I’m having a lot of fun with Veilguard, but I have to admit, the further I get in…..the writing is….not very good. Overall. It feels so removed from the canon of the past games, and maybe they didn’t want to overwhelm new players with all the lore and world state stuff, but it feels hollowed and retconned and not even tonally consistent. Why does the writing expect everyone to believe what Rook is saying at face value when they’re talking like a conspiracy theorist about the elven gods. I am having fun still because I enjoy the companions, but I’m sorry I just didn’t give a shit about Solas in Inquisition and I don’t give a shit about him now that BioWare is trying so hard to convince me that he’s a real swell guy by beating me over the head with it. All the subtlety of a brick through a window.

But!! It’s a fun, solid game, and I really enjoy how much the companions interact with each other and move around and act like people! I’m here for the companions. I want a whole game worth of content just about Emmrich and Manfred. Really loving Fantasy Vincent Price and his skeleton son. 10/10 no notes there.
