Note
how do you think i bring up to my parents that i might have adhd :((
my mums a doctor so maybe she'll get it but idk abt my dad </3
Hi there,
I found some sources that can hopefully help. This first one is an excerpt from an article:
Preparing to Talk to Your Parents about ADHD
If you want your conversation with your parents to go well, it’s a good idea to do some prep work first. Laying some groundwork will make the journey go more smoothly.
Lay the foundation well before the actual conversation about ADHD. Without mentioning ADHD, talk about frustrations and difficulties you are having. When you bring them up during the ADHD conversation, they won’t be new and thus won’t catch your parents off guard.
Know your goals. What do you want out of the conversation? Do you just need your parents to listen and understand? Do you want them to support your desire to see a doctor or therapist? Do you want them to hire a tutor to help you learn to study? Knowing precisely what you want to achieve in your conversation will help keep you focused as you talk.
Predict potential emotional reactions you may have so you can manage them. ADHD can make people quick to anger, so if you’re aware of things that might make you fly off the handle, you can either steer clear of those topics or recognize your feelings when they happen and breathe deeply to slow down your emotional reactions.
Pick a good time to ask your parents if you can talk about something important to you. Wait until they’re not distracted. Pick a time that works for everyone and a place that is comfortable and distraction-free.
Once you’ve completed these steps, it’s time to tell your parents about ADHD.
Tips for How to Talk to Your Parents about ADHD
Talking to your parents about ADHD symptoms you’re experiencing and difficulties you’re having is a very good idea because it will help move you forward toward help and support for ADHD. You might find some or all of the following tips useful.
* Be clear and direct so your parents know exactly what you’re experiencing. It might be helpful to write down a list of your concerns so you can refer to them.
* Listen to your parents, and understand their point of view. Listening to them shows them you’re serious and allows you to respond to their concerns.
* Let them ask you questions, and give honest responses.
* Avoid getting angry by paying attention to your thoughts and emotions, breathing, and asking for a break if necessary.
* Print out an ADHD symptoms checklist and highlight areas that affect you. Talk to your parents about how these areas are keeping you from being successful and working toward your goals.
* Suggest a trial period. Ask them to let you see a doctor or therapist to try ADHD treatment for a few months. You can all see how it goes and re-evaluate things after the trial period.
Quite often, parents resist acknowledging ADHD because they don’t want to see their son or daughter labeled or put on medication. The best way to know why your parents dislike the idea of you having ADHD is to ask them. They can share their concerns with you. Then, you can acknowledge their concerns and explain why it will be helpful for you to be evaluated for ADHD and ADHD treatment.
Talking to your parents about ADHD can feel intimidating at first, but with some prep work and using these tips, you just might find that the discussion is a positive one that leads to ADHD help.

Hey I’ve seen some of ur posts where u talk abt ur adhd n im kinda suspecting I might have it but im no too sure :/ I’m very forgetful, procrastinate a hella ton and i have a lot of anxiety. I’ve also had depression before and im very very perfectionist. I’ve always been in the top of all my classes since middle school but it takes me ages to get things done (this has gotten worse over the years). I overthink a lot and I literally can not understand instructions like . im a lost cause lmao it’s like the info processes so much slower when someone is giving me instructions abt smth rather than when they’re just talking. Even then I tend to like zone out at times out of nowhere.. I daydream all the time, like way too often. Idk if any of this correlates w each other maybe some might be bc of smth else than adhd but idk i cant afford therapy n i just thought maybe if u recognize these patterns to be indicating adhd, id like to know what u think from ur persoective :/ im sorry if this is an inconvenience too pls just ignore if it’s too much :( have a lovely day/night 💜💜
no need to apologize for reaching out!! it’s really useful to talk to people who seem to have similar issues as you (that’s how i found out since my friend has adhd). quick disclaimer: i’m in no way qualified to say if someone has adhd and i’m still pretty new to the whole thing so take anything i say with a grain of salt,, but the description you gave basically sums up my experiences/symptoms so i’d encourage getting testing done, i’m not sure how it is for different countries (i live in canada so i don’t pay for doctor visits) but if it is an option to even get the testing and not therapy i would go for it. i can’t say much for therapy as of now since today was my intake interview with the psychiatrist i’ll be seeing but there’s lots of resources out there if you look (instagram pages, adhd blogs, websites, books, etc) i know it’s not the same as actually receiving treatment but if you can find a good source it could be helpful!!! even if it turns out you don’t have adhd (tho u probably know better than anyone else if these symptoms have been persistent over a long period of time) they can be useful techniques to help with daily functioning. i wish i had more to offer but i haven’t started any treatment programs yet but if you wanna check back in january hopefully i’ll have something useful to share??? anyway i hope this was somewhat helpful and that you can get the resources you need !!!

Tips for Managing Impulsivity
So this book on ADHD I’ve been slowly reading (see “source” at the end of the post), has some helpful suggestions for handling self-control and impulsivity. Thought I’d share what I learned.
1. Think about where impulsivity impacts you the most.
And be specific.
Not just “at work” but “I blurt out my thoughts to my boss and they think I don’t think things through.” Not just “overspending” but “I impulse-buy junk food when I’m grocery shopping, especially when I shop hungry.”
If it’s helpful, write these things down somewhere.
2. Buy yourself time to think before you react or respond.
Determine a small action you can take to give yourself a buffer, even if it’s only for a few seconds. Picking something to do can be easier than trying to do nothing. Especially for people with ADHD, it can be hard to curb the urge to do or say something in the moment.
Some ideas for buffers:
The good ol’ take-a-deep-breath-and-count-to-10.
Put your fingers on your lips for a few seconds before speaking.
Say “Hmm, let me think for a moment” or “That’s a good question” or something similar.
Paraphrase what someone said back to them before adding your own thoughts: “You’re asking me more about...” or “What I’m hearing you say is that you feel...”
Take a lap around the store before putting an impulse buy in your cart.
Leave your browser tabs open on things you want to buy for a day or two.
Perform a small hand gesture, like opening and closing your fist, tapping each finger to your thigh a few times, or slowly putting your hands in your pockets.
3. Identify situations where it’s okay to be impulsive.
Listen. We crave dopamine. We need stimulation. We can’t stop the impulsivity... impulse all the time.
Do you have a gregarious friend group that doesn’t mind being interrupted and talked over? Do you have enough disposable income that you don’t have to worry about overspending? Do you have people in your life you can send an “Okay, I just need to vent for a sec...” text to? Do you have a free day where you can (safely, temporarily) ignore your responsibilities and do whatever the hell you want?
Give yourself permission to find safe outlets for your need to be impulsive and spontaneous. It’s especially important to find those things right now, when so many of us are stuck at home.

in regards to what you pointed out a few posts ago, ngl one of my least favorite fandom things is when they make Kaminari the Har Har Stupid Joking ADHD Bi Playboy Who Is Never Serious Trope. like, he's very smart, 'worst in ___ area of a UA course' is very impressive and I don't remember if it even said that or just that he was studying with some other students, worried about his grades overall, calls himself stupid with implied insecurities about it, and didn't think he was very smart compared to the other people in the course. quirk overuse makes him loopy, incoherent, and think everything's funny. and yeah, he's a bit of a flirt and made a few perverted comments and actions that he clearly didn't think through that well. I'm pretty sure he's not ever stated to be bi in the manga because it was written by a coward, so I think people should think more about why they're associating and pairing together the idea of "hot flirty playboy who if legally able would sleep with everyone he meets" with emphasis or joke in the captions of whatever the content is on him being bi. I don't think this is inherently bad, even put together, but the execution feels kind of :/ and shallow. and I mainly just wish they'd pause to consider if there's any reason (subconscious or intentional) why one of those makes them think about the other, and at the very least lean back to see if they're blatantly making those traits centric around each other and tweak how they're showing them a little. Part of this is also because it's basically his fanon sexuality, but then they stick together "oh he's bi and everyone thinks that" and "he's made flirty or perverted comments and actions in canon at some point" and then mentally exaggerate and have this Canon Image of him as *waves hand at above* and I don't think that's happening consciously in most cases but. again. Cookiecutter Bi Party Playboy Who's Made a Date Offer to Everyone In The Building. not a flirty Person or a Playboy who is bi and flirts with more than one genders
I myself headcanon him as adhd and while the exact sexuality depends on my mood I think of/have him as bi in a lot of my content, but it's the same thing with why non adhd people see how he acts and label "adhd!" Especially about comprehension speed and derpy acting and intelligence and attention span jokes/tropes. Again, not bad in and of itself, but the specific parts of his behavior that make them think he's adhd, or that they start making jokes about or Ha Ha ADHD'ing, or that they think is why we project ADHD on him, (which they aren't necessarily wrong about, but like right in a really disrespectful look at how funny this is oh look squirrel way that's only funny when adhd people are doing it and it isn't all mocking like that) when they see other people calling him adhd, are the wrong ones, I think, and it shows in their characterization of him.
I'm not saying that any of those traits are bad in a character, but as a queer adhd girl with very high annual test scores and Gifted Kid Intelligence but extremely poor grades, focus, and brain damage (admittedly nothing like his, it was a longterm passive thing that mainly just made me have a Lot of Really Bad headaches, and closest thing it did to me was make me sluggish and emotional on bad days and also techincally have the potential kill my language bit if left untreated or the surgery messed up, which it didn't, and it won't be a problem again. but even after explaining that it wasn't cancer or any sort of tumor, and after seeing it do very little at all to affect my behavior outside of irritability and performance, because y'know, constant migraines, gone after the surgery but this was before that, Certain People I Was Vaguely Kind Of Acquaintances With started to treat my like I was a fragile glass thing going to to drop dead and revive myself speaking like a comic relief cartoon crazy person at any moment which was. patronizing.) I've since had surgery for, the way the fandom combines them into stereotypes and portrays them really just rubs me the wrong way- "Flirty Bi(tm) Playboy" "Har Har ADHD Can't Focus Or Get Things After They're Explained To Him, He's Still Confused And An Idiot" "Stupid Person With Brain Damage Who Can't Take Care Of Or Think For Themself And Acts Stupid And Funny For People To Laugh At" which tbh is super ableist even and especially when people irl do fit that description, and also reminds me of the Autistic Person Freaking Out And Being Dramatic sense of humor. And I know it's not helped by canon, because it done for comic relief and to limit his powers, but explored more I think it as a limitation could have been used way more interestingly than canon did and also call me biased but that quirk induced brain frying sounds at least as concerning as Izuku's quirk's backlash.
And it's a shame!! Because he's so much more interesting than that! Instead, the fandom gives me the Cookicutter Funny Bi ADHD Flirt Who's An Idiot and I am sad about it.
tbh it reminds me of what happened to percy jackson, esp with the ADHD Idiot Trope thing. which sucks because apparently it originated in the author making up stories around characters like his adhd and dyslexic kid inspired by Greek myths to tell him after running out of actual myths because it was his special interest and he wanted more. and then the series got kind of all over the place and the fandom processed that the adhd and dyslexic main character who does dumb things sometimes but is very combat smart and great at strategizing and leading gets bad grades and has trouble focusing and has, y'know, adhd, and made him the ADHD Idiot and erased his Gifted Kid girl friend's traits and ADHD and dyslexia into No Nonsense Calls Him an Idiot And Thinks He's Stupid And Has To Tell Him What To Do And Manage His Life For Him and honestly that just kind of sucks and it reminds me of what happened to fandom Kaminari. and now that I think of it people have jirou like that around him a lot too.
im fine with you answering this publicly if you want or have something to add but probably tag as ableism and maybe a biphobia mention content warning for people who don't have the energy to deal with thinking about those kinds of negative things rn because I kind of Went Off About It
I love this! Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts and experiences 💚(and double thank you for tag suggestions)💚
I couldn’t agree more that a lot of fandom has messed up Kami’s character, which is why I’ve kinda been posting more about him cause he’s just stuck in my head.
I think a lot of fandoms have trouble with characters like this, people have a hard time with duality in characters and fast/fun posts are easier to make if you flatten a character down.
The did it to Kami, they did it to Percy, they did it to Ron Weasley, they do it to Thor, the list goes on. If being the Smart One ™️ isn’t your thing and you can be goofy than you get pigeonholed into the idiot trope.
I feel for Kami a lot(probably because I have adhd/brain damage too)
It sucks when you’re smart but it’s not the traditional, measurable kind of smart(even if by national comparison Kami technically is).
I got terrible grades growing up, and I pretty much got the absolute lowest gpa you can get and still graduate. But absolutely no one would have known if I didn’t tell them, because I’m not dumb.
(It’s okay if you are “dumb”, I love me a head empty just vibes friend. You’re 100% valid, stil worthy of joining discussions, and should be listened to and taken seriously. This just isn’t about that tho)
I joke sometimes that I’m clever and witty but not smart, because that’s exactly what it feels like.
I have lots of thoughts and ideas that I think I articulate pretty well, I am excellent at finding the humor in things and expressing it in a way that’s funny to others too, and there is almost zero problems I can’t find a work around. And the people in my life love it, and they love to use it.
But eventually everyone in my life finds out that I’m not smart. They see the way I have to pause to Google how to calculate a tip, that I don’t know the name of all 50 states or even where to find them on a map, or I legitimately just can not spell (if you ever see a post where it looks like I used a weird word choice it’s probably because I tried 4 times and autocorrect+Google couldn’t help me and voice to text wasn’t an option)
No one ever questions my intelligence until they find out about my adhd and/or catch me struggling with it. After the mask comes off it’s like they can’t even hear me anymore, nothing I say could be true or matter because I’m now just the goofy accident prone spacy girl. My family literally calls me Spacy
And ya know what sometimes I just let people think that because it’s easier, it’s easier than explaining that I’m dyslexic and that I didn’t have a single geography/history clas until 10th grade and shocker the capital of Iowa doesn’t come up much by then. And it’s easier for me to laugh off losing my keys again than dwell on the fact that sometimes it feels like I’m losing my marbles.
And I wouldn’t be at all surprised if after this post I get a lot more “fact checkers” and push back on anything else I post.(not talking about people who want to genuinely engage,y’all are always welcome, I’m talking those people who don’t wanna look it up themselves but no longer trust me to know what I’m talking about)
Kami is a sweet brilliant boy. He’s in a nationally high ranking school, he loves the weather channel, he’s careful about his quirk that could easily hurt his friends in combat, he has a very high emotional intelligence level, he wears dorky shirts with electricity puns on them, and he pays attention to his friends and remembers a lot of little things about them.
He wants to be a hero and he takes that seriously, and the series has tried time and time again to tell y’all that smiling and laughter are an important part of that. Kami excels at this part! So what if his history grades don’t rival the top of the class, the top 5 students would struggle hard to do what Kami does.
Iida can’t relax, Momos rather shy, Todo struggles with social cues, Midoriya is canonically not funny, and jfc where to even begin with Katsuki. I’m certain they’ll all grow up to be excellent heros in their own right, but none of them are going to bring the level of joy and camaraderie that Denki can. You can’t test that into someone.
Kami also just notices people differently and has any easy way of joining in with them, he doesn’t struggle approaching Katsuki or Shinso. Sure he doesn’t hit the the nail on the head the same way Deku does but he’s the only one who has the guts and skills to try. Also he’s not that kinda friend, he’s not looking to a save these guys but pal around with them
I think Kami 100% realizes what a special case and tough nut to crack Bakugo is, I don’t think he’s just careless or too dumb realize his life’s at stake or whatever.
I think he’s purposely testing Bakugos boundaries all while trying to not be a threat to Katsukis actual ego and calling Bakugo out when he needs it in a way that not to serious. Kami knows how to be just goofy enough that he’s approachable. He’s also keyed in that the way to Bakugo is through Deku, meanwhile everyone else is stuck believing the opposite.
Kami also realized how important music is to Jiro and saw an opportunity to let her display her skills and combin the two worlds she lives, and he wasn’t afraid to get some back lash from her for it.
Like Deku Kami isn’t afraid to be uncomfortable. You really can’t teach that level of social ease, you can teach the posture and feed people a couple of lines but it’ll never hit the same. Funny approachable people have spent a lifetime learning the craft, usually out of necessity.
It’s actually what gives me the biggest adhd vibes from him, because adhd is (speculated to be) a dopamine deficiency disorder. People with adhd are constantly trying to raise their dopamine levels, and that means looking for praise and reward and nothing makes the human brain light up faster than postative human connections.
Adhd children struggle a lot with connecting with peers and often find making people laugh a fast way into people’s circles and makes it more likely people will overlook being interrupted or spaced out on.
Also adhd people are pretty much forced by their own brain structures to be genuine in all they do, low dopamine levels make it very hard to do things you don’t enjoy because there no promise of dopamine from the activity and you don’t have enough to spare, plus impulsiveness makes it really hard to not show when you do or don’t enjoy something.
I agree that Kami is also painted as overly perverted at times, he’s a little flirty but in a fun casual way but it’s not the foundation of his personality and it’s really mellowed out over the course of the series.
And while I subscribe to the bi hc from his interactions with Jiro and Shinso, we should all be very mindful that we don’t lump these characteristics together. The are separate facets of his personality that are not dependent on each other in anyway.
Kami deserves all the respect and love, I can’t wait to see our electric king again 🖤⚡️🖤

This short passage is expected to share the theme, contention, and decisions of an exploration ponder, like the content on the back front of a book. The abstract is “a concise, exhaustive rundown of the substance of [an] article” (American Psychological Association [APA], 2010, p. 25). How to write smart nursing goals for capstone project?
Be specific. Be as nitty gritty as could be expected under the circumstances. Objectives that are excessively expensive are hard, making it impossible to characterize and much harder to achieve in light of the fact that the objective isn’t sufficiently explicit to be come to.
Keep it measurable. Ensure your objectives are quantifiable. Without estimation or the like, you may question whether you have accomplished your objective or achievement. The vaguer you set the objectives and achievements, the less you will have the capacity to imagine them.
Keep it attainable. Pause for a minute to decide every one of the components related to the objective and whether you have the assets accessible to finish it. Moving in the direction of an objective that isn’t feasible is anything but a keen course.
Be realistic. Set your objective on what you trust you can do. in the event that the objective you have set isn’t sensible, decide if it merits the time and exertion that is expected to achieve it, you should keep your objective and achievements feasible.
Keep it timely. It will likewise give you a feeling of achievement when you finish an achievement or objective. A set objective and achievements are seldom practiced when you don’t hold yourself to an explicit time plan.
The Experts Sayings
Write the nursing capstone project proposal concisely. Try not to discuss the research project in detail in the proposal.
Follow the appropriate format and don’t change the order of the elements.
Add the fact-based information.
Never paraphrase any paragraph from the prior reports.
Go through the course of the nursing capstone project in detail.
The General Mistakes
Here are some possible mistakes that can affect your effort of writing the capstone paper:
No time management: You can deal with this issue by creating a schedule.
No proofreading: Read, read and read to spot the spelling errors.
Incorrect format: Follow the related samples for this purpose.
No uniqueness: The writing style, information and other points need to look quirky. Come up with the writing piece created with your personal style.
Poor layout: The overall look of your project must be appealing.

When You’re Overwhelmed with Being an Adult
Working, paying bills, making meals, managing a household, running errands, making important decisions….adulthood isn’t for the faint of heart. Responsibilities regularly pile up. And it becomes a lot to juggle and handle on a regular basis.
And there isn’t exactly a class we take that prepares us for the nitty gritty of the day to day.
In fact, many of us go off to college with little to no training about how to handle the basics—like bills, budgeting and taxes. Psychotherapist Alyson Cohen, LCSW, works with many young adults who have a hard time “adulting.” In particular, her clients struggle with money: budgeting their expenses and spending above their means.
Many of us also make adulthood needlessly harder. We set sky-high expectations and rigid rules around our responsibilities. Christina Cruz’s clients often tell her: “I have to, should or must do _______.” For instance, she worked with a mom who thought she had to stay up late to prep meals for her husband and kids because that’s what good moms do. Cruz helped her realize that she was a good mom regardless. Her family also was completely capable of making their own meals, and doing so gave her more time for herself.
Similarly, our self-worth may get wrapped up in “how hard we work, how much we do, what we have acquired, and what we have, or have not, achieved,” said Natalia van Rikxoort, MSW, a social worker, therapeutic arts facilitator and life coach who specializes in ADHD and family coaching. “As a result, we push ourselves too hard, take on too much, and feel as though we have failed when we are unable to meet the demands we have placed on ourselves.”
It doesn’t matter whether you’re straight out of college, a seasoned mom, an expert in your field or recently retired, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed with being an adult at any stage of life. Below you’ll find suggestions for navigating the emotional overwhelm, along with practical, tried-and-true tips to simplify and streamline. Because often taking small, strategic steps can significantly help to lessen our stress, make our lives run smoother and create more satisfaction.
Keep a dragon journal. Dragons are tasks or projects that feel scary, boring, tedious or difficult, said Debra Michaud, M.A., a professional organizer and ADHD coach. “If you get a feeling of dread in the pit of your stomach when you think about doing it, or if your heart tightens when you see it on your to-do list, then it is a good dragon to tackle.” Michaud suggested tackling one dragon per day, which can be one step of a bigger project.
Don’t underestimate the power of help. You don’t have to go it alone, and you don’t need to know everything on your own. Cruz, Psy.D, a life coach who specializes in perfectionism, anxiety, depression and body image, has worked with many moms who’ve hired mother’s helpers, babysitters or nannies to reduce their task load and give themselves a much-needed break. Another option is to hire a sitter so you can tackle important tasks (like taxes), Cohen said.
Cohen also mentioned attending workshops; hiring a financial planner, therapist or coach; and asking loved ones you trust for tips. What are you currently struggling with? Who can help?
“If you do not have money to enlist help in many areas, then prioritize which tasks you have the most difficult time with and decide the value of your time versus the cost of enlisting help,” she said.
Eliminate tolerations. Tolerations are “usually small things that we put off doing or ignore because they seem insignificant or unimportant in the moment,” said van Rikxoort. However, “over time they add up and start to affect our productivity and contribute to feelings of overwhelm.”
For instance, one toleration is mail: Letting mail pile up creates clutter, and means you’ll lose important papers and forget to pay your bills. Over time a nuisance becomes a big problem. Other tolerations include piles of laundry and unfinished household chores and projects.
Sometimes we think we’re too busy to tackle these tasks on a regular basis—but we usually end up expending more energy and time in the long run. As van Rikxoort said, it’s much easier to sort through a day’s worth of mail than a month’s worth. Plus, when we eliminate tolerations, we can refocus our energy on more meaningful activities, she said.
Start detaching your self-worth from your successes. Cruz has her clients do this exercise: She asks them to tell her about their achievements, followed by the traits that underlie them. Clients might say hard work, dedication, strength or standing up for themselves. “I point out to my clients, if their accomplishment was taken away from them, their traits and qualities would not be less true.”
Create routines. According to Michaud, routines minimize decision-making. “Without routines, you must expend a lot of mental energy deciding, moment by moment, how to spend your time. This opens the door for avoidance, procrastination, and wasting time on ‘pseudo-productive tasks’—tasks that feel productive but that are very low priority.”
If you don’t have them yet, start with creating morning and bedtime routines, which supports restorative sleep. (Many of Michaud’s clients go to bed later so they can work, but this only backfires the next day when their focus and energy nosedives.) You also might have a routine where you tackle one or two dragons first thing at work.
Take a Kaizen approach. “We often overwhelm ourselves trying to take too big a bite at one time,” Michaud said. Kaizen is the Japanese word for “improvement,” which is all about taking tiny steps. Michaud shared these examples: You want to get more sleep, so you start going to bed 5 minutes earlier, and keep decreasing your time by 5-minute increments. Instead of finishing an organizing project in one day, you set a timer for 15 minutes. To tackle a task you’ve been avoiding for a while, you set a timer for just 1 minute.
Refocus. When you’re feeling overwhelmed, you’re probably frustrated, anxious, confused and sad. Van Rikxoort stressed the importance of pausing, breathing and naming what you’re feeling. “When you do this, you bring the problem-solving centers of your brain back online and become able to navigate the situation more effectively.” She suggested asking ourselves: “What is my priority right now? What am I trying to accomplish?”
Get some space. Cruz underscored the importance of creating space between your emotional reactions and the problem. This gives you time to choose how you’re going to respond, look at the bigger picture and consider an alternative perspective, she said. Small changes also are powerful in creating this space.
For instance, one of Cruz’s clients was overwhelmed with work and home life. Instead of showering at night, she started showering in the morning to clear her mind. She also started listening to inspiring speeches while getting ready. “She still had the same responsibilities waiting for her but her ability to change how she approached her roles improved her mood and made her more productive.”
Cohen suggested listening to guided meditations or using an app like Calm.
Being an adult is hard. It’s rare that we’re prepared for all the responsibilities. We also make it harder by setting unrealistic, rigid expectations. “Be kind to yourself and remember that you are a worthy human being with unique talents, strengths, and skills regardless of how clean your house is or how much money you make,” said van Rikxoort.

Differentiating and Anticipating Students Needs
Introduction
Teachers normally find themselves in situations where they are teaching students with a range of abilities and learning styles.  Some of these students may even possess one or more learning disabilities.  Furthermore, some students may come into a classroom at the beginning of a unit with full knowledge of the instructional topic, while others may struggle to comprehend the material.  This is why it is important to differentiate instruction in order to reach all students within a classroom.  Differentiating instruction can take on many forms.  I will outline several techniques  that I plan on using in my future classroom.
I am teaching KG3 in Bolivia. It is hard to notice some  learning disability for the students at this age, so I observed some older classes. Each one of them contains students of varying English abilities.  This means that there were students who are really getting it, and others who are struggling to understand .  On top of this, there are a few students who are likely ADHD, and others who have various emotional disabilities.
ADHD
HADD Ireland (2013), recommends that teachers assess their students with ADD in order to determine whether the lessons should be differentiated at the content, process or product stage.  The few students who I have observed who have ADHD are actually very intelligent.  They have no problem completing their work when they are feeling up to it.  I therefore don’t think that it is necessary to differentiate at the content level for these particular students.  It may be necessary to do for others.  I feel that the most effective areas to differentiate in are at the process stage and the product stage.
The two students who I have in mind are actually very engaged during visual presentations.  It is therefore important to present information visually (video and pictures), audibly and in written form.  This ensures a greater opportunity for retention and understanding among the various learners.  The visual aspect is especially important for the students with ADHD as has been suggested by the North Dakota Education Department (2014).  Another technique that I have found to engage these students more during the process stage is to have them assist in teaching.  They can  come up to the front and help the teacher to complete examples in front of the class.
In the product stage of learning, differentiating should be by allowing the students to choose between a few different assignment choices. For example, provide the opportunity to complete written assignments, speaking assignments, and also the option to complete their assignments in a visual form that they must talk about in front of the class.  I am almost certain that the two students I have in mind who have ADHD will choose the visual assignments.
Emotional Disabilities
I am thinking of a particular student who has extreme anxiety. He is extremely timid in class, and often pulls out his hair. The Ontario Teachers’ Federation (2013), recommends that teachers should determine what it is that triggers a student’s anxiety so that they can reduce it’s frequency.  I have noticed that the student in question tends to become very anxious when he is corrected in front of the other students.  The differentiation for him in the product stage, not by expecting less of him, but by allowing him to make mistakes and never making a big deal about the mistakes that he does make. Correct his errors quietly and quickly.
The differentiation for this student at the process stage.  The Ontario Teachers’ Federation (2013), recommends that teachers should always positively reinforce efforts and improvements when dealing with highly anxious students. There are many questions that the above mentioned student is able to answer easily.  He can be asked questions that he will be able to answer, and commend him when he does so.  His confidence is gradually increasing.
Plan for Modification through Formative Assessment
Some students are struggling through the use of formative assessment, I plan on utilizing several techniques to bring them up to speed.  For students at the higher end of the readiness continuum, I plan on allowing them to go ahead with their work in some situations.  This will free up time, and allow me to address those students who are struggling.
Weselby, C. (2014), suggests that differentiating instruction is effective for high-ability students, and not only those with mild to severe disabilities.  Keeping this in mind, another technique that I plan on using is utilizing the students who have a good understanding of the material by having them teach those that are finding it more difficult.  This could involve using activities like think-pair-share, or even having the students who have a higher level of understanding check and explain the homework of others.  This allows them to practice their skills while aiding the others in understanding.  This enables both sets of students to gain a greater understanding of the material since we learn more from teaching others and when collaborating.
Other Resources
Assistant Teacher –  In the event that a large group of students are having difficulties, while a large group are not, the assistant teacher can assist those who are having difficulties with translations while the other teacher works with the group of students who have a higher level of understanding.  This can enable those with some mastery to extend on their learning, while enabling those with a lower level of understanding to learn key terms and phrases.
Google Translate – For students who are having difficulties with how they would like to express themselves, or with understanding a few key words, the teacher can allow them to use Google translate at times.  This tool is useful for students at both ends of the readiness continuum.  It enables students at the low level to learn new terms related to the material, and allows those with mastery to extend on learning.
Other students –  Students can help others.  Since they speak the same language, they are able to explain things even better than the teacher to those that are struggling.  This also gives the student who is doing the explaining a better understanding of the material, since we learn more when we teach others.  This technique also promotes valuable 21st century skills like collaboration.

Top 5 Ways To Improve Your Mental Wellness
Top 5 Ways To Improve Your Mental Wellness Posted on: Thursday, July 16th 2015 at 11:45 am Posted By: Dr. John Dempster . This article is copyrighted by GreenMedInfo LLC, 2015 Visit our Re-post guidelines Originally published on The Dempster Clinic . Traditionally, many conditions labeled under the umbrella of 'mental illness' were summed up solely as genetic or biochemical imbalances. Modern advances in psychiatric medicine have found causation to be more and more integrated to lifestyle and environmental factors, often finding the fundamental cause to be multi-factorial. Whether we acknowledge it or not, healthcare as we know it is in the midst of radical change. More and more patients are demanding answers to the root cause(s) of their symptoms, not wanting merely a suppressive 'band-aid' approach. One major area of medicine that has patients, doctors and researchers scrambling for more answers is in the field of psychiatry. Research and awareness of psychiatric conditions have been making great strides as of late, but it has not always been the case. In fact for decades mental health conditions were marginalized to the medical sidelines without gaining much mainstream attention such as many other keynote health conditions facing us globally such as; cancer, heart disease, diabetes, etc. Common mental health conditions diagnosed globally are; anxiety , addiction, eating disorders, depression , ADD/ADHD spectrum, bipolar, insomnia, schizophrenia , to name a few. According to the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) 25% of North Americans suffer from a diagnosable mental condition. Just two years ago, Marcia Angell, former editor-in-chief of the New England Journal of Medicine, discussed how a shocking 46 percent of Americans fit a diagnosis for one form of mental illness or another(1). In fact, according to a recent study published in The Lancet(2), mental disorders and substance abuse combined were the leading cause of non-fatal illness worldwide in 2010, contributing nearly 23 percent of the total global disease burden! Data for the study was obtained from the 2010 Global Burden of Diseases, Injuries, and Risk Factors Study(3), which include data from 187 countries. There are multiple factors that impact our health on a daily basis, and this couldn't be any truer when discussing mental health. Cutting-edge practitioners like Dr's. Kelly Brogan , Jonathan Prousky, David Perlmutter , etc. are breaking new ground and leading the charge suggesting that the conventional model psychiatric health care needs to be re-evaluated. Prescribing pharmaceuticals as a first line therapy needs to be re-addressed due to growing concerns of the potentially harmful and dependency forming nature of many psychotropic medications available today. Recent advances in clinical research in the field of mental health are drawing strong connections to; family and community, diet & nutrition, environmental toxicity, faith, stress management, etc. as fundamental factors for optimal mental health. This is a fascinating and exciting time for mental health as more efforts are being put into establishing a route cause and identifying triggers. With this new frontier of treatment for mental disorders continuing to evolve and emerge, so is a re-vitalized hope for those dealing with mental illness. Below are my Top 5 Ways To Improve Your Mental Health and Wellness: 1. Physical Activity For many of you following my articles for some time, this critical factor is often on repeat. It has to be folks, if we don't move it – we lose it. It's that simple. This goes for maintaining and improving mental health as much (if not more) as keeping us in proper physical shape. We need to be active DAILY . No, this does not mean you have to hit the gym everyday, but it does mean participating in some intentional physical activity. Sorry, window-shopping or doesn't count! Regular physical activity helps; keep inflammation down, reduce stress, improve blood flow and circulation to our brain, balance blood sugar levels, aid in detoxification processes – all of which are critical factors for optimal mental health. 2. Adequate Sleep An area that is often overlooked and taken for granted, sleep is how we rest, repair, and re-group. Our entire body is ostensibly under attack everyday – and like after any battle or competitive event, proper rest is required . Without adequate quality of sleep studies show that our risk of chronic illness increases exponentially. This of course includes mental conditions. Like most things in life, too much sleep can be detrimental! So what is the magic number of sleep per night? Studies consistently show that 7 hours of restful sleep per night is the optimal number required for optimal health. 3.  Stress Management As we evolved, our stress response saved our lives by enabling us to run from predators or hunt down prey. But today, we are turning on the same "life-saving" reaction to cope with everyday stressors such as; rising gas prices, public speaking, bad bosses, traffic jams, etc. – and we have a hard time turning it off. Meditation or yoga can help immensely, even deep breathing exercises (which you can take with you everywhere). Sometimes all you need to do is get outside for a walk. But in addition to that, I also recommend using a solid support community composed of friends, family and, if necessary, professional counselors. All of the above can help provide you with the tools to work through your emotional stress. 4. Ditch Sugar Food is medicine. However, certain food can also be poison. One of the key predictors of all chronic disease is chronic inflammation, which is directly associated with poor mental health. Sugar consumption is a primary driver of chronic inflammation in your body, so consuming excessive amounts of sugar can truly set off an avalanche of negative health events – both mental and physical. Avoiding refined sugars effectively requires more than merely not eating desert or adding sugar to your coffee – be sure to look at labels of any packaged food and/or meals. Eating whole fruit is ok! 5. Gut-brain connection Dr. Natash Campbell-McBride, an MD with a postgraduate degree in neurology, states that toxicity in our gut can flow throughout our body and into our brain, where it can cause symptoms of autism , ADHD, depression, schizophrenia and a whole host of other mental disorders. This being said, nourishing your gut flora (gut bacteria) is critical to help reduce gut toxicity, improving absorption of nutrients, ultimately helpful in re-establishing optimal mental health. The impact of our microflora on brain function was recently reconfirmed by UCLA researchers, finding that beneficial bacteria altered brain function in the participants. Etc. − ⚑ tracychess • 2 years ago One of the challenges not yet addressed by the field of medicine, is to draw distinctions between a. brain health, the health of the physical Brian, and b. mental health - the health of how the mind works to interpret what it senses, which is dependant on the status and interactions of sensory systems, nervous systems, and brain components like the frontal lobes, the brain stem, etc., and c. Spirit health - the health of the person's spirit, are they depressed, alert, overly sensitive, manic, forgiving, aggressive, kind, etc. Modern medicine generally ignores spirit health entirely, in fear of becoming associated with spirituality, a small specific subset of spirit healthiness. d. Community health - The health of our communities and our interactions with our communities. Medicine typically lumps all of these health concepts into a single category : mental health, by which they actually mean to say 'mental illness'. Then they proceed to treat all mental illness problems with solutions for the first layer, brain health, using physical treatments - chemicals. This can even lead to totally ridiculous 'medicines' designed to treat the brains of people who have different perspectives and different views of reality. As a result we might lock up a heretic, who is later found to have been right all along. Of course today we are more likely to lock them up with chemicals than with prison bars, creating profits instead of expenses. The most effective solutions to mental problems come from first identifying the layer, brain, mind, spirit, or community. The second step is to identify the cause. It may be necessary to do these steps together and cross check. Of course there are also grey areas between each of the layers, and there are possible illnesses that cross or involve multiple layers. A person with a large mole on their face might develop specific mental attitudes or crutches for their community interactions, that lead to poor self image, poor spirits, and depression. A drug might 'fix' the depression temporarily, but the real solution, if it can be found, is much more complex. As a result, the patient is diagnosed with 'incurable depression', a 'mental illness' that is, in current medical theory, well studied and we'll understood. It's too easy to latch onto a cause in the brain are, because we have medicines for that. The use of medicines also leads to the easy, although often wrong technique of 'try this medicine, and see how it works'. Our perception of how it worked is skewed because we didn't take the time to understand the problem. To your health, Tracy see more − ⚑ bachcole > tracychess • 2 years ago Hopefully you mentioned in that long post that the physical and the mental interact both ways and are not mutually exclusive but that there is no compensation for a lousy diet. − ⚑ tracychess > bachcole • 2 years ago The interactions are more complex than 'both ways'. The hierarchy of healthicine begins with genetics and nutrition (diet) and proceeds through cells, tissues, organs, bodily systems, body, mind, spirit, and community. Each of the layers affects all other layers. Diet affects every layer. Every layer affects diet. Yes, "there is no compensation for a lousy diet", but a lousy diet can result from poor nervous system and brain healthiness, from poor mental healthiness, from poor spiritual healthiness, or even from poor community healthiness. Mental illness can arise from unhealthiness anywhere in the hierarchy. It can arise from poor diet, that arises from poor mental health. Mental illness is not 'one thing'. A patient can be depressed. Or manic. Or manic depressive. Or just slow. Or juiced. Or delusional. And many more. Or any combination. Each of these can be caused by diet. Each of them can cause dietary changes, dietary excesses, dietary deficiencies. Mental illness is currently defined by symptoms, not by cause, nor by where it resides (brain, mind, spirit, community). As this post says, we need to understand the cause. But we cannot understand the cause, if we assume that every mental illness is in 'the brain'. The mind can cause mental illness. There are may cases where this has proven to be the case. The loss of spirit healthiness can cause mental illness. And poor community healthiness - in the patient - or in the community - can result in mental illness. It's complicated. Trying to simplify it too much might be a mental error. Consistently trying to simplify it too much, could be a 'mental illness' in our medical systems. − ⚑ Down to Earth Thinking > bachcole • 2 years ago This article touches on some good points. I would add that most maladies, physical or mental are within our own capacity to resolve or heal. The chemical fixes from either MDs or Psychs are a horrid travesty on many people for many reasons. There is a much better way via very simple methods to heal one self. I have done it many times and for very serious issues for my self and many others. The simple truth is that our body , mind, soul, spirit are totally interconnected. and the answers to every question and or malady are all within your grasp if you simply go inside yourself in total honesty and seek the truth of many matters. Jesus said he would meet you in the secret place. Buddha and Krishna said very similar things and all were messengers. We all have "Inner Powers" we can tap into. We just need to know how and it is rather easily done. That is what I teach. I had a life threatening accident in late 2006. I broke off the top of my scapula and my right arm popped out of the socket and completely tore all of the connective tissue severely. I also rupture my spleen , broke two ribs and collar bone and fractured my skull. So my brain swelled up and I had a 105 + temp for over a week and in delirium, with goo leaking out of my ears from my brain swelling up. I was literally crippled for 5 years and I healed myself by simply going inside , prayer and lots of meditation and reading many books on the subject of healing one self. This was not the first time I had done this, but for sure the most serious for me. I am now more healthy and stronger than I was in RVN when I was 20 years old I am now 67. I completely believe anybody can do the same thing with the right direction and answers. It all starts by realizing the many illusions we all live under ! they are many and in every event and matter. Thank you for the tips Once upon a time there was a girl who really loved sewing and dogs it was me the end hearts shirt . I could relate to quite a bit of your story too like running out of friends to annoy and shutting everything out, going to the doctor only to be told depression and anxiety can be behind my ADHD symptoms even though I’ve had those same symptoms before I ever became depressed or anxious. Even right now I’m at a job which I started about 4 months ago and I’m already struggling to finish my tasks because I can’t focus on them anymore, something which wasn’t an issue the first 3 months. I’m definitely going to check out the books you mentioned. Anyway, I’m glad to hear you’re doing good! Hearing the success story of someone who shares the same struggles as you is always a motivation boost, so thank you for sharing!.
