Solvent Extraction Plant – PEMAC Projects
A Solvent Extraction Plant is a key component of the edible oil industry, utilizing specialized machinery to extract oils from seeds and other raw materials. Solvent extraction machineries are essential industrial equipment designed to efficiently extract oils and valuable compounds. The oil-rich miscella is then processed in an Oil Refinery Plant, where it undergoes degumming, neutralization, and other refining processes to produce high-quality edible oils. In contrast, Oil Expeller Plants use mechanical presses to extract oil from seeds without the use of solvents, and they are preferred for producing cold-pressed oils. Various Edible Oil Equipment and Cooking Oil Plants are integral to the industry, providing the necessary tools and machinery to efficiently process and refine oils for consumption and industrial applications.

Not going to include the name of who left these notes, but it is really funny that mining for the radioactive materials is being called out as dangerous when compared to coal mining, you know, coal mining, the infamously dangerous job that has diseases named after it such as Black Lung aka coal workers' pneumoconiosis.
While yes, hand mining for Uranium would be dangerous, you don't send workers to mine for Uranium in most cases, it's primarily extracted though a process known as in situ leaching. In situ leaching drills a bore into an ore deposit and flushes it with a solvent that will dissolve the desired mineral, which will then be collected through another pump. This only works for ore embedded in a porous substrate that allows a fluid to run through it, but luckily that is exactly where uranium is deposited. Here is a diagram of how it works:
Tumblr media
Uranium mining is not without fault, like all mining operations it carries an environmental toll, but coal mining eclipses it in terms of environmental impact, health and safety, and emissions.
Then we have Thorium, Thorium is mostly mined through machinery instead of human workers with hand tools due to its abundance and its position in the earth's crust. Thorium mines are open air mines so no dangers of cave ins and proper ventilation for workers, but that's not even the best part, Thorium is primarily found in this mineral, Monazite.
Tumblr media
Monazite is not mined for Thorium, it's mined because it contains rare earth metals needed for other purposes, and Thorium is a byproduct from extracting those other more desirable minerals as seen by the chemical composition of the mineral in the various different forms it comes in:
monazite-(Ce), (Ce, La, Nd, Th)PO4,
monazite-(La), (La, Ce, Nd)PO4,
monazite-(Nd), (Nd, La, Ce)PO4,
monazite-(Sm), (Sm, Gd, Ce, Th)PO4,
monazite-(Pr), (Pr, Ce, Nd, Th)PO4.
Harvesting Thorium is making use of waste products from other mining operations, and it does not need enrichment like Uranium to make it into fissile fuel so it has even less secondary environmental impact than Uranium, which as we just went over, is far better than coal.
As for the "literature on Degrowth" that's just pseudoscience, which I would add a few more paragraphs to debunk, but it would be getting off-topic from the discussion here. I will however concede that the control over Uranium and Thorium production is exploitative and furthers colonial control of countries with plentiful resources, as well as its transportation often being pushed as a risk onto vulnerable communities (the history of Uranium mining in the US and its effect on native people especially the Navajo is pretty condemning). The same can be said for "green energy" like wind and solar though. Large solar and wind farms have often encroached on land that once belonged to indigenous groups and colonized territory, additionally, mining the materials needed to make the structures to support those farms also mirrors the colonial exploitation of other energy sources. This is not a fault of the materials itself, but of the economic powers that are in control, and that is a different battle that needs to be fought. Until then, nuclear energy is still the lesser evil.

The Importance of High Purity Butane: Uses, Benefits, and Applications
High purity butane is a versatile and essential product in many industries. Known for its ability to be used as a fuel and solvent, high purity butane is refined to remove impurities, making it ideal for sensitive applications where precision and performance are paramount.
What is High Purity Butane?
Butane is a hydrocarbon that is typically derived from natural gas or petroleum. While standard butane may contain various impurities, high purity butane is refined to a much higher degree. The refining process eliminates trace elements such as sulfur, moisture, and other hydrocarbons, resulting in a product with a purity level of 99.5% or greater. This refined butane is colorless, odorless, and highly flammable, making it ideal for specialized uses where quality and consistency are important.
Key Uses of High Purity Butane
Extraction Process in the Cannabis Industry One of the most significant uses of high purity butane is in the extraction of cannabinoids, such as THC and CBD, from cannabis plants. Butane extraction, also known as BHO (Butane Hash Oil) extraction, requires high purity butane to ensure that the final product is free from contaminants. The high purity ensures that the cannabinoids are extracted cleanly without leaving behind impurities that can affect the quality and safety of the oil.
Aerosol Propellant High purity butane is often used as a propellant in aerosol products, such as hairsprays, deodorants, and cooking sprays. Due to its non-toxic nature and ability to produce a fine, controlled spray, it is a preferred choice in aerosol formulations. The high purity ensures that the butane does not introduce any undesirable scents or chemical reactions when dispensed.
Fuel for Lighters and Portable Stoves High purity butane is commonly used as the fuel in refillable lighters and portable camping stoves. Its clean burn and high energy output make it an efficient fuel source. The high purity ensures that the butane burns without leaving behind excessive residue, which could interfere with the operation of lighters or stoves.
Tumblr media
4. Solvent in Chemical Applications High purity butane is used as a solvent in various industrial processes, including the manufacturing of adhesives, coatings, and plastics. Its ability to dissolve certain compounds and then evaporate without leaving harmful residues makes it highly desirable in industries requiring solvent-based formulations.
5. Calibration Gas for Analytical Instruments High purity butane is used in laboratories as a calibration gas for analytical instruments like gas chromatographs. Since accurate calibration is critical to obtaining reliable results, the high purity of butane ensures that no additional contaminants interfere with the measurements or analysis.
Why High Purity Butane Matters
The importance of using high purity butane cannot be overstated. When butane is not refined to a high degree, impurities such as sulfur, moisture, and other volatile compounds can affect both the performance and safety of the product. In industries like cannabis extraction, the presence of these impurities could result in a compromised product that is not only less effective but could also be harmful to consumers.
In addition, high purity butane helps to minimize equipment wear and tear. Impurities in low-purity butane can cause clogging or corrosion in machinery, increasing maintenance costs and downtime. Using high purity butane can extend the life of equipment, reducing overall operating expenses.
Conclusion
High purity butane plays a vital role in various industries, from cannabis extraction to aerosol production and beyond. Its refined nature makes it the ideal choice for applications that require high levels of precision and cleanliness. Whether you are in the cannabis industry, using butane as a propellant, or utilizing it in laboratory applications, the benefits of high purity butane are clear. For industries where quality and performance are critical, high purity butane remains a top choice. For more details visit our website: www.adchemgas.com

#1147 What is vegetable oil?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
What is vegetable oil? Most vegetable oil is oil extracted from the seeds of plants, and sometimes from the plants themselves. Vegetable oil is an accurate name for the product in that the oil comes from plants, but they are not all technically vegetables. The name was chosen partly because the word “vegetable” conjures up images of healthy food and makes us think that the oil is good for us. As with anything, some vegetable oils are healthy and are actually made from vegetables and some vegetable oils are less healthy and have never even seen a vegetable. The most common vegetable oils are palm oil, soybean oil, sunflower oil, and rapeseed oil, which is called canola oil. Interestingly, canola oil is made from rapeseed, but the marketing board didn’t think the word “rape” would sell very well, so they changed the name to canola, which comes from Canada Oil Low Acid. The word “rape” in rapeseed is actually the Latin word for turnip (rapum). Vegetable oils are the most consumed food in the world after rice and wheat and they make up 20% of our daily calorie intake. They are very versatile oils, and they are not only used for frying but also for coloring, flavoring, and making sure mixtures stick together. The biggest reason why palm oil, soybean oil, sunflower oil, and rapeseed oil are the most common oils is that they are extremely cheap. There are other vegetable oils like avocado oil and olive oil that are far more expensive, and you don’t usually see them in ultra-processed foods. So, how do you get vegetable oil out of vegetables? Let’s look at soybean oil, which is the most common vegetable oil you will find in your kitchen. You can also find soybean oil in a huge number of things that we eat. It’s in dressings, margarine, breads, mayonnaise, snacks, and a pile of other things. The first step in making soybean oil is to obviously get the soybeans. Soybeans are grown in many countries around the world, and they are known as an industrial crop because of the scale of their production. Over 350 million tons of soybeans are produced every year and Brazil is the world’s biggest producer. A lot of the deforestation in the Brazilian rainforest is to make fields to grow soybeans, which is seen as a far more profitable crop. Soybeans are very healthy, a great source of protein and oils, and they can fix damaged soils. They were planted in the dustbowls of America during the 1930s and regenerated the soil. The problem is not the soybean, the problem is the enormous quantities they are farmed in. Once the soybeans have been harvested, they are washed to get rid of stones, dust, and other impurities. Getting out all of the bits keeps the oil purer, but it also protects the machinery. The next step is to get the shell off the soybean. The soybean is a seed and seeds have an outer shell to protect the embryonic plant and its food stores inside. This shell has to be removed because the oil company wants to get at the plant and the food stores. The inside of the seed is made up of about 20% oil, 36% protein, 30% carbohydrates, and the rest is water. The shell is removed with a machine that cracks and breaks it off. Then the inside part of the seed is flattened to increase its surface area. These flattened seeds are then coked to break up the oil holding cells, before they are heated again to expand them. Then they go to the extraction plant where the oil is brought out of them using a solvent. Olive oils are pressed out of the olives, but soybean oil is removed with a solvent that dissolves the oil from the soybeans and it is washed out. Using a solvent is far more economical than a press because it removes more of the oil. The solvent has to be removed and that is done by heating the oil. Then the oil is distilled. It’s still not ready, though. The oil has to be refined. Any sticky bits are removed. The coloring is removed by bleaching and then the remaining odors are removed. The oil is finished and ready to be sold. All of the other vegetable oils are produced in pretty much the same way. Consumption of all of these oils has almost doubled year on year since they were first introduced and most of the time, we don’t know that we are eating them. And this is what I learned today. - #432 How does dry cleaning work? - #498 Can you eat the skin of all fruit and vegetables? - #751 What vegetables came from the New World? - #521 How are foods frozen? - #921 How much oil is left? The Making of a Smoke-able Masterpiece
Understanding Infused Cannabis Pre-Rolls
Infused cannabis pre-rolls, also known as "spliffs" or "joints," are pre-rolled cannabis cigarettes that contain a mixture of ground cannabis flower and other cannabis derivatives such as concentrates or extracts. These products can vary widely in composition, potency, and effects depending on the specific strains and concentrates used.
The primary appeal of infused pre-rolls lies in their convenience and potency. They eliminate the need for users to assemble their own joints and allow for precise dosing of cannabinoids. By combining different strains or adding concentrates like hash oil or kief, producers can create pre-rolls with unique flavor profiles and enhanced psychoactive effects.
Effects of Infused Pre-Rolls
The effects of infused pre-rolls depend on the specific strains and concentrates used in their production. Generally, cannabis pre-rolls offer a blend of the following effects:
Cannabinoid Profile: The cannabinoids present in the pre-roll, such as THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) and CBD (cannabidiol), determine the primary effects. THC is responsible for the psychoactive "high" associated with cannabis, while CBD offers more subtle effects like relaxation and pain relief.
Enhanced Potency: Infused pre-rolls often have higher THC concentrations compared to traditional flower, making them more potent and providing stronger psychoactive effects. This increased potency can lead to faster onset of effects and longer-lasting highs.
Balanced Effects: Depending on the strain blend, infused pre-rolls can offer a balanced combination of cerebral and physical effects. Some strains are more uplifting and energizing, while others are more sedative and relaxing.
Flavor and Aroma: Infused pre-rolls can have complex flavor profiles derived from the different strains and concentrates used. This adds an additional dimension to the overall experience.
How Infused Cannabis Pre-Rolls Are Made
The production process for infused pre-rolls involves several steps to ensure quality, potency, and consistency:
Cultivation: Cannabis plants are cultivated and harvested to obtain high-quality flower. Producers may grow specific strains to achieve desired flavor and effects.
Extraction: For infused pre-rolls, concentrates like hash oil or kief are often used. These concentrates are extracted from cannabis flower using solvents or mechanical methods to isolate cannabinoids and terpenes.
Blending: Ground cannabis flower is mixed with the desired concentrates to create a homogeneous mixture. This step is crucial for achieving consistent potency throughout the pre-roll.
Rolling: The blended mixture is carefully rolled into pre-rolled cones or papers. Some manufacturers use machinery for precision and efficiency, while others rely on skilled artisans for hand-rolling.
Packaging: Once rolled, infused pre-rolls are packaged in airtight containers to preserve freshness and potency.
