14 March 2020 - I had a look around and these are the themes who’s aesthetic I want to steal
So I looked through the Tumblr accounts I’m following above are the ones with the clean and minimal foundation that I want but also the pop of colour I’m looking for.
To be honest, the difference between these blogs and mine is that they have a logo which brings the pop of colour I’m looking for and even thought it’s not colour all over the whole blog, it still has a big impact. Also because there’s actually artwork on the blog it seems more colourful as well compared to mine which is a lot of text most of the time.
So doing a quick analysis, these are the points I want to grab and incorporate into my blog:
The blog links and headings are to the left of the page.
The sidebar to remain static when scrolling through the blog (so the important information and links are visible at all times).
Each post is dated (not super suuuper essential but it would be nice just to mark the consistency of my blog posting. Also, kinda weird quirk but if I was someone coming across my blog or one similar, I’d want to know when it was that it was posted).
The blog info is visible on the home page.
Marie Lucie Theme: Cassadaga by MBACANI - The posts are central of the page - The hashtags are visible under each post - The side bar with the icon and information is quite far into the centre of the page
Olivia When Theme: Cassadaga by MBACANI - The icon is a gif (I didn’t know that could be a thing.
Sidenote: I didn’t realise that these two blog had the same template until just writing out this part of the post. But what’s good to see is that there are slight differences between the looks of each bog which means that it has flexibility to the custom-ability.
Jennifer Xiao Theme: ville-noire.com (the site is currently unavailable) - The icon is a gif
Matt Rockefeller (saving the favourite for last) Theme: Unknown (possibly he created the theme himself) - The font looks amazing. Don’t know how to explain it but it’s evenly spaced with slick and sharp edges giving a very professional look. It’s not too rounded, not too narrow or wide and has the chunky boldness that I like in title fonts. Also it’s very easily readable. - The solidness of the black type contrasts well with the pops of colours of his icon artwork which has no black. - Each post has the info I want; date posted (well...almost, it has the amount of months ago which it was posted. If I was being suuuper finicky, having the exact date would be more preferable.), and tags.
In conclusion I’m glad I did this little analysis exercise because I discovered some aspects I wanted which I hadn’t thought of before; mainly that I want a sidebar for the information and links rather than a header. I wish I’d done this exercise as part of my professional practise exercise in my final year of uni, could have gotten myself some more points.
Anyways, after all this effort I’ve decided to go for a theme which is actually not listed above but I did come across whilst snooping through art Tumblrs. You can see it here https://losassen.tumblr.com/ on Lauren Sassen’s Tumblr. I like the neatness of the boxed links and the visibility of the next page arrow.
