
“No buts, I promised you I was going to protect you.”
“Y/N will be fine here, Captain, we'll make sure of that, “Clarice said.
Two months had passed since you last saw Steve, and you hadn't heard from him.
You had even snuck out once and called the mobile phone number, but you found out it was in Stark's hands, you got rid of that mobile phone, you weren't going to let them track you down and find you.
You knew you were a fugitive, but you preferred that to betray the mutant community.
You peeked through the peephole, it wasn't Steve, but you knew the woman who was there.
You felt as if the world stopped when you heard what she told you, everything seemed to indicate that Steve had not kept his promise, but you didn't understand the reasons why he helped you either.
After Sharon left, you were left there, sitting on the couch in the foyer with a broken heart. As soon as the other mutants noticed, they made an effort to comfort you.
“I can ask Marcos to roast him when we see him “Lorna offered.
“Lorna “Marcos caught her eye.
“What? I'm trying to be nice, maybe that will help him Y/N and feel better," Polaris excused himself.
“Don't mind Lorna, I can give him a beating he'll never forget in his life “John said.
“I don't think any of that is necessary, in time everything will be fine and well, I don't know, I don't know, I'm confused.”
The only good thing about the whole situation was that you had a new family, people who were like you and accepted you, and you knew they would never betray you.
4 years later
You began to hear a lot of noise on the lower floor, although none of the alarms had sounded, so it might not be something important that put them in danger, however, the voices were getting louder, you decided to peek out, as a precaution and see if you could somehow help.
It took you a few seconds to understand what was happening, you even thought that your mind was playing a bad trick on you, there was Steve, but he looked very different from how you remembered him, and you swallowed saliva.
You heard that he wanted to talk to you, but the women were refusing, they were not going to let him hurt you again. It was better to put an end to the situation.
“Clarice, Lorna, Lauren, it's okay, it's not necessary," you said. They began to protest. “I'm going to talk to him, if I need you, I'll tell them.”
The women looked at each other, but left you alone with him, although they stayed close by just in case.
“What do you want? “you asked sharply.
“I found a place..." Steve began to speak, though he was puzzled by your attitude.
“Are you taking your girlfriend? "
“My girlfriend? Y/N, you are," Steve was now too confused.
“The blonde woman, you know, Sharon.”
“I haven't seen Sharon since we escaped from Germany," he clarified.
“She came over, and told me you were together.”
“You can see for yourself, you can see everything I've been through since I left you with them," Steve defended himself firmly, you knew he meant for you to use your power. "I know you still love me.”
You thought for a few seconds, using your powers was the only way you would know the truth, you put your hand on his arm and that's when you saw everything that had happened after he had left you there. He had told you the truth.
It took you a couple of hours to convince everyone of what had happened.
Steve Rogers always kept his promises.

Bucky
Warnings: 18+readersonly, slight mentions of smut/sexual content, but none actually happens
Copyright: I do not own any Marvel characters or locations. However, I do own my OC Elizabeth Lightwood. I do not condone any copying of this.
You strode up to your bedroom and nearly screamed when you saw someone waiting on the bed for you.
"Oh good." Elizabeth said lazily, tossing her knife up once more, twisting her hip so it went blade in, into the sheath on her hip. "I was starting to think you'd moved out or died."
"Cheerful, what in the world are you doing here?" You asked, crossing your arms over your chest, looking at your best friend.
"Heimdall gave me an address." Elizabeth with a smile, holding up a piece of yellowed parchment between her fingers. "For a certain winter soldier who is hiding in Romania."
You dropped your mouth. "Bucky?"
"The one and only." Elizabeth smirked. "But he said he saw some events he didn't fully understand, but thought that we should get there sooner rather than later. Also, Steve is leaving for London because Peggy just died so he can't go and get Bucky. But, we can."
You stared at her for a moment longer then realized what she was saying, "We're bringing Bucky back?"
"Yep. I think so anyways." Elizabeth said. "So let's pack and let's go!"
You hesitated, "Eliza, there's been some very tense conversations recently-"
"About the Sokovia Accords. I heard." Elizabeth rolled her eyes, "I kind've wish I took part in the conversation just so I could roast the Government. Fuck the Government, I am so glad you stood up for yourself and are not signing. Although I wouldn't have retired. Can't you just go work for Nick and recreate S.H.I.E.L.D and make it like a two person business? You and Nick?"
You laughed a little and found yourself grabbing a duffel bag, shoving clothes into it, then money along with a passport, drivers license, and then also weapons. "I'll have to call Fury then when I get a chance. Also, we can take one of the Quinjets. . . I don't know how to fly one but there should be autopilot controls in it."
"I can fly it." Elizabeth said with a shrug, getting off the bed. "Well, probably anyways. I know how to fly the ones from Asgard. How hard can an Earth one be?"
🎃 ::::: 🧡 ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ 🧡 ::::: 🎃
You clutched the arms of your seat with your eyes closed, praying that you didn't die. Elizabeth had managed to get you guys off of the ground and into the air, but you seemed to hit every single pocket of turbulence, which usually didn't happen with Quinjets.
"Can you open your eyes?" Elizabeth complained, "If we die I don't want to be the only one who sees us crash and burn."
You opened your eyes, half-expecting you to be able to see the ground. But all you could see were the clouds.
You had left a message for Tony about going on a slight side mission with Elizabeth, promising that it was not a dangerous mission nor would it screw up his precious Sokovia Accords. You said you would be back within a week.
"So, how are the kids?" You asked Elizabeth.
"Ah, they're great." Elizabeth said, beaming. "I'm actually pregnant right now, but Thor says they're only two months old, so that's why I'm not showing out."
"They're?" You asked.
"Triplets this time." Elizabeth laughed. "I guess Loki's spe-"
"NO!" You nearly shouted, while laughing, "I do not need to hear about yours and Loki's sex life."
Elizabeth smirked. "Fair enough. What about you and Stark?"
You sighed, "We're. . . well we were good. I don't know how he's going to react though with these Accords. We haven't exactly seen each other in private to talk about it yet. I don't know. . . I just can't trust the Government. I mean you would think Tony of all people would realize that the Government shouldn't be trusted. If anything, I thought Steve and Tony's perspectives would be switched."
"Really?" Elizabeth sounded amazed, "Why?"
"Because. . ." You hesitated, "I don't know. Captain America? Being part of the American Government? Kind've sounds like it would be in the name. He was in the army, he's a patriot, I guess part of me thought he would want to sign himself into it as well. He's surprised me though. It's a good surprise, of course."
"As you've said, he's American." Elizabeth said lightly. "And we Americans usually have a good sense of knowing when our rights are being compromised. When they are being taken away. I get the basics behind gun control and restricting the first speech. But when they're actually put into practice, if the Government could actually get away with it, then our freedom is gone. This is just like that."
The two of you were silent for a while, before you started chatting about the easier aspects of each others lives.
🎃 ::::: 🧡 ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ 🧡 ::::: 🎃
"This is it?" You asked uncertainly, looking up at the dingy apartment building.
"Well," Elizabeth said, raising an eyebrow. "I'm sure being on the run hasn't exactly given him the ability to make money. Well, let's go in."
Elizabeth had always had a more hesitant nature about her, so watching her just stride into the apartment building with no plans and no hesitation was disconcerting. But you supposed all of the warrior lessons and everything else that happened on Asgard had made her more confident in herself.
You quickly followed her in. She ran a finger down the board which had names on it, before she started up the stairs. She found the door she was looking for and knocked on it.
Bucky answered the door, looking between her and you and then a apprehensive look came over his face.
"Before you close the door, we came only. No one else knows we're here." Elizabeth said quickly. "And we are armed, but we aren't going to use the weapons of course."
Bucky stared at her.
"Hey," You said softly. "We really are alone. Can we come in? We just want to talk."
Bucky nodded, opening the door a little wider to let the two of you come in.
Elizabeth sat down on the floor, keeping her hands on her knees. You stood awkwardly in the corner, leaning against the wall.
"So, my name is Elizabeth Lightwood." Elizabeth started off quickly. "And I know that you know Y/N Stark. But do you remember that you know Y/N Stark?"
Bucky looked at you and said, "Yes. We were on the Helicarriers. With Steve. My soulmate." He blinked and then said, "I hurt you."
"Yes, but you weren't yourself." you replied, figuring that with his mind as confused as it was already, it was best to only go with the truth. "You were the Winter Soldier. I'm assuming based on my limited knowledge that they are two separate. . . personas?"
Bucky hesitated, clenching his metal fist. "I. . . as Bucky. . . I do not want to hurt anyone. But they say these words and they made me. . . comply."
"What words?" Elizabeth asked softly.
Bucky tensed.
"You're right, that's insensitive." Elizabeth said again. She thought about it. "How many words?"
"Ten."
"Can you tell me only the first two? That way, if someone starts to say them, I will recognize them and I will be able to stop them?" Elizabeth asked.
Bucky looked hesitant and Elizabeth slowly raised her hands, "I swear on everything I love that I will never, ever use those words against you."
You were amazed, watching her interact with Bucky. Yes, Elizabeth had always been caring, but the way that she seemed to know exactly what Bucky needed to hear, or what to say was still fascinating. You wondered why that was. She seemed to have the same reaction with Steve as well.
Bucky hesitated and then said, "Желание, Ржавый." [Longing, Rusted]
Elizabeth nodded slowly, repeating them under her breath so he couldn't hear. "Thank you for trusting me."
"Bucky," You said hesitantly. "Would you. . . do you think you would come back with us? You would be safe with us. And Steve misses you a lot. He's been searching for you for years."
"I. . . will hurt him." Bucky said, clenching his hand again and Elizabeth shot you a look that told you not to push it.
Slowly, Elizabeth stood and then gently sat next to him on the bed. You watched how each movement was slow and nothing was erratic. It was as though she was treating him like a wild baby animal.
"My soulmates name is Loki." She said in a soft whisper. "He is a God from Asgard and he and his mother taught me magic. I cannot take away your pain or the painful memories that you carry. However, I can loosen some of the suppressed memories that HYDRA took away from you. I can help you remember who you are. I can't bring back all of it, at least not right away I'm not strong enough mentally. But I can help you remember enough. Enough so that you will know who you are without anyone telling you who you are- good or bad. You can decide for yourself."
Bucky watched her warily. "Why?"
Elizabeth blinked in confusion, tilting her head like a lost puppy. You saw an almost smile on the lips of Bucky, before he was stoic again.
"Why. . . would you help me?"
Elizabeth was quiet for a moment, as though she was thinking about the answer. "Because. . . I feel this need to help everyone. You see, a few years ago, my soulmate was put under a mind control from a Space Grape- ahem Titan- named Thanos. He couldn't control his actions and he invaded Earth with an alien army and. . . well he killed a lot of people. I watched his mother try and help him with the after affects as he was released from the mind control."
She looked at Bucky seriously. "I suppose because I know I can help you and that you deserve to be helped. I know that you would never have killed anyone the way that you have if you weren't under the mind control. So I know you're innocent and feeling guilty and hurting. So, may I help you?"
There were whirring sounds as Bucky clenched and unclenched his fist. The two girls waited patiently until Bucky said, "Yes."
Elizabeth smiled. "Okay. Will you put your metal hand into this hand?" She held her right hand out, palm out. Slowly, he slipped his metal hand into his. He drew in a breath.
"I- I can't always control this hand. I am sorry if I hurt you."
"It's okay. I have to touch your temple with my other hand. Are you okay?" Elizabeth asked slowly, lifting her left hand up so he could see it, letting her fingers hover by his head.
"Yes." He said.
"I want you to close your eyes. I want you to focus on the most positive thing or person that you remember. Think about that thing or person over and over." Elizabeth whispered, closing her eyes first. Turquoise whisps started at her fingers.
You watched Bucky watch Elizabeth for a moment, before he closed his eyes. Elizabeth put her fingers directly to his temple.
They were quiet for about five minutes. You sat down in the chair in the kitchen and waited. When they finally came out, there were tears coming down Bucky's cheeks.
"I miss him." Bucky whispered. "I miss Steve."
And Elizabeth smiled.
🎃 ::::: 🧡 ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ 🧡 ::::: 🎃
Elizabeth continued to help Bucky every day and you were the one who ran the errands like groceries and what not. And that was how you overheard it. The one thing that you wished you had never overheard.
". . .me. I did it." Bucky told Elizabeth. You could tell he was crying and for some reason, you paused, "I killed Howard Stark."
Your blood ran cold and you swallowed hard.
"But you didn't mean it." Elizabeth said. "You couldn't stop it. I see your mind. You were screaming to stop and you just couldn't. These things that are done to you are not your fault."
"But I was not strong enough to stop it." Bucky said and you heard him punch something. "I. . . am too weak. That is why I can't go back. Steve respected Howard more than Tony ever liked him. Steve. . . he will hate me."
You closed your eyes, tears streaming down your face, hating yourself for what you were going to do.
🎃 ::::: 🧡 ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ 🧡 ::::: 🎃
"Margaret Carter was known to most as a founded of S.HI.I.E.L.D." The woman that Steve had slowly been crushing on said at the front of the pew. Steve was in shock, wondering why Sharon was standing up there, speaking. "But I just knew her as Aunt Peggy."
Aunt?
"She had a photograph in her office. Aunt Peggy standing next to JFK. As a kid, that was pretty cool. But it was a lot to live up to, which is why I never told anyone we were related." She stared straight at him when she said this. He supposed he understood.
"I asked her once how she managed to master diplomacy and espionage in a time when no one wanted to see a woman succeed at either."
For some reason, Steve could suddenly picture Elizabeth- Loki's soulmate- standing there almost rolling her eyes at that comment. He nearly smiled and the image lifted his spirits from his sorrow.
"She said, compromise where you can. But where you can't, don't. Even if everyone is telling you that something wrong is something right. Even if the whole world is telling you to move, it is your duty to plant yourself like a tree, look them in the eye, and say, 'No, you move'."
It was as though Peggy was speaking to Steve from the grave, telling him what he needed to hear most.
And it was decided.
🎃 ::::: 🧡 ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ 🧡 ::::: 🎃
Steve stood in the church by himself, staring at the front altar. He heard heels behind him and wasn't quite sure who he expected to be behind him. Sharon? Y/N? Maybe Heimdall would beam Elizabeth down from the sky and give him something. Or, well, she would probably just brain message him like she had the first time.
He glanced over his shoulder and saw that it was none of the above. It was Natasha instead, wearing a business suit.
He sighed, "When I came out of the ice, I thought everyone I had known was gone. Then I found out she was alive. I was just lucky to have her."
"She had you back, too." Natasha said warmly.
"Who else signed?" Steve asked.
"Tony, Rhodey, Vision."
"Clint?"
"Says he's retired." Nat said.
"Wanda? Pietro?"
"TBD."
"Y/N?"
"Tony says her and Elizabeth are off on some mission. But after her speech, I doubt it." Nat said and then sighed, "I'm off to Vienna for the singing of the Accords. There's plenty of room on the jet."
Steve sighed but said nothing, so Nat continued, "Just because it's the path of least resistance doesn't mean it's the wrong path. Staying together is more important than how we stay together."
"What are we giving up to do it?" Steve asked quietly. "I'm sorry, Nat. I can't sign it."
"I know."
"Then what are you doing here?"
"I didn't want you to be alone." Nat admitted. And then she pulled Steve into a hug.
🎃 ::::: 🧡 ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ 🧡 ::::: 🎃
"Hey baby." Tony said in a tired voice, "Where are you and Elizabeth at?"
"We um. . . We found Bucky." You admitted quietly. You hadn't been sure where the best place to call would be. You certainly didn't want to do it in front of them, but it wasn't like you wanted them to catch you on the phone in the like the back of the apartment building looking all fishy. So you had opted to talking to him while going down to the store and buying a tub of ice-cream.
"What?" Tony asked in shock. "Y/N-"
"Tony, Elizabeth's working some. . . Asgardian magic so that Bucky can become less like the Winter Soldier. See, they put these words into his brain. I'm sorry I don't know the technical process or terms. But when they say these ten words, he becomes a mindless soldier. He can see what he is doing, but he can't stop himself. He kills on their orders, no matter what and he hates himself for it."
"That's absolutely terrible. What is Elizabeth doing about it?"
"She's trying to bring back his memories. The machine you were able to see on the cameras a few years ago, that was a mind wipe. When he questioned about Steve, they wanted to make sure he couldn't remember his soulmate, so that he wouldn't have any problems killing him."
"Fuck." Tony snapped. "I hate them. Maybe I can come up with something to help him?"
You hesitated, closing your eyes. "Tony. . . this isn't something I wanted to say over the phone. If I could, I would say it to your face and then hold you, but I can't. And I can't keep anything from you because we promised no secrets, so I'm telling you the minute we found out. They. . . they wipe his mind after missions and Elizabeth. . . she uncovered that. . . he. . . HYDRA activated the Winter Soldier to kill your parents."
"Where are you?" Tony asked coldly. "I'm going to kill-"
"Tony." You begged, closing your eyes, heading back to the apartment. You were so glad your phone was untraceable. "Please listen to me. It wasn't Bucky. I told you everything beforehand."
"IT'S DIFFERENT WHEN IT'S MY PARENTS!" He roared.
"Tony." You begged desperately. "Please. He respected your father immensely. He's devastated that he's discovered this. He wishes Elizabeth had never uncovered it. He's crying like a child Tony. And I'm sorry. I'm so sorry about your parents, but the one in the wrong is HYDRA, not Bucky."
You were at the apartment doors and you sighed, "Tony, I love you. I'll be home soon, okay? I'm sorry." Your voice cracked and you quickly hung up, putting your hands over your face. You wiped your eyes and headed upstairs.
Bucky and Elizabeth were sitting across from each other. Elizabeth was doing a memory game with him with the flip over cards. They were just images right now of random things. It was a strengthening technic she was using so she wasn't in his head to much.
"Hey Y/N" Elizabeth said cheerfully and then as Bucky found a pair, she beamed, "Great job!"
"Do you have. . . harder ones?" Bucky asked, his cheeks coloured a little.
"I can make some." Elizabeth said thoughtfully. "But this is the only set I have on me right now."
You smiled a little, heart still feeling heavy at the conversation with Tony. You made the ice-cream and then watched Elizabeth and Bucky play a few more games.
"Can you give me all of the differences you feel between your left and right hand? I mean, besides your left hand being made of metal of course." Elizabeth laughed. She had both of his hands in hers and you gave a little start at realizing Bucky was blushing as he looked at her.
Poor Loki. He was going to have competition if both Steve and Bucky gunned for her. Not that they would, of course. Eh, more like poor Steve and Bucky. If Loki found out, they were both goners.
And of course, Elizabeth being Elizabeth was completely clueless to everyone's feelings. She was actually legitimately shit at knowing when people liked her.
"Hey," You said softly. "I'm gonna go to bed early okay? Night guys."
"Good night!" Elizabeth said cheerfully, squeezing Bucky's hands and getting up, putting the dishes in the sink.
"Good night." Bucky said a little slower, like he wasn't entirely sure if he should be saying it. You smiled a little, and then went to bed.
🎃 ::::: 🧡 ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ 🧡 ::::: 🎃
"You don't have to do the dishes." Bucky said slowly, watching Elizabeth wash them quickly. She was so fast at everything, it was strange and amazing. He couldn't remember the last time he had seen some sort of domestic ability like this done so effectively.
With Elizabeth's help, he could remember his mother and sister. His mother had always kept a wonderful house. His sister. . . not so much. Elizabeth was. . . what was the word? Skilled? Efficient? Competent? He wasn't sure.
"It's okay, I like doing chores like this." Elizabeth hummed, setting them down to air dry on another towel. "Besides, it's not like there are many. Are you tired or would you like to do some other things?"
For the first time in a long time, his mind leaped to his pants. It wasn't hard now, to imagine bending her over the kitchen table and railing her from behind.
But as she went and grabbed the ice-cream, putting it in the freezer, he blinked to clear his mind. She wasn't his soulmate anyways. Steve was.
He imagined Steve for a moment and he almost smiled when he felt aroused at the idea of tying Steve up and fucking him relentlessly. Of course, the Steve he was imagining was not the new muscular Steve, but the skinny one he loved. But. . . he was pretty sure he loved both.
"I. . . can you show me the pictures of everyone. . . good?" Bucky asked hesitantly.
"Of course." Elizabeth said, grabbing her tablet. "Come on, we can sit over here." She sat down in a corner, far from the windows and doors. He sat down next to her and looked over her shoulder. She propped the pad up so that he could see easily.
"This is Steve Rogers. Your soulmate of course. His Avenger name is Captain America. And he is, of course, soulmated to you. He's in London right now because Peggy Carter died. Do you remember Steve and Peggy?"
"Yes. I remember both of them." Bucky said slowly. "Steve liked Peggy. Did they. . . did they ever date?"
"I don't know." Elizabeth answered. "I know they shared some kisses after you died and Steve was mourning you. But as for dates, I do not have any ideas."
She swiped and said, "This is Clint Barton. He actually has two soulmates, but he keeps one a secret. His non secret soulmate is Natasha Romanoff."
They continued like that, until she had run out of people to share with him. He felt content and he started to make his bed on the ground.
She put the clean dishes away and then made her bed on the ground as well, next to him.
"You shouldn't be sleeping on the ground," Bucky said alarmed, "Aren't you royalty?"
Elizabeth giggled. "You're adorable. I can sleep on the ground Bucky. You don't have to worry about me. Plus, I've noticed that you sleep better if someone is closer to you. You've had less nightmares."
He hadn't noticed, but now he had.
"Thank you, then." he whispered.
She just smiled, and fell asleep.

Night Night Metal Man
Tony and I met through Shield when the Avengers were first being formed. I was there from the beginning, I witnessed every scandal, every battle I was by his side. Lady Liberty and Iron Man we were unstoppable. I was there when Pietro died, I held Wanda as she sobbed. I even learned some sign language from Clint during our time undercover. Always by his side, even if it meant betraying my beliefs.
So when someone had to fake the fall for the aftermath of Sokovia that also fell to me. Fury needed a scapegoat. and Tony had too much to lose. So I took the blame and published an official account of what "happened". I lied and said I was reckless and caused most of the damage, though the videos from the battle that was currently all over the media said otherwise. I was the only one who even tried not to leave the city in ruins. I even went back to help rebuild the city, but I didn't even get a thank you. Not from Tony or Fury, not from anybody. So imagine my anger when I am called back from Sokovia to discuss The Sokovia Accords. “ 117 countries want to sign this! 117 Sam and you're just like no it's cool we got it” Rhodey argues while I sit with Steve reading the Accords.
“Tony, you're being uncharacteristically unhyper verbal” Nat voices calmly. “He's already made up his mind” I huff flipping the page. “Boy you know me so well” he rolls his eyes sitting up. “ actually, I’m nursing an electromagnetic headache” he began making himself a cup of coffee. “That's what's going on, it's just pain” I now pause to look up at him. “It's discomfort, who's putting coffee grounds in the disposal! Am I running a bed and breakfast for biker gangs?” reflecting always reflecting, I know him better than most people in this room. I can tell he knows the team is falling apart. He pulls up an image “Oh that's Charles Spencer by the way, he's a great kid, computer, engineering degree 3.6 GPA had a floor-level gig intel plan for the fall. first, you wanna put a few miles on his soul before he parked it behind a desk. See the world, maybe be of service” he pauses and I can see the regret in his eyes. “He didn't want to go to Vagas or Fort Lauderdale, which is what I would do, or Pairs or Amsterdam which sounds fun. He decided to spend his summer building sustainable houses for the poor. Guess where Sokovia”
That's when everyone else finally understands we didn't just ruin buildings and demolish the place. We killed innocent people in gruesome awful ways. In a way, we are no better than the people we fight. I realized this when I went back to help rebuild. You can rebuild a building but you can't rebuild a life. The people there will never be the same. “There's no decision-making process here, we need to be put in check! Whatever that takes I'm game, if we can’t accept limitations we are boundaryless and no better than the bad guys.” I can see everyone is still torn. Then Steve speaks “Tony, someone dies on your watch you don’t give up” he has a point but so does Tony I fall into deep thought as they continue to debate. “If we sign this we forfeit our right to choose” I voice what everyone else is thinking. Steve nods continuing my point “This panel sends us somewherewe didn't think we should go, or there's somewhere we need to go, and they won't let us. We may not be perfect but the safest hands are still our own” I nod looking at everyone else. “If we don't do this now, it's gonna be done to us later, that's the fact. That won't be pretty” he finishes. “You're saying they'll come for me” Wanda voices flatly. “We would protect you” Vision gives Wanda a soft look.
“Maybe Tony is right, if we have one hand on the wheel we can still steer” Nat reasons. “Arnt you the same woman who told the government to kiss her ass a few years ago?” Sam crosses his arms as he makes his point. “We would be puppets” I huff frustrated. “I'm just reading the terrain” I hear Steve’s phone vibrate before he quickly makes his leave. “Look, guys, I'm not gonna sit here and take Steve or Tony's side” I Huff looking up at them. They seem to be confused as to where I'm going with this “I'm done, I quit. I'm tired of being your guy's scapegoat, I'm not your mother. In sick and tired of being the only one trying to hold this team together.” I grew angrier and angrier as I spoke. Nat gives me a sympathetic look along with Wanda “Don't contact me about The Avengers again” I finish as I walk through the door.
———————————————————————
After watching Tony hold Peter as he crumbled into dust. I grew numb, I didn’t care weather I lived or died. Which I guess is a good thing when you’re trapped in the middle of space running out of food and oxygen with no way home. At first Tony was all jokes, trying his best to make things better for others. Classic Tony putting everyone else before himself. I on the other hand locked myself in a small room on the ship and didn’t talk to anyone. Nebula and Tony went to sleep I’d go and check on them. That’s all I did. Till one fateful night I decided I couldn’t avoid Tony forever, it was probably our last night with oxygen so I figured I’d make amends. “Hey Tones” great softly as I struggle my way closer to Tony who looks just about as rough as me. He nods in reply not bothering to look over from the window. “The stars get old after awhile huh?” I ask softly. “Yeah, never thought I’d miss earth” he jokes. “Tony?” I ask looking down at my feet. He looks up at me “yeah?” I take a breath before continuing “are we gonna die tonight?” I ask and he only nods solemnly. “I don’t wanna die alone” I whisper softly it was an unspoken question really. He pats the spot next to him and I take it happily. “I never got to say sorry for what happened after the accords” he mutters and I lean my head on him “your forgiven if you forgive me for switching sides, I’m sorry but I couldn’t sit back and watch” he nods at my words “it okay, I understand, I was never mad” he responds. “I’m getting sleepy now Tony” I whisper my eyes gently closing. A silent tear falls down his cheek “me too” he whisper back. “Night night metal man” this is it, my life is coming to an end. At least I’m not alone and the view is nice besides I’ll be dying in my sleep, I’m getting a peaceful death. There’s a bright light but I don’t have the strength to open my eyes. Tony shakes me gently “hey, wake up- we’re saved wake-” his breath is wheezing and he can barely talk but I don’t have the strength to care I’m so sleepy. I’m barely conscious when I’m carried out the ship. My eyes open briefly looking at Tony as Steve helps him down the stairs. Then I go back to sleep again. The next time my eyes open I’m in the hospital surrounded by machines. Thor is the only other person in the room, he’s sat on a chair a furious look on his face. A nurse rushes in as I rip off the IV and the many other cords I’m hooked up too. She pushed me back down into bed as Thor stood to inform the team I’m awake. “Let me go!” I scream at the nurse. She only shakes her head explaining she’s only here to help, but that doesn’t matter. Nothing matters everyone’s gone, Peter, Sam, Dr Strange, Thanos whipped out half of all living creatures. Why was I lucky? Why not me? “Let me go!” I continue to scream as the nurse places an oxygen mask over my face to help me breathe. I continue to try to fight her off me but my attempts weaken as I give up collapsing against the pillows as Steve walks in the door.

miscellaneous civil war thoughts. word count 1214
Ok first Ant-Man is annoying in this one. Sorry. Not really. The airport fight is also annoying. I feel like it should have been taken a lot more seriously considering literally everything that's supposed to be happening. And like most of these movies, there are a few lines and deliveries that are just embarrassing to watch. Tiny guy is big now makes me want to kill myself. But on the other hand Spider-Man throwing a chunk of wall at Bucky did make me almost cry laughing.
On the other other hand I deeply and truly hate 15-year-old Spider-Man's entrance and overall presence here. What a joke.
The Steve and Sharon moment is also a joke mostly because the writers completely abandoned her character for 5 years afterwards. Steve never got her that pardon. I don't think anyone even mentions her again. If there's one thing Marvel hates more than gay people it's women.
It's beyond unfortunate how little of Steve and Bucky we actually see in this one and throughout the remainder of the MCU (which is another topic for another day, but you already know what I mean). We're shown again and again through Steve's words and actions that Bucky is his most important person and that nothing will stop Steve from trying to save him. But they're hardly allowed to even touch each other. The reason for this is so glaringly obvious it would feel a little redundant to even spell it out but it really does make me feel kind of sad. Hollywood is evil. Disney is evil.
That being said, their relationship is still deeply heartfelt and personal and it's so obvious in what we do see. Steve's intake of breath before he asks if Bucky knows him. Bucky smiling at Steve for the first time since 1945. The little nods and the ways they're still able to communicate without words. The way Bucky somehow always manages to drift to his left. Steve looking to Bucky again and again only to find Bucky looking right back. Dropping the shield for him, again. I feel like it's easy to forget that the first shield Steve ever picked up for Bucky wasn't even made of vibranium.
And speaking of relationships, it is also beyond irritating to see Tony lash out at everyone who doesn't completely agree with him. Natasha attempts to reach out multiple times, and the outcomes involve him either shutting her down or talking straight shit. Natasha gives him a hand, and he pushes her away, and it's clearly a big reason why she helped Steve in the end, because he trusts and knows her in a way Tony can't.
In a similar vein, there's another scene that is absolutely crucial to Steve and Tony's relationship. When Tony is trying to get Steve to sign the accords, he ends up mentioning his father, and Steve says he's glad he eventually got to settle down. Tony is quick as ever to make a crack about hating hearing about Steve while growing up, and you can see Steve's face fall immediately. Steve, like Natasha, is always willing to reach out a hand to those who need it, but Tony's ego makes him incapable of taking it. Steve and Tony are not as close as the audience is supposed to believe; they are not family. Like this scene alone is incredibly telling. And I feel like the point of a lot of these scenes is that Tony IS in the wrong for doing this to them, but it feels egregious and it's almost painful to watch him do this to himself, hurt others in the process, and get away with it every time.
And while I'm talking about people who actually feel and care for Steve I have to bring up Sam and Natasha's roles in this one. Sam doesn't have too much screentime but he stands out in every scene he's in. He's an incredible person and character and I wish he had been utilized more. He's always by Steve's side and their friendship is genuinely sweet to see, especially compared to some others. He went with him to the funeral and that alone speaks volumes! He's willing to give it all up to help Steve (he spent 2 YEARS helping look for and save someone he believed to be dangerous just because he believes in Steve), but he's also doing all this because HE believes it's the right thing. It's so good. I'll have to dive more into my Sam thoughts another day.
One more thing about Tony and I was really trying hard to sound unbiased here but he deserved to die just for knocking Sam to the ground. He's a bitch. And sidenote a lot of people try to justify his anger and outbursts in this movie and some of it is reasonable to an extent sure but he just keeps doing all this shit and getting away with it and no one has a problem with this. He brought a high schooler to fight Captain America. Come on. And that's not even mentioning Sokovia.
Natasha's character in this movie gets a lot of flack sometimes and I can understand why, but I think people who say so aren't really seeing her for who she is. It's not that she was with Steve all along, or that she couldn't make up her mind, because it isn't really about Team Cap VS Team Iron Man; she's with her whole team. Everything she does is for her team, whether it's SHIELD or the Avengers, because that's her family. She went to meet Steve at the funeral because he is a part of that family and she didn't want him to be alone. She doesn't want any one of them to be alone! And she is good at genuinely listening to people, so she manages to hear the thoughts of Steve and Tony and everyone else in a way others struggle to do. And in the end she chooses to help do what SHE believes is right, not just her team. Staying together is important to her, but not if it means giving up everything else that makes her who she is.
I want to end this with something positive. I think Bucky is very cute. His hat and his Henley are cute. His hair tucked behind his ears was cute in those 2 scenes. What a sweetheart. That post-credit scene was stupid as hell.
Actually I do have to mention how dumb that is. I don't understand why they had to figure out a way to fix his mind. That doesn't even make sense. It's all conditioning and there's no hack for that. That is not how that should work. Maybe I'd be more understanding if they hadn't kept him in Wakanda for the next 2 years but it's bad and it's lazy and it sucks and this is the hand Bucky is going to be dealt for the rest of time.
Steve is a great character. I just wish this movie had been fully about him.
So all in all Civil War is a pretty pitiful excuse for a Captain America movie and I honest to god don't understand how some of this made it through the writer's room. Whatever.
#not even close to everything i wanted to say#but i don't remember. and this has all been said before anyway i'm sure#i've never liked this movie but it does have a spot somewhere in my heart even if it's cold and a little barren#at the end of the day civil war is bad but it could have been worse. it also could have been a lot better

WORD COUNT: 3.0K Words
You walked with Wanda, your older sister. The two of you were walking through Stark Tower as Tony had called you all for a meeting. You weren't quite sure why the meeting had even been called in the first place. It shouldn't have been to go over a mission as there weren't any new ones yet. So you were just a tad curious about this meeting and what was going to be discussed. Upon arriving into the room you noticed a man standing near Tony. He was someone you had never seen before in the Tower, so you were curious as to who the man was.
His hair was mostly grey, but that was something you didn't mind so much. His eyes were a beautiful shade of blue, something you had taken notice of quickly. You couldn't help the smirk that washed onto your lips as you continued to stare at Everett Ross. But your staring was cut short when the rest of the team had arrived into the room you had been sitting in. Tony walked to the front, his eyes scanning everyone in the room.
"Thank you all for coming, this is Agent Everett Ross. He is here to discuss something with us." Tony explained to the team. He moved to the side sitting down near Natasha while Everett Ross walked to the front of the room. Now that you knew his name your interest in him had spiked slightly.
"Hello, thank you Mr. Stark for calling everyone here." Ross spoke, briefly looking over at Tony.
"No problem." Tony mumbled.
It was clear to you that Tony would rather be anywhere but here. And honestly you had to agree with him. However the only reason you were staying for the most part was because she wanted to truly see for yourself what Everett Ross had to say to everyone. The man stood at the center of the room, all eyes were on him. He wasn't nervous so much, having to talk in front of people had become a regular part of his job. But the second he looked at you, something shifted and it was almost enough to make him nervous.
"Good afternoon everyone. I'm here on behalf of the United Nations to discuss legal documents known as the Accords." Ross began to explain as he placed his hand down on the document and slid it towards Steve Rogers who was closest to him.
You started to wonder why all of a sudden something like this was coming about, had they done something wrong as the Avengers? You knew what had happened in Sokovia, but you weren't familiar with much else. And as for the mission you and the others had been on, nothing damaging had happened, so what was the need. You leaned forward in your chair looking at the documents as Steve opened it to at least read the first few pages if that.
"What is this about?" You asked, your eyes landing back on Ross who in turn looked at you. It was clear that he had been expecting that question but he didn't expect it to be asked by you.
Ross released a puff of air, briefly looking back at Tony who was staring at his team. "The United Nations would like to have better supervision over your team, they would like to decide the places where you go and make sure that there isn't much damage to follow."
You seemed to wince at the words that fell from his mouth. Did the people really not trust any of you enough to protect them? Just because you had powers didn't mean that you were willing to hand everything over and let them dictate where you would go. And you knew that most of the team seemed to feel the same about it. Tony stands up from his chair and walks towards Ross patting his back.
"Great. Thanks for stopping by, we'll look it over and discuss everything." Tony paused, and the called out your name. You gave the man your full attention, pulling your eyes away from the documents. "Will you escort Ross out?" Tony questioned you.
"Sure." Ross looked at you as your response left your lips. You stand up from your chair, briefly squeezing your sister's shoulder before walking towards the glass doors. "You coming or not Agent Ross?" You questioned.
He shook his hand with Tony and walked around, however he turned back around to look at them. "I personally don't think it's worth it to sign these, but just know that I'll be coming back to check in every once in a while regardless of if you sign the papers."
You opened the glass door and held onto it as Ross passed you by. Eventually you followed behind him leading him to the elevator that would take you down to the bottom of Stark Tower where Ross' car had been waiting for him. Once the two of you made it into the elevator you pressed the lobby button. The first few seconds seemed to be as quiet as it could be, and you didn't like that.
"Do you like your job, Agent Ross?" You questioned, breaking the silence that had been evident in the elevator. He turned his head slightly to look at you but you weren't keeping any eye contact with him whatsoever.
"It varies from time to time, but I don't think I would trade it for anything." Ross' answer seemed to be honest as far as you could tell. "What about you? Do you like being a hero?"
The question had thrown you off, it was something you had never been asked before. You had kind of been forced into this life of being a hero. Your older siblings had picked the wrong side, one you didn't want to be a part of and you were still trying to make amends with what had happened. You were still trying to figure out how to move on without Pietro with you and Wanda.
Sure you loved your powers and you loved that you had found people who understood you and helped you to be better than you were, but if you could've chosen something different you most likely would've. But that being said, you liked being able to save those from threats who wanted nothing but chaos and destruction.
"I think I'm still trying to figure myself out, I followed behind Wanda and Pietro because they were the only family I had left. And while I regret my actions from the past I don't regret how I got here and the fact that I can help save people who can't protect themselves, even if they might see me as a monster."
Your answer was the most honest it had been, and Ross was the first person you had truly shared that with. Your sister didn't know the extent of the things that you battled considering that she had still by learning to move on without Pietro. Your words continued to fly around Ross' head as the elevator doors opened. He stepped out and you held the doors open so they wouldn't close.
"Not everyone will see you as a monster, you have to believe that." Ross' voice was soft as he spoke those words.
"I know, but some will and I can't change their mind no matter what I try to do to convince them otherwise." You paused, looking at the floor for only a brief moment before your eyes found their way back to Ross. "I should get back to voice my opinion about the documents even though I'm sure they know where I stand."
"Have a good day." Ross sends you a nod and you. pressed the up button. You were left alone with your thoughts, but the one thing that kept running through your mind was Ross. The way he looked, the way he talked, the way he stood, the grey hair, all of it was something you liked and you couldn't help the crush that was starting to form.
When the elevator dinged, you exited out and walked back to the room where everyone was still sitting, but now they were discussing what Ross had left them. You didn't need to read any of the documents, your mind was already made up. You also knew where your sister would stand and you had a feeling that the others were feeling the same way.
───── ❝ ◂ ❚ ⊱ꕥ⊰ ❚ ▸ ❞ ─────
In the following weeks since Tony and Steve had turned down the documents, not agreeing to sign them but agreeing to different terms instead. Ross had come back a few days later to talk to everyone, get to know them, see what everyone was like. You had enjoyed the time you had been spending with Ross even if you weren't sure how it would end. Whenever he would arrive there you were always right there to greet him.
Ross didn't understand it, he didn't understand why you were always trying to talk to him. Your crush was becoming stronger the more he showed up and the more you tried to spend time with him. Currently it had been a few days since Ross had stopped at Stark Tower to see everyone, he was currently looking for you. Ross had been trying his hardest to avoid you, to stop thinking about you and how clingy you had gotten to him.
No matter what he did you would not leave his mind, even when he wouldn't stop by Stark Tower. You were currently in the pool room swimming laps. Compared to where you had been a year ago things were looking up for you including getting better at swimming. It became a side hobby for you when you needed to clear your mind of thoughts. It worked because you had to focus on swimming rather than what truly plagued your mind.
When you made it to the one end of the pull you pushed off the wall and swam further underneath the water. You stayed under, until you eventually came to the center of the pool. From there you swam to the bottom of the pool and stayed there the best you could. Ross had pulled the door open as that's where he had been told you would most likely be. When you opened your eyes you looked through the water to see a blur of a figure.
Adjusting yourself in the water you pushed off the ground level of the pull towards the surface. When your head popped up from the water there stood Everett Ross, the man of the hour who had been avoiding you for the last several days. He had his hands crossed on his chest as he continued to stare down. You lifted your hands moving them through your wet locks. Then you moved over to the ladder climbing up it and walking over to the table.
"If you're just going to avoid me some more I don't want to hear whatever is going to come out of your mouth." You snapped, though it wasn't in much of an angry tone, rather an annoyed tone. Something Ross had picked up as he turned back around to look at you. He watched from the edge of the pool as you eventually grabbed your water bottle and took a gulp of it.
"I'm not here to avoid you," his voice was soft, probably the softest it had been since you had meant him all those weeks ago.
"Then why are you here, if you don't want to avoid me?" You moved over to the edge of the pool and sat down, throwing your legs back in it. If you needed to make an escape from the conversation you were going to do it by jumping into the pool. Everett took his shoes off and rolled his pants off and then sat down next to you. Your eyes are on him watching the way he holds himself together.
"I wanted to apologize for the way I've been treating you. You don't deserve that, especially from me." You were swooning by the apology, but only on the inside, on the outside you still looked as stern as ever.
"You're right, I don't. But here we are." You regretted saying that after it left your lips. You could see the somewhat hurt expression on Everett's face but he quickly replaced it with a hopeful one.
"I took some time to think about what I wanted, and what I needed and I thought I needed to be away from you. I thought we'd both be better if I put the distance between us. But I can't lie about the things that I feel for you. We've only known each other for weeks, and I guess in a way I'm scared. My last relationship wasn't the greatest and I really don't want to mess anything up with you because I do like you."
"What exactly are you saying then, other than the fact that you like me?" Your stern look had been replaced with a soft one. You needed to hear the words come from his mouth.
"If you'll let me, I'd like to start dating. I have a few date ideas that I think you'll like. I know that I want this and I know you do too." He was right, you did want it. You wanted so badly to be in a relationship with him.
"Okay. But you have to do something for me first." There was a mischievous look on your face as you continued to stare at Everett. He could read the look on your face but didn't know what you had in store for him.
"What is it?" Everett questioned you.
You leaned forward lifting your hands, and with all your strength you pushed him into the pool. He was submerged into the water, clothes becoming wet when they came in contact with the water. You couldn't help but laugh, eventually you jumped in after him and swam over to him wrapping your arms around his torso.
"Thank you." You whispered, as you placed your head on his chest. Everett leaned down and placed a kiss on top of your wet hair, you could feel the smile that was on his lips as he held onto you.
───── ❝ ◂ ❚ ⊱ꕥ⊰ ❚ ▸ ❞ ─────
You and Everett had been keeping your relationship a secret mostly because you didn't know how Wanda would react if you were dating someone, let alone someone who was half your age. But he made you happy and you made him happy. In the months since you had started dating Everett, he was over at Stark Tower a lot more. And the team was starting to pick up on it including Wanda. Currently you were in your room, Everett was holding onto your sleeping form.
A movie was on but it had long been forgotten, you had your legs entwined with Everett and your arm wrapped around his torso, while your head rested on his chest. He had his arms wrapped around you so he could hold you close to him. Everything was perfect and exactly where you needed it to be. Where you had always wanted to be. You felt safe and sound in the arms of the man you loved.
The door to your room started to open, and panic consumed Everett as he shook you awake. You groaned, not wanting to wake up from your sleep.
"I think your sister's coming into your room." Everett's words ran through your ears and it caused your eyes to pop open. But it was already too late for the both of you. The door was wide open and you could see the pure shock and confusion resting on Wanda's face. Eventually it was replaced with angry which wasn't a good sign.
"Wanda, I can explain. Please, let me explain." You climbed out of your bed trying to hold your sister back.
"What are you doing here? She's my little sister!" Wanda's words ran through your ears, she pushed you off herself and tried to get over to Ross who had now climbed out of the bed.
"Wanda, please stop. Let's talk about this." You tried to grab a hold of your sister while Everett talked to her.
"Wanda, please." You cried out, your voice cracking slightly. She looked back at you, hearing the sound in your voice. She had only heard it a handful of times so hearing it now was throwing her completely off.
"Why didn't you tell me?" Wanda asks as she walks over to you.
"Because I knew you would react this way. You and Pietro have always been so protective over me, and I get it but I can handle myself too you know." You felt like you were going to break down and cry, but you were standing your ground in front of your sister. You needed to do that much.
"I'm sorry. You're the only family I have left."
"I know that, but I promise you that Everett isn't going to hurt me. He's the first one to understand me other than you." You were staring at your sister as she looked at you and then at Ross who was waiting to move over to you and comfort you. Wanda sighed heavily, nodding her head to Ross. He took that as a sign and quickly made his way over to you wrapping his arms around your shoulders.
"I mean this when I say it Wanda, I don't ever plan to hurt your sister. I love her, and I would never betray that love for anything."
His words rocked you to the core, Everett Ross had just admitted to loving you. The smile that fell onto your lips was enough conformation to Wanda that you felt the same way. She could see it in your eyes as well. The way that lit up, and now that she thought about it there had been a change in you since the first time you had met Everett.
"Okay, but if you hurt my sister's feelings in any way shape or form, I'm coming for you Ross."
"Understood, but I don't plan to." You smiled and turned towards Everett, placing your lips on him and kissing him softly.

Clint Barton & Matt Murdock Masterlist
Daredevil is an asshole (or just blind) (ao3) - juma_disaster T, 1k
Summary: Hawkeye was deaf. That was a fact that was very known and his teammates always tried to make working with them as comfortable as possible for him. When they were in the middle of battle they would sign Clint short paragraphs so that he doesn’t need to read their lips.
So there was the thing with the famous devil of Hell’s Kitchen. He didn’t even sign short words. Ever.
Clint never asked him specifically to do so, but DD had to see the others sign to Hawkeye at least hundreds of times in these last weeks. So yeah, Clint was a little annoyed maybe even pissed off. And he normally wasn’t easy to piss of. Thank you very much. (Ignoring what Natasha or Ironman might say)
Dumpster Bros (ao3) - tiredpeterparker matt/foggy G, 3k
Summary: Matt and Clint end up forming a weird friendship after crashing in the same dumpster with a background of Matt and Foggy being lawyer husbands
Dumpster Bros......or something more? (ao3) - Smelling for crime (oLiDa_pRo_sCeLeRe) T, 3k
Summary: Who wouldn't have a little itty bitty crush on the Devil of Hell's Kitchen? He's probably the most desirable vigilante according to Clint. Those Abs! And the mystique! However, chasing down the tracksuit mafia leads to an unlikely encounter between Daredevil and Hawkeye, and the pair is forced to utilize one of Natasha's classic undercover tactics in order to escape (They kiss. Clint and Matt kiss).
Basically, just Clint having a massive crush on Daredevil, and then realizing that maybe, just maybe, he should look into dating people again (Also, Clint. You should probably ask if someone is already in a relationship before letting your crush completely spiral out of control).
everybody learns from disaster (ao3) - andibeth82 matt/claire T, 4k
Summary: Three and a half weeks after Clint pulls Matt out of a dumpster and helps him patch up his injuries, he gets Matt to return the favor.
Eyas (ao3) - prettybirdy979 T, 2k
Summary: So they're fighting some Hydra grunt with a grudge and access to Hydra mad-science. Normal day really except no one's quite sure what the gun does, since it doesn't seem to be having a consistent effect. See how Thor is now a baby while Clint's still the same wise-cracking a-hole, if maybe a bit younger than he was this morning.
Then the grunt scores a hit on Daredevil, there to help out, and now Clint has a whole host of other problems. Namely the screaming, recently blinded nine year old.
It's probably going to be a long day.
Fangs (ao3) - nitroglyphics T, 12k
Summary: Matt gets bit by a wolf after a botched mission with Bucky and Clint. He saved a little boy but now his anger is more impossible to fight and control than ever. Turning him into a real animal. And the only people who know are of course, team red. Who offer to help keep his emotional issues a secret for other people in Matt's life.
From Acquaintances to Team (ao3) - Annide T, 1k
Summary: When Clint and Matt have a communication issue during a job, they call Kate for help.
Hurts to Heal (helps to hide) (ao3) - CNWrites T, 3k
Summary: In which Clint Barton is not the only Avenger without superpowers; that is just what he would prefer everyone to believe.
Intuition/Assumptions (ao3) - salvabon G, 2k
Summary: Clint is surprised to find out the others don't know that their ally, a vigilante named Daredevil, is blind. He is pretty sure though. And he really wants to make sure he's being inclusive when making a sign language for work.
let's do everything before we die (ao3) - andibeth82 G, 2k
Summary: “Who’re you?”
“The guy who pulled you out of a dumpster. My dumpster, to be exact.” Clint rubs at his ear unconsciously and the man furrows his brow in a way that looks like it hurts.
“I thought that was a woman.”
Read this, Bitch (ao3) - Lesbian_Cowpoke T, 4k
Summary: Matt gets called to the Avengers Tower for a mission in Hell's Kitchen. Tony thinks he cant read. Matt is a little offended. Before he can address that, he has to go on a mission.
Sticks and Stones (ao3) - chlodobird T, 3k
Summary: When Stick blows back into town and gets himself on SHIELD's radar, Natasha snaps up the mission. No fucking child soldiers on her watch. Meanwhile, Matt heard that his old teacher was back in town, and goes to see what bullshit he's up to this time.
Take All The Courage (ao3) - prettybirdy979 T, 16k
Summary: When what should have been a straight forward mission in Hell's Kitchen goes pear shaped due to lack of communication, teaching his teammates sign language seems like a logical step to Clint. Communication when their comms are down - great plan! And including the local vigilante, who's been working closely with them on this, is a real no-brainer.
Until it turns out said vigilante is an asshole that thinks sign language is beneath him, judging by the way he's stubbornly refusing to learn it.
(Conversely - Matt's trying, he really is but damn it, those two signs are exactly the same... what do you mean they mean completely different things?!)
To all the dumpster talks and weird shit (ao3) - Marvel_10 N/R, 529
Summary: Matt Murdock and Clint Barton have a little holiday get together with friends.

Just be honest if you want to punish Tony Stark for his faults.
I just read a Wanda Stan post that says that Tony never took any accountability for his actions, saying that he really needed to just take responsibility. Admit his wrongs, and all that. Except that was clearly not what they ment when I read the rest of the rant.
About half the points were good in the beginning, but I could never reblog such a flawed mess of the strawman fannon argument it devolved into. They repeatedly say paying money to help fix things after the fact or setting up programs to try and prevent it from happening again doesn’t count as taking responsibility. That all Tony's charity work, which predates Ironman, is meaningless because money is meaningless to someone that rich. They go on to say none of Tony's positive actions in any of his movies matter, and (while accusing the pro-Tony set of using fanfiction as arguments) claiming that Tony fully approved the sale of every weapon Obadiah sold on the black market under the table. It gives the impression that Tony personally signed off on the order to bomb Wanda's home. Ford is not responsible for what Darrell Brooks Jr. did with their potentially deadly product. Sokovia was a war zone canonically. Is the company in Egypt that made the bombs Russia bought the only responsible entity for the deaths in Ukraine? I thought not.
But that's not what got me to rant. You know how Tony fails to take responsibility for the problems he has in his relationship with Pepper Pots according to this?
Blaming his own bad decisions for their breakup.
Excuse me, but if I make a bad decision and I say afterwards "my life got messed up because of this bad decision I made" then guess what?
That is the textbook definition of taking accountability for one's actions. He said he messed up and tried his best to do what the person he hurt wanted to make up for it, and he succeeded in that effort.
What more do you want? He's not perfect and he certainly isn't a white knight on a shining horse, but at least be fair to the man. He tries to do better, and sometimes he does it wrong.
He got it wrong with Peter. Even if he knows the kid is nearly indestructible and expected to just have a conversation to settle things with Steve in Civil War, he still shouldn't bring a minor overseas to a fight. He knows it, too, and that's probably part of why he backs off and lets Happy be a man in the middle.
He gives Happy the responsibility of monitoring Peter because Tony doesn't think he is able to do it well - the last kid/superhero he tried to make was Ultron, and if he's a monster for that then let's be consistent and applaud him for being more cautious this time. If it really was all Tony (and not any influence from Bruce who also worked on Ultron or the corrupt mind stone scepter that forces people to experience negative emotions, and we'll pretend that Tony is obviously lying when he says "we didn't have an interface") that messed up Ultron as Tony clearly believes to be true by the time of Civil War, then having someone else as Peter's first contact is a good decision. Tony doesn't know that Peter is too intrinsically good to go down a dark path. I don't think he believes in that kind of goodness in people, anyone can go wrong with the right motivation in his mind which is why he scoffs at Rogers saying that everyone has evil ulterior motives except his Avengers 'safest hands,' but I digress.
It was Happy who dropped the ball by never responding to Peter, or telling his boss that this was a task he just couldn't handle and needed to be given to someone else. Yes, he is an employee, but Happy doesn't have the same relationship to his boss as the average fry cook has to the Burger King CEO. Stark might insist that Happy give it another try, but he isn't going to fire him. In the meantime, Happy could have texted back once or twice - even just to tell the kid that the constant alerts weren't alright on what was supposed to be an emergency line and he should keep the status updates to once or twice a day.
So many of these stan rants make it sound like only one person can be in the wrong when a mistake is made. This is childish. That Tony was wrong doesn't mean others were not also wrong. That Wanda was wrong doesn't mean she wasn't lied to. Shared responsibility doesn't mean you pick a scapegoat that get 100% of the blame, nor that someone else taking part of the blame fully absolves everyone else.
Natasha feels guilty she didn't notice that she was going on missions that helped HYDRA goals after CA: Winter Soldier because she feels she should have been able to tell the difference. It is not entirely her fault, but she isn’t blameless and wants a new, clean, chain of command to replace SHIELD because she recognizes that she could be misled into doing the wrong things if she is only relying on her own BS detector and information gathering skills.
Yes, please do also apply this to Wanda Maximoff joining Hydra. She didn't know at first, but she certainly knew by the time we met her.
Yes, a boss is responsible for an employee screw up when they give bad direction, but so is the employee when they ignore their responsibilities. So Happy does share that blame. The oof is a big oof, and there is plenty to go around.
One final note:
This is not taking accountability, this is punishment:
If the only thing that would satisfy you that Tony Stark has real remorse for his actions is him groveling on his knees, you don't want accountability you want punishment. Be honest about what you want.

I have a rant about two characters who I think have similar traits, and not in a good way.
Spoilers for the Harry Potter universe and Captain America Civil War, that’s your warning for spoilers, you can’t get mad at me for spoilers.
So, after talking with a friend in a discord server, I want to come here and talk about the terrible similarities between Dumbledore and Steve Rogers. Now on the surface, they don’t appear to have many, but if you take them from specifically CA:CW and PoA, there are many.
For one, they both have the mentality of “sacrifice a few people for the greater good.”
In CA:CW, Steve doesn’t want to sign the accords because he doesn’t want to be restricted. He is willing to sacrifice the few lives of civilians, in order to save stop whatever threat. Yes, people will die in a situation like the battle of NY, but when he doesn’t try and save the lives that can be saved, that makes him shitty. For example, in CA:CW, his whole thing is about Bucky. He didn’t care about anyone’s feelings, he only cared about Bucky. When he went after Bucky, and the bridge collapsed and that chase was happening in Germany (I think? It’s been a bit since I’ve seen the movie) many people got hurt that didn’t need to get hurt. Or the airport fight, that was no need. He only cared about one thing, finding Bucky. He was willing to sacrifice anyone in order to save his best friend. He hid the death of someone he considered a friend, parent’s death, just because the killer was his best friend. And Bucky stans don’t come for me, he is one of my favorite characters. I know he was the winter soldier when he killed them, but they still died. Steve took Tony’s money to look for his parent’s killer, because Steve was stuck in the past. He was seen as a great person to the world, yet he did some shitty things. Yes Tony wasn’t a good person either, yet he tried to make sure that the world was safe, Steve only wanted Bucky to be safe.
Now onto Dumbledore. Throughout the entire series, he proves that he doesn’t care about Harry like he tries to say he does. If he really cared about the safety of his students, he wouldn’t have let Voldemort entire Hogwarts, multiple years. You can’t tell me he didn’t know, because if he’s this great wizard like everyone says, then he would totally know that Voldemort was in the school. And in PoA, when Sirius escapes Azkaban after being falsely accused of being a traitor, it comes out that he knew Sirius wasn’t the traitor, yet he kept it quiet for TWELVE YEARS. He led multiple people to their deaths, even if it wasn’t explicit, he was still responsible for the deaths of people like James and Lily, Remus, Sirius, Tonks, and many more. He was only worried about Harry beating Voldemort. He left Harry in an abusive home because he wanted Harry to be moldable to his liking. He wanted Harry to trust him so he left Harry in a home where he wasn’t welcome. And Sirius should never have stayed loyal to him after it came out that Dumbledore knew that Sirius was innocent, yet he said nothing. Yes he’s not the minister, but he has so much power that he could’ve gotten Sirius a trial to prove he’s innocent. He was biased towards the Gryffindor students, specifically Harry, because he wanted Harry to be his pawn in a game bigger than Harry.
Both are written as characters you’re supposed to love and trust, yet if you really look into what they’ve done, they are not good people, they only want people to think they’re good people. And if you disagree with me, that’s your opinion. But this is what I think about these two characters.
Anyway, that’s my rant. Enjoy.
#captain america civil war#Harry Potter#prisoner of azkaban#Steve rogers is a bitch#Dumbledore is a bitch#they are both shitty people and I stand by that#remember yall this is my opinion

i felt guilty for glaring, i felt guilty for trying to push him away by bringing up tony, for accusing him of only caring because our boss told him to. especially when alex genuinely seemed relieved - and when he told me that he had come of his own accord, it was hard to look at him. for some reason, he made me want to cry, and i couldn’t start crying again, because i felt like if i did, i would never live it down. if tony hadn’t sent alex it meant someone else had told him, which meant they were talking about it, which meant they were talking about me. no one had actually been mean to me, but there was a certain dark humour that clung to us, and the idea of being the butt of the joke made my stomach turn, filling my head with the familiar, grim, smog of being the one who didn’t fit in. i was starting to slip away from myself when his hand reached out, a careful finger under my chin, holding me in place as i held my breath. my eyes found his, and i watched him study the marks that had been left on my skin. ugly marks. still raw and fresh enough that i could almost see them reflected in his gaze. i wanted to believe him, as he assured me it wasn’t my fault; more than anything else in that moment, i wanted to know that i didn’t deserve this. except i did - because i’d seen the danger signs, and, like usual, i’d ignored them, thought myself smart enough to deal with them. i’d gotten myself into trouble again, because i was an idiot. when the client’s expression had darkened, and his grip on me turned from insistent to furious, i’d watched his face shift and morph into someone else - and i had really thought he was going to kill me. but i couldn’t tell alex that because then i’d have to tell him who i’d seen. Ii opened my mouth, eyes still stinging with the threat of tears, but suddenly he was pulling me into a hug. i felt my body melt into alex’s, sinking against him as my arms snaked around his waist. i squeezed my eyes closed, pressing into him and, finally, letting out the breath i’d caught when he’d touched my chin. “ you don’t have to. ” i mumbled into alex’s chest, although i didn’t let go of him. “ i’ll be fine, it’s not as bad as it looks. ” that wasn’t quite true, but i refused to be a burden on him. i finally leaned away from him, releasing him from my own embrace, and looking at him with a half-sad smile. “ sorry if… if i freaked you out. ” and sorry for being such a bitch when i saw you. my hands curled into balls inside the sleeves of my hoodie, the plastic lighter digging uncomfortably into my palm, it gave me something to focus on, and i squeezed harder. i liked this job, i was good at it, it wasn’t fair that it had gone so horribly wrong so quickly. violence wasn’t a part of it, it wasn’t something i was equipped enough to deal with - i hadn’t been able to do anything at all, i’d barely managed to get to the button, i’d just let him hit me, sobbing and useless all over again. then i’d just run away, shrugging off help and attention because it was wrong, it was all wrong, i wasn’t a victim, i couldn’t be seen as a victim… and i couldn’t shake the old man’s face from my recollection of it. “ look, i really need to get out of here right now. ” i murmured, finally tearing my gaze from alex’s, focusing on anything else i could - eyes fixing on the floor, breathing in the faint smell of weed, feeling the thunder that had been my heart slow and steady to a drumbeat instead, ignoring the ache on my face, the thick constricting feeling on my neck. “ you don’t have to come if you’ll get in trouble. ” please come with me. please. “ just feels a bit shit, you know? ”
" looks like we got another one down, " said miranda as she pushed her way into the break room, her tone remarkably hollow for what that actually meant. i frowned as the room groaned. that was the third time that week i heard about someone getting assaulted. the ill-timed gallows humor around the club was that these things always happened when the stock market tanked, like a billionaire's full moon, but given it was only friday, i was really starting to believe it. miranda tossed her heels to the general location of her duffel bag. " ugh, who skunked up the break room? alex, again? " she shot me a look.
" for fuck's sake, it wasn't me! " i said, showcasing a pair of empty hands. she gave me another scorned look, flipping on the fan, and i pouted. ryder smirked at me from the floor, dabbing out the blunt as if we hadn't been just sharing it minutes prior. i sipped at a mug of water to mask my amusement, nearly choking as it went down. it was my fourth cup, attempting to wash down the ashy taste that the weed couldn't quite peck away. at first it was a joke, but i couldn't help but think my previous john tasted strangely like the grave. for someone with virtually no gag reflex, i nearly vomited on him. " so, whose poor soul was it this time? " i asked after finally catching my breath.
" heard it was that new kid. kai, i think his name was? " she said with a shrug. " you know, the one with the silver hair. "
my heart sunk deep into my stomach, as if someone had suckerpunched me in the gut. someone else said something, but i was already up and out, swimming through the hallway as if i were underwater against a current, my legs practically moving without me. kai was coded? not him, anyone but him. i broke through the line of dancers who were getting ready for their final act, pushing through the door to the back parlour when someone grabbed me by the shoulders, snapping me back into myself. i stared at them without seeing. " let go of me. please, i— "
" alex, look at me. " it was tony. he looked frustratingly calm as he held me in place. i wanted to hit him. " he's fine. just a little shaken. he needs some time t— "
" then let me hear that from him. you will let me go right now, tony, or i swear to fucking god, " i said, my tone dropping out of alex, and immediately into myself. cold, monotonous, unfamiliar. i must have frightened him because he swallowed, and begrudgingly stepped aside. i pivoted into the parlour, and twisted the handle to his bedroom door. uncharacteristically, it was locked. " kai, it's me. open up. " i pressed my ear to the door, and gently rapt my knuckles. nothing. i forced myself to walk back in the direction of tony again, ripping through the curtained hallway and wading into the dressing rooms.
when kai jumped, the thing in my stomach that hadn't quite hit the bottom finally crash landed. " oh, thank god, " i said, finally releasing the breath i hadn't realized i'd been holding. i shook my head, my hands clapping at my sides incredulously. " no, i rushed here on my own. "
i didn't know what i expected. kai looked awful, completely downtrodden and raw with hurt. the place on his cheek that always perked up whenever he smiled was swelling so rapidly in swirls of purple and green, his throat fist-bruised and angry; he was trying to stay strong, i knew, to keep his wits about him, his expression stiff and tight-lipped as he glared at me, but i could tell he was falling apart at the seams. i watched the lighter fall to the floor a third time, and i couldn't bear it.
" hey, look at me, " i instructed, closing our distance and gently inspecting his wounds with a delicate finger underneath his chin. my skin prickled at the thought of tony. " oh, fuck him. god, don't ever let him think you're the problem, you hear me? it's never you. never. " the longer i stared at him, at his wounds, the more my worry cinched painfully around my throat. i watched him from within a growing blurry haze and i forced myself to blink it back, suddenly enfolding myself over him in a deep self-indulgent embrace. " god, i was so worried about you. let me, um — let me, " words were crashing in my throat like a train wreck, my childhood speech therapy suddenly failing me as i sniffed. i paused, and started again, " let me g-get my things. i'll walk you home, alright? "
