His throat was sandpaper, his vocal cords stiff, perhaps all from the unbearable chill, but Jayce had blood running down his brow and at the corner of his mouth, and snow be damned. Victor found no metal claws. No insensate appendages. No view through the Arcane. He shook and croaked out another sound— a whimper or a sob— and let sheer human emotion drive him to haul Jayce’s form into his arms.  Jayce’s clothing and armor dug unforgivingly into Victor’s naked skin, but he remained determined to tug the blanket around both of them while tucking Jayce’s head under his chin. Dread scraped at his heart until he shoved cold fingers against Jayce’s carotid and found a beat, although slow.  For some reason, fate had decided not to strand Victor with his partner’s corpse, and he would be thankful of that forever. Even if it was a short forever, given their dire exposure.

Been cooking up Tales of Arcadia OC lore...

Maren was an apprentice under Ceridwen who lived on Avalon. She would come to Camelot to get supplies for her alchemy, where she met Hisirdoux. Her master was part of the independent group of sorcerors who disagreed with Merlin so heavily siding with Arthur, and because Hirisdoux worked under Arthur, he was not seen in a good light. Still, Maren and Hisirdoux got along very well. It was rare to find someone their age who also happened to be a magic apprentice. Under the guise of courtly love, the two simply were in love for loves sake. Both young adults lacked the full comprehension of why Merlin's work was so looked down upon. They were never discovered. There was no dramatic reveal and consequence to their love. Rather, one day, Maren simply stopped showing up.

Unbeknownst to Douxie, Maren's body and her magic were being used to power what would become the Heart of Avalon. She was placed in stasis in a larger capsule which would be picked away at to supply magic to a variety of magical items. Maren, with her vast expertise in alchemy, was able to perfect something that could make the greater stone replicate any type of magic the user desired at the price of her powers needing to imbue the stone at all times. She couldn't possibly waste her life every day keeping the same spell going, so in order to fuel her masterpiece, Maren put herself inside, using her body's essence to power her masterpiece. This reserved her in an ageless stasis, keeping her at 19 physically.

Meanwhile, the Battle of Killahead Bridge took place, blah blah blah this is show lore not my lore, wizards are also locked at an immortal age, with Hisirdoux also being permanently physically 19. Hisirdoux never knew what happened to Maren. He would often reminisce on what they had, until he was able to move on to other things. He had basically permanent time on his hands. He couldn't spend his centuries waiting for a girl.

900 years passed, and the Stone of Avalon had long since been forgotten with the rest of true Camelot. The stone had been worn thin and useless. As it grew smaller and smaller, Maren inside became more and more conscious until one day, she woke up. She had no idea how long she was gone, thinking of it as a very long sleep. To her, 900 years had felt like a night. She was now located somewhere in Arcadia Oaks, which she would soon come to find out as she walked right out into it. She stuck out like a sore thumb, her medieval clothing contrasting heavily against modern t-shirts and jeans.

She comes to find Hisirdoux, now Douxie. He looked so.. different. His long black hair cut shorter and partially dyed blue. His clothing entirely different. She did not understand. Why was everything so strange? Where was Avalon? Camelot? Merlin? She couldn't tell. Finding the right time, she approached Hisirdoux, who was shocked to see her. He believed himself to be seeing a ghost, an apparition of a long lost young adult romance from his... somewhat more immature years.

After all this time, Maren hadn't changed a bit... but how much had Hisirdoux changed?

AND THESE ARE MY NOTES FOR POSSIBLE IDEAS FOR THA STORY (that is if I ever make this into a real fanfic..)! YAY!

Maren will eventually start to age, as she wasn't affected by the bridge magic. Unless Douxie hits her with an immortality spell (which would take a lot out of him), Maren will age as normal and someday die while Douxie is stuck at the same age (like a vampire minus all the actual vampire stuff) 

Douxie feels bad not being the same as he once was. Maren still has so much light and hope for things, but he knows just how dangerous things have become in her absence and what evil her work has been used for.

Maren and Douxie are both technically homeless, as Douxie lives in a spare room at the bookstore he works at, and he offers to let her stay a while against his better judgment. Maren feels like she needs to step up to support them both, but she has no valuable job experience. Arcadia doesn't exactly have a lot of ‘alchemist’ jobs available. Douxie then feels guilty for ‘burdening her’ with his money problems.

Maren is still just as in love with Hisirdoux as she was at the start, but then she notices how new of a person he is, and she starts to doubt their stability. Douxie is unsure if he could ever love Maren in such a way again. After all, that was 900 years ago. 

Maren wanted to tell Douxie she was going to be gone for a very long time, but a charm was placed on her where she could only tell the secrets of the Stone of Avalon to those who were part of the Avalon Guild of Magic. This excluded Merlin and Douxie, so Maren could never tell him what was going to happen, leaving him wondering for centuries.

Douxie wants Maren to live much better than he does, but he knows Maren would struggle socially in the modern day. Bunkhouses and homeless shelters would overwhelm and scare her with all the unfamiliar people. This is when Doux really realizes how much of a lifeline he is for her. He lets her stay in GDT's spare room “for a few months”, leading to them spending at least a few hours a day together. Maren also eventually gets hired full-time at GDT when Douxie finally confesses he's been hiding a whole human being in his room (he was scared his employer would charge him rent if he had more than himself and his cat). This was the compromise they settled on… plus a little rent from the both of them.

Douxie takes advantage of public facilities (street showers, food banks, etc). He feels bad for putting Maren through something that he views as “embarrassing”. Maren, however, feels no shame in using such things. She's grateful to have such resources and does not understand why Douxie's situation has such a stigma.

Maren and Douxie had only ever kissed once. They both forgot what it felt like.

Maren is fascinated by movies. She originally thought they were magical until Douxie explained the process of how they were done, which only amazed Maren more. How could regular people do something so amazing without magic? It becomes one of her new favorite things about her new life
