taken from his clan after being tainted by darkspawn after his best friend interacted with the eluvian, somael was taken unwillingly from his clan and forced to become a grey warden, all the while getting more and more bitter and resentful in not being allowed to know where tamlen went. he despises all humans other than cousland and alistair, cousland because they were patient and non intrusive with him, and alistair because he’s not entirely a shem, and because his witty jokes and making the best of a bad situation help to alleviate his anger. he’s alright around sten, as he doesnt ask much questions, and zevran is a light nuisance but otherwise alright. he hates morrigan for trying to tell him about elvhen culture, and is uncomfortable around leliana and wynne. oghren and shale are neither hate or like, just neutral.

fast forward some months into using those treaties to get the armies together, and everyone is attacked at camp by darkspawn, but this is different. strange. somethings familiar about this. somael turns, and spots a lone shriek, looking vastly different from the rest. less tainted, more humanoid. more elvhen. he approaches them slowly, realization dawning on him that this is his lethallin, his tamlen. somael makes to rush towards them, to hold them in a firm embrace, but tamlen moves back quickly, crying out for somael not to touch him. he’s tainted, but not like somael; deeper, twisted, gnarled compared to what somael has. somael knows whats going to happen; tears are already pricking his eyes as he listens to the other plead for mercy. no one makes to interfere; this has to be carried out by somael. after begging tamlen not to make him do this, the warden stabs his lethallin, holding his dying body as they both collapse on the floor. somael can’t stop crying, even after tamlen is long since dead. warden cousland cautiously approaches him, and after some gentle words, he pries somael from the corpse and guides him back to their tents. they burn tamlens corpse, as there is no time to do a proper funeral for him during the blight. somael’s grief causes the grey to streak his hair, and he becomes more subdued and less eager to start fights; he’s more quiet, more unwilling to talk to anyone anymore. he can only bring himself to follow the orders given to him by cousland and others. depression wracks his body and mind, making him even more miserable than when first starting this journey.

eventually, he recovers. it takes time, and many nights spent crying and showing a weaker side his companions had never truly seen from him. his anger was normal to them, but the pure grief and sadness somael expressed was unnatural and uncanny. spending nights in the comforting embrace of his friends helped him to overcome the grief of what little he had left from his clan to hope for. now, all they had to do was kill the arch demon so he could go home.

hes fucking mad and bitter and extremely tempermental but he has small moments of weakness where he just breaks down and cries because he doesn’t wanna be there, he wants to be with his clan and his friends. he was destroyed when he found out tamlen died. he despises morrigan and refuses to speak with her. he argues a lot with leliana, and tends to get into fights with any human that looks at him funny. hes fond of speaking with sten in private and respects him. hes uncomfortable around zevran, and allows himself to break down when with alistair alone, because he can relate to him and alistair doesnt talk down at him. he loves dog. come inquisition, hes a bit more toned down, but still very openly talks aggressively at others. sdfkjsag gay elf
