January

My year truly started with a bang. I published the first chapter of Hic sunt dracones on January 16th, and was immediately blown away by the wave of positive feedback. I was still very new to the fandom, had just gotten back into writing after a 15yr break, and had never dreamed of this sort of reaction. I didn't know it then, of course, but HSD would go on to become my fic of the year and probably the one I'm best known for. 🐉❤️

February

Didn’t publish anything new, but continued working on my WIPs and signed up for the @steddiebang

March

Finished Someone who cares and got a bunch of lovely comments. I had been writing it since October 2022, publishing it since early December. The first-ever fic I finished, the first I ever shared publicly, the one that rekindled my passion for writing, and still one I'm immensely proud of. ���❤️

Started working on my BB fic (You got me) in the palm of your hand 

April

Published See you in a crown, which got over 700 hits in the first 24 hours. Feral bathroom mirror sex with added tiara really seemed to do it for a lot of ppl. 🤣💕

May

Didn’t publish anything new, but was hella busy with my WIPs. 

June

Published Someone like you, a bonus chapter to Someone who cares. 

Also trembled my way through the BB claims weekend and ended up with not one, but two lovely artists, @xgumiho and @peachypurr. 💕

July

Finished Hic sunt dracones (on the day of the big AO3 blackout no less), cried over the lovely comments and the fucking FANART

Wrote my first microfic for the @steddiemicrofic challenge, found it sooo hard. 🤣

Started writing Just add water and Possession 

August

Published Just add water, which was such a feel-good fic for me. I loved writing it, it always put me in a good mood. 🧜‍♂️❤️

5. Do you respond to comments? I had a bleak period from about 2019-2022 where I was in a black hole of depression and creativity where I wrote nothing and felt a deep shame every time I got a comment on AO3, so there are people I have never responded to, but otherwise I'm adamant about replying to EVERYONE

6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending? Hmm. It could be Grief, a fic about Arcann observing the bounty hunter performing funeral rites for her dead husband. It might also be A Piercing Little Star, which I wrote for the DA Big Bang in 2013 about Leliana and Warden Bethany. And Ten Years Gone, about a very minor NPC couple from DA2, has a bleak ending

7. What is the fic you wrote with the happiest ending? I'll be honest, it's Keep Telling Me To Breathe, my Durgetash fic. Purely self indulgent ending there.

8. Do you get hate on fics? Not in a long time, but it used to happen more frequently on Deviant Art and on anonymous kink memes. People were more free about being assholes on LJ because they could do it anonymously. A few on AO3 but again, it's been awhile.

9. Do you write smut? Do I write anything BUT smut lmfao. I mean, yes I do, but I love writing smut, so...

10. Craziest crossover? I'm not much of a crossover gal, the closest I've got at the moment would be some multi-Hawke adventures that I wrote back in my DA2 days where one of my Hawkes was running around in universe with a friend's Hawke

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen? Touch wood but no, not to the best of my knowledge

12. Have you ever had a fic translated? Yes! I've had multiple of my Dragon Age fics translated into Russian

13. Have you ever cowritten a fic before? My co-conspirator @sithrightsactivist will confirm yes, and I'm basically a co-writer with @angelicfangirl on her Calli/Arcann (Swtor) fic

14. All time favourite ship? I don't know if I have one? Hnngh. I guess Ona'la/Thexan because he's essentially my OC at this point in time. I can't read other Thexan fics because I'm like, no, that's wrong, he's supposed to be married to Ona'la. And Elissa/Justice makes me feel a lot of very big emotions because I made her to be a garbage person, an outlet for a lot of my own ugly feelings and self worth issues, and yet someone actually fell in love with her and found her worth cherishing as she was and that stunned me. And Durge/Gortash, I know what I like

15. What's a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will? Sigh. It's probably my Stardew Valley fic. Or, no matter how many times I try, my Raina Temple/Shara Jenn||Watcher Two fic (SWTOR).

16. What are your writing strengths? I write GREAT smut. And I do phenomenal worldbuilding

17. What are your writing weaknesses? I don't know when to shut up. I can't write short fic to save my life. I don't actually know how people write such tight, careful fics in such a small amount of words

18. Thoughts on dialogue in another language? I did it more when I was younger and thought I was being very clever but I know enough now that I know better than to try and butcher other languages like that. I know it reads as clumsy at best to native speakers so I try to avoid it. Unless it's fictional, and then I go ham.

19. First fandom you wrote in? First? Very first? I probably wrote stories about being April O'Neill with the TMNT. I wrote about being batgirl when I was like 8. Otherwise I think it was the Wayfarer Redemption Cycle by Sara Douglass or The Belgariad by David Eddings as a teen

20. Favourite fic you've written? HOW CAN I JUST CHOOSE ONE???? Okay well I'm the most proud of Keep Telling Me To Breathe (BG3) and An Empire's Ransom (SWTOR) changed the trajectory of my life for the better. Also? I'm the only person who's written Justice romance fic, and yes, I do mean Awakenings Justice and not "inside Anders' pretty body" DA2 Justice, so I'll own that

Ooooo these are great questions!!!!

1. You know, I was really into Tiger and Bunny at one point and I did write fic for it on Livejournal 🤣 I did write a small thing for it when Season 2 Part 1 premiered in 2022, and I'm pretty sure once I get around to finishing Part 2 of Season 2, I'll feel some new inspo. So we shall see if that happens!

2. This is always such a hard question for me because I'm always like "no, I will accomplish my goals or die trying!" But I think compartmentalizing is key. Being kind to myself from the onset by setting one or two goals that I know are achievable, like finishing my big bang, helps put me in a good mindset for the more ambitious stuff, like trying to outdo my 200k word count from 2023. But also, having a good mope day with instant ramen and a good show to binge helps too 😄

When Taehyung’s gaze landed on you, he nearly choked on his martini. The drink - his third of the night - was in clear violation of the personal rule he usually adhered to of having no more than two drinks while at any Big Hit-sponsored events. While his tolerance had improved significantly over the years, he still never wanted to take any chances, knowing how quickly a light buzz can morph into much more if you aren’t careful. Being that one inebriated idiot in a room full of mostly sober people was never a good look, but it was far worse when some of those people were your bosses or, if you were really having a bad day, members of the media.

And yet, there he was, well on his way to legitimate drunkenness.

You must have arrived recently because there was absolutely no way he wouldn’t have spotted you sooner. Your dress was bright red, the same exact shade of red as a stop sign, he couldn’t help but notice. It was form fitting, falling just above the knee, with a sweetheart neckline and halter tie strap. You’d paired it with matching red stilettos and a few simple pieces of silver jewelry. Your hair was up in one of those perfectly messy buns, your lips painted scarlet. 

You and the other girls from Red Velvet were on the far side of the room in the middle of a conversation with the guys from TXT. You appeared to be telling some sort of story, having apparently just said something hilarious given the way the guys all threw their heads back in laughter. You were smiling back at them, looking confident and relaxed, elegant yet sexy, truly and utterly stunning.

And, just like that he was annoyed. 

You would dress like that tonight, wearing something so eye-catching that it made it virtually impossible for him to not let his gaze linger on your figure every time he stopped staring into the bottom of his glass. You would act so boldly, waltzing in here like you owned the place, talking and laughing with his friends while he sulked alone in the corner. You would be completely unaffected by his presence, that is, if you even noticed he was there.

Watching with narrowed eyes as you leaned in to whisper something into Yeonjun’s ear, his grip on the glass in his hand tightened. You were the reason why he’d broken his two-drink rule within an hour of arriving at the party. In fact, you were the reason why he’d been drinking more and sleeping less and losing his grip entirely these last few months. Since the moment Bang PD told them of the acquisition, he’d been living in a constant state of low-level, but ever-growing anxiety. 

He had long ago locked you in a box and thrown away the key, taking all that you once were and never would be and erasing it from his waking mind. You were meant to stay in there forever, but now here you were, crashing back into his life and threatening to ruin everything. Just looking at you was stirring up memories and feelings he hadn’t the slightest clue how to deal with, ones that were still sharp and terrible as ever, even after all this time.

As he took another recklessly large gulp of his drink, he seriously considered making a break for it through the emergency exit behind him. Clearly the two of you would cross paths sooner or later now that you worked for the same company, but he wanted to delay that reunion for as long as humanly possible. Having not had a legitimate conversation with you in almost a decade, he had absolutely no idea what he was going to say to you. 

Despite the fact that you were both K-pop idols, and therefore members of a rather small circle, the two of you had done a remarkable job of avoiding one another over the last few years. Belonging to different management companies had certainly helped in that regard, as did the fact that you didn’t share any mutual friends. Although BTS and Red Velvet often attended the same award shows, there were usually so many people there that you didn’t run into each other. On the rare occasions when your groups had been forced to interact on stage or on the red carpet, the two of you had donned your most convincing smiles and pretended to be friendly, casual acquaintances. 

The only truly meaningful correspondence you’d had since high school was three years ago when his grandmother died and you sent your condolences in a handwritten letter. It had taken him two days to build up the courage to open it. The instant he started reading, he broke down. There on the page before him, in the same neat handwriting that used to appear on folded notes tucked into his backpack, were the most heartfelt, sorrowful words. 

You had met both his grandparents many times when you came with him to visit their farm in Daegu, but you’d always had a special relationship with his grandmother. Having never met either of your own, you said that she filled the hole in your heart by showering you with love and affection as if you were one of her own grandchildren. From the scattered blotches of smeared ink he could tell that you’d cried while writing the letter which absolutely shattered him. He hated it when you cried, especially when he wasn’t there to comfort you. 

The letter he wrote in response was five pages long. Into it, he poured his entire soul, telling you how happy he was to hear from you and how much it meant to him that you’d remembered his grandmother. He told you that she always loved you and that she asked about you every single time he called to talk to her, even after you’d stopped speaking to one another. He recounted some of your fondest memories from the farm like that time you got stung by a bee on the tip of your nose and looked like Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer. 

He asked about your family, wondering if they still lived in Jeonju and if you were able to see them often. He asked how you’d liked living in New York City and mentioned how impressed he was with your English. He congratulated you on joining Red Velvet, confessing that he’d been following your career closely for the past year and was so proud of how seamlessly you’d filled the role of main vocalist. 

And, he told you that he missed you. He told you he missed you so much that it hurt and that he thought about you every single day. He apologized again for the awful things he said to you that fateful day all those years ago, telling you he truly didn’t mean any of it and that he was just sad and scared because you were going to be so far away from him for so long. He said he wished more than anything that you could be a part of his life again. He left his phone number and all but begged you to contact him before signing the letter, ‘Love Tae’.

But, you never did. 

You never wrote back. You never texted. You never called.

Deep down, he had been holding out hope that you would come back to him one day, but your silence made him realize that was nothing more than wishful thinking. You had written out of respect for his grandmother, nothing more. You had moved on and carved out a new life for yourself, one in which he did not have a place. 

You were no longer his best friend. You were no longer his princess. You were no longer his anything.

Fic Wrap up for 2022

OMG where did the year go? I achieved none of my goals I wrote down last year at this time. However, it saves me of making a new post, because they are the same for this year. Finish my WIPs!!! LOL

This year I wrote about ~210K. 193K posted (4 fics). The other amount is for those WIPs. LOL

Here's the list and indulgent commenting of the fics I posted in 2022:

Every Cottage Has a Story (5.5K) This was written for Salt & Pepper Fest 2022. It's Harry/Ginny/Draco. It's written from an adult James' POV when he discovers Draco isn't just a border at his parent's cottage. It's rated T and is so much fun!

Eight Days a Week (122K) This fic I wrote as a chapter fic. It had been years since I did this type of release. It's Drarry but M/F as Draco is trans-fem in this story. It covers the two years of her transition. I didn't want to make it that she took a potion and that was it. I thought it was important for their relationship to go through the physical and psychological process in more detail. Friends to Lovers. Harry is pansexual or rather he discovers he is :). The story took me five months to write and I'm not sure I've ever put so much of my heart and soul into one of my fics since Double Edged Sword. It is a Drarry love story and it is a positive transitioning story. And it's about those growing up years where big decisions have to be made. I had some very lovely and loyal commenters, which got me through to the end. I'm so grateful to them. However, I'll be very honest, I was disappointed in the overall reception of this fic. I know the saying is "write for yourself", but there was definitely a sting to this one. Aulophobia and @m0srael were amazing in their help with this fic. Rated E

25 Holiday Scenes for Eight Days a Week (16.3K) I didn't expect a big response for this one, but I still had this story and characters in my head for months after completing it. So, I wrote for me this year for @slythindor100 25 Days of Draco and Harry. LOL It was a lot of fun! And, I thank the faithful commenters. Rated G

The Roommate (42.7K) I wrote this as a gift fic for @sorrybutblog for the @hd-erised 2022 fest. OMG I had troubles with this one. I wanted to write a romcom but I think I'm unable to do such a thing, so a bit of serious plot forced it's way in. Here's the summary: After one year in Azkaban and two years of home arrest, Draco is going off to college. Myrrdin College is Oxford’s magical college, where one Harry Potter is currently attending. Both are going for their teaching certificates with Draco specialising in Potions and Harry in Defence Against the Dark Arts. The Headmistress has insisted all incoming professors must be degreed. However, the Board of Governors insist that Draco also must live in a Muggle house with limited allowance and take Muggle elective courses before he can become Hogwarts' new Potions Professor. Harry is coerced by others into helping Draco Malfoy survive in the Muggle world. My favorite comment on this was equating the fic to a warm blanket! LOL. It is cottage-core. Harry's goal is to make Draco Malfoy fall in love with the Muggle world...he might have achieved it a little too well. :) It's rated M. I so tried for the E but it just didn't fit the story.

As the year is ending, I am considering what writing projects I will try to complete next year. Will 2023 be the year I finish my WIPs? Will it at least be the year I let go of WIPs I don't care about? We'll see.

Okay, this is definitely going to be an undercount, because of stuff that hasn't seen the light of day, but: AO3 says my word count for the year so far is 81,366, and I've written 26,565 words of my novel-in-progress this year, and I don't think AO3 was counting my Big Bang fic in the 81k, and my Big Bang fic is 12,069, so--wait. I just did the math and that is exactly 120,000. That number is too round. What.

15. something you learned this year

Oh gosh. I feel like I've learned a lot in recent months, but I also have no idea what time is anymore. I'll go with this: fandom friends are real friends and asking people to Skype is a good idea! (Hi!)

19. any new fics to start next year

I'm going to try to keep focusing on the novel, honestly! When I'm deep in original fiction land, I try to mostly write really short fics (like under 3k) and only when I can't help it. Basically, I'll listen to plot bunnies if they're short and easy to deal with, particularly if dealing with them is necessary to keep them from bothering me, but I'll try to put my real creative energy into my novel.

That said, I am planning on doing FTH again in 2022, AND I'm in the OMGCP Big Bang, the OMGCP holiday fic exchange, and the Murderbot New Year's Gift Exchange (and I just checked and that posts on January 1, so technically that's how I'll be starting the year, fic-wise!). So you've got three fics from me to look forward to in the next few weeks, and I'll definitely write at least some in 2022.

24. favorite fic you read this year

"No Matter How Small." Hands down. @weneedtotalkaboutfic is a truly unbelievable writer on every level. They can craft sentences that make my writerly heart swoon and that make me think of something differently than I've ever thought of it before. Their characters feel so real and are so good at loving each other. Their plots feel logical even when the premise kind of isn't (like with the wedding cake fic). I literally took an afternoon off last spring to binge "No Matter How Small," because I'd started reading it for the first time the previous night and had needed to go to bed before finishing it. Y'all, Lau is the real deal.

Anyway, I'll get on posting fics later, but for now here's the three fics I have actually gotten around to posting to ao3:

We're gonna start off with Like Peter Pan. It's based on an au where Jason lost his shadow after he came back from the dead and took a bath in mtn dew. It's very short and it's focused on Jason and Lian

Coming in second is the two chapter fic You're Just Some Guy in a Bat Costume? that features Hal Jordan as he gets to know a different side of Bruce and his family. (I only have the first chapter of this one up rn, but I'm actively working on the second one)

And last but not least, They Can Wait which is the fic I wrote for the 2022 Batfam Big Bang. This one is fluff with a young Dick and Bruce. This one's probably my favorite of all my fics, including my drafts and the ones I posted in my ff.net days
