very funny (irritating) to me that everyone whined and yelled about stupid rainbow capitalism and how performative wokeness/allyship is a net bad we should all refuse to support and now like.
tumblr is doing nothing for pride and target isn't selling much (if any) of their pride collection offline except at certain stores (in democratic areas, basically) and build a bear has a much tinier collection than normal and all the actual pride stuff is on their "adult" website (not sure if it's in stores, but pride = adult is a hell of a message)
there are genuinely good criticisms for performative allyship in all its applications. it shouldn't be the only thing we expect from people and companies. but if all the shit I see being called performative stopped tomorrow then in terms of the LGBTQ+ community especially we just. wouldn't talk about queerness or queer issues or celebrate pride or do anything.
open your fucking eyes. we are very close politically to having gay marriage rolled back. now companies are basically being let off the hook to even make a miniscule effort (which matters to the people who don't have access to any other kind of support in their communities! which normalizes the community in public spaces!) because the only reaction they have gotten over the last few years are negative ones from BOTH sides.
we are so entrenched in discourse at all times for the sake of our OWN performance of who is the wokest and who is REALLY an ally or a good community member that we have basically handed over all the work of activists of the last several decades to the other side because we'd rather scream at each other over fucking chicken restaurants and shit than the real life backsliding that's happening.
and this goes for other shit too. feminism, poc rights, all of it.
also. trans rights aren't discourse and aren't just culture war arguments. in case any terfs think they can spin this to be antitrans.

i keep thinking about robert smith in his big boy age of 60+ and the comments i sometimes see about him (not here, but on youtube and ig) and our perception of older people and aging and alternative people in general.
i think there's this really pervasive idea of aging gracefully and how more alternative looking people don't fit that idea. robert smith is older now, not young and skinny, but he still does the iconic hair and makeup. and some people don't like that. that same style that he has held most of his career.
perhaps people have an easier time with the idea of young people being alternative, looking countercultural, raging against the machine. but when you get older you're supposed to "age gracefully" (= conform to society's expectations of older people). somehow it's not graceful to be yourself, be different or alternative. why don't we let old people to have the same self expression we applaud them for when they're younger? (i know there have always been people provoked by his look, but imagine being mad about a man in makeup in 2024)
robert smith is wonderful as he is, wrinkles and messy makeup and grey bird's nest and all.

i genuinely hope in my lifetime to never experience anything like the reylo phenomenon ever again. something about that ship either attracted people who were weird or made people weird, and either way existing on internet spaces while it was at its peak was hellish.

I enjoy reading your questionably-stable to outright unhinged Sun drabbles. Always happy when I see that you have written a new one!
I am curious though. What would happen if y/n reaches a point where Sun's coldness/hostility towards them causes them to become so disheartened that they take a hypothetical opportunity given to them to leave. They would still feel very sad about it because they care for Sun a great deal, but his attitude towards them is concerning and disparaging. Though Sun clearly tolerates them above other humans, he still doesn't seem to actually appreciate or care for them as they themselves do him.
LOL im happy that you're happy!! i love writing questionably-stable to outright unhinged sun! i just think he deserves to go a little wild as a treat, yknow? having ur code reworked from a theater bot to a daycare bot on top of no rest from an assortment of children and the denial of your clear sentience/personhood in society would get to anyone, i think.
hmmmm i think it would in fact be an immense wake up call for him. like... one day you're just.. not at the daycare. and he chalks it up to nothing too major. but then you're not there the next day either. he does a little internal snooping and investigates the employee clock ins and realizes that you never showed up to work. in fact--as he scours through the employee list--you're not registered at all. where did you go?
he scoffs and brushes it off at first. whatever, you're gone, he doesn't care! one less human for him to deal with. maybe he can finally focus on things that matter (getting away getting away he needs to get out out out of here). but he just... can't stop thinking about you for some reason. he can't stop thinking about you and honestly how dare you still take up space in his processor like this! you aren't even here!
sun does a lot of self deliberation as a result, reflects on his actions. he replays the moments with you leading up to you leaving (you quit, he realizes, as he reads the logs). and at first he doesn't understand. why did you leave? he quite enjoyed talking to you. he even considered you a friend of sorts! spoke to you about things he would have never spoken about with other humans!
it takes moon interfering for him to realize that maybe.... maybe he was not the nicest or more considerate to you. it's whatever. it's fine. he doesn't care. he doesn't. he really, really doesn't. in fact, he grows to loathe you for leaving him like this. leaving him here with these other humans who don't have your eyes or your smile or your willingness to listen to him. you left.
sun spends day after day after day in the daycare. taking care of children and imagining a world where he had more control. maybe if he did, you wouldn't have left. he wouldn't have let you leave. this just won't do.
so he waits. and he bides his time. and he thinks and thinks and thinks. until one day, he's stepping out of a crumbling, smoking pizzaplex. taking that first step into society--actual society. seeing the bright blue sky above him and the trees that sway in the distance. he has one goal--segmented in his mind after you left.
he will find you. and this time he won't let you leave.

The Boys when The poison drips through and the cycle repeats and "you were born to it. That cold nature." And you will never escape the sins of your father and "to feel any ounce of regret, do you have to have it beat into you?" And "He couldn't be bothered. Said I was a disappointment." And "you're just like your father." And "the truth is, I never had a dad." And "There's no fixing you." And "dad, please don't make me." And "I haven't seen my father in a long time." and and and and

I was told by someone that I couldn’t call myself a transsexual because I had to go off T for health reasons and I haven’t had any gender affirming surgeries yet since I’m poor and disabled. Is this true? What are like, the requirements to be a transsexual? /gen
The requirements to be transsexual: to identify as transsexual
This might seem too... straightforward, but genuinely, medical transition is so complex and individual that it's worthless to make it so ridged. There are so many reasons you have to stop some aspect(s) of transition, even if you didn't want to! That doesn't mean you never transitioned or that it's "lesser" now that you stopped.
Genuinely, from the bottom of my heart, I, for one, couldn't care less if you call yourself a transsexual. To my mind, it is as political as it is an identity. Being a transsexual isn't just about your identity but also your place in this world. "Transsexual menace" isn't just a cutesy little slogan but a political battle cry. It can be an attitude about changing sex, about the lucid and plastic nature of people, and so much more.
The word transsexual was made and popularized, honestly, with the idea that we are separate from others. I think we can take this back and make it ours. We can start by actually making it our own, not the cis world's own.

why do people who transitioned as full-on adults continue to speak on what they believe the laws should be regarding child/adolescent medical transition? like how fucking dense do you have to be to think it’s the same situation? if you didn’t MEDICALLY transition in that specific age range, when your mind is more amenable to any number of ideas about identity or personal philosophy (as you are still a child figuring yourself out) then you do not know what it’s like to have doctors more or less gaslighting you into pseudoscientific concepts that adults can understand more like metaphors…
this is the same way religion harms vulnerable young people when their brain’s capacity for weighing what is and is not realistic is just not developed and the real life experience has not yet been gained… you don’t understand metaphors and gender roles and playing pretend and facades yet… it’s all REAL to you at that age… i was told i had a MALE SOUL… trapped inside my inferior female body which needed to be FIXED in some way.
the older i get the more i realize that what a lot of adult transitioners are describing amounts more to deliberate aesthetic changes, which do create a higher level of comfort in the body and self-expression, this is why there seems to be a lower rate of regret for these types… versus gnc children who have not yet gotten past the age stage of cross-sex identification (which seems to be a common experience during the development of sexual identity for a pretty sizable cohort of the current generation of homosexuals who transition)… i think adult transitioners without childhood dysphoria have a better big-picture view of the changes they’re seeking, and it’s extremely unfair for them to pretend that youth who are attempting to convert themselves from gay boys to straight women or from butch lesbians to straight men are in the same mindset. i know i was not. it was religious for me. it was totally all-consuming.

Do you guys remember that Reddit screenshot that was like:
Incel-adjacent guy: the simple fact is that no hot woman wants to get with an average looking nerdy man. That's why guys like me are fucked.
Normal commenter: why don't you try dating average looking women with nerd hobbies then?
Incel guy; what would be the point of that
.......... Sometimes the male loneliness discourse feels a lot like that.

I'm still not well so this isn't going to be articulate, but I wanted to say something anyway.
In the wake of Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies (amongst other titles) being purged from streaming I've seen countless posts saying "This is terrible, we need to stop this practice -- they might purge a good show next!" and yeah, for sure a lot of titles being impacted by streaming purges/lack of physical media/a decline in archiving right now aren't going to be remembered for changing the world.
However, I think it is vital that we fight to preserve these titles for their own sake not just because "What if next time it's something we actually like?!" There is value is preserving things widely regarded as "bad" not just because I have firm beliefs about the absurdity of taste, but because who gives a shit if something is deemed "good?" Actual human people put their time and energy into realising these artistic visions. Even if the results are arguably not "good" or "popular", should the efforts of these artists be lost to the sands of time? No, no they fucking shouldn't.
I share a lot of art on this blog from titles very few people consider culturally important or valuabe. However, I don't look at the things I collect & share like that. Even some of the most objectively absurd titles I own are still pieces of art that were developed, published, and consumed by humans in the real world. Whether they've turned out to be broadly memorable or not is irrelevant because they existed and that in itself makes them worthy of preservation so that others can choose to familiarise themselves with them long after the original creative team is gone.
So yes, we should all be trying to preserve the media that's important to us and not let corporations try to stamp out every trace of a financial (though not necessarily artistic) misstep. However, it shouldn't take the threat of something we, personally, like being taken away to stir us into giving a shit.
Even the demise of less admired works should concern us and make us start to burn copies of Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies because it might not mean anything to you or I right now, but to some kid in 20 years it could be a seminal experience that leads them to follow their dreams. Or it could become a cult classic that people reflect on at watch parties years in the future. Or it could continue to be a footnote in the history of television that nobody really cares about.
Ultimately I don't think it matters what level of value we arbitrarily assign to media now or in the future, we should be trying to preserve as much of it as possible so that generations from now people can enjoy the option of engaging with these titles should they so wish.
