Am I the only one who can’t tell Nix from Roco? They look so alike to me
High heels and strict mum - such a familiar Eastern European context
Why do they translate school marks with an American system? As if only Americans speak English lol
I love this remake!

Not a dream
Sorry for the influx of personal posts today, I just have a lot of thoughts. Like, for example, Sailor Moon never registered as anime in my brain. It was dubbed in English for some reason. It was shown in Croatia on one of the 5 channels we had here while I was growing up and I religiously watched it every day, reruns and all, I was a massive fan. Still am. To me, it was a cartoon when I was a child. Everything animated that was shown on tv was called a cartoon here, so I thought it was one too. I collected Sailor Moon items, memorabilia, etc. Really freaking loved that show.
Now, I always thought I never really watched anime. Maybe one or two, and that was with friends who were fans and got me hooked on something, but never on my own.
Until it hit me one day, when I was already well into adulthood. Sailor Moon is anime too.
Same goes with manga. Never really read it that much, although I do read some online published stuff nowadays. I did love comics growing up. One day, my mom bought me the first issue of something that was just starting to be imported here. It was Peach Girl. I fell in love with Momo. I felt for her, I rooted for her. I thought it was a comic, I didn't know what manga was. It took me a while to remember how to correctly read it. I still have my old issues in a box somewhere.
Or when I got into Japanese cinematography through a director I liked. Then I branched out and started watching Thai and Korean horrors. I watched a Chinese historical drama. I fell in love with Bollywood. Got hooked on European indie films. I stopped caring for labels and started searching things in many different languages, from many different countries. I grew up watching telenovelas. I listened to German emo bands growing up. Turkish shows were all the rage here when I was a teen and I still cry over Aşk-ı Memnu. I accidentally discovered a Polish rap group on Youtube in my recommended, and despite not understanding a single word of what they are saying, the music called to me. I love Indian romantic dramas. Sometimes they would be shown here and I would catch any I could. Devdas is one if my favorite movies ever.
I like old movies. I like silent movies too. I like movies from former Yugoslavian countries. Incantesimo was the biggest show here in the summers when I was a child. Kommissar Rex still has a special place in my heart.
I loved Xena (American show) growing up. Sailor Moon (Japanese show), and W.I.T.C.H. (both comics and the animated series, Italian comics, French-American series). Totally Spies! (French Canadian). I loved shows with strong female leads doing incredible things. The little fairy Amalka was my idol when I was small (Czech and Slovak).
La vie devant nous (France), The Tribe (New Zealand), H2O: Just Add Water (Australia), Skam (so many countries). Love(d) those shows.
So what I am trying to say, the world has to offer you so many things. I have seen others put people down for listening to music in languages they can't understand or watching shows from other countries. Those things should be bringing us together, not setting us apart. As long as you are respectful to the place and culture it comes from, you should not be afraid to seek out content, to love that content. Just been thinking about some things today. Thinking how happy I am to learn new things and open up my heart to different experiences.
