Going from least favorite to most favorite! AG, DP, SM, JN, XY, BW, OS

AG- I'm not a huge fan of this one. I feel like there's not a lot helping break the colors up in this design. The block of blue and the white "U" shape are competing to draw your eye and it feels unbalanced. I feel like if the "U" shape was on his chest or took up more space it'd help

DP- This outfit is pretty similar to AG's except Ash has a popped collar rather than a hood. However this one has two things going for it that I like. The "V" shape placement is nice and is what I wished the AG design had and also the black shirt is very unique compared to all of Ash's other designs that tend to be blue-leaning! Also like the extra pockets that make the pants feel less empty than the AG one

SM- Another unique look for Ash that I do like but isn't my favorite. It's simple and I do like the pants a lot actually but idk I just want a little more. The shoes make me laugh a bit. I like that they're going for a more slick look for the shoes but the little circles on em feel vaguely clown-like haha

JN- From here on I really like these designs! I like the JN shoes a lot and they honestly be my favorite shoes of the bunch. Not the hugest fan of the hat but I really like the vest and the white undershirt with red stripe. The balance and colors are really nice! My only gripe is the color of his shorts. It's not egregious but the purple that's only slightly different in value compared to the vest is weird to me. It works but idk I think a higher contrast might've been nice or just going for simple black shorts would've felt better to me (?)

XY- Don't have much to say about this one! It's just a solid, clean design. The hat is fun, the simple shirt with white trim and just enough lines to make the design look cool but not crowded is great! I also like the black undershirt. It's subtle but this design would look weird without it

BW- UGH this design scratches my brain just right. I looove the tall collar/hood, the 1/3 blue 2/3 white combo is soooo clean especially with the blue accents for the pockets. It's also nicely broken up by they yellow zipper and bold black "U" lines to separate the blue and white. So beautifully balanced

OS- This is a hard design to beat. It's just so iconic. Love the league symbol on the hat and the white panel in the front of that hat (forgot to mention I like that about the BW design too). The green gloves are great, I'm kinda sad they just defaulted to black in his other designs. The blue overshirt is great with the white collar/white sleeves. The yellow trim on the bottom, for the buttons and pockets give it just enough visual interest while keeping the design interesting. Keeping the overshirt open for the black tshirt is sooooo nice. It draws the eyes to the center and balances well with the light jeans. Love that it's tucked in also so the overshirt is noticeably longer creating even more variation. The belt is also a great touch! Love a belt. Belts are such a nice way to break up a design. The cuffed jeans are a look and I love that the shoes are designed but not over designed. The black and white combo with red accents is balanced super nicely. 10/10 no notes.

As for an outfit I'd wish we'd seen Ash in........ honestly Victor's. It would have been a huge deviation from what Ash usually wears, similarly to SM. Idk if it would have been my favorite look but it would be so wildly different to see Ash in long sleeves, actual skinny jeans and a beanie haha. Might have to draw this at some point

Chessex has some reaaaallly nice pearlescent pink ones that come in pastel and neon pinks. Also pink and white swirled ones with black lettering. I was talked out of spending $30 on Angel Dust themed dice recently.

Instead of being a gambling overlord he was a table top rpg overlord. Mf was a d&d DM so powerful he fuckin got your soul. Dice are obviously a dnd thing, there's also quick ref cards (at least in 4th edition there were, I know, I drooled over them but they were so fucking expensive so I made my own) for spells and fancy attacks

So like. He just throws the dice and they kersplode still. But depending on the roll its more powerful (and u know he got weighted dice after getting power corrupted) and then he has these quick ref cards and can literally throw them to cast fireball or get-fucked-loser-spell

Jack x Riptide is not only one of the tamest so far, it's also semi-canon so I hardly consider it rather out-there. It's not even a crackship.

Tbh most of the ones have been relatively tame. So far it's been nothing I haven't seen before or none that are particularly "out there." Honestly some of my own are probably more bizarre than most I get on the ship polls (Arion/Blackjack is actually a legitimate ship I've had for awhile).

I think funniest though would be the ones where the logical ship name ends up being the same as an extremely popular ship. I was cry-laughing over Bianca/Will (Solangelo) for like a solid two days. The absolute power move of that ship was too amusing to me. Annabeth/Alex (Fierrochase) or any combo of Hazel or Bianca and the Grace siblings (Thunderworld) are similarly up there, but they don't quite match the absolute ballsy energy of Bianca/Will Solangelo.

I think my second wouldn't exactly be one ship, but instead there is an entire section of the spreadsheet that's just a big ol' chunk of Alabaster ships that the TA server provided. That one's amusing cause it's just like 40 Alabaster in a row.

i don't really have any solid conclusions about this yet but i noticed A Thing in a rewatch and i haven't found it mentioned elsewhere yet so here we go

OKAY so in the scene where crowley confronts gabriel about "shut up and die", something about the arrangement of book stacks caught my eye a little

the majority of the books are angled so that we mostly just see the page edges and not the spines clearly, EXCEPT for a particularly shiny and familiar colour combo right here-

but nothing too weird going on there, i thought, crowley coloured books in a bookshop so what? right up until i registered crowley's line when we get a closer look-

and for most of the shots we get of crowley in this position those freaking books are just quietly nestled right there in the corner-

anyway long story short they're two books from an Agatha Christie Crime Collection set (24 volumes, three stories per volume) and guess whats on the mfing front covers I'm-

ANYWAY back to the books, through an absolutely unhinged comparison of the formatting of gold text blobs i reckon the two we have here are:

now here is where I'll need a bunch of help from some Christie-heads out there bc I haven't read any of these and I've only seen the tv adaptation of one of them, so i dont know for sure if these are like A Clue, or A Cool Thing, or if I've just fully brainrotted myself into a fun lil corner here? wa-hoo

but here's some initial stuff that jumped out at me after skimming the basics:

(some of) the titles: Pale Horse/Big Four - death's horse ofc, the four horsemen mayb? the them+adam?? ; Mesopotamia is a very biblical choice bbz ; 4:50 From Paddington- azi likes trains i guess? idk that one's tenuous lmao ; honestly no idea with the other two but Secret Adversary feels a tad ominous

iirc Big Four just has kind of an unusual history, it was initially twelve short stories that she later compiled into one, and it was published fairly soon after christie's mysterious disappearance/reappearance

in Big Four, poirot fakes his death at one point and doesnt even let hastings in on it and I'm hoping sure its totally irrelevant to the ineffable bois

part of the Pale Horse story is a group of assassins that basically try to pass off all their murders as being actually caused by like ✨satanic powers✨ which is interesting

christie knew a fUCkton about poisonings thats why she wrote so many into her work and, while i don't believe the poison coffee theory myself, it sure is an interesting link with how cyanide is associated with almond smell/flavour and that metatron chooses almond syrup in particular

(ALSO random side note that is mostly meaningless but I've worked in a good few uk coffee shops and have never worked anywhere that stocks almond syrup; almond milk yes, hazelnut syrup yes, but never almond syrup...? prob just the places i worked though lmao)

EDIT forgotten point: I've seen some speculation that the bently's plate reading "CURTAIN" could be a reference to poirot's last story, along side that alternate scene of crowley ordering the sherry for "miss marple", its just one too many agatha christie references for my melted brain to handle and I'm SUS

so this is where i run out of idea steam and hand it over to you lot because i have no clue what this could mean, if it even means anything other than a cool set feature

Ranking the promotional inklings/octolings by how much I like their outfits: Splatoon 1

Kaori:

Studio Headphones / White Tee / Pink Trainers

A simple black/white t-shirt + headphones combo alongside some aggressively pink shoes

The neutral colors of the top half of the outfit work really well to let the shoes and hair pop, which is important given that she was our first introductions to the inklings as character designs.

The only thing I can dock this outfit points for is being pretty basic, but that's also kind of the point. I'd personally prefer something with a bit more pop, but it's kind of unassailable.

4/5. She's iconic for a reason.

John:

Pilot Goggles / Zink Layered LS / Purple Hi-Horses

Similar to Kaori this is primarily a neutral outfit that puts the emphasis on the colorful shoes.

That said I like this one less than Kaori's. It's a little bit busier and the shoes don't pop as much given their darker purple tone.

Also I just don't like the Hi-Horses very much, sorry.

3/5. I can't be too harsh on him because the fit is meant to be basic, but I don't think it comes together as anything more than just Kaori's outfit but worse.

Mizuho:

Bobble Hat / Green Zip Hoodie / Moto Boots

Nice natural colors give this 'fit am active, outdoorsy look.

I like the big boots on a sniper's outfit. It makes her feel grounded and stable.

The big bobble hat is also a slightly disarming feature, it makes a bit cute, and given that she's a sniper I think she'd read as a much more serious person if she wore something more self-serious like sunglasses.

4/5. I just think this one is really good.

Rui:

Retro Specs / Baby-Jelly Shirt / Blue Slip-Ons

This 'fit flips the script the promotional characters have followed so far, really drawing your eyes to the polka dot shirt compared to the glasses and the single-color shoes.

The combination of the patterned button-down, the big boxy glasses, and the shorts (not that you had any other legwear choices in Splatoon 1) gives the outfit a vibe that to me feels straight-laced and whimsical all at once.

He has the energy of a stoic office worker with some very eccentric fashion choices.

3/5. I don't think it's very cohesive, but I can't bring myself to dislike it. It's got a lot of charm.

Laura:

Takoroka Mesh / Black Squideye / White Kicks

Another really simple fit, just a cap, a t-shirt, and a pair of shoes.

The cap gives this outfit major tomboy energy to me, and I really quite enjoy that.

The little bits of red and pink on the otherwise solid white and black of the shoes and shirt actually do a lot of lifting here, providing the whole outfit a disproportionate amount of energy.

5/5. This one is really simple but I really think it has a ton of character.

Pit:

Paintball Mask / Gray College Sweat / Orange Arrows

Another primarily neutral outfit, though this time with a pretty ostentatious piece of headwear.

I actually kind of like the shirt and shoes together, but that's about it. I really feel like the mask clashes with the rest of the outfit here.

There is nothing intrinsically wrong with the mask, of course, but I simply don't think it does anything with the other clothing here.

2/5. It's honestly not all that bad, but it simply doesn't grab me very much. I don't get any sense of personality here, and that's one of the things I really look for in an outfit.

Okay so i know this man is broke as shit BUT thta doesn't mean i cant style him ;) and that he doesn't have a sense of style. He just doesn't have the money to pull it off

ANYWAY, so ofc this dude likes to wear the classic toji combo, black compression shirt with grey joggers. Its something he wears when he cant think of something.

Additionally, he is a guy who likes flannels. loves to wear them and pulls them off honestly. I mean obviously

He likes tank tops a lot, would wear them all the time because he finds sleeves restricting.

LEATHER JACKETS btw, he loves those. Wears them with a white shirt and blue jeans combo.

Again, the biker gloves. He wears them for reasons (look cool and to handle weapons better)

He actually likes wide legs (heh) but does get annoyed by how they trail all over the floor. Has them in blue and black and gray.

Wears collared shirts, like the one that show off his biceps and back muscles.

Okay so, he also doesn't mind wearing White button ups with trousers, yk that hot look. He even rolls his sleeves uo to showcase his forearm muscles.

Honestly, has a very all over the place style. One day he would be dressed classy and other day like he is broke. It depends on his mood and he genuinely doesn't care about what he wears.

Overall, he looks good in whatever concoction he puts on. Like idk how, i think its the face that makes anything look everything. Women give him double glances all the time, men too... worms too lol.

Its honestly very hard to imagine him wear anything other than suits but i still did it HEH.

So of coure first of all, he wears suits. Tuxedos, double-breasted, Slim-fit, Modern-fit etc etc. He gets them hand-stitched, has an entire Kingsmen thing going on. Can name brands according to the make AND only wears original stuff. He is serious about his suits.

He has a lot of ties, cute ones, fun prints, the basic solid coloured ones, patterns and everything. Wears them according to the occasion.

He likes to wear Polo shirts, and i think they actually look quite hot on him. Especially the fitted ones.

His colors of choice usually are sage green, soft blue, dark blue, dark green, emerald green etc etc

He loves the round neck shirts too, the ones without collars.

Wearing button ups is his thing, wears them a lot in black, white, beige and blue.

He alsoooooooo likes to wear joggers at home because they are so very comfortable.

In winters, he wears trench coats (i love trench coats if you cant tell) and highnecks too OMGGGG he looks so good in highnecks i might swoon.

Yk those trousers? which are lightweight and flowy? the ones that you see a lot of East Asian men wearing on pinterest? Yeah he loves those. He gets to be comfortable and look professional and good in them.

He likes to wear sweaters too, like those soft and warm beautiful sweaters.

A WATCH is a must. bro wears watch even at home. Has an entire section in his wardrobe designed for watches. There are silver watches, golden watches, black watches, chunky watches, analog, digital etcetc. Digital watches are just for show tho, will never wear them

follow up to this ask! this time im just gonna be talking about my coloring process (i also want to let you all know that im not an expert in color theory since im still learning, im quite literally just going random bullshit go on the blending modes 💀 lots of explanation under the cut)

the three blending modes i mainly use are exclusion, hard light, and overlay. from the guide above you could see how the blending modes work on their own, and how they look like combined altogether. the cool thing about blending mode layers is that it really is all about experimentation and finding the best combination for a piece (also to any fellow inabakumori enjoyers GRAHH lagtrain pose jumpscare)

i went through a bunch of blending mode phases before i ended up with those main three, though it's funny how ive been using the same overlay color for about 4 years now (multiply used to be one of them, and i still use it from time to time, just not as much). im gonna be honest the whole reason why i know about blending modes being helpful was because one time i accidentally had the fill bucket on and had a certified eureka moment 😭

the best way i could explain these three modes is:

exclusion - honestly i still dont understand how it works either 💀 when i use a really saturated blue color and lower the opacity, it gives a cooler feeling to the palette. feels like a mix of multiply and overlay with how it adjusts the colors without making it darker

hard light - gives more saturation and color

overlay - gives off a glowy effect, especially if the lineart isnt completely solid (this is why it isnt clipped on the folder as shown in the example below, keeping it above the layers gets that glowy effect)

i still use the same colors for exclusion and overlay (while i do alter them with hue saturation brightness from time to time, i just use the same blue and brown for most of my works) though hard light is what i use to make drawings lean towards a temperature

i tend to use warm colors a lot because i think theyre neat and also im biased sorry <3. as a warm palette example, i drew yinu and used this orange color on hard light and lowered the opacity

cold colors have a similar process, it's just the matter of adjusting the hard light layer. i wouldnt really say it's completely cold since i still add warm colors because im still biased </3. as a cold palette example, i drew sayu and used this purple-pink (??) color with the same settings

when it comes to drawings that have characters with contrasting palettes, it does take a bit of trial and error but i most of the time i mix both warm and cold methods like the example above. this also helps for art with several characters in general, since the blending modes help make the colors go well together despite the variety

theres also instances where i dont always use the warm + cold combo, since sometimes drawings lean towards a specific temperature instead (like environments with set lighting/shading, so usually i follow that even with characters with different palettes)

tldr; there are lots of palette combos you could make, not necessarily with just the three blending modes i mention. random bullshit go genuinely helps with experimenting with colors!!

2023 Fall Anime

This is honestly a loaded season full of new shows based on relatively new manga. Lots to look forward to

Spy x Family - Season 2 One of the most fun SJ series that have come out in a while. Season 1 was killer, high hopes for season 2.

Goblin Slayer 2 I didn't realize they were even making a second season. This was such a killer series. I'm really hoping they don't fall into the many mid-tier fantasy tropes out there in anime right now. I thought the appeal of the show was really Goblin Slayer himself and less about the lackeys along the way. So we'll see how it goes.

Frieren: Beyond Journey's End This is definitely one of my highly anticipated series. It's about an elf who was part of the Hero's party and her life after he dies. (Since elves live longer) Definitely a darker take on fantasy but has some really solid fantasy and adventure vibes.

Rising of the Shield Hero - Season 3 Season 2 was pretty disappointing and slow. While this looks like it'll be more fast paced, it does look like a tournament arc of sorts. I know some aren't a fan of that kind of arc, but honestly I think it's exactly what this series needs to pick things up again. We'll see.

The Faraway Paladin - Season 2 This was legitimately one of my favourite fantasy series. I thought it was really well written and didn't rush things like other series. I'm looking forward to this season.

Sequels/Continuations: Eminence in Shadow - Season 2 killer series with an anti-hero main character. Definitely worth checking out. After-School Hanako-Kun Hanako-kun spin off Dr. Stone Season 3 - Part 2 One of the best novel concept series with nothing else in it's genre to compare to. Definitely didn't drop the ball on the recent seasons and still worth watching. Dead Mount Death Play - Part 2 One that I didn't particularly enjoy, but has a decent sized manga following. Tokyo Revengers - Tenjiku Arc The continuation of the series. Might be just me but it feels like the series fell off after the first season. The Saint's Magic Power is Omnipotent - Season 2 A more mature take on fantasy isekai that just started to get into romance at the end of last season. A solid combo of shoujo genres. The Ancient Magus' Bride - Season 2 Part 2 One that I haven't had a change to check out yet but have only heard good things about. Hypnosismic - Season 2 a weirdly addictive musical/rap series. Unique characters and honestly solid rap battles. One I'll be enjoying. -- Related - Paradox Live - Music battle with what looks to be the same style of animation and solid character design. Definitely worth looking at if you're a fan of Hypmic. The Seven Deadly Sins: Four Knights of the Apocalypse A sequel of SDS. Looks like it could be a fun watch for the fans of the series. New:

Shangri La Frontier A new manga fantasy series. This may be a horrible way to describe but it is what it is - a new age SAO- full dive fantasy game. A gamer who only plays shit games, gets into a new massively popular MMORPG and is op. One that I'm excited for because it ticks all the fantasy game boxes I like.

Undead Unluck A relatively new manga series that gained a lot of traction in the last year or two. A gory action comedy that's super chaotic and a lot of fun.

Shy Brand new hero manga series about a shy girl and her anxieties and struggles going into the hero world who grows and gains confidence as she becomes a better hero.

Ron Kamonohashi's Forbidden Deductions This is a manga series that I have kept forgetting the name of so never got a chance to read but all the covers for the manga look phenomenal. Likely the anime doesn't do him justice but it is what it is. Essentially sherlock in anime form. A PI with issues and the wholesome police detective work together to solve crime. Other New Series: Green - Fantasy Pink - Romance Red - Action Purple - Drama The Kingdoms of Ruins A world where witches were hunted down by humans as science surpassed magic. A kid who was raised by a witch swears revenge on mankind. This honestly looks solid. The animations are very cool looking and the mc seems to be an anti-hero. Will be looking at this one. Under Ninja A well known manga series about modern ninjas. Definitely a unique series for this season. The Apothecary Diaries A historical medical mystery show. I've heard the name before and I've also only heard good things. Will be worth a watch. A Girl & Her Guard Dog The granddaughter of a crime syndicate goes to highschool out of town and the current young boss lies his way into the same school. Would be cute romance if it weren't for the fact she's 15 and he's 26.. Butareba - The Story of a Man Turned into a Pig What the title says. A girl finds him and the story goes from there. I'm Giving the Disgraced Noble Lady I Rescued a Crash Course in Naughtiness The usual light novel title. Honestly, doesn't seem as yikes as I initially thought, might just be harmless breaking the rules kinda thing. Could be fun, also a Capybara that strikes fear into people's hearts. My Daughter Left the Nest and Returned an S-Rank Adventurer Looks like a wholesome series where an adventurer finds a baby, raises it and she becomes so strong she's busy working all the time. Just a cute father daughter relationship in a fantasy setting about her wanting to come take time to see him but being caught up in OP fantasy battles. i have to admit i am a basic moshang lover at heart, they are just the perfect combo of angst/genuine emotions/beautiful themes and very funny that i love. shang qinghua is mr. boop and also mobei-jun's god and the jaken to his sesshomaru. mobei jun is his blorbo and his abuser and his annoying boss. they have a 20-30 year age difference. they dont even get together at the end of the moshang extras they just continue to have a weird boss/employee relationship and someday get their shit together off-screen. its everything to me

when writing moshang, i think the best things for me are the available tension of mobei jun's treatment of shang qinghua, contrasted against the genuine softness i think mobei jun feels for him and shang qinghua's deeply ingrained self worth issues. its just such a delicious cocktail for both drama and sweetness! and for some reason when together, they give me that very solid 'married couple who can basically psychically communicate' vibe, compared to bingqiu's messy freudian college girl energy (also beloved to me)

THAT SAID. i do think there are other very fun or funny pairings for sqh that i would love to see more of tbh.

A) SQH/YQY. this is mostly just because i love @tossawary's hey, share the weight a little, which is so cute and honestly mostly comes down to 'two great tastes that taste great together' for me. not my fav for either of them but deserves honorable mention for being the main non-moshang sqh pairing with a fic i love

B) SQH/LQG. i think that shang qinghua gets him. he COULD fix him, by which in this case i mean use his mildly conniving nature, excellent planning skills, and sneakiness to improve liu qingge's quality of life through trickery. and i think that shang qinghua could really benefit from a loving and devoted partner who doesn't have that much more emotional intelligence than him, but who would make him eat full meals, sleep, and get some fresh air.

C) SQH/TLJ - SQH/TLJ/SXY - SQH/SXY... its just so funny. i think they could be enchanted by his weird little man swag. his mildly evil heart and his big brown eyes. and i think he'd find them mildly unsettling which is also funny

D) MQF/SQH. i have never seen or written any content for this but i kind of want it very badly now that ive thought of it. sqh can get rare and weird information for him, mqf would be 'i can fix him' for sqh's crippling anxiety and tendency to get injured by demons, they are both workaholics... this would be a magical combo

i do sometimes read cumplane and think they can be very fun and/or cute, but its not really a fav sqh pairing of mine, nor is sqh/og!sqq, altho ik those are probably the other two most popular pairings for him. i just think he should be w someone who appreciates how smart he is and idk that either of them do that for me... they, in turn, seem to me like guys who want to be the smart one in a relationship 😂

anyways i really took 'in as much detail as possible' and ran with it so i hope this answers your question hahaha. many thoughts about this man that live in my brain 😌

it's so hard for me to think of what any of my personal GOTY picks might be this year, because every time I think about one of the really kickass games I played/beat for the first time this year (that's what I'm going off of btw, not release date) I then have to remember "oh right I also played Pseudoregalia in like. February. and then proceeded to play it 90 more times, including once yesterday. I think there's some compelling evidence that I might've liked that game a little bit more than this other stuff" lol

...that being said, I think my other top contenders for stuff I played during 2024 would be (in no particular order):

- Noita (obviously. I can't believe I ALSO didn't start playing this until early January, it feels like it's been way longer. funny wizard explode)

- Cavern of Dreams (easily one of the best attempts I've ever seen to recreate not only the visual style of an N64 game, but the precise FEELING of playing one as a kid and exploring for weird secrets)

- the Paper Mario TTYD remake (I ended up going for 100% on this one, it's honestly some of the most fun I've EVER had streaming a game. I've never seen a remake knock it out of the park this hard, this shit is absolutely packed full of loving detail)

- Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope (I haven't quite finished it yet but I'm confident in including it here. friendship ended with Fire Emblem, I actually just need more of whatever this is)

- Zelda: Ultimate Trial (an OoT romhack that has no business being as good as it is. I jokingly called it "the Undertale Yellow of Zelda fangames" when I finished it and honestly I still stand by that)

- uhhh sure I guess Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom can go on here too (it's not a new series favorite or anything but it was still a ton of fun and I loved collecting funny Zelda monsters like Pokemon lol. very solid dungeon/puzzle design too, a real return to form)

and I guess if you want my LEAST favorite games of 2024 I'll include those too but put them under a cut:

- Corn Kidz 64 (kinda janky and imprecise controls coupled with overly punishing platforming, a really unsatisfying sense of progression, and humor and general vibes that I just found to be kinda rancid and offputting overall)

- Penny's Big Breakaway (I was SO excited to play this one, but was really disappointed. the level design is just kinda baffling and frequently makes you waste time doing side objectives for no reward or loops you back on yourself, the controls are weird and make it extremely easy to misinput and die accidentally, and it constantly throws score/combo elements in your face but nearly every move you can do will instantly take away all of your momentum unless it's 100% perfect. I couldn't even force myself to finish this one. at least the music whips ass tho)

- Zelda II: The Adventure of Link (I've started and quit this one many times but this year I forced myself to play it to completion on my switch, making liberal use of savestates. it didn't help that much. I wrote a whole reflection earlier this year about the ambitious and interesting stuff this game tried to do and why it never quite works - I think I only posted it on cohost, I should probably retrieve that before it gets deleted)

- Dr Robotnik's Ring Racers (listen if you didn't have any attachment to SRB2 Kart before this "sequel" came out then I probably can't really explain to you why I loathe this thing so much in terms of actual design differences. all I WILL say is that I'm furious we got this, which is a completely different fucking game that's super overtuned to solely appeal to a very specific kind of highly technical player niche and scare everyone else away, as a REPLACEMENT for just getting a goddamn update to add CPUs to SRB2 Kart. it's all I ever wanted, and now because they turned that update into DRRR instead, I will never get it)

also I just think it's funny to put it in perspective here that I'm choosing NOT to put Donkey Kong 64 on this list, which I did 101% complete earlier this year. so that's the bar, anything on my Least Faves list is stuff I enjoyed less than the experience of streaming the entirety of DK64. I really did have more fun beating Beaver Bother 3 times than playing Corn Kidz. I don't know what that says about me

He's coasting on his raw athletic ability, a full-ride scholarship handed to him despite his less-than-perfect grades, when he realizes he's got way more ahead of him than he'd ever imagined. Including, but not limited to, a newfound crush that also throws him for a loop.

Continued from part 5! The texts in this one are from Megumi's pov, and some more from Yuta's. It should be clear enough which ones are which!

aaaand... NEW CHARACTER UNLOCKED (speak emoji and !! emoji) Choso enters the roster (cat smirking)

Yuuji did indeed get yet another full, and very peaceful night of sleep. He honestly couldn’t remember the last time he felt so well rested. It was a combo of the crash after all that adrenaline, the fatigue post-game, and the sleeping meds that Megumi had leant him. 

He still wanted to properly thank him for the gummies, outside of Yuta being his middle man. But that, he would figure out another time he supposed.

When Yuuji woke up the next day, he trudged through his classes, wanting nothing more than to remain tucked into his warm bed, finally having a few days to rest before continuing forward with the usual practice schedule. Those few days were pretty boring and quite average, and those odd skills he seemed to suddenly develop were finally chilling out to the point he could actually function pretty normally in his day-to-day life.

He seemed to gather a pretty solid understanding finally of how to use the sticky grip on the palms of his hands, although he still had not the slightest idea of why he had the ability. And he spent that one afternoon with Todo, working to train himself on those quick reaction times. There were other things here and there, that he could tell were suddenly new to him, but none were nearly as much of a nuisance as the sticky hands.

He would be forever grateful that that problem didn’t last more than a few weeks.

When the day came, however, for his first practice post-game, he was suddenly amped back up, and ready to jump back into the game head first. Those silly little dinosaur gummies changed the trajectory of his school year, and he didn’t even quite realize it fully.

The day of Yuuji’s first practice after the first big game is when Megumi decides that he’s going to make it over there to see what “that big beefy dude” was gloating about - someone on the team having some “crazy fast reflexes,” bordering on “superhuman”. 

What could he say? He was nosey, simply put. He minded his business most times well enough, stayed quiet and to himself. But sometimes, duty called. He simply needed to know what superhuman abilities found their way onto his own real-life college campus.

Megumi had tried to convince his dear, beloved cousin Maki to go with him, but she had outright refused, claiming she had personal beef with about half of the team. Stupid lesbians and their hatred of men. 

Apparently, the airhead that Yuta was friends with, that he’d given some of his melatonin gummies to was on the football team, but Megumi had no idea about that prior to deciding he wanted to stick his nose where it didn’t truly belong. He just wanted to see what he wanted to see, and that was that.

So, when he finally reaches the field where he can already hear a very rowdy, and very riled up group of college jocks messing around with one another, he stays as far away as he can, for as long as he can. The only time he gets even remotely close to the action is when he enters the field, through the main entrance placed at the center line. He quickly scrambles his way all the way up the bleachers and into one of the furthest away spots in the very top, back row. Not so far that he couldn’t see what was going on, but not so close that he’d draw any attention to himself, either. At least he hoped, what with the other small groups sprinkled around the bleachers, sat much closer than himself.

Little did he know that Yuuji had immediately caught sight of the raven-haired man, instantly wondering whether he’d come there explicitly for him.

Yuuji simply saw him as a potential friend, and hoped that maybe, just maybe, Megumi had felt some type of way about how their first interaction went. And maybe, this was Yuuji’s chance to properly thank Megumi for how greatly he’d helped him out, by simply just handing him 5 little dinosaur sleepytime gummies.

He almost steps away from the team for a minute, just to say hi, but he thought before he acted, just this once. He figured that Megumi didn’t want to be bothered, seeing as he was sat so far away.

Before the team started their practice, Megumi pulled out his laptop, opting to try and get some work done while he was here. He figured, until he heard or saw something interesting, this was just some much needed outside time, since it was steadily getting colder out, and he hardly made it out into the sunlight anyway. He was a hermit at heart. 

After something like a good twenty minutes, Megumi hears the team start up their practice, tossing footballs at one another, doing some running drills, tackling drills, all that beefy jock stuff that he swears he couldn’t care any less about. But eventually, a loud commotion of whooping and yelling rips his attention from his laptop, pulling it right towards the field. Whatever happened, though, he missed. 

What he missed, was that a team member of Yuuji’s, a loud-mouthed idiot named Mahito, had chucked a ball right at Yuuji’s head without a single warning. The rest of the team simply stood there in shock, none of them really having the time to properly react to the ball zipping towards an unsuspecting Yuuji’s fuzzy head of pink hair. Before any one of them could even shout at Yuuji to catch the ball, or duck, or any sort of a warning, he had already whipped around, catching the ball firmly in between two hands.

It was nothing short of a miracle. The field was silent for a good five seconds, until everyone charged Yuuji, huddling around him and causing him to drop the ball. The entire team was on him in seconds, screaming words of praise - things like “HOLY SHIT, DUDE!” and “NO WAY THAT ACTUALLY JUST HAPPENED!!”

“Todo, dude, you really weren’t kidding when you said this kid was superhuman!” Mahito yelled excitedly. Todo simply glared him down for putting his bro in harm's way like that.

After another 20 minutes or so of the same shit, Megumi decides that this was in fact a waste of his time, and he shouldn’t have even bothered coming. He gathered his things up slowly, packing his belongings neatly back into his little brown shoulder bag, and making his way back down the bleachers slowly. 

He wanted nothing more right now than to be invisible, hoping that everyone was way too involved with themselves on the field to take any note of him. But as he approached the exit gate right at the center field line, the worst thing imaginable happened.

A ball came flying directly at him.

Todo had insisted to the team that Yuuji could never best him in skill, that he’d always make it a point to match his brother’s abilities and keep up with him. So, naturally, that meant that he swore up and down that he would be able to also catch a ball with an insane reaction time. Against anyone on the team’s better judgment, Mahito hucked another ball at another unsuspecting person, this time being Todo. Who certainly could not catch the ball the way that Yuuji could. Also, Mahito was an asshole, who threw the ball way out of the way of where Todo would never be able to catch it, even if he happened to actually be expecting the ball to come his way.

At the time, Yuuji was distracted, practicing something else with a couple of his other teammates, when he got that odd, tingly feeling that something was wrong. He whipped his head around to where Mahito and Todo were, and quickly realized what was going down. And then he saw Megumi, right in the line of fire.

He had never moved so fast in his goddamn life.

Yuuji booked it over to where the ball was heading, kicking up dirt and grass as he sprung from the ground, leaping into the air to catch the stray football heading right for Megumi. He caught the ball mere feet away from where Megumi was standing like a deer in headlights, tumbling to the ground in a sort of tuck-and-roll fashion, when the team began cheering and screaming loudly once again.

Yeah, Megumi saw that. 

He saw all of it.

He also definitely saw the look on Yuuji’s face, bordering on nothing but sheer concern and worry for the ravenette, as they made eye contact right before he went tumbling down onto the ground. 

The team charged Yuuji once more, celebrating by lifting him up into the air, and shouting something about him being the MVP. Sure, Yuuji was excited, his teammates loved him! He was amazing! But right now, he wanted to talk to Megumi.

He glanced over to the spot where Megumi was - where he still stood - frozen in place, staring at Yuuji. Being held high over everyone’s heads, he had a free hand, so he gave Megumi a small wave paired with a wide grin before almost being dropped on his head by - you guessed it, Mahito. Todo made a mental note to accidentally hit him in the head with a football sometime soon.

Once Megumi finally got his brain and legs working again, all he could think was, “time to go, time to go,” and he high-tailed it the fuck out of there. Maybe something in his subconscious did know that Yuuji was on the football team. And maybe once Yuta clarified that information, that only made Megumi a teensy bit more curious. 

Yuuji stood from the spot on the ground that he’d been plopped onto, quickly dusting himself off and already moving to run to where Megumi stood without even having looked up yet, but he was already gone.

He supposed that once he got to talk to him again, he’d tell Megumi that he hoped that would make them even for the five little dino gummies he gave Yuuji the week before.

I no longer make YouTube vids discussing Lorcana news (no one watched them and they have zero rewatch value) so now I go to tumblr. We got a new set announcement! AZURITE SEA!

The vibe is PIRATES. So like Into the Inklands, but more so. No new mechanics revealed, though hopefully there will be something. We do have two new franchises, though! Big Hero 6:

Neat! Okay let's get into the cards that may actually see any play.

This may see play in Amber/Amethyst aggro decks, which are already running the Bodyguard Donald with the same ability. The Bodyguard is very useful for protecting high-lore low-stat squishies, but having twice as much of that ability is very very nice.

As we'll see in a bit, this is the first time we're seeing any sort of "milling" (discarding cards from decks) in Lorcana. I like this because it synergizes with Chernabog. I'm wondering if we'll be seeing more cards that jive with this archetype.

We've seen two each of Chip and Dale, and if we get more of them, there might be enough synergy for a "tribal" deck. If that happens, you will definitely want this guy, he's got great stats for his cost, and he's inkable! Unlike last set's Moana.

Not the worst thing. She survives Brawl, which is important. But she's definitely not surviving a challenge. Most Amethyst decks are never going to have fewer than 3 cards in hand, though, they already have so many other card draw tools. Honestly the most likely spot for her might be Amber/Amethyst aggro - drop her turn 4, your opponent is going to be focused on your squishies, and you get to refill your hand on turn 5.

So this is a weird one. There is an existing Emerald/Steel deck that wants to play A Whole New World a lot of times, and technically that's "milling" in that it's forcing your opponent to lose by running out of cards to draw, but now this is actual milling. But... it's only one card. This is going to need a lot more support for this to actually see any play at all.

This seems really good, and a much better payoff than the uninkable Robin Hood from last set ended up being. This could net you a lot of lore, and might be the start of an Emerald burn deck.

Speaking of Emerald burn, this is one of the best 1-drops I've ever seen. I want to combo this with floodborn Kida and some sort of Reckless.

Lorcana has been real hesitant to do tutoring to hand, but even just ensuring you topdeck, say, Lucky Dime, could be very useful.

This just seems like a solid overall card, aside from the Brawl vulnerability. Will we finally see an Inventors deck?

This is amazing. Ruby/Sapphire self-damage/heal deck. This may finally work where Grand Pabbie just didn't.

The card is "okay" at best but I love the flavor/art lol

That is a pretty easy condition to meet, and they don't even need to be exerted. Just have this in an Alien and/or Robot deck and have it passively spit out lore for you, shunting in a new character every turn.

Saving the best for last - JIMBO! Wow, what a card. Immune to Madame Medusa, and can draw you potentially four cards??? I would love to see an Amber Pirates deck (there's already the Piglet), particularly if we can get a cost reducer to get Jim here out earlier.
