When Sou gets his hands on Kai's laptop, he learns of the system chip located in Rio Ranger's head. He also learns that Ranger's whole life is operating on half of a heart, filled with nothing but rage and insecurity. It's pitiable. Nonetheless, they need that chip.

Operation: Kidnap Rio Ranger is a go.

Megamind AU (ShinRio)

Presentation:

The first time Rio kidnaps Shin Tsukimi, it’s total chance. He wasn’t being taken seriously as a villain! Keiji would always stop him with a hearty laugh, clearly remembering the silly freshman Rio from high school who could never manage to get along with anyone. He hasn’t been making a large enough impact with petty crime. He needs to go big! Go bold, go home!

“You don’t mind if I take a seat, do you? You look like you could use some company.”

Sara contemplates kicking at Sou, but decides he probably wouldn’t survive it, even as weak as she is. Instead, she turns away, content to ignore him.

“Hey, Safalin,” he continues. “What’s with the machine?”

Considering other people and their relationships has never been something that Alice thought worthy of his time. He had his mind and heart full of the poetic aria of his lost bond with Reko, a bond he never imagined he would rebuild- a bond he now never could. Truly, he had never expected the lyrical tale of the two Yabusames to be a tragedy, despite his own departure from his sister’s tale three years ago. Those newly forged lyrics spend their time carving fresh wounds with every step he takes further in his life beyond Reko. It cripples him, causing a physical pain so deep in his gut that he doubles over sometimes. Since that… moment, he’s been seeing reprises of himself and his lost sister amongst the other captives of this wretched game.
